Transparant area turns white in 8bit png format

Hello Experts,
When transperant is set in photoshop then exported to png 24bit then when opened in MS paint(which supporst only 8bit) the transperacy turns white.
When transperant is set in illustrator then exported to png 24bit then when opened in paint, the transperancy is shown in black;.This behaviour is what i need with the pngs that are created in photoshop. I really dontknow why this transperancy behaves differently with PS and  Ilustrator.
Could anyone tell why transperancy set in  PS turns white in 8bit format(in MSPaint). This is because, My touch screen device will show pngs in 24bit and 16bit. And in some cases my device has to display pngs in 8 bit also. When pngs are shown in 8bit, i am able to see white patches where transperancy is given. These pngs are mainly created in PS. But we do not find any issue with pngs created in Illustrator.
Could anyone tell whats going wrong wih PS.
If i get answer for this, i would be able to find the root cause of the issues that we face in our project.
Thanks.
Regards,
Ashok

I can only guess at what the difference may be between PS and AI.  The PNG file format has some ancillary chunks, one of which is the default background color. Ancillary chunks can be ignored by the opening program if it chooses. It is possible that AI declares the background to be black and PS does not. As far as I can tell, the PNG default background color chunk is independent of what the background color is set to in Photoshop when you save an  image with transparency from PS.
One work around is to place the PS image in Illustrator and save from there. You may have good reasons to use Paint, but I've found other problems in having Paint digest  png  files and never use Paint. Png files with transparency written by PS seem to work fine in other programs.

no dear there is not any option as u suggested.
rightnow i am using my canvas and making the bytearray of it and then I am saving this bytearray  with .jpg/.png format with the JPEG/PNG Encoders. but what it does? It makes a single .jpg file of canvas so if there are 3 images in it than it will save entier canvas as .jpg.
I want to save each image as different layer and finally the canvas should be save in .psd format show i can open that .psd file in photoshop..

  • Saving photoshop file as pdf but transparent background turns white

Am trying to save file created as photoshop file (which has transparent background) as pdf to send to printer but when I reopen the saved pdf file it appears to be on a white background? Can anybody help please?

What are you "reopening" it with?
"Photoshop PDF" is not enough information. The PDF options window has various settings for PDF versions - Acorbat 4, Acrobat 5, Acrobat 6, etc. Actobat 4 will not include transparency or layers. Acrobat 5 will include layers but not transparency, Acorbat 6 will include both layers and transparency.

  • Aperture 3.4.1 and raw 4 update installed now many of my D700 and D800E raw files are turning in to unsupported file format?

Only happens if the file is opened for editing and not to all files. Pictures are visible in the browser. No issuses with Aperture prior to upgrade. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have not been able to re-install raw 3.13 always says newer software and closes
    I have Aperture disc 1,2,and 3;
Followed commands to re-install from #3 no change in library's unsupported images when upgraded to 3.4.1
Uninstall again with Mac Cleaner all ?DLL files erased only library remains
Install #3 from disc and new permissions to open library"from newer version" and all of previous images restored, but new older ones start to blink out "they do not turn black but look like you are using rabbit ears to tune in your TV, scrambled" until viewed for processing then become unsupported.
Repaired 3.1 library and Aperture would open but not open library. Re-installed 3.4.1 many more images failing to load across entire 5700 Nef's library but not JPEG.
    Close but where is culprit?
Raw 4 is always there even in Aperture 3.1 due to Lion OSX8
3.4.1 is the only down loaded upgrade, new down load each time
Raw files/cameras are D200,D700,D800E and possibly Lecia DLUX-3
    IMAC 2.4 core 2 duo
    4G 667
    Radeon HD 2600
    OSX 10.8.2
no aperture problems since 1.0 until recent upgrades

  • Animation, when objects overlap, overlapped area turns different color?

    I'm designing a flash version of this site;
    http://www.1gdomains.com/
The main logo is made up of a '1' and a 'G'. In my animation,
I want the '1' to come down from the top and settle in the center
of the page. I then want my 'G' to come from the right and move
    into position, overlapping the '1'.
I know how to do this with a simple time frame based
animation, but how can I make it so that as the 'G' moves over the
'1' and starts to overlap, the overlapped area turns white? I want
the end of the animation to look like the site I liked above.
    thanks
    james

Ive got a movie called ‘1’ where the 1 comes from
from the top and stops in the center.
Ive also got a movie called ‘G’ where the G comes
from the right and stops in the center.
Ive got a top level movie called holderboth.
In that Ive got a movie called holder1, and holderG.
In holder1 the 1 gets a chunk taken out of it by the G, and
in holderG the G gets a chunk taken out by the 1.
If holder1 and holderG are some distance apart then they work
fine. Both the 1 and the G move and then have a chunk taken out of
them at the end. When I have them overlapping however, so they
finish in the position they need to, one will completely erase the
    other!
I think I understand why this is happening. I think the
‘1’ or ‘G’ which is set to erase is not
just erasing in its holder but also the other holder. How can I
    turn this off though?

    hedger,
How do you expect anyone to help when we don't know a darned thing about the file, abut your setup, exact version of Photoshop and your OS, machine specs, etc.?
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • Export Layers to Files; transparent areas something other than white?

I have a .PSD with 43 layers that I want to export to separate files. Works just fine using Scripts > Export to Layers...
...except that there are some transparent areas in each of the layers that I want to have a specific background color (the same for all 43 layers). PS keeps making those areas white.
Setting the background color in the toolbar seems to have no effect.
    Thanks...
    DB

It is too bad that it works like that. All I can suggest is that you make an action: New>Background from Layer, export to psd and then and run it with the Script.

  • 5.1.1 Chapter 4 Step 3 to 4: Record Button turn WHITE when Parameters are RED

This is an odd behavoir and is the opposite of the way it should be.
In the Apple Pro Training Series "Motion 5" book, Chapter 4, Step 3 to 4, when the Record Button is Red the Keyframeable parameters are White, and, when the the Record Button is WHITE the Keyframeable parameters are RED. This is just the opposite of what it should be.
With the Keyframeable Parameters white it looks like this:
When the Record Button is clicked on and activated, the KeyFrameable Parameters are Red (which is what I want) but the button turns white.
    Why should this be?

Thanks for trying to help out. I read your reply all the while still thinking about what was written in the book, and what you said makes sense. But, I'm having some difficulty trying to understand what the book is saying now. I had thought that in Step 3, when the Command-Z is pressed to undo the rotation that it would undo the change. In fact, the Properties Inspector numbers were white but the Record Button was red - just the button, not the area in the button square surrounding the button. Elsewhere/somewhere, I saw that the entire square around the button would turn red.
Since there has been an update to "5" since the book was written one thought was the red square was changed to turn red.
Anyway, I can't do anymore on this for the time being as there are other thing I have to work on so I'll have to revisit this later. I hate doing any steps beyond what I know is "perfect" because I don't want to get off course with the book. There are a few other things in my life besides studying the Motion 5 book. Not a whole lot, but enough.
Side note: After my original post I discovered a few things to edit but couldn't get the site to allow me to edit. For one thing, it isn't "Chapter 4", for anyone reading the book it's "LESSON 4". Don't want to confuse anyone who comes by later.

Putting your page through the html validator bought up a few errors
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.preferreddigitalprints.com%2F
The most important error is that the page isn't using a doctype.  This could account for the bugginess of the page.  A page without a doctype will render CSS in quirks mode and not display the page as intended in some browsers.
Please insert a doctype at the top of the document, then put the page through the validator again to see what errors remain, fix those, and hopefully the page will load OK.  I didn't look at the navbar images, but make sure that they are optimized for the web, because that can also cause a slow down on loading them.
I recommend using the transitional doctype.

Some images that use transparency when displayed on a web page, display black in the transparent zones when viewed in Photoshop Elements.
If I edit the images and load them to a web site, the zones display as transparent or black depending on the file format (PNG, GIF, JPG) and other elements I haven't been able to isolate.
What is this due to and how can I get transpency to display correctly when it appears black in Photoshop Elements?
    thx,

    Ascendo

Here is exactly what I am doing. I copy the "folder" image from the "get info" page (following a tutorial online to do my own folder icons). This is what the image pasted into SEASHORE looks like:
(the checkered background is the transparency)
This is what happens when I paste the same image into photoshop:
(that is the channels and layers included as requested)
You will notice that the background is NOT transparent, but white. I have checked the "transparent background" upon creation, and before pasting this item, Layer 1 was a 512 by 512 pixel transparent document. I have tried RGB 8, 16, 32 bit, and CMYK but those are not working. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Something wrong with .png format!

    Hey everyone, anyone!
Have you all noticed that there is an issue with the .png format? I have been on multiple boards now searching for an answer. Everyone is answering the people like they are noobs to the whole process.
I am not a noob, far from it. But I can't not save a transparent .png out on any format.
    Here are some facts.
If I save it as a .png on my mac, it is not transparent even though it shows as transparent in the document.
I have used 24 bit, I have checked the Alpha Channel and even made a alpha mask.
If I drag it to my pc, it does show up as transparent.
But...if I save a .png on the pc, it still has the white background on the mac.
I have icons on folders and documents that are transparent that I copied and pasted a couple of weeks ago, but those exact same files can not be copied and pasted as transparent anymore.
I first noticed a .png issue on an app that I use daily on my ipad. I figured it was just a problem of the programmer with the new system 8 update.
I do not have the new Apple System update on my ipad, iMac or Macbook Pro.
All three of them can not see a transparent .png file.
The boards are also full of people that can't write a transparent .png out of fireworks, inkscape, gimp or photoshop!
The forums all over the internet are full of Windows pc's that can't see a transparent .png file. What has happened, what has changed? What is going on?
Anyone on an insider track that can give insight into this issue?

In case anyone is wondering, I found the solution. I had a thought pop into my head (I have learned to listen to those!) What if it is the Mac desktop that is the issue? So I put the folder back into a finder window, pasted the icon and wallah! I have transparency! How wild is that? That seems like a Mac bug to me! What do y'all think?
I thought I would post an answer here in case anyone else has this problem! Case solved!
