Transparency issue when generating PDF from InDesign Server

Hi there
Has anyone experienced any issues with transparency appearing solid white when generating a PDF from the InDesign server? There is no issue when exporting from the InDesign application, only when using the Server.
Any pointers / suggestions would be much appreciated
Thanks
Davey

Davey, please send me an InDesign Server document that I could use to reproduce this problem. My e-mail address is [email protected] Thank you. --DougR

  • Font issue in exported PDF from indesign

    Font issue in exported PDF from indesign:
    In Indesign file we have kept a sentence in “Univers LT Std” (San serif font) with all caps style that was orginally in lower case. Refer below
    When we selected the sentence in exported PDF some of the characters are not selected. Refer below.
    If we enable “create tagged PDF“ in export PDF setting, then the problem is solved. Refer below.
    Can you please check why this problem happened? In another project also we have faced this same problem but different font “Frutiger LT Std” with all caps style. Here also same San serif font. Please check and advise to solve this issue permanently.

    Without tags a PDF is a silly amount of letters, images and lines, with tags all itams a kept in their semantic context. So work with tags as it is the only way to get correct selections and export to other file types like Word DOCX.
    Without tags InDesign reads from left to right from top to bottom and the font geometry might influence the correct order of letters.
    Why should anyone work without tags today? If you open a tagged PDF in Acrobat DC it is much faster than without tags.

  • Can't Choose Page Range when Exporting PDF from InDesign

    Hi!  Ever since I upgraded to CS6 via your subscription, I can't choose a page-range when exporting to PDF from InDesign (8.0.1).  Here's a video demonstration of the problem so you can see the bug in action:  http://screencast.com/t/kYR1ACtNi
    Are you aware of this bug?  If it's not a bug, how do I fix it?

    Alternate layouts are used for things like horizontal and vertical orientations of the same layout for use on tablets. I suspect there's some coverage in the Help files -- being a print guy I don't mess with them.
    It may be that you only have one layout and ID just shows you that one inthe dropdown. I can't recall that I ever used the dropdown to try to select the range -- I always just type what I need in the field.

  • REP-0499 when generating PDF from report

    Hi,
    I have a simple query in data model where I'm selecting Oracle database object :
    select a.shape from table a;
    shape is shapedefinition type that is composed of :
    Axis varchar2(1),
    x number(2),
    y number(2),
    z number(2)
    when I generate report it works fine but when I try to generate to PDF file I get this error : REP-0499: Column 'Axis' selected by the query is incompatible with report definition
    But when I run similar report but database object is composed entirely of number types I don't have this prob.
    As far as I can tell, nothing has been changed in Database and it seems like this error only happens when I try to select from database object that contains varchar2 type.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Keeyang

  • Error message when creating PDF from Indesign and Photoshop

    Hi, I reinstalled my Adobe CS2 product, and now get an error message each time I create a PDF from either InDesign or Photoshop. The message reads:
    The instruction at "0x0045c9e5" referenced memory at "0x0215ebdc". The memory could not be "read".
    I appreciate any help in resolving this issue.
    Thanks --Alex

    How do you create the PDF? There are multiple ways and it might make a difference.

  • Issue when generating XPDL from process flows

    I have a process flow which has the following architecture.
    It begins with a Start activity called “START1”. START1 has two parameters P_MESSAGE_TYPE and P_MESSAGE_ID. These parameters are populated from values provided by an external process. From START1 an unconditional transition goes to a ROUTE activity. Leaving the ROUTE activity are 18 conditional transitions and 1 unconditional transition.
    The 18 conditional transitions each perform a test on the parameter value supplied in P_MESSAGE_TYPE. The value supplied is checked against a string value (they all check for different values, e.g. 'referenceEngineeringInstructionRecordExtract'). The 1 unconditional transition provides an “emergency exit” should something come through that does not match any of the 18 conditions.
    If there is a match against one of the 18 conditions then that particular transition is followed and a sub-process on the end of that transition is executed. Flow then continues from that sub-process on to an OR operator (which brings together the exit transitions from all 18 of these sub-processes) before the flow ends with the ususal Success, Error and Warning activities.
    Here is the problem. When I build this process flow from scratch it generate out the XPDL it works fine. The XPDL generated around some of the conditional transitions looks like this:
    <Transition Id="TRANSITION_4" From="MESSAGE_TYPE_ROUTER" To="R_EI_PART_CHANGE">
    <Condition Type="CONDITION">
    <Xpression>"P_MESSAGE_TYPE" ='referenceEngineeringInstructionPartChangeRecordExtract'</Xpression>
    </Condition>
    </Transition>
    <Transition Id="TRANSITION_5" From="MESSAGE_TYPE_ROUTER" To="R_ENGINEERING_INSTRUCTION">
    <Condition Type="CONDITION">
    <Xpression>"P_MESSAGE_TYPE" ='referenceEngineeringInstructionRecordExtract'</Xpression>
    </Condition>
    </Transition>
    <Transition Id="TRANSITION_6" From="MESSAGE_TYPE_ROUTER" To="R_FATIGUE">
    <Condition Type="CONDITION">
    <Xpression>"P_MESSAGE_TYPE" ='referenceFatigueParameterRecordExtract'</Xpression>
    </Condition>
    </Transition>
    Here the complex condition in the transitions can be seen as, for example, *"P_MESSAGE_TYPE" ='referenceEngineeringInstructionPartChangeRecordExtract'* which appears in the process flow editor in the form *"START1"."P_MESSAGE_TYPE"='referenceEngineeringInstructionPartChangeRecordExtract'*
    and these are all consistent throughout, i.e. every transition in thn process flow editor shows the “START1” which then seems to get stripped off during the XPDL generation.
    Now, if I make a change to the flow (e.g. remove a sub-process or add a new sub-process) and regenerate the XPDL what usually gets generated is of this form:
    <Transition Id="TRANSITION_4" From="MESSAGE_TYPE_ROUTER" To="R_EI_PART_CHANGE">
    <Condition Type="CONDITION">
    <Xpression>"P_MESSAGE_TYPE" ='referenceEngineeringInstructionPartChangeRecordExtract'</Xpression>
    </Condition>
    </Transition>
    <Transition Id="TRANSITION_5" From="MESSAGE_TYPE_ROUTER" To="R_ENGINEERING_INSTRUCTION">
    <Condition Type="CONDITION">
    <Xpression>"START1"."P_MESSAGE_TYPE" ='referenceEngineeringInstructionRecordExtract'</Xpression>
    </Condition>
    </Transition>
    <Transition Id="TRANSITION_6" From="MESSAGE_TYPE_ROUTER" To="R_FATIGUE">
    <Condition Type="CONDITION">
    <Xpression>"P_MESSAGE_TYPE" ='referenceFatigueParameterRecordExtract'</Xpression>
    </Condition>
    </Transition>
    What can be seen here is that for some reason the generator has kept the “START1” context of P_MESSAGE_TYPE in the test for referenceEngineeringInstructionRecordExtract (and for two others that I haven't included) but not for the remaining 15 which appear as normal. This results in code that falls over at runtime. I haven't touched these conditional transitions between edits. They are uniquely sequenced and the process flow validates successfully.
    Has anyone else seen this issue before? I can’t find any reference to it either in MetaLink or in the forums.

    Hi David,
    Thanks for the reply. The client version is 10.2.0.2.8 on a 10.2.0.2 repository. I suspect that it is something internally buggy. I have since found other issues - like I open up one process flow and choose the "Generate" option from the menu, whereupon it generates the XPDL for the last process I opened and not the current one...seems like there are several issues in this area.

  • Table Header not Recurring - when Generate PDF from HTML with tables

    Hello,  It is not working as expected...and I'm not sure if the functionality is supported.  Want to create PDF from html document. The html document contains a html table that typically contains a large number of rows.  To make reading easier the html table used thead and tbody elements, and their children, so that when the table extends across pages when printed the header element recurs on each page.  However, the header element is not recurring in the generated PDF document (it only occurs in the first row of the table).  Just wondering if you have tried or used this functionality (created PDF from html with table with headers and the PDF included the table with recurring table header.  And if so, did you do anything special to make it work.  Thanks for any insight.

    If there's a problem with that package, I suggest you speak to the developer of that package and ask them to investigate.  It's not an Oracle supplied package so you are wrong to look for help here.

  • Error message when generating PDF from PageMaker

    Hello, Unfortunately my client is still using PageMaker, despite the fact that it is no longer supported. Usually, I have no problem, but this is the error I have had today:
    %%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: get; ErrorInfo: CharOffsets fonts/TimesNewRomanPSMT%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
    %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
    I'm on Vista, with Acrobat 8.1.3 and I'm printing to PDF from PageMaker 7. It seems to be a font problem, but I don't know how to solve it.
    Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

    Finally managed to get the first two of the 3 books (making up the full publication) printed by doing "Export". The third one, which has been causing all the trouble has started giving me the font message again:
    %%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: get; ErrorInfo: CharOffsets fonts/TimesNewRomanPSMT%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
    %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
    I had ensured that the PDF box said "warn and continue".
    I also get a dialog box telling me that only even pages will be printed, although I have specified even/uneven in the print dialog, and that blank pages will not be printed, although I have checked the blank page box.
    Have tried to "Print" to PS and I have managed to generate a PS file with only a message telling me that Helvetica Neue could not be incorporated, which is fine. However, if I then try to create a PDF, I get the message above. Does this mean that my problem is with Distiller rather than in the file?
    I have never had this problem before, and am baffled.

  • Initial View set with epilogue.ps when exporting pdf from Indesign

    Hi all. After years of Quarking, Freehanding, Pagemakering and my favourite, Indesigning, i finally got down to investigating a one step solution to setting the initial view in pdfs.
    When distributing pdf 'layouts' and 'proofs' to clients i always set the pdf's initial view to fit page before emailing. It is simply the pro thing to do, and allows for a client to view the 'big picture' without having to first see a close-up of the top of a layout or design.
    In the same breath i would set a business card layout to open at 125% or 150% so they get a feel for the actual size of finished product.
    Well all these years of pdf proofing i have been hitting the old ⌘-D in Acrobat and manually setting initial view to fit page. Then ⌘-S and "bobs your uncle".
    Ready to email.
    Huge deadlines aside, this morning i woke up early, and decided to have a good look online as to what one can do to automate this small, but oh so repetitive task. Well reading about the prologue.ps and epilogue.ps, got me really excited, especially when i implemented a little postscript tweak to the epilogue.ps, and distiller saw it through beautifully.
    Alas my elation was short lived as it seems Indesign uses it's own 'distiller' so to speak and does not see the epilogue.ps.
    And i am definitely not going to start printing ps files to a 'watched folder'. I spent years distilling manually, and since Indesign and it's superb built in pdf-ing, i have never looked back.
    So looks like we are all gonna have to continue ⌘-D ing, till adobe picks this up and changes the build to accomodate.
    Just wanted to put this out there, and see perhaps if anybody has another take on this one. Am i missing something. If i am please let us all know.
    Many thanks,
    Rupert Pluck

    If you upgrade to InDesign CS5, there are two ways to export a PDF file: (1) For Print. This this does not include the option to set Initial View (2) For Interactive. For Interactive PDF's you can set the Initial View in InDesign.

  • InDesign 5.5 crashes when generating PDF from book file

    I hope someone can help!
    My employer has agreed to upgrade from CS3 to CS5.5 and I will receive the install disks next week. In the meantime, I downloaded the trial version of CS 5.5 Design Premium and installed only Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat. I kept CS3 on my system.
    My problem is with InDesign5.5. I can generate a PDF of a single page, but I cannot do the same for a multi-page document (10 or so files) from the book window. InDesign immediately crashes (unexpected close message) but doesn't close until I force quit the application. When both CS3 and CS5.5 were on my machine, I was having the same problem even with CS3.
    I removed CS5.5, but still had the same problem with CS3. Tried reinstalling CS3, but continued to have the same problem. Removed CS3 and re-downloaded CS5.5. Same problem. Removed CS5.5 again and completed a fresh install of CS3. This finally worked to allow me to use CS3 successfully again.
    However, I need to be able to work with newer InDesign files that have been created in ID5.5 and can't do this without installing the new disks that arrive next week.
    What can be the problem?
    OS: Windows XP Professional 2002, SP 3
    Computer: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9600, 2.80 GHz
    Memory: 3.48 GB of RAM
    Video card: 512 MB NVIDIA Quadro RX 2700M
    Thank you!
    Jenny

    Yes, I would try to create a new master document and import the separate files. Even if you have saved all files to CS5.5 spec, there might still be some lingering meta data from the previous version and a fresh import might at least reveal such conflicts or ideally provide a clean slate by dismissing this outdated legacy stuff on import. If you are happy with CS5.5 and everything works, you can get rid of CS3, but I recommend to keep it around, even if you don't use it actively (maening löeave it installed, only deactivate it). Especially the CS3 installer is a fragile creature and a uninstall gone wrong might cause you more trouble than just letting it catch dust on your harddrive. See this article and the other ones related to it on my site for some considerations.

  • Font substitution issues when creating PDF from PS file in Distiller

    I am not sure if this post should go under Distiller Server, but it dont know if there is a difference between Distiller X and Distiller Server.
    Context: I am trying to convert postscript files on my PC that originate from a unique Mac built program and unfortunately receive the following error message:
    %%[ Warning: Helvetica not found, using Font Substitution. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
    %%[ Warning: Helvetica-Bold not found, using Font Substitution. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
    %%[ Warning: Helvetica-BoldOblique not found, using Font Substitution. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
    When I try and convert the postscript font to a pdf in Acrobat Distiller X the font substitutes to Arial. I have a few versions of Helvetica on my PC but Distiller doesn’t recognise them.
    My question is: how can I tell Distiller, as a default, to substitute to the Helvetica loaded on my PC rather than Arial so that I eliminate the error message and get an accurate pdf.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    You can set the folders in distiller by going to Settings.  See these two pictures (click on them)
    hope this helps.

  • Font issue when creating PDF from web page with Acrobat 8

    I have a group of documents created with html/css that i am converting to pdf. Everything works slick except for some reason every HTML page that spans more than one printable page in the PDF the first page body text looks bold, the rest of the text (on the subsequent pages) is not. I have 15 documents linked together and its doing it for everyone one, first page looks bold rest of pages not.
    I have checked all the font attributes in both the pdf and the html, there is nothing set to bold and all fonts have the exact same settings...
    Does anyone know what is going on? I am pretty green with Acrobat but not new to web tech.
    What am I missing here?
    Also when printed it looks fine, no issues, issues only in screen view...
    HELP!!
    Thanks
    Scott

    It may be that the page sizes are varying and you are seeing a zoom affect. Try setting the size to a specific value and see if it looks the same. That's a guess anyway.

  • Automatically display the Bookmarks panel when generating PDFs from Word

    I have about 500 PDFs to generate and I like to have the Bookmarks Panel & Page as the setting in File Properties - Initial View - Navigation Tab. I am generating the PDFs directly from Word using the Acrobat Plugin. I was hoping I wouldn't have to make this setting manually for every PDF...
    Thanks in Advance!
    Camille

    You can use a action in Acrobat X Pro to set the initial view of all documents in a folder.
