Transparency Marks in PDF

I have started using InDesign recently with one minor problem. It is all fine until I export using  PDF/X-1a:2001 (as I have been erecommened to do as it converts to CMYK etc). When I then view the PDF it shows slight frame edges around objects, however i have no stroke etc selected. When i export using any other PDF preset or as a JPG these do not appear. Having googled the issue it appears that they are just transparency lines which will not print, however i'm a bit hesitant to send jobs to clients/print with these appearing.
All advice would be appreciated.
I'm using CS5 on OsX

As Steve says, but…I would go back to whomever recommended that and ask why.
The 2001 in that standard is the year. X/1-a is very old standard used in archaic workflows and it's really not unheard of for publications to ignore their file specs even after updating equipment and workflows.

  • Printing a pdf from a marked-up pdf.

Acrobat Pro 9 no longer lets me print a pdf from a marked-up pdf.  Any suggestions?

Look everyone that comes here with a support problems has gone through all the normal channels, around and  round in circles with no one seeming to be interested. They've called every phone number, every email address they can find. They have been put on hold and bounced fifty times to another operator only to be hung up on. If Adobe would bring back support to main land and have people that know what's going on instead of having people that people can barely understand read from scripts. Scripted information only applies about 10 % of the time. I'm just giving people an alternative. after they have torn their hair out going the normal route.  If they had been able to get a solution they wouldn't be coming here for help.
There should be a forum set up just for people to air these issues and Adobe employees forced to man it. Then we wouldn't have to have such a Bad attitude. Right now Adobe's Support reputation is worse than Intuit's which did have the absolutely worse on the Planet. Now they are number 2.
You know it yourself that Adobe's support is absolutely worse than terible. However to prevent me from being banned from the forums I will simply will provide the adobecare email address from now on
So let's sweep it under the rug.

  • Book marks in PDF

    Hi,
I would like to convert a Word document into a PDF file.  But only chapter headings not their chapter numbers form this WORD document schould be converted in book marks in the PDF file.
I use WORD 2002 and Adobe Acrobat 8.
    For example:
chapter heading in WORD "1.1 First steps"
book mark in PDF  "1.1 First steps"
I'd like "First steps"   in PDF
Any idea how this can work?
    Thanks in advance

It looks like you are filling a buffer here
    PDBookmarkGetTitle(bmObj, bmName, bufSize);
    and overflowing that buffer here
    strcat(bmName ,",");
    strcat(bmName, tesmpPagenum);
If that is the case, you will have problems which could appear at anytime after code execution.
Also, in the code below, the connection between  bufSize and the alphanumeric string size of bmPageNum is not obvious.
                  tempPagenum = (char*)ASmalloc((os_size_t)bufSize);
                  itoa(bmPageNum, tempPagenum, 10);

  • How do you add preloaded shapes to mark up PDFs on the Adobe Reader Mobile App?

I have Adobe Reader on my tablet.  I need to be able to make clean markups on PDFs when I do surveys.  I need to be able to draw straight lines, circles, arrows, and polygons neatly.  I am not able to do it with the free hand tool cause it is too messy.  Is there a way to add preloaded shapes when marking up PDF drawings?

    Hi,
Unfortunately, this functionality is not available in Adobe Reader on Android. We have made a note of the same and shall try to incorporate it soon.
    Thanks,

  • Preview Issues with Marked-up PDF

Marked up PDF's seem to display incorrectly all the time in Preview. I marked-up three PDFs using (1) Bluebeam (2) Adobe Professional and (3) PDF Pen. Each of these files opens perfectly fine in each other software. However Preview displays all three PDF's incorrectly. For e.g., the text is upside down, moved to a different location, arrows pointing to blank space etc. Is there a setting or something that is wrong. How can this be resolved?

Install the latest updates using Software Update and I think you'll find the latest Font fix will resolve your problem.

  • Is there a way to avoid transparency artifacts on pdf files

Hey everyone I'm running into a bit of a problem with indesign, I'm designing a digital magazine and I'm wanting to combine imported photos with vector shapes created in indesign, I'm using one of the vector shapes and overlaying it on a segment of a photo, however if I export the document as a pdf both the photo as well as the vector shape have while streaks around their edges, apparently this is a common artifact when using transparencies in indesign, being that the destination of my document is meant for digital and not print, is there anyway to not have this artifact occur? Or can you just not use transparencies when doing digital publishing whithout these white lines occuring?

Exporting live transparency (PDF/X-4) would avoid the flattening artifacts, but not all PDF readers handle live transparency correctly, and there's no color management on many mobile devices (iOS), so if the final destination is a PDF you want flattened sRGB.
Try making an all raster flattener preset and use it on export. Something like this where the Raster/Vector Balance is all rasters:

  • Crop Marks on PDF docs visible in Preview

    Hi There,
When I view a .pdf document in Safari, I see the page(s) as I believe the author meant for them to be viewed - but when I ctl-click and open with preview, the resulting file opens and shows all the printers marks - such as registration, colour bars etc etc.
    Does anybody else get this?
The 2 issues for me are (1) manually having to crop other peoples work in Preview, and (2) the concern, that when I crop my documents in Acrobat to remove that information, that this is in vain when other folks read my documents in preview.
    Cheers

    Hi,
Acrobat 9 and older versions paste images as a stamp/comment which (that poorly functional) Preview cannot see, so you need to "flatten" the page if you want to see a pasted picture in Preview.
(Preview, Mail and QuickLook shares the same rendering library)
You can easily flatten one or several pages in a PDF using this free tools: http://abracadabrapdf.net/articles.php?lng=fr&pg=717

  • How can i mark books (pdf) in iBooks  on my iPad?

    Hello,
I am using the new update - and Mavericks on my Macbook. I want to synchronize those marks and annotations, but i don't know how to make an annotation or marks in iBooks on my iPad -
    please help! thank you!

I've been looking at this today also, unfortunately it looks like there is no option in iBooks either in Mavericks or iOS to annotate and sync those notes via iCloud, when the book is in PDF format (despite the implication that you can). Best I have found, is that bookmarks sync between iOS devices, but not to Mavericks.
The annotation option is not present in iOS, and the PDF just opens in Preview in Mavericks, rather than iBooks.
    I found this workaround helped:
    1) Convert the PDF to ePub format - you can easily do this here for free: http://ebook.online-convert.com/convert-to-epub
    2) Add the converted ePub book to iBooks on Mavericks. (Add to Library from the File menu)
    3) Sync the book to iOS using iTunes in the normal way (the ePub book will automatically appear under Books in iTunes)
    4) You can now annotate by selecting the text in the book (in either Mavericks or iOS) and these changes push via iCloud provided this is all setup normally. In iBooks on Mavericks, you may need to Authorise the computer.
    5) Then to annotate In iOS, highlight the text, the popup menu gives the option to add notes.
    Hope this helps

  • Is it possible to flatten transparency in a pdf using Adobe Reader or do I have to buy Acrobat?

I'm trying to create a book cover PDF using publisher and then saving as a pdf. But, that isn't flattening the transparencies. I only have Adobe Reader and am hoping that program will allow me to flatten the transparency in the native document. If I can't do this, odd lines show up on my printed books. Any ideas?

Modifying an existing PDF file is several magnitues more complicated than creating one from scratch. The PDF standard is VERY complicated and contains a myriad of features with their specific syntax elements. In order to modify an existing PDF you have to be able to understand every syntax element that occures in the PDF, or you may end up corrupting the file.
When you create a new PDF you can pick out the syntax elements that your tool supports and forget about the 95 other procent.
There are many PDF Toolkits than can create PDF files, a few that can open PDF files and present them, and almost none that can edit them. The Adobe PDF Editor being one of the few that can do that, but nobody is going to give away such a Toolkit for free.

  • Removing crop/reg marks from PDF

    I'm using Acrobat 8 Pro.
I need to place individual pages from a PDF (for which I do not have -- and cannot get -- the native files) in an InDesign document.
I need to remove the crop marks and registration marks from the PDF pages. (They weren't offset properly, so they extend into the bleed area.) I know how to do it manually, but there are a lot of pages and I'm looking for an easier way out.
I could have SWORN that I had once stumbled upon a setting/option to remove all marks that were outside the image area, but I didn't make a note of it and can't find any such option. (It might not work in this case anyway, since the marks do overlap the image, but I still want to know if the capability is there.)
At this point, I'm seriously thinking that maybe I dreamed it.
Does such an option exist? If not, is there some way to remove those extraneous marks from all pages in a PDF in one fell swoop?
    TIA,
    Marlene

If I crop the pages so that the crop marks and registration marks are gone, the pages will be too small. I need to retain the full image size, but get rid of the marks that are jutting into the image.
Maybe I'm not explaining this clearly ... the bleed size of the image area on each page is correct. But the crop marks, instead of being offset so they fall OUTSIDE the bleed edge, actually extend into the bleed area.
The marks should be offset a couple points more than the bleed size -- e.g., if there's a 9 pt bleed, the marks should be offset 12 pts or 15 pts.
But they aren't -- they were offset less than 9 pts, so they don't fall outside the bleed edges. They extend into the bleed area.

  • InDesign Transparency Effect vs. pdf file size

I have an Interactive pdf that was created from InDesign. There is  "inner glow" is an effect style created box style. This box style is used a number of times in the 30  page document. The glow is a gradient from black to transparent which looks  like an inner shadow for the boxes (sample attached). When I generate the pdf file, size is about 12 Mgb, too large for the target audience.
When I alter the style in InDesign to say something simple like a 10%  black solid fill, the pdf file size decreases to about 1 Mgb.
Looked into "flattening transparency" options but this creates pdf that has none of the interactive buttons and links that are required.
Really would like to avoid creating these boxes in photoshop since there are about 40 different sizes of the box.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

For some reason I can't find reply on Forums site, so replying to this

Exporting an Interactive pdf using the attached (15.8) jpegs settings
creates a file that is 15.8 Mgb.
Exporting an Interactive pdf using the attached (14.5) jpegs settings

  • Displaying 4 as tick mark in pdf in mozilla firefox 20.0

I am displaying a pdf in aspx page. In mozilla firefox 20.0, instead of tickmark , 4 is displaying. i.e. when a radiobutton is selected, instead of Tick mark pdf is getting displayed with 4. i am not facing this issue with older mozilla firefox version like 16.0. what is solution or fix for this?
    Thanks & Regards,

hello, firefox 19 has introduced its own integrated pdf viewer - if you want to switch back to the plugin you've used before to view pdfs just go to firefox > options > applications & scroll down and define the default action for the '''portable document format (pdf)'''.

  • Stitch lines created when transparency flattened in PDF/X1a export from ID

Has there been any sure fire methods to avoid the digital stitch lines created in a PDF/X-1a due to transparency flattening during export from InDesign? Currently using CC and have done the usual things in an attempt to avoid the lines such as all text above transparent objects on a separate layer and 'Clip-Complex-Region' on export.
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi Tony ,
This seems to be an InDesign issue .
