Transparent graphic in layered background

I haven't used DVD Studio much, but I know this should be possible. I've designed all my menus in photoshop and in the background of all of them I have a graphic that is almost transparent, like a watermark. When I import the.psd file it won't show it as transparent, but shows it fully visible. I opened up my file back in photoshop and saved it as a .png to preserve transparency and it worked, but my question is how can I have that transparent .png in the background with the photoshop layers on top of it? So far from what I can see DVD Studio(3) isn't letting me put one graphic over another (.psd over the .png).

You will need to flatten the photoshop layer with the transparency down to a bacground layer (i.e. on white or whatever it is over)
Overall you are better using flattened PICT files for a base layer and one for an overlay, usually provides the best results (less weirdness/issues), though you can use the PSD method (remember to rasterize all text and flatten all layers with effects)

  • Issues w/ color when printing with a layered background

    Hello,
    I have designed a page in Illustrator that was intended for the web, and now the company wants print outs for a trade show.
    I have a multi-layered background,  and when printing off a laser printer, the greys are awful and streaky. I have a feeling it's because I've got dark grey layered over light grey over green (see pic), but what can I do to fix it? The client wants the background this way, but I'm not sure about the mechanics of it, I just know that it looks awful when printed.
    Thanks for any help!
    Jen

    It's going to be tough to match the RGB work you've done for the web and laser printers are a challenge.  You might have to rebuild the file or convert the colors to CMYK.  The grays will probably be the easy part ( 20%, 45% ), but the dark greenish blue will have to be remixed ( i.e., 100C, 18.5M, 0Y, 51K ).  I think you could use the existing elements, but you might have to expand them or divide them.  You should avoid layering or overlaying, just work with a flattened .ai file and see if that prints any better.  Raster elements, transparency, and layering effects are better handled via a Postscript 3 RIP + PRINTER.  If your laser is non-postscript and does not have a RIP ( raster image processor ), then the color will be problematic.  If you will be printing the sheets for the tradeshow using the laser, then whatever you mix will be able to be proofed ( by eye, I assume ) internally.  If you go outside and use a Kinkos or something, then color should be proofed using a contract proofer at your local prepress shop before sending it out to be printed.

  • How do I save an image (logo) transparent so that it will appear transparent on any color background such as a gradient or black?

    How do I save an image (logo) transparent so that it will appear transparent on any color background such as a gradient or black?
    I save image as "transparent" at File > New... but when I place on a gradient background it keeps appearing white. I'm trying to save transparent to be effective on any color such as a gradient or black.  How do I truly save as transparent?

    Put the logo on its own layer set the layer fill to 0 and add a layer style to the logo layer.  Here I duped one change fill to 0 added style.

  • Latest Adobe Acrobat X doesn't support PNG transparent graphic?

    So in the past using version 8.x I had no problem inserting graphics, including a signature that is a transparent PNG.  Now with the update to the latest studio 5.5 which came with Acrobat X 10.1.1 when trying to insert that graphic (which took a while to figure out how to do, edit object, right click ,insert image), it blocks out the lines/etc that are part of the document (it doesn't block out the other fields where I put edit fields), but it shouldn't be because it's a transparent graphic (PNG).

    After reading a few other articles in this forum  about smilar problems I found the answer myself: While Photoshop uses the ICA driver provided by Apple Acrobat doesn't. Acrobat requires the installation of the drivers and software provided by EPSON. This package can be found on the EPSON web site, but only when searching for drivers for Mac OS X.6 that also run on OS X.7.

  • Need transparency that selectively ignores background layers

    I have three overlapping objects in front of a background texture. The objects are partially transparent because I want the texture from the background to show through. However, where they overlap I'd like the top object to block out the lower two but still show the texture from the background... which is challenging me because of the whole transparency thing.
    Is there some sort of inverse masking? I can think of several very convoluted ways to do this but I need a more elegant solution.

    Select the three objects in front, group them. In the Transparency Panel, click the Knockout group box. You may have to click twice to be sure that the check or tick mark is showing, not the dash.

  • Getting a semi-transparent graphic onto a spot plate in InDesign CS6

    I'm struggling to get elements of a design onto the fifth colour plate in my InDesign file. Example is shown below. I have made a number of rough-edged strips that retain an element of semi-transparency along their edges (so that the background shows through slightly and gives a brushed/painted on effect). The client needs these elements to be on a fifth plate, Pantone 1385.
    I have tried making the graphic as a greyscale psd and as a greyscale tiff with transparency included, but I can't seem to select within InDesign using the content tool and making it on the fifth plate in my ID palette.
    Have done it as a CMYK psd for time being on example below just to allow me to show the client as a visual.
    Can anyone help me? I have also (briefly) explored channels in Photoshop as well but can't make and headway there too. Is there a simple solution?
    Many thanks for any advice.

    Thanks for reply, but I think this loses me all transparency?
    Make your grayscale file a transparent Monotone like this:
    In ID fill the background of the image frame with black:

  • Transparent Watermark not working, background turns white

    I have been sent a TIFF logo for a company and need to watermark some photos. I would like to do this via LR. I have version 4.4.
    I loaded the file into PS6, in order to change it to a Jpeg OR PNG.... to upload into the LR watermark edit area.
    I am unable to find PNG as an option in the "Save As" menu. So I tried "Save for Web".. I was able to save the file as a PNG, and when opened off the desktop, it does appear to be transparent. However, when uploaded into LR watermark graphic area... it suddenly has a white background again.
    I am seriously ripping my hair out. I have watched a zillion tutorial and read a bunch of recommendations... and it's still not working.... HELP ME PLEASE. There is obviously some little detail or setting that isn't the same...
    NOTE---> Not option for PNG in Save As menu....
    SAVING AS PNG IN THE "SAVE FOR WEB" MENU... (I also tried selecting PNG-24) .. neither worked.
    THE "TRANSPARENT" PNG File as it appears as a watermark.....

    It already is in RGB... tried that... still no SAVE AS menu.....  Also tried as 8bit and 16 bit....

  • White lines on transparancy graphics in Illustrator

    Hi Guys
    I don't quite know how to explain this but I just bought a vector on a renowned vector stock website.
    When I opened it, I noticed that there was this pop-up showing up:
    I clicked YES and the file opened.
    This is what it looks like in "Preview"
    You see the white lines near to the "glows" applied on the green elements?
    I also noticed these:
    See the fine - - - lines under <Path> ?
    Does anyone know how to fix this because even when saving to PDF etc. the white lines on the graphics appear
    Many thanks!
    Bob

    Hi,
    I found out that the white underlining dotted line in the layers name disappears when I do "Flatten Transparency".
    About the white lines around the glows etc.: only possible option to remove them was to "Flatten Transparency"...
    I noticed that the glowing layers were "Opacity Masked", maybe that is the reason why it didn't show as it should with white lines?
    Another question: The glows had Transparency Masks applied to them, but when I wanted to do sth with the opacity mask, I noticed that the mask itself was set next to the artboard? Does anyone know why they made it like this?
    And what about the symbols? How can I solve that?
    Many thanks!

  • Transparent graphic not completely transparent

    I have a line graph on which a gradient arc has been built in the lower left corner. This was in a Freehand file (created by a coworker) I've imported into Illustrator CS2 and am updating.
    In this file I am importing a graphic from Photoshop that has a transparent background.
    The entire graph, including the line and type shows through the transparent background of the imported graphic.
    But the areas of the gradient arc under the imported graphic show a white box where the transparent background should be. If I move the graphic with the transparent background to the back, the gradient arc covers it.
    When this graphic is selected, clipping path is greyed out under the Object menu.
    How do I get the gradient arc to show through the transparent areas of the graphic?

    Here are the screenshots. As you see, the skull graphic is transparent to all but the green-shaded arc.

  • How to handle transparent parts of layers in filter plugin?

    What is the right way to handle layers in a filter plugin so as to preserve the colors at the semi-transparent edges of the opaque parts of a layer?
    It seems the inData my plugin gets from Photoshop already has the image composited (based on the alpha channel) with a white background. So even if I just copy all the RGB and alpha data from inData back to outData, I end up with light-colored edges around the non-transparent parts of the layer. Simply setting inHiPlane=outHiPlane=3 (since all I really want to modify is the RGB data) doesn't seem to work either.

    Chris,
    I'm not sure what you mean by treating it as if there was no transparency. Simply copying the RGBA planes from inData to outData results in those light-colored edges. Likewise if I set inHiPlane=outHiPlane=3 and just copy the RGB planes.
    Can you tell me how to specify how the data should be matted? It seems to default to a white matte. Ideally, I would have thought I'd want to get from inData the color value at each pixel in the layer _before_ any matting is applied, along with the alpha values. Then for example, a red pixel at the edge that's 50% transparent would be RGBA = (255, 0, 0, 127). It seems like that's what my plugin needs to hand back to Photoshop (when I don't modify that pixel), in order for it to be able to correctly matte it against any background. Instead, what I get from inData is (255, 127, 127, 127), which then shows up when I hand it back as a pink pixel of 50% transparency on the edge. Can you tell me what I'm missing here?

  • Transparent Graphics Image

    Hey all,
    I have a couple questions regarding using a JPanel's Graphics object to get a an Image object and use that object as a "face" of 3D cube in Java3D.
    Right now, thanks to the help of many of you guys, I have gotten what I want. That is a cube that has painted on it the Graphics stuff from some JPanel. Now I want more.
    Is there a way to set the background to transparent instead of a certain color. I want to do this because I have two parallel planes that have something painted on them. I want to look straight onto the top one, and where there are "gaps" (where you would usually see the background color), you will instead see the plane behind it.
    Another thing is that I have mouse stuff implemented so you can move and rotate the 3D figure. If I flip around this 3D cube thing, of course I can't see the back (its just black). Is there anyway to have the back just show the front.
    What I am going for here is like drawing the Graphics stuff on a clear glass. Where there is nothing drawn, you can see through, and from the back, you can see through the glass to see the contents (backwards of course).
    Any ideas?
    Let me know if my descriptions are too vague.
    Thanks,
    armand

    Ok here is when I'm actually drawing the panel painting on the plane (i do the same for each plane):
    //... define points for plane
    Appearance appear = new Appearance();
    TextureLoader loader = new TextureLoader(bimage);
    ImageComponent2D image = loader.getImage();
    Material m = new Material();
    m.setDiffuseColor(0.1f,0.9f,0.9f);
    m.setSpecularColor(1.0f,0.0f,0.0f);
    m.setAmbientColor(0.9f,0.9f,0.9f);
    m.setShininess(25.0f);
    appear.setMaterial(m);
    // can't use parameterless constuctor
    Texture2D texture = new Texture2D(Texture.BASE_LEVEL, Texture.RGBA,
    image.getWidth(), image.getHeight());
    texture.setImage(0, image);
    appear.setTexture(texture);
    TransparencyAttributes ta =
         new TransparencyAttributes(TransparencyAttributes.NICEST,0.7F);
    appear.setTransparencyAttributes(ta);
    return new Shape3D(plane, appear);
    For the JPanel paintings, I tried to set the background color to transparent- the alpha value. While the JPanel's background is semi-transparent, I think when I capture it, it does not retain the semi-transparency. It just grabs whats on the screen- like if I wanted to print (I use the same idea for printing).
    I know my planes are transparent, because if I comment out the line
    appear.setTexture(texture);
    I get two transparent planes- I can see through them. As soon as I add the above line- which actually paints the JPanel painting on the transparent planes- I loose transparency.
    So I figure its something I need to do with the texture object, but I cant seem to get anywhere. Any help?
    thanks,

  • How do i stop PS from deleting transparent Pixels on layers?

    Hello community,
    i have a problem concering the place-function of Photoshop CS6. I want to include hundreds of png files in a psd file and i want them to keep their original size. Unfortinatly they have transparent borders and PS deletes these borders when you place the images in the PSD-file. For example: I have a square with x=50px and y=50px and it is positioned in an png with the dimensions x=100px and y=100px. I want to have these kind of files in my psd-file an need to keep their full dimensions, because my graphic specifications relate to the 100px/100px size and i need it later in my workflow.
    How do i stop PS from cutting off the tranparent borders of my images?

    Yes Free Transform has what was set during the place and you can see in the option bar if the layer has been scaled or is at 100 % width and height. You can also drag out guide line to the transforms bounding box. Then later measure the size or drop in a low opacity pixel in two diagonal corners to force the bounds to the png's canvas size.   However if you don't add those pixels in a script the bounds you get is that of the bounds of the non transparent pixels and in an action Ctrl|CMD clicking the layers content in the layers palette selects the non transparent pixels.
    My Photoshop Photo Collage populating scripts do not always fill an image area when they resizing odd shaped png images, However if the png is rectangular with transparent borders the script will fill the area with pixel for the scripts gets the bounds of the non transparent pixels, not the png canvas size. So resizing works well. There is a difference between layer size and canvas size in the png file. Layers can also be larger then canvas size in psd files Photoshop support any size layer you have the canvas act like a cropping mask on a document.

  • Transparent Graphics Object

    Alright, I have one graphics object that draws all of the main elements of the screen, and I have a buffered image that is modified through a second graphics object. I want to know how to make the background for the second object transparent, so that if I drew something onto it, then drew the buffered image into the main graphics object, I'd be able to see all the drawing done in the original graphics object behind the uncovered areas, sort of like an overlay. Code examples are highly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any replies.
    (PS: Right now when I draw the image, it covers up the entire screen with the color grey, making it impossible to see the objects behind it.)

    I wrote example for AWT because in SWING it can be done very easy. Run this code, it runs fine. Use only your image files.
