Transparent Layers not exporting

HI There - hoping someone can help me - I'm a flash beginner....
I have a flash file with a solid colour layer over a part of my visual that I have sent to 60% opacity using the alpha colour effect. All looks great in flash, but when I publish the file as a swf - the colour block is solid. I'm assuming I'm using the wrong export options, but don't really know the difference between them all. I'm publishing under flash lite 4 as I was told I needed to use this to make my movie compatible over mobile devices as well and normal web browers. Any suggestions....

No its a block of colour that is slightly transparent so that the text is visible and the image behind the block is faded - though the rest of the image is vibrant - does that make any sense. Take a look at www.equinoxaccess.com - the header graphics on each page have some testimonial text and has a solid background colour - its supposed to be see opaque, so I can see the rest of the image!

PDF layers not exporting

Hi, I created a document in Indesign with layers. I have that in acrobat and created buttons to show the different layers. I click a button, and that layer shows up. Great. But when I submit or save the pdf, the layers do not show up visible upon opening that file. I went into the layer properties and all layers have the 'Initial State' as 'Export When Visible' selected. So, i would assume that any layers that i have visible would be saved or sent if the form is submitted. But they are not. Has anyone had this issue? I'm not finding anything online about this. The only thing that does fix this is if i print the file to pdf.

After posting I kept researching and found the following:
If a PDF has been created with overprinting you must do two things to get the PDF to display properly and print.
Enable Overprint Preview: Edit > Preferences > Page Display - Change "Use Overprint Preview" to "Always". This will force the PDF to show everything. You can turn the feature back off later if you wish.
Enable Overprint Printing: File > Print - Click on Advanced button - Click on "Output" - Place a check in the box "Simulate Overprinting". The PDF should print as it displays on the screen.

Transparent layers for export to FCP

I've created titles in Motion and want to bring them into FCP, but they come in with a black background. I've done everything I can think of to create an alpha transparent channel/layer, but to no avail. Sure could use help!

Will not export one of 3 audio layers

I have tried to export a sequence, but 2 of the 3 audio layers will not export in any format (I've tied several -mp2, H.264 and even just audio in mp3 ). All audio layers play fine in the timeline and when nested in other sequences. However I have the same audio clips in other projects -also in similar layers, and they export without a problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks, the file in question …as it turns out was only one of the tracks (not “layer”…sorry), albeit the main track.
I found it as a low res sample off the net. I then slowed it down to 17% - and it sounded great on the timeline. I’ve used it in 2 projects. The first one had no problem.
However in the project in question, no matter what I tired –converting it to WAV in Premiere or whatever, It would play fine on the timeline, but not play when exported (to any format). I took the same file and re rendered it in Soundbooth as a stereo file –both mp3 and the much larger wav, and tied it again. Both files then would export…but the sound mysteriously changed pitch (without using any effects). I then threw up my hands and used Windows sound recorder. This worked. I converted the Windows media file to a wav and mp3 files…and they both work. Very odd!
BTW I prefer mp3 since it saves space, and I’ve had no inherent problem with them and cannot tell the difference with the audio with high quality Mp3s.

Anti-aliasing not working on new transparent layers in CS5

A problem has appeared in CS5 running on Lion where anti-aliasing isn't working on transparent layers.
If I create a shape and select it with the magic wand on the background layer and then Edit>Stroke I get a smooth line.
If I create a new transparent layer, create a shape, select with the magic wand and Edit>Stroke I get a jagged line.
This is driving me crazy. I've reset the settings and tried everything I can think of. It never used to do this, what's going on?

What’s with the Magic Wand?
If you create a Shape as Path you could »Load path as selection« or »Stroke path with brush« (see the bottom of the Paths Panel).
Edit: And you could load the transparency of the Layer by command-clicking its icon in the Layers Panel.
Or why not use the Layer Style Stroke?

Recent InDesign change suppresses non-printing layers when exporting to EPUB

I hate it when development teams quiety "fix" features I've come to rely on.
I am using InDesign CC 9.2.
Until a recent update, when I exported a book to EPUB from InDesign, layers which were set to show but not print were included in the export. I relied on this because my documents include a non-printed Table of Contents block on the first page of each piece included in the anthology. This block causes the correct page to be set when generating the TOC (notice that it's on the page facing the title, not the title page itself) and is used to print the correct title on the title page of each story and running headers throughout the body.

Up to at least January 2014, when I exported to EPUB, that visible-but-not-printed block was included in the XHTML output. I could then modify CSS to optimize for e-reader display and the title and author names would appear at the top of each piece. Sometime within the past couple of months, that has changed: layers that are not printed also do not export to EPUB. This wouldn't be so big a problem except that the printed title in the image above also is not output to the EPUB file, because it's a text variable in the underlying master page.
If you like reading and messing with markup, as I do, the next two images illustrate the problem.

I have five volumes of the anthology so far (comprising roughly 30 stories each) with a new one coming out every three months. Now that this change has been thrown at me, I need to get it resolved or come up with a good workaround while I only have a couple hundred documents to update, instead of double that a year from now.

Going back through every document to override Master Page objects just to get the elements to export is not a realistic workaround.
The change that suppresses visible but non-printing objects is annoying, but at least it's a documented change in 9.2. The change that suppresses all Master Page elements as well is not documented (or at least not documented in an obvious way) and so to me it's a bug.
Ideally, if these new changes are required by some users, the old behavior could at least become an option: the export to EPUB dialog could add checkboxes for "Include non-printing objects" and/or "Include Master Page elements" so that users like me are not left with no way to continue to use existing functionality.

Stitch lines created in a PDF/X-1a due to transparency flattening during export from InDesign

Has there been any sure fire methods to avoid the digital stitch lines created in a PDF/X-1a due to transparency flattening during export from InDesign? If I attempt to edit the PDF using the Acrobat Edit Text and Graphics tool the PDF is actually carved into sectors and images are not selectable as a whole. Also contrary to what I have read those white lines do indeed image from time to time. I could export as PDF/X4 to preserve the transparency but on occasion it would be advantageous to flatten it before supplying to the printer. Currently using CC and have done the usual things in an attempt to avoid the lines such as all text above transparent objects on a separate layer and 'Clip-Complex-Region' on export.

If the default High Res flattener preset is stitching make a custom preset that's all rasters and use it in the advanced tab of the PDF/X-1a preset

Liquify Filter causing semi-transparent layers to become brightened

Hi,
I'm having an issue with the Liquify Filter's final results. When using the filter it works fine, and if I use the filter on a solid layer its results given back to the original image are perfect also.
However, using the filter on a layer that has mostly transparency behind it (a layer with sketched line-art on it for example), the result given back to the original image is brightened significantly. The only work-around I have found so far is to merge a solid colour background to the transparent layer, and then the result works fine. However this is not desirable because future use of the image as line-art requires editing to get it back onto its own layer that can be destructive when the work contains tonning.
Is there any fix for this?

I have encountered the same problem with brightening of mostly transparent layers when using Liquify.
I'm using the latest version of Photoshop-CS6 on an HP Pavillion p6 series that came installed with Windows 8.

Transparent PNG not working in Snow Leopard w Final Cut 3.5&4

I recently changed from a G5 mac to a Mac Pro. I had FCE HD 3.5 which supposedly is not supported in Snow leopard..although it did work.
Anyways, when dragging a PNG or PICT image to the base video layer, then dragging a transparent background(white)character image to a layer on top of that...I remember when i was in Macos X Tiger with FCE 3.5, after selecting the top layer and setting composite mode to SCREEN.. it would perfectly make the white background transparent. Awesome..
Well that hasn't worked since i switched to Snow leoplard. I thought it was a problem because i had FCE 3.5 so i bought FCE 4 yesterday
So i decided to upgrade and still doesn't work.
Instead of getting a transparent BG.. the top video layer where i placed the PNG image of a character with a white bg still has the white bg..and the inside of the character is semi transparent..
not what i want.
I even tried the new feature in FCE 4 where you go to Modify and Sepect ALPHA white. and that didn't work either.
What's going on.. ONly specific PNG formats have transparency in FCE???
By the way I'm exporting PNG out of a 3D program called DAZ Studio 3.That program doesn't have the ability to export as Animation CODEC( like in poser)or any other codec for that matter. it only exports movies as MOV or image series PNG or single PNG images.

Here is a correctly formated PNG file with transparency.
You can download it to test in your sequence by Control-Clicking and selecting "Download Linked File As . . ." from the drop down menu [HERE|http://www.spotsbeforeyoureyes.com/Test.png]
You simply need to place it on a video track above any other clip to see if the effect works or not.
Please post if this graphic works for you.

Transparent Layers, help please !!

I'm having the following problem that i really need to solve. I have a graph and over the graph I need to display transparent layers that contain some images.. the thing is that I don't know what to use.. i've tried jpanel with setOpaque(true) on, jlayeredPane and nothing nothing is working... can anyone please help me? thanx a lot.

First of all, opaque is the opposite of transparent. So calling setOpaque(true) on any well-behaving component is the best way to guarantee it will not be transparant.
You can get some nice transparancy effects with AlphaComposite. E.g.,
//in the class that draws your graph

Text editing with transparent layers

Not sure if this is an acrobat question but....I would like to be able to use transparent layers with text documents (few if any images included) to high
light, mark-up, and comment on text. The text documents would come from scanned images, WORD or an existing PDF.
I want transparent layers so I can focus on different aspects of the text. To simplify assume I want to highlight subjects on one layer and predicates on another. Then I would like to be able to see the text with either the subject layer or the predicate layer or both layers together. Is this possible in Acrobat? If not how about Illustrator or another Adobe product?

Which functions and features in Numbers are NOT exported correctly to Excel?

I wish to know EXACTLY which functions I use in a Numbers sheet WILL FAIL to export correctly to an Excel or Neoffice spreadsheet.
For instance, I created a Numbers spreadsheet using prolific use of the IFERROR function. However, when I EXPORT to XLS, all the cells that used the IFERROR function were replaced by the literal value of the cell. My IFERROR formulae were not EXPORTED as I had expected.
I note that some formulae were converted correctly in my EXPORTED spreadsheet: eg MAX, MIN, AVERAGE.
I understand that IFERROR was a function introduced recently to Excel, ie in the 2007 version. Consequently, I suspect that Numbers exports to a pre-2007 version of Excel. If so, which version?
I have found this list that shows which functions are compatable amongst various versions of Excel:

Some examples of my use of ISERROR in Numbers are as follows:
=IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")

=IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
I use the above function to carry out the calculation ONLY IF a cell is non-blank and contains a number.
More questions
What are the rules that Numbers uses to convert to Excel?
Is Numbers converting to the 2003 version of Excel? ... or an earlier version? ... which version?
Why desn't Numbers advise me there were conversion errors or simplifications made?
eg: "Cell A33 Function IFERROR was exported to the cell value for Excel"
Is there a preference that I can select which version of Excel that Numbers will export to?
In the meantime, I must abandon Numbers and use NeoOffice!

However, a caution for young players....
Certainly, the ISERROR function exports to .xls. However, it behaves differently in NeoOffice.
Items 1 and 2 function identically in the case of say, ranking a row in which some cells are blanks.
Item 3, when translated using ISERROR to =IF(ISERROR(C32-C88+1),"", C32-C88+1), results in "" (ie error is raised) in Numbers but yields figure 0 in NeoOffice when there is a blank in either of the cells.
I recall from programming school in the mid-1970s that using GOTO statements and On Error branch statements were not admissible as routine programming steps. In fact, we received an automatic fail grade if we used a GOTO or GOTO like construction. So, I have found a more programmatically elegant way to solve my problem: eg:
=IF(C88="","",C32-C88+1)
Curiously, earlier I found/suspect this does not work equivalently in Numbers and NeoOffice:
=IF(ISBLANK(C88),"",C32-C88+1)
When you try using ISBLANK you always get an intuitively unexpected result because ISBLANK ONLY gives TRUE when there is absolutely nothing in a cell. A Formula reference in the cell, even if the function result yields "", gives FALSE... because, according to the definition of ISBLANK the cell contains a formula.
As I tell my students, ALWAYS lookup the HELP on any function you use. ALWAYS test the function to see how it performs!.... and lesson 3: Always test your spreadsheet on different systems.... then hope!

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing on your iPhone. It sounds like you are not noticing transparency on your iPhone. It may be that you have "Increase Contrast" turned on in your iPhone settings.
I recommend verifying that Increase Contrast is turned off in Settings>General>Accessibility.
