Transport & Management of XI Objects in diff Env.

Hi
Currently our System landscape is having ONE DEV SAP R/3 Server, ONE TEST SAP R/3 Server with 4 clients and ONE PROD SAP R/3 Server & ONE SAP XI DEV Server and ONE SAP XI PROD server.
I integrated DEV & TEST ( 3 Clients ) SAP R/3 Servers with Non-SAP Business Systems using SAP XI DEV Server. In SLD, I created different product & SWCV for DEV & TEST SAP R/3 servers & two Technical Systems for DEV & TEST SAP R/3 servers & 5 Business Systems ( 1 for DEV & 4 for ( 4 clients ) TEST SAP R/3 Servers )
Now I would like to integrate one client of TEST SAP R/3 Server & PROD SAP R/3 Server with SAP XI PROD server.
I plan to maintain Master SLD in DEV SAP XI Server for this I will create SLD objects for PROD SAP R/3 Server & then I will export complete DEV SLD to SLD of PROD SAP XI Server. I will transport the IR objects of DEV XI Server using File transfer method to PROD XI Server. Using this approach I will be able to integrate one client of TEST SAP R/3 Server with PROD XI Server. But as I created different product & SWCV for PROD SAP R/3 Server in SLD, I will be having different SWCV in IR of PROD XI Server so I need to copy the design objects from TEST SWCV to PROD SWCV in PROD XI Server.
Now in order to maintain the consistency of objects between TEST & PROD objects I have to manually keep the track of changes & copy them everytime.
Is their any other way to efficiently manage the changes between different environments & maintaining consistency w.r.t to above mentioned landscape.
I already read " How to Handle the SLD for SAP XI " & weblog <a href="/people/sap.india5/blog/2005/11/03/xi-software-logistics-1-sld-preparation XI Software Logistics 1: SLD Preparation "</a> but not able to find the efficient way.
Can you pls. suggest.

Bhavesh
As we have one DEV XI Server only so I created different Product & SWCV for DEV & TEST SAP R/3. For e.g
<i>ORG_Dev, 1.0 of AB
ORG_Test, 1.0 of AB</i>
I imported these SWCV in Dev XI IR & Integration content is same but having different namespaces for both the SWCV so I actually copy all the objects from DEV SWCV to TEST SWCV. I can't use Release Transfer in this case, as the target namespaces must have the same names as those namespaces from which we want to transfer the objects.
Now if you will ask " Why different namespaces ? " , initially we had the different System architecture & I designed my software logistics according to that but in middle one of the DEV XI server was scrapped & I transported all my IR content to TEST XI Server which is in current situation is DEV XI Server.
Now what am I thinking to transport the SAP R/3 TEST SWCV ( as I have to maintain one of the TEST client ) in PROD XI Server. Then I will import TEST SWC & PROD SWC of SAP R/3 in PROD XI, also I will lock the object attributes of PROD SWC of SAP R/3 ( so that objects cannnot be modified ) & will use Release Transfer to transport the objects from TEST SWC to PROD SWC. And whenever there will be any enhancement in TEST SAP R/3, I will update Integration content in both DEV & PROD XI Servers.
What do you think is this efficient approach .

  • Transport an Appraisal and Objective Setting Template

Note the following advice pertaining to transporting an appraisals and objective setting template (I have not found documentation about this anywhere else, so hopefully some of you find this useful):
    Scenario:
You have maintained your templates in PHAP_CATALOG_PA in the main config client, and you have transported all other configurations (basic settings, etc.) to your unit test/integration test environment.
However, although you have right-clicked the category groups and templates to be transported and included them in a transport request, you find that only some of your configuration (or perhaps none at all!) is arriving in the target client when the transport is performed.
You may initially be able to work around this by downloading/uploading your config, but once your templates contain more complex configuration (such as using dynamic element references, etc.) you will find that this is no longer a feasible approach.
    Cause & Resolution:
The problem is caused by outdated information in the workflow definition environment (transaction SWU3), and specifically the section labeled "Check Entries from HR Control Tables".
Run transaction SWU3, expand tree node "Maintain Definition Environment" (which should be marked with a red cross at this stage) and click on "Check Entries from HR Control Tables". The information presented in the right-hand pane indicates that:
If there are errors regarding the transport objects PDST or PDWS, the relevant entries are not maintained in table SOBJ. You can use the report RHSOBJCH to rectify this later.
Proceed as suggested and run report RHSOBJCH (through SE38 or SA38) in the config client (i.e. where the templates are to be transported from). This has no side-effects I am aware of other than updating the reference information required.
If you now run SWU3 again you should find that the "Check Entries from HR Control Tables" node is marked with a green tick.
Simply go back to the catalog, include your cat.groups & templates in a transport again, and Voila! Our work here is done.
    Happy transporting...
Side-note: You may ask (as I did) what transporting of appraisal templates has to do with workflow, but it just so happens that the PD objects and infotypes associated with appraisals (VA, VB, VC, etc.) are transported through the same mechanism as workflow templates (which are also PD objects). if you peek inside the transport you will note that everything to do with the template and category group configuration is bundled inside PDWS and PDST transport objects...

    Hi Abe,
what is the appraisal process you are talking about?  The new stuff in ep4 where you define the process and steps which create the roadmap at the top of the document?  if so SAP does not have a great straightforward solution, but they did provide us some options.
you can check out this thread and if you want I can send you the full document that is referred to in the post.

  • Need blogs for transport management at SOLMAN4.0SP11 and above

There are many blogs in this group but none of them is about transport management.
Please help provide some. Thanks a lot!
    Best!

    Hi,
    Good Question...
Usually if the systems are connect to each other, the objects move from one system to other when the transports are released in background, That to depends on whether they have to be imported into the target system immediately or every 1hr(time frame) is defined by the basis team as per the requirement.
But if the systems are not connected, then after you release the transport request, the basis team will export the log/data files from the source system corresponding to the transport and import back to the target system. This is manual process and is similar to the automated process listed above.
Basis team uses from transaction to export and import these files..and i am not aware of them. Please get in touch with your basis team for the same.
    Hope this helps

  • How to manage non-SAP objects types with SAP Netweaver ?

I would like to know how it is possible to integrate into the SAP software configuration managment tools (NWDI CTS, CTS+...) non-SAP objects like shell scripts or SQL requests ?
These shell scripts are, for example:
    - external host scheduler jobs
    - general scripts for start/stop application
    - parameters needed by application at the os level
My goal should to store into a DEV SAP system these objects, in order to take benefit of SE80 version management. So, it should be possible to create transport order in SE10 and to transport these non-SAP objects in test and production system.
Thank in advance for your answers.
    Daniel Ouin

the standard functionality for this up until 4.72 is to call RFCs/BAPIs through a RFC binding library for the third party software, e.g. the language of your choice is PHP then you use the PHP RFC library found [here|http://saprfc.sourceforge.net/], if you have to connect from a .NET environment you might try to get the SAP .NET connector.

PS: RTFM and/or using the search facilities here on SCN would help you a lot with your task.

  • Do we need to setup traditional ABAP Transport Management System on XI?

I was confused that do we need to setup ABAP transport Management System on XI, since the IR and ID object will use CMS or File to transport between DEV->QAS->PRD. If we still need, could you pls let me know why we need it?
one more question is: if we maintained some parameter in XI dev, say, we maintained Integration Server patameter to let system can moniter Syn message, if we want this paramter used in XI QAS, is that the only way to maintain it mannully in QAS, or we have other way to make it? thank you for your help

    Zhang,
You are absolutely correct. You transport all your ID and IR objects using CMS or File transports.
But lets suppose you have developed some zprograms or abap mapping in XI. This basically reside on the ABAP stack. So for this objects to transport we will follow the procedure what we do normally to transporting the R3 objects. So what ever you develop on the ABAP stack we need to transport to QA and to Prod using ABAP transport system.

  • Business Package for Transport Management System & Travel Mangement System

    Hi,
Is there any <b>Business package</b> available for <b>"Transport Management System" and "Travel Mangement System"</b>?
Please provide some link, if it is available.
    Thanks in advance.
    Manish

    Hi Manish,
travel management is part of the ESS business package.  As far as transport management, if you are talking about TMS capabilities for moving object in the landscape, go to https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/contentportfolio and search for "transport"  You will find a thirdparty package for this.
    Good luck.

  • Regarding transport management

    hi,
will you please tell me wht is transport management system?
    thanks & regards
    ramnaresh

    Hi Ramnaresh,
Transport Management system helps the SAP basis guys to transport or transfer the technical data in the form of reports or any confguration changes made to the Development system to the Quality and the Production server.
    For this,the T-codes used are
SE09 : Transporting or releasing the Workbench objects(ABAP development).
SE10 : Transporting or releasing the Customising objects(Configuration changes).
STMS : Importing the objects from the above mentioned T-codes.
Whatever changes or developpments that you do in the Development server can only be reflected in the Production server and the quality with the help of Transport System.
In case you have any further clarifications,do let me know.
    Regards,
    Puneet Jhari.

  • What is Security & Transport Management system?

    Hi,,,,
Can anyone help me out on
What is Security & Transport Management system?
    Thanks,
    Swamy
Edited by: Alvaro Tejada Galindo on Apr 4, 2008 6:02 PM

    Hi Swamy,
Transport Management System is the process of reflecting the changes done in the Development server into Production Server.
When we start the development work, we assign the work to a Transport Request Number.
Once the development is completed the object is moved to Quality Server for Business Functionality Testing.
If the object meets the all the test conditions then finally it is moved to Production Server for the end user.
Security can be explained more effectively by any Basis person.
    cheers!!!

  • Transport Management - Tools comparision

    Hi All,
We are looking for Advance features for SAP Change management. Particularly in the area of automated transport Sequencing and conflict management between transports.
Though CHARM supports sequencing, we need to have automated sequencing.
Object level comparison between transports, flagging of transports..
    Checked the following tools:
    CHARM u2013 SAP SOLUTION MANAGER
    REV-TRAC (http://www.xrsc.com/)
    TRANSPORT EXPRESS (http://www.basistechnologies.com/products--services/transport-express.aspx)
IWAVE TRANSPORT MANAGER FOR SAP (http://www.enigmatec.net/products_iWaveTransportManager.html)
Can Somebody who have worked on these tools provide comparison of these tools to CHARM
    Regards,
    Ramesh Ramagowni

    Hi Ramesh,
II have used some of these tools before or evaluated some of them at some point or other though not for 3 or 4 years. Which one you select depends on a mixture of your requirements and budget.
For me the biggest benefits of a transport tool are in project mode when you have a very high number of transports, as opposed to production support mode.
In project mode a tool can automate the actual transportation thereby removing the reliance on the Basis team members. You want to be able to build in an approval process and have email notifications. Then the whole thing can just run in the background. Another essential feature required is to be able to identify object dependency and sequencing errors.
In my view Rev-Trac is the Rolls Royce of the tools. It offers the functionality described above and much more but it VERY expensive. When I looked at it last they had a very inflexible and expensive licensing model so if you had a huge landscape it would cost a lot.
Transport Express is less sophisticated but does the job for a project and is much cheaper. It has a simple license model - you license the production instance and can have as many test systems as you like in front of it.
CHARM I didn't look at for a long time but when I did it had none of the features I wanted and was very basic.
I do not know IWAVE and I do know that Realtech also have a product called "Transport Manager".
    Regards
    Steve

  • OTM - supported methods for Cloning Transportation Management environments?

Does anyone know if there are currently any supported methods for cloning entire OTM environments?
OTM Admin Guide only mentions supported methods for Database-related objects, but nothing for Web or App tiers.
Oracle Support Note 549353.1 (over a year old) states:
You can not clone the OTM Software, you must run the full installer on your new instance.
You can, however, clone the database portion so that you can have the same data content. This is
documented in Note 1313815.1 Cloning Oracle Transportation Management Database Schemas.
Not sure the above still applies to current OTM release 6.3.1.
    Thanks,
    Paul S.

i'm very glad to read, from the article you referenced, that there's no performance hit.  but that's only 1 of 2½ issues.  i have some follow-up questions.  perhaps we should take this to a forum instead of the knowledge base?
-what about prior issue #2 (securely wiping the drive)?  is this easily and instantly doable?  we'll ignore #3 (relying on microsoft gets ½ a point).
-with the encryption keys stored on the controller, doesn't using third-party encryption software mean the keys themselves aren't encrypted by a user pw, making it that much easier for someone with physical access to the drive to extract them from the firmware?
-if the controller is doing the encryption, why bother with bitlocker?  is it so slightly-more-savvy-than-average joe can easily enable it, or so you don't have to write it into the firmware?  (i'm being serious, not snarky--i'm a software developer myself.)  personally, i'm dual-booting win7* and ubuntu 14, which means i need 2 separate encryption methods instead of just supplying my credentials at boot to decrypt the hd and then choosing which os to load.
-also, if i upgrade the windows os, ms requires the os volume to be decrypted first.  this would obviously not be the case if windows was unaware that it was encrypted.
*last, what about those poor silly saps who are running win7 (or earlier)?  i just read that win7 bitlocker doesn't support self-encrypting drives--it was an update as of win8.  we're just out of luck?  i realize you can't support everything, but win7 is still a ms-supported os, and it seems like a better service to (more of) your customers to enable full-disk encryption all the time.
    thank you!

  • Transport Management in SOlution Manager

    Hello All,
We are currently running a Conf. Room Pilot for our customer. As part of the CRP, the customer has created a new template project in Solman and have also a created a new sandbox as a copy of their production for the CRP where we have got full access.
The customer wants us to use SAP transport management functionality in Solman where all transports & changes made in the sandbox can be tracked and they can be moved to their production if required using solution manager.
Now customer doesnot want to configure ChaRM.
    Two possiblities I see are
    1. Create an IMG project in Sandbox system through Solution Manager and in the Sandbox systems' project activate CTS functionality. Give TR Create authorization to team members with restriction of assignment to CTS project only. (Dis-allow TR creation w/o CTS project assignment in Sandbox)
    2. Activate Change Request Management (ChaRM ) in the template project with only CTS functionality (No other functionality of ChaRM is useful here). At the moment I am not sure if this will be allowed.
please let me know, how do I restrict creation of TR without assigning to CTS?
    Regards,
    Shyam
