"Transport Monitor" in active processes eating up approx. 30% of CPU

Since updating to MacOS 10.4.9 I have noticed that my CPU has been busy even when it should be idle. When using the "activity monitor" I noticed that in "active processes" "transport monitor" was occupying up to 40% of the available CPU.
I understand "transport monitor" is part of "Palm Desktop 4.2.1" which I run on my computer.
I used the "analysis" function within "activity monitor", but I am unsure how to interpret this information.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
PowerBook G4 1.25 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I can confirm that after deleting "Palm Desktop" including the Pref file etc. the "Transport Monitor" process disappeared.
I then reinstalled Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D. The "Transport Monitor" reappeared and again took control of about 20-30% of CPU. The overall computer speed seems reduced again since re-installation.
Is this to be accepted? I suppose I could just stop the Transport Monitor process manually when ever I need a faster computer. But this does not seem right...
Any ideas?

  • How to monitor the Activation process of a request in DSO

    Hi all,
I have loaded the data ( 7 million) records in DSO as a new request. I have clicked on the activation button.
Can any one tell me where can we check the status of this activation process of this request?
When clicked on monitor or logs button it shows me all as status green, but not able to figure out where to check the status of activation process.(the data is still not activated )
    any help would be great.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regds,
    Maddy

    Hi,
There are a couple of places where you can see the activation progress.
    1) To start with SM37 job log > (give  BI_PROCESS_ODSACTIVAT  or BI_ODSA*)
and it should give you the details about the activation job. If its active make sure that the job log is getting updated at frequent intervals.
    2) For very huge number of records SM37 job log may not get update frequently. In that case you have a workaround.
Go to contents > Active Data table > No. of entries > This will keep on increasing at frequent intervals.
    3) SM66 > Get the job details (server name PID etc from SM37) and see in SM66 if the job is running or not. See if its accessing/updating some tables or is not doing anything at all.
    4) Go to Activate button in Target > Request tab. Inside you can see a job log button. It will also show some log regarding the last activation.
    Thanks,

  • Activity monitor showing iOS process CPU load?

Twice in the past two weeks my iPhone 4s (running latest 7.1.1) suddenly became very warm, and its battery went down rapidly even when on standby. If I plugged it in, it got even warmer and it charged very slowly.
In each case I was eventually able to recover, by stopping all apps, putting the phone in airplane mode, doing a couple of full restarts, and (this seemed to be important) turning the phone off completely until it cooled down completely. Because I did several things almost at once, I can't be sure which ones were effective.
This could be a hardware issue with the battery. The fact that turning the phone off completely seemed to be an essential part of the cure suggests that. It could also be a hardware issue related to network communication, cured by Airplane Mode.
It could also be related to beta software that I was running, though that software was not active either time. The testing profile was installed though, and could have been involved. After the second incident I removed the profile as a precaution (fortunately the GA version of the software had just come out).
To help track down the cause, if it happens again, I would like to find an iOS equivalent of Activity Monitor on my Mac. I've installed several free system status apps and I have read the description of several paid ones. The ones I have tried give me a list of running processes with their priorities, and total CPU load, but so far I have not found one that shows which processes are the CPU hogs. Maybe one of the paid ones does that, but their descriptions don't claim that feature. It t doesn't make sense to spend money without getting the feature I need. If it is a software issue, looking at total CPU load while starting and stopping apps may not be a good diagnostic since the culprit could be a background or system process.
    Any suggestions?

And a process that is capable of running multiple threads of execution, can concurrently use more than 1 CPU, and thus consume greater than 100% of 1 CPU.

  • Killing Active Processes

Lately I've been watching the Activity Monitor, especially when running Adobe After Effects.
I've noticed that I have a lot of processes running that I have absolutely no need for, like "iTunes helper," "TabletDriver," "MOTUFirewireCons" and so on. When rendering with AE, these processes eat up enormous amounts of Virtual Memory... about 500MB per process, needing a total for all these processes at around 4 or 5 gigabytes!
I can start a render, but then have it interrupted, because the system alerts me that I don't have enough drive space available. I look at the available space on a Finder Window, and it says something like 130Mb available. But, if I interrupt my AE render, it tells me I have 14 Gb available.
So... is there a way to automatically kill some of these un-needed processes without hurting anything, or having to go in and manually force quit them everytime I boot up?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Well, I mentioned a few in my post that I know aren't being used for AE. Disk Warrior installs an app that runs all the time, as does my MOTU audio interface driver, my Wacom tablet, and so on. I killed some of them manually with no apparent ill effects, and the Activity Monitor will warn you that killing some processes will log you out, so I avoid killing those.
I thought after I sent my post that this is something I might be able to do with scripting, but I'm not very experienced with scripting.
I have a 100G internal drive, and with all my apps, and source footage for After Effects, it's difficult to keep 15G free at all times. There's no way I could use it effectively with 50% free... my OS, apps and stock files take up that much.
    Thank you for your reply.

  • Transport - what are the process behind it?.... [CLOSED]

    Hi all,
Do you know any links how a transport process works.
I know is SE10. But i want to know how the process runs behind in each transport we do? For example, activation, i know there are 7 steps behind it.
What about transport? What is process behind it that we abapers do not see but basis consultants know?
I would very much want to know how the transport process run behind the system.
    Thanks

    Hi,
a request order contain a key (two field) R3TR + ..  (for workbench). When you release the request, SAP will create a file that contain the object point by the key.
The source code of the abap will be encrypted, so you can't see inside the file.
When you import the file (the request released), SAP will use the key to set the new value.
That means, when you modify a source code, SAP does not just transport the modification but ALL the source code.
When you play with the customizing, you can see inside the code, the table of the customizing (for ex T001W for the plant) and the key of the table inside the request (double click on the task).
    (not really clear, sorry )

  • Error during activation process

    hi all,
i have"error occured during activation process" DSO...but the request is available for reporting.what do i do?
    thanks

    Hello Dear
In the setting of infopackage you have following options
    a. No update, no reporting (default)
If errors occur, the system terminates the update of the entire data package. The request is not released for reporting. However, the system continues to check the records.
b.Update valid records, no reporting (request red)
This option allows you to update valid data. This data is only released for reporting after the administrator checks the incorrect records that have not been updated and manually releases the request (using a QM action, that is, by setting the Overall status on the Status tab page in the monitor).
    c.Update valid records, reporting possible
Valid records can be reported immediately. Automatic follow-up actions, such as adjusting the aggregates, are also carried out.
Check if you have selected the third option
    Thanks

  • Proactive monitoring of failed processes

    Hi there,
We have a requirement to generate an alert in an external system when a process fails. I understand how to work with failures at an activity level using result handlers and I can execute a custom failure alert process in each activity, however, I would like to trigger this custom process at the process level, not the activity level as it is not feasible to configure the result handler for every single activity of every process. Is this sort of technique possible? Within CPO is there there some way of monitoring for failed processes?
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
    Dave

There is a "Process Failed" trigger that you can use to monitor for failed process instances.

  • Transport Monitor could not complete your request (16)

Transport Monitor could not complete your request (16) is the message I keep getting lately when I try to hotsync my palm IIIc with my 24inch imac running OSX 10.4.11. I'm also using Keyspan serial adaptor for the palm to a USB port. I've been able to hotsync on this machine before the only thing different was that I unplugged the cable once from the USB port to use a flash drive. Now everytime I try to enable hotsync via the hotsync software setup panel I get the above message.
Any ideas about what to do? Thanks in advance.
    Post relates to: Palm IIIc

I have recently been receiving a "Transport Monitor could not complete your request" error, though with the tag (-4960) at the end.  This error appears upon computer startup, ever since I had to reinstall Mac OX 10.5.2 on my computer.  Everything worked fine with the same computer until that reinstallation.  Now, nothing happens on my computer when I try to USB-synch my Treo 680, though it works fine on other computers.
I have tried repairing disk permissions.  I have also tried deleting all the files for Palm Desktop and reinstalling it.  When I did so, I received the same error message during the installation process!
    What can I do?
    Thanks
EDIT: Perhaps relatedly, something seems to be malfunctioning in the HotSync Manager application.  When I open it, the default window with "HotSync Software Setup" does not open.  I can select other menu options (e.g. "Install Handheld Files" ), but if I select "Setup" from the HotSync menu, nothing happens.

  • Hidden process eats half my CPU (after 10.4.7 install)

I'm running a MBP with the latest firmware previously installed. After updating to 10.4.7, about half of my CPU is consumed, but I can see what's doing it. Neither Activity Monitor nor the shell command "top" shows the culprit, even when viewing all processes.
The problem does disappear when I boot up into safe mode and continues to stay away after I've manually started all of my startup items. I have a strange suspicion that Spotlight is responsible, but, again, it's not showing any CPU-hogging processes.
I've had some other minor annoyances with the update like various preferences appear to have been forgotten and especially Spotlight lost its settings/index, but otherwise, the update functions well, even if I've effectively lost one of my CPUs.
If someone has any advice on tracking this down and killing it, I'd much appreciate it. My MacBookPro was already hot too the touch, now with the CPU running at a minimum of 100/200%, it's down-right scorching! (not to mention the loss of CPU available for MY tasks). I've had to put a USB-powered fan on it just to use it.
    MacBookPro 15.4"   Mac OS X (10.4)   10.4.6 -> 10.4.7 update

OK. I've tried a more methodical approach to this. I've noticed that my login seems to load just fine, then after some period of time, the CPU goes up and stays up. Usually from 1-5 minutes after login. I also noticed that once this high-cpu-usage occurs, any new process IDs are several thousand higher than the previous process I've run. Clearly this indicates that something is trying to be run, probably failing, then something is trying to run it again.
Rebooting again, I've monitored this whole process by watching top run with a short refresh interval. Sure enough, after a minute or two of logging-in, the action started, and a high frequency of launches of "nmbd" were spotted in top.
Did a "> man nmbd" and found that this is part of the samba package. Next step was to go to the Sharing preference panel, then stop the Windows Sharing. Processor immediately dropped to normal usage. Whew!
Unfortunately, I can't start window sharing again without triggering the heat and loss of cycles, so this isn't quite solved... only narrowed down.
SURELY someone else that has a MBP that has upgraded to 10.4.7 is also running Windows Sharing... why am I the only one with this problem? Can anyone confirm that Windows Sharing works for them in 10.4.7 and a MBP?
Also, how do I fix the problem? Anyone?

Have ya considered upgrading to 3.03? I seem to recall 3.0.3 solved that problem for me.

  • Transport Monitor issue

When my Mac restarts, I get the message "Transport Monitor could not complete your request (-4960)"
    What's up?
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Verizon)

1 In the finder, search for files called: com.palm.HS
2 Delete them. Restart then try a HotSync®.
However if the steps didn’t resolve anything, click on the apple icon at the upper left corner and follow the steps below.
    1 Click SYSTEM PREF.
    2 Click on ACCOUNTS.
    3 Then click STARTUP ITEMS.
    Or
    1 Click SYSTEM PREF.
    2 Click LOGINS ITEMS.
    Then
    1 Check in Preference Applications,
    2 Click on Login items.
3 Make sure that Palm Desktop Background and Transport Monitor are listed only once. Otherwise, trash the duplicates.
    4 Restart the Mac.
    And then,
    1 Check on the folder:
    Hard drive > applications > utilities >
    2 Run disk utilities.
    3 Choose the hard drive.
    4 Click on disk permissions.
5 Click on verify disk permissions. This would take sometime to complete.
6 After the process is done, restart the Mac again.

  • Number of active processes changing periodically

In my MacBook Air I'm noticing a strange thing. Using Activity Monitor I see that the number of active processes changes periodically. Initially I see 7-8 active processes and immediately after 2 seconds the number of active processes grows to 20 or even more and after a while it changes again to few processes. Is this normal?

It depends ob the processes, obviously, but it's probably normal.  The system will naturally launch an assortment of background processes to handle different tasks as they arise.

  • Errror when activating process chain

    Hi All,

Error is *'Node Characteristic 0classnum is not entered as hierarchy characteristic for 0material*

    Hi
This is not advisable to activate a process chain in quality directly. You should do it in development and then transport it across.
This error is realated to hierarchy. Do you have a hierarchy load attached to this chain?
Check the hierarcy first. Then activate the chain.
    Cheers

  • Transport Monitor is lost

Upon start up and while attempting to launch several apps I get this message.
The application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "8<Transport Monitor><Transport Monitor><HotSyncLib.PPC>"

I just got this from the Palm support people and it worked...so give it a shot.
We received your feedback from our Customer Satisfaction Survey. In relation to this, may we know if you have already performed the last email we sent you? If so and yet the problem persists, we suggest that you perform the un-installation and re-installation of the Palm Desktop software. Prior to that, lets backup your files on the Mac. Please go through the steps below.
Using finder (apple + F) or Sherlock, search for your username folder (folder that contains backup of your files from the handheld) on the hard drive. Under normal installation it would be located on the following folder:
    Hard drive > users > Mac user login >documents > palm > users >
Create a duplicate of this folder on the Mac desktop. Do this by clicking once on the folder and pressing the keys apple + D. A new folder will appear with the name duplicate or copy. Drag this folder to the Mac desktop or have it backed up on an external hard drive or CD. This will serve as your backup folder for future references.
Before we proceed, please quit all applications on the Macintosh and unplug the USB cradle from the computer.
Run the installation CD that came with your handheld or run the software that you downloaded and choose the option uninstall instead of the default, quick install.
Using the finder (hold the keys apple + F on the keyboard) type the word, palm; find all Palm related files and folders on your hard drive and delete them, or drag them, to the trash, except for the backup on your Mac desktop that we saved in step 1. Some of the files or folders wont be deleted, thats ok. Delete whatever can be deleted.
Empty the trash then reboot your Mac.
If you are not using a USB adapter, proceed to step 6. If possible, at this point, you may need to install an updated adapter driver for the Mac OSX, or you may refer to this link. http://www.keyspan.com/support/macosx/usa/
Install or update the driver on your Mac.
Download Palm Desktop software from the link below
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421.html
and proceed with the rest of the installation prompts. Choose quick install this time.
Plug the USB cradle directly to the Mac and not through any other USB port. Perform the initial HotSync with the handheld by pressing the HotSync button. The connection between handheld and palm desktop should work by then. Then after your initial HotSync, I need you to open the palm desktop. On the file menu, find the command merge.
Direct the window that pops up and find the username folder youve saved earlier on the Mac desktop. Inside that folder you should find the file, user data.
Select this file and click on merge. All your old data should appear then on the Palm Desktop. We need to transfer these data back to the handheld.
Then click HotSync on the menu. Under that you should see conduit settings. Please click that.
Find the conduit address and click on the button conduit settings.
Choose the option Mac overwrites handheld and click on done and do this for the other conduits except for install, and backup. After alls been changed, exit the conduit settings window.
Try another HotSync. This should solve the issue. Should you feel the need to clarify things please feel free to send us an email.
If you may have problems with the installation, please do the steps below.
    Delete files on the directory:
OSX hard drive > library > application support > Palm Hotsync.
    Check on the folder:
    Hard drive > applications > utilities >
Run disk utilities. Choose the hard drive. And click on disk permissions. Click on verify disk permissions. This would take sometime to complete. After the process is done, restart the Mac again.
You may also need to log in as the root user for Mac so you may install the software. Please read on the following link from Mac support. You can follow the instructions given then try reinstalling the software.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=152089
Then you can manually trash all files after this.
Using the Sherlock or Apple finder (hold the keys apple + F on the Mac) find all Palm related files on your hard drive and delete them or drag them to the trash, except for the backup on your Mac desktop that we saved. Some of the files wont be deleted, thats ok. Delete whatever can be deleted.
Empty the trash then reboot your Mac.
Try reinstalling the downloaded palm desktop software at this point.
