Transport of package links in BPC NW 10.0

Hello Experts,
I have observed something strange that not all package links seem to be transporting to target system.
Though i have collected 6 package links through RSA1 granular transport methodology ... i see only 2 have been imported into Q.
I could see the elements in the transport request, howver when imported only two package links were imported and others were missing.
did any one notice such behavior? or am i missing something?

Can we setup dependancies in DM package links in BPC 7.5

When you have multiple tasks in DM package links, is one executed after the other irrespective of the success of other ?.
Can we build something in DM package links which resembles a regular BW process chain, on success do this on failure do that....

Hi,
we can create two different packages in Data Manager by using the same process chain, but different script logics. But if any changes are performed in one of them, changes will be updated in the other one automatically. So, the user cannot really create two different packages.Hope this helps.

Package Links and APPSET transports

We are on BPC NW7.5 SP08 - I have a quick question -
If I create a local package link in my Prod environment (unique name to Prod only) in APPSET "A", would that be deleted by a transport of APPSET "A" from our Dev environment? I know that reports and input schedules are not, but how about package links?
I ask this because package links for loading master data hierarchies from BW InfoObjects do not transport well beacuse the the generated upper node of the hierachy will be unique in each environment.

I dont think it would get deleted. As you have a uique name for the package link in your prod, please go ahead and create your trnsport, it would not be deleted.
A PLINK would get overwritten if you have the plink with the same name.

Triggering BPC Package Link from BW backend

Has anyone figured out a way to trigger a Package Link from the BW backend? We would like to run our standard BW process chain(s) to load Master Data and Hierarchies and THEN once that is successful, trigger the BPC package link to load the data into BPC... We'd like to do the same for transactional data too.
We were given function module UJD_RUN_PACKAGE_LINK but could not get it to actually do anything.
No hits on Google either.... well after this message there will be one hit

Bingo!!
UJD_TEST_PACKAGE_LINK calls function UJD_RUN_PACKAGE_LINK which we were trying to do. We just must have messed up some parameters.
Anyway, UJD_TEST_PACKAGE_LINK works brilliantly!
For those reading this in the future....
1. Find your LINK_ID in table UJD_LINK. The CONTENT field gives you clues as to which one.
2. Execute UJD_TEST_PACKAGE_LINK.
3. Find your LINK_ID in the drop down and then hit enter. It will fill in your Appset Id and Appl Id.
4. Make sure you enter a user id to run it under (<domain>\<bpc userid>)
5. For our purposes we don't have any manual prompts so left it blank.
6. Save as a variant or simply just run.

Include art board images in packaged Links folder

Is there a way to include the images placed on the art board in the packaged Links folder? Meaning include all the images when packaging not just the ones in the document.
Here's my weird workflow as well. Maybe someone could suggest a change that would improve the process.
1- designers lay out editorial features not knowing if the images will land on color or B/W pages (dont ask — I wish I could change this).
2- color images are placed in the layout but b/w versions are placed on the art board — directly left or right of the page containing the color version.
3- features can sit for days until ready for pagination.
4- production artists paginate the pages after ad-logs are complete.
5- images in editorial content are swapped, when needed, to b/w — placing the original color images onto the art board.
6- features are packaged for delivery to a web production team which copies and pastes the text and images into web templates.
6a- If color images are swapped for b/w during print pagination and the article packaged they will not be available for the web production department.
I have joined a stubborn team that I finally convinced to move from Quark 4... but they can not let go of this art board process. Any suggestions, comments or feedback is greatly appreciated.

I believe tha answer to that is no, but Packaging DOES pick up anything that touches the bleed area. This mans defining a large bleed gives you a lot of space on the pastebaord that will potentially be included in the package, but it also means that using the bleed guides and document bleed settings in the print and export dialogs is no longer valid, a small inconvenience since you can easily add a new set of ruler guides for the bleed and define bleed dimensions in the dialogs.
Or get REALLY sneaky and define the bleed as huge, then define the slug as the size you would use for the bleed. When you print or export, don't set a bleed, but include the slug area. Transport of Security objects in BPC 7.5NW

As a part of NW BPC transports, changed the entries in table UJT_TRANS_CHG. For the 1st transport (from DEV to QA)wanted to transport ALL objects including Security and Teams. So, selected 'Development' for ALL objects under this table.
After the transport collection via tcode UJBPCTR and importing into QA, found that 'Users', 'Teams' and 'Task Profiles' did NOT transport. 'Member Access Profiles' did transport to QA.
I expected 'Users', 'Teams' and 'Task Profiles' also to be transported. We are on SAP BPC 7.5NW, SP4.
Am I missing something here ?

we had the same problem and didn't know if Security objects could be transported, but we found the BPC User Mass Management Tool.

This could help you to export the security objects in DEV and import the objects in PRD.
The transports you need for the ZUJE_MASS_USER_MGMT Programm you found on page 46 in the document mentioned above.

Looking for a way to minimize packaged links sizes to that of resized dimensions and dpi?
Is this a script? How would I go about finding something like this? What is the best way to
not duplicate images. Storage is beginning to become a problem!

File has no errors and won't package links

I have a 36 page catalog with no errors, no missing links, no links with problems according to the report. However indesign fails to package links. I need to send this out today any idea?

Usually caused by "invalid" characters in a file or folder name, or a path to the link that is extremely long.

What are you trying to delete??
In most cases you will have only creation or change authorization for the objects like DTP or infopackage but not for delete and thats why it will be giving you an error.
I think instead of deleting it...let it be there and create a new one.
Regarding package...everty object should go inside a package and its not mandatory to transport the package first before the objects...
If you transport the object...packages will move automatically....

How to transport a package(dev class) to another system?

dear gurus,
is it possible to transport a package (development class) from one system to anther system mannully? there is no transport path between the two systems.

The "correct" way would be to create a transport request of type Relocation of Complete Package (SE10):

     Select relocation of a complete package
Definition
     Relocations of complete packages are transports with which you
     simultaneously
     o   move the original location of all objects in a package to the target
         system and
     o   simultaneously assign the package to another transport layer.
Use
     Changing the transport layer means that you can edit and transport the
     objects consistently in their new original location without delay.
However, I assume that this is not possible in your system landscape. In this case you can download the transport files using transaction CG3Y (if available => download as BIN not ASC) yourself. A transport request E01K900100 consists of two files (data and log file), e.g.:
/usr/sap/trans/data/R900100.E01
/usr/sap/trans/cofiles/K900100.E01
Please note that the transport directory is likely to be different on your SAP system (check for directory DIR_TRANS in AL11 or ask your basis colleagues).
Now on your target system you either upload the files into the corresponding transport directories using CG3Z (if available) or ask your basis people to put the files into the directories. Either your basis is importing the request or you can use transaction STMS (Import queue <target system>, menu Extras -> Other Requests -> Add).
Add the request to the import queue and import it.
Finally you need to change the original system of the transported object and the transport layer of the package:
1) SE03 -> Change Object Directory Entries of Objects in Request
2) SE80 -> Package in Change Modus: maintain transport layer

Cannot delete Package Link due to being "used in schedule"

Hello all,
I am trying to delete a Package Link in EPM's Data Manager and am getting the message that:
"Package link {technical name of package link} is used in schedule"
Is there a way to find what schedule this Package Link thinks it is a part of? We are not running this Link in a schedule to our knowledge.
We are running EPM 10.0 SP14 Patch 2 .NET 4

You can disable the schedule link from EPM Add-in menu Data Manager->View status->View schedule status-> Then you can right click on the schedule and select delete schedule.

Error in package link

Hi, I have done some package link in some applications.
I want to implement another one in another application. When I try to insert the first step of the package link I retrieve this message:
"Run time error 35602
Key is not unique in collection"
Any ideas?

How to transport the package back

How do I transport my package back after I have already transported it to the higher level. I mean to ask that if I hv to do some modification to my package den how do I get it back from the testing department. and wt procedures I have to follow in order to get it back.

What do you mean by getting back the package to DEV
Is it request or packagae
if you define a packagae in DEV under some request, though you transport that packagae will be there in DEV
I think it is the Request Once you release and transport the request you can't get back the contenets of it back
You have to create a new request with objects and to transport again.
