Hello all,
Is it possible to do RMAN Transport Tablespace from 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.3 ??
TIA,
J JAre the two database on same platform?
Yes, it's possible to move from 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.3
You should check Oracle document,
You cannot export transportable tablespaces and then import them into a database at a lower release level. The target database must be at the same or higher release level as the source database.

Restore the dropped tablespace using RMAN?
Hello,
I have done a oracle tablespace re-org for PSAPPOOLD,PSAPPOOLI. Now I want to restore only the OLD PSAPPOOLD,PSAPPOOLI tablespace using TAPE backup via RMAN.
The probelm is I have dropped the old tablespace during re-org which is a part of the re-org. Is it possible to restore the dropped tablespace using RMAN?
My Oracle version is 9.2.05
if anyone has done this before, please share your valuable ideas.
I wrote the below script for the restore.
run {
allocate channel ch1 type sbt_tape;
startup nomount
restore controlfile; -
>(I guess,if I restore old control file, I might get old structure which help the restore of TB)
alter database mount ;
restore tablespace PSAPPOOLD,PSAPPOOLI;
recover tablespace PSAPPOOLD,PSAPPOOLI;;
release channel ch1;
Thanks,
Arjun

Hello Arjun,
why would you want to do this?
What is is you want to achieve by this action?
BTW: it's not possible to do that.
Check [Performing RMAN Tablespace Point-in-Time Recovery|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96566/rcmtspit.htm].
You want a "Tablespace point in time recovery" (TSPITR) for a dropped tablespace and that is just not possible with RMAN.
So, the easiest way for you to get this tablespace back would be to restore and recover the database to a different host.
Ah, while we're at it: using RMAN outside the BRTOOLS is not supported by SAP - so you better be a wiz with it because there won't be much help in case anything does not work.

Hii all
I configured control file autobackup on and take a backup whole database with "backup database;" command and
RMAN> transport tablespace users tablespace destination 'c:\Transport' auxiliary destination 'c:\Auxi';
I am receiving ;
RMAN-03015: error occurred in stored script Memory Script
RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore
RMAN-06024: no backup or copy of the control file found to restore
In begining lines of rman command I saw that "control_files=c:\Auxi/cntrl_tspitr_ST1_dFcB.f" looks like using unix path format in windows? Have you any idea ?

Duplicate of Database - Restore of Specific Tablespaces using RMAN
Hi, is it possible to perform a duplicate of a large database to a point in time (from tape) but only restore specific tablespaces, this database uses partitioned tables for a week of data, each set of partitions have their own tablespace.
Thanks.Use can use the “SKIP TABLESPACE” option of RMAN DUPLICATE to bring only the tablespaces you want.

Restore a tablespace using RMAN
Hi all,
Please help me to solve the below problem,
This is a test case.
I have taken one L0 backup and one L1 backup.
Then I have created a table "TEST_TABLE" along with some values in "USERS" tablespace.
Again I took another L1 backup.
Now accidentally (for testing) I have dropped the table "TEST_TABLE".
Can I get the table back.
I have tried the following::
1. Took the tablespace USERS offline
2. Removed the datafiles manually.
3. Restored the tablespace
4. Recovered the tablespace
5. Made the tablespace USERS online.
Now when I queried for the table "TEST_TABLE", I couldn't get the table back.
Is there any way to get back my table.
Regards,
BikramHi zekeriya,
Thanks. I am using 10g.
Ofcourse we can use flashback but If possible I just want to recover the "USERS" tablespace users upto a specific time from the incremental backup that I have before the drop command.
I couldn't find the specific command to do so.
Please help.
Thanks,

When I search for the RMAN-03009 in OTN,Metalink,google , I get some unrelated hits with different message and not the "Failure of Conversion..." message.. for this message code.
Please advice if you have had the same issue and resolved the same.

Importing tablespace using impdp
Hi,
I am trying to transport tablespace using expdp/impdp like:
source side: expdp dumpfile=tbs1.dmp logfile=tbs1.log directory=datapump transport_tablespaces=tbs1
transformed to target side
target side: impdp dumpfile=tbs1.dmp directory=datapump transport_datafiles='/u01/app/oracle/sales/tbs1.dbf'
it is giving:
ORA-39123: Data Pump transportable tablespace job aborted
ORA-29345: cannot plug a tablespace into a database using an incompatible character set
when i searched in google some suggestions are given like do transport using rman.
But when we have the option in impdp why i need to go to rman tool.
i want to use impdp only. but i ma unable to use it properly while importing.
can you please alter me.
thank you!Hello,
ORA-29345: cannot plug a tablespace into a database using an incompatible character setIt cannot work due to the error ORA-29345 above:
ORA-29345: cannot plug a tablespace into a database using an incompatible character set
Cause: Oracle does not support plugging a tablespace into a database using an
incompatible character set.
Action: Use import/export or unload/load to move data instead.
i want to use impdp only. but i ma unable to use it properly while importing.So, as suggested, move the data by import/export. But, be careful, as you have different character set you may have conversions.
Hope this help.

Dbid in transportable tablespaces
Is it necessary to have same DBID for rman transportable tablesapace or for normal exp/imp transportable tablespace ?
Pascal Nouma wrote:
Hi Kamran
Someone in database general forum posted that, dbid is essential. Is he wrong?
transport tablespace from raw to cooked
I forget to mark question as resolved sorry about thatI don't like to say someone's answer that it's "right" or "wrong". But according to Oracle documentation, there's no any need for two databases to have same dbid to transport tablespace between them. Generally, database's have different unique DBID which make them different from others. So if you have two databases which runs on Linux and Windows OS and you want to transport a tablespace between them, you don't need to changed dbid of one of them.
Moreover, you can refer to documentation: [Limitations on Transportable Tablespace Use|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/tspaces013.htm#i1007233] -

Can I use RMAN transportable database cross platform from 10g to 11g?
Hi,
I'm working on the migration plan, the source db server is solaris with 10g database while the destination server is AIX with 11g database.
Can I use RMAN transportable database for this purpose?
Coz I have read the restrictions on Cross-Platform Transportable Database, but it does not mention whether it can work for different version of database.
please help.Hi,
Do you have metalink account? If yes please check : Cross-Platform Migration on Destination Host Using Rman Convert Database [ID 414878.1]*

Restore and recover tablespace(s) in another db using RMAN
Hi,
I'm using Oracle Standard edition 11gR2, actually that's why I'm posting this thread because I can't use TRANSPORT TABLESPACE feature.
I need to restore and recover two tablespaces, backed up in source database in another database. The destination db has been duplicated from the source db a couple of days ago so the structure is identical.
I cannot use Data Pump on this specific tablespace, because it causes some strange behavior in our application. So I took a backup from tablespaces and now I'm looking for a solution to restore and recover it in another db.
Is there any command to restore a tablespace from a specific file? I googled a lot and no luck so far..
Any ideas?
P.S: I use controlfile instead of recovery catalog.
Edited by: aLuViAn on Dec 2, 2012 11:55 PMI have a backup schedule to take daily full backups (twice) and hourly incremental backup. So yes, I have backup!
P.S: I also tried the following:
restore tablespace REG_DATA from 'temp_ERIS0_hjnru4ss_1_1.rman';
Starting restore at 03-DEC-12
using channel ORA_DISK_1

Rman transportable tablespace ORA-39087: directory name is invalid
Hello all,
We are trying to restore a backup of a tablepace using RMAN's TRANSPORTABLE TABLESPACE command. I created the director in oracle (and it exists on the server), granted privs yet it fails with ORA-39087: directory name is invalid. It seems to fail at the end. Here's my steps, does anyone know how to fix? Thanks in advance for your time!
Dave
CREATE DIRECTORY ARCH_DIR as '/opt/oracle/arch';
GRANT IMP_FULL_DB, EXP_FULL_DB TO SYS, RMAN, SYSTEM;
GRANT READ, WRITE ON DIRECTORY ARCH_DIR TO SYS, RMAN, SYSTEM;
export ORACLE_SID=ADMIN_P1
rman target / catalog rman/rmanpassword@mydb
TRANSPORT TABLESPACE REPORTER
TABLESPACE DESTINATION '/opt/oracle/arch'
AUXILIARY DESTINATION '/opt/oracle/arch'
UNTIL SCN 2144439724
DATAPUMP DIRECTORY ARCH_DIR
DUMP FILE 'reporter.dmp'
IMPORT SCRIPT 'reporter.imp'
EXPORT LOG 'reporter.log';Creating a directory object inside the database does not create anything in the operating system. My guess is that the physical directory, with appropriate permissions, does not exist.

Oracle 9i TEMP tablespace backup problem using RMAN!
Oracle8/8i whole backup is ok for our backup software(using RMAN without RC database), but for Oracle 9i, I get following error messages when backing up temp tablespace.
1. RMAN-20202: tablespace not found in the recovery catalog
2. RMAN-06019: could not translate tablespace name "TEMP"
I check some views of Oracle9i, and know some changes happen for temp tablespace in 9i, but how to deal with this problem. Any idea, please!In 9i RMAN does not restore temporary datafiles. Instead, you should create them after your restore. I believe that Oracle is going to make a change to this in the next release of 9i and have RMAN create the temporary files. You can view the temporary datafiles @ v$tempfile.
I believe RMAN doesn't restore temporary files because they are locally managed and not in the control files. RMAN reads the controlfile of the target database to obtain info about backups, datafiles, etc.
Hope this helps.
