Transportation chain / multimode transport
Dear All,
1) I got lots of documents for Transportation chain / multimode transport but not able to configure it. Could you please share me the steps involves and brief about configuring Multimode transport such as how many shipment document types / shipment cost document types needs to define etc.
2) In Shipment cost and Item category definition we assign the cost type such as Shipment header, shipment leg etc. Why do we assign this? What will be effect if I maitain each and every option
3) In the configuration Define Shipment cost relevancy to shipment type, we can select the check box Header, Leg, Loading point etc. why we use this setting? What will be the effects
Please let me know on above points
Thanks & Regards
Rahul Mirashi
1) One Shipment Document Type and One Shipment Cost type is enough
2) In IMG path Define Transportation Connection Points, you have to define whether a shipment is related to Load Transfer, Border crossing etc., This Transportation Connection Point should be assigned in the next IMG Define Routes and Stages. Based on this, when you create a shipment document via VT01N, multiple line items would flow under the tab "Stages". Ideally, this would be applicable in case of exports shipment where you would have stages like Plant to Port, Port to importing country's port, customer destination and for each of these, you have to key in different vendor codes.
3) Based on the tick only, when you create shipment cost, the respective amount will be calculated. For example, if you not checked any of the boxes here and while you create shipment cost in VI01, once you tick the box Transfer, system will throw an error.
On your query,
What will be effect if I maitain each and every option
I request you to make a test on your own and update your findings.
thanks

Do we need to create individual shipment document for Transportation Chain
Do we need to create individual shipment document in Transportation Chain if the forwarding agent is same for all shipment?
For Example :
first it takes truck,
then ship,
then again truck to reach Customer.
in all above case forwading agent is same eg: DHL ServiceHi Doak,
Yes you need to create individual shipment document in Transportation chain.
For Example : when the trucks go from their respective shipping points to the harbor, the freight documents should not also contain main leg and subsequent leg information. When you create texts, you would not know if they are supposed to be valid for the preliminary, main or subsequent legs.
In order to avoid such limitations, we would recommend that you denote a transportation chain using multiple shipment documents. You can create these shipment documents almost automatically by using collective processing.
If you want depict a transportation chain within a shipment document, you must also accept the limited functions available to you.
The reason: Almost all shipment document functions refer to the document as a whole:
1.Outputs can only be printed for the entire document, not for individual legs
2.Handling units can only be created for the entire document, not for individual legs
3. The same is valid for texts, deadlines in general, etc.
Hope this provides you some clarity. Reward points if helpful.

Multimode transport for procurement
Hi friends. I am a MM consultant. I need your opinion on the folowing issue.
The client requirement is as follows.
1. They procure coals and ore from mines and ports. For this the Transport of raw material is a significant process in their business. The transport is arranged by the client (and not by their vendor).
2. Often multimode transport is used..like sea, then rail, then road.
3. Separate full fledged PO need to be given to the transporters.
4. Service tax and other relevant taxes are applicable on the transport activities.
5. All these transport cost need to be inventorised (to load on the material procured).
6. A number of other requirements exist due to which I am not willing to use Delivery condition (like FRB1) in main PO and use transporter number for this condition to map this scenario.
I am thinking of using the transportation module to map the scenario. That means
PO -> Inbound delivery -> Shipping -> GR w.r.t. the inbound delivery
My question is
1. Will the cost of transportation be loaded on the material if I use the above cycle?
2. Can I use the above cycle if WM (or lean WM) is not implemented?
Thanks in advance. You can implement transportation module without WM.
1)Maintain routes in the configuration.
2)Create a delivery document and aginst a delivery document create a shipment document.
3)Create a service PO with value limit on the frieght vendor.Mention all the suitable conditions on it.maintain delivery date in month in the service PO.this way u can use 1 service PO for entire month.
4) Create a shipment cost document against shipment document .
5) here you can specify transportation cost in the condition tab.
6)Check indicator "transfer" to transfer the cost
7) Once the cost is transferred a service entry sheet will be created automatically.
8)Do invoice by MIRO against service PO to pay to the transporter -

Configuration steps for executing Shipment type - "Transportation Chain"
Hi Gurus,
I have done the setup for Individual shipment for Truck type. Now the requirement is i need to carry out the configurations to map the transportation using Tuck , Ship and rail . The sequence is as below the customer belongs to US and the shipping point is 1000 (DE) so i need to ship the goods till the German port through " Truck". There after it will go through "Ship" to US. Now again in US From port to nearest Railway station it is transported through "Rail" and then from railway station it is delivered to customer through the "Truck" . Now what are the additional setup i need to do for achieving Transportation Chain of the above type?
Suitable reply with the details will be rewarded.Dear Pavankumar,

Transportation Chain Shipment Planning
Hello Experts.
I am currently working on our SAP implementation (Wave 2) project team representing the logistics department. We are currently processing collective shipments successfully. I am trying to determine how to incorporate pool shipment planning for a shipping point that will be added in wave 2. I have reviewed the SAP help documentation for transportation chain shipment planning and have not found a solution. Please review my shipment scenario and advise how to correctly plan the shipments to allow for 1 manifest tender and cost document from the shipping point with 1st service agent with truckload mode and separate individual tenders and cost documents with alternate service agent(s) and LTL mode.
Shipping Point (20 deliveries), truckload, Service Agent A (cost document & 1 manifest tender) ---> Chicago, IL -
>
Chicago -
> 1 delivery, LTL mode Service Agent B -> Champaign, IL (1 cost document, 1 tender)
Chicago -
> 2 deliveries, LTL mode Service Agent B -> Matoon, IL (1 cost document, 2 tenders)
Chicago -
> 5 deliveries, LTL mode Service Agent C -> Jacksonville, IL (3 cost documents, 3 tenders)
Chicago -
> 4 deliveries, LTL mode Service Agent C -> Decatur, IL (2 cost documents, 2 tenders)
Chicago -
>5 deliveries, LTL mode Service Agent C -> Quincy, IL (5 cost documents, 5 tenders)
Chicago -
> 3 deliveries, LTL mode Service Agent C -> Summit Argo, IL (3 cost documents, 3 tenders)
I am also interested in how collective processing can be used to create these type of shipments.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!!Transportation planning point : ATP1

Issues in Process chain after Transporting to Q
Hi All
I have couple of issues with my process chain (in Q). We have recently upgraded from BW3.5 to BI7.0. After upgrade i have a change made to one of my Process chain. i have transported it successfully to Q system. I have collected all the related objects associated with the change in the transport. But when try to see the changes changes in the process chain in Q system i have the following issues.
1. i do not see my changes in display mode. But i am able to see all the changes if i go to change mode (this looks weird and i dont know why)
2. i am unable to schdule the process chain in Q system as i was able to do earlier. Now it is asking for Transport when i try to schedule the process chain. this was not the case earlier.
3. In the transport i also collected a newly created infopackage and added it to the Process chain. But i do not see any link between the infopackage and the process chain (it was supposed to have a link as it had in DEV), i mean when i go to infopackage it used to give me a mesage saying the infopackage is already available in Process chain which i got in DEV.
All the above cases were working per normal in DEV systems tested and were collected as required in the transports and moved to Q
Please let me know ASAP if any of you have encountered similar problems before and have solutions. i saw couple of related threads (some suggested to directly activate the process chain in Q system by opening the Q systems as an alternate) but could not find a solution
Any sort of help will be really appreciated
Thanks
HK1. Display mode shows only the active version of Process chain. When you go into change mode, it displays the inactive version (if any available). Make sure you activate the process chain in the change mode. Then the chain you see in display and change mode will be in sync.
2. When you try to schedule, the Process chain will be activated as well. If your Q system is prompting for transport then probably the system is open for changes. If you want to modify process chains in Q and P systems, make appropriate Object Changeability settings in Transport connection in Q and P systems and make sure the system is closed for changes (SCC4).
3. Use Transport connection to collect the objects required for Process chain. After transport, check the transport log and make sure all the objects are imported successfully.

Transport process chain by transport connection step by step
Hello expert:
how to transport process chain by transport connection step by step?
Many thanks,Go to RSA1 -> Transport Connection.
Make sure Only Necessary objects is selected under Grouping.
Expand Process Chain -> Click on Select Objects -> Search for the process chain you want to transport.
Select it and click transfer.
When finished collecting - Click on the Red Truck. Create a transport request when prompted to create a request.
Then go to SE10 or SE09 -> Find your request and right click and select release on your transport request as well as the task under it.
After it is released you can check the log by clicking on the log button and see if your transport moved successfully to target system.
Good Luck.

Examples of transportation chain
Hi Friends
A transportation chain supports the shipment of inbound or outbound deliveries for which several modes of transport are to be used.
Please give examples of transportation chain.
Thank youI need one help as i am new to the Transportation. The query is if i want to send goods from India to US and there would be 3 legs involved.
1st leg -> Preliminary leg would be - By Road to Port A
2nd leg -> Main Leg would be - By Sea to Port B
3rd leg -> Subsequent leg would be again From Port B to Customer.
We have 1 Forwarding Agent who will take care for 1st leg and 2nd leg, but for 3rd leg Forwarding agent will be different.
I would like to know how many Shipping document will be created - One or Three. I am confused as when we maintain Route and define Stages, we mention all the legs under the Routes and Stages. and when the routes is copied from Delivery to Shipment document, all the stages are also copied in the Shipment document. So i understand there would be only one Shipping document created.
Do anyone have uploaded one sample examples with end to end scenario of transportation chain for better and clear understanding. -
Transport layer and transport package
I have a fundamental query on transport package and layer.
Objects are classified in packages depending on the project and put in $TMP or test package else they are local ? Only objects belonging to a transport package can be transported , others are not ? How transport package is defined ? All objects must be a part of transport package else can not be transported ?
ABout transport layer, I understand this is used to define which path objects will take during transport particularly when there are multiple transport routes. But what are the advantages of it ? How we can define it (trx code/menu path) ?
Is it mandatory to use transport package and layers ?Hi Mike,
Just to clarify a few basic concepts:
A transport package (formerly called a "development class", a term you may still encounter) groups related development objects. Whenever you create a new development object (table, program, ...) you have to assign it to a package; the object is then placed into a transport request. Alternatively you can indicate it is a local object (its package is then "$TMP") but such an object is non-transportable.
A transport layer identifies the route that transportable devmt objects must follow. Typically in your system you will have two layers: a layer usually called Zxxx (with xxx = SID of your development system) is used for your own developments. Another layer called "SAP" is used for transporting SAP objects, for example changes to standard SAP code implemented via transaction SNOTE and recorded in repairs. Without the "SAP" layer in place, repairs would be non-transportable.
Each transport package belongs to a layer. You assign the layer when you create a new package in transaction SE80. You can change the layer later on, but this is rarely needed and can cause quite a few side-effects. SAP objects always have layer "SAP". The layers themselves are managed in STMS, under "Transport Routes".
Hope this clarifies things,
Rgds, Mark -
What's the difference between transport route and transport layer
what's the difference between transport route and transport layer,Can somebody give me some explaination? thks in advance!
Hi,
Transport Layer in ABAP Workbench
The Change and Transport System supports the distribution of development
work on large projects across multiple SAP Systems.
The packages in each development system are grouped into one transport
layer.
The transport layer determines whether objects are assigned to a local
or transportable change request.
Use
Each of your SAP development systems is assigned a transport layer as
its standard transport layer. If you use Extended Transport Control, you
can assign different standard transport layers to certain clients.
You can define at the most one consolidation target for each SAP System
and transport layer.
When you create a package, it is assigned the standard transport layer
of the SAP System.
If you want to assign a different transport layer to a package, you
require the administration authorization for the Change and Transport
System.
The objects in a package automatically have the transport attributes
defined for the corresponding transport layer.
o If a consolidation route originating in their SAP System is defined,
then the objects are assigned to a transportable request, and
transported into the consolidation target when it is released.
o If a consolidation route is not defined, the objects are assigned to
a local request, and are not transported.
Customizing settings are not assigned to a package. They have the
transport attributes of the standard transport layer of the system or
client.
It is best to assign a package a standard transport layer for which a
consolidation route originating in the development system is defined.
To display and maintain the transport layers and routes, use the
Transport Management System (transaction STMS).
Only the system adminstrator can make changes.
Caution:
The tables TSYST, DEVL, TWSYS, TASYS are no longer productive as of
Release 4.0A and cannot be maintained.

B2B-50079 Transport error: To Transport Informations Not found
Hi,
I'm trying an outbound scenario in b2b using ebXML. When i tried to test, 3 messages for a single instance can be seen.
1.A message entry with correct document type which converts custom format to ebXML format and the status is in "MSG_WAIT_ACK" for some time. (sender and receiver are correct)
2. A message entry with document type acknowledgement is seen with status "MSG_ERROR". (sender and receiver both are same - means the host TP)
3. A message entry with no document type and status as "MSG_ERROR". (sender and receiver both are same - means the host TP)
Later, the original message entry state changes from "MSG_WAIT_ACK" to "MSG_ERROR" since the retry for acknowledgement is over.
What is the mistake I'm doing here? Please help me to resolve this.

Diffrence between File Transport and CTS+ Transport in PI
Hi Guys,
Can you please explain me the diffrence between File Transport and CTS+ Transport in PI.
What are the advantages of CTS+ Transportation over FILE Transportation...
Thanks,
Siva...The file transfer will simply export the objects to a TPZ file, allowing you to import on the target system. This requires manual copying and paste of the object and have no further control.
CTS+ on the other side, allows the environment to maintain transport requests with control over objects audit. For example, an object must be created on DEV, then after being developed it must go to QA system and will only be sent to PROD when this object was approved by the respective team on QA. For more information on CTS+, please check the help page below.
