Transporting iweb files between computers

Hi!
Does anybody know how to transport iweb files between computers? If I have a site that I want to put on another computer without deleting the sites on that computer. What do I do? I have discovered that i can make many copies the Domain file that I have found in the Library/Applications Support/iWeb folder. Is this the only way?
Thanks!
/Chris

All you need to do is copy the Domain.sites2 file that's in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the same folder on the other computer.
If you plan to manage the site from both computers then this MacWorld article will be of interest: Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs.

  • Transfering iWeb files between computers

I bought a new iMac and used migration to move all my apps & files off my laptop. However, my iWeb files didn't transfer; I want to keep my site updated using my desktop machine.
Any suggestions how to transfer these files?

iWeb files don't transfer by themselves. You have to do it. Go to your old computer and get the file.

I created a blog website on my laptop and now want to move those files to my iMac.  How do I do that?

The file you need to move to the other computer is names Domain.sites2 and is located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.

  • How do I drag and drop files between computers when using Home Sharing in ITunes?

How can I drag music files between computers while using Home Sharing? An older version of ITunes had a Home Sharing icon in the column browser near the playlist so it was easy to drag and drop.

    Hello cacalenni,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you wish to learn how to import songs using Home Sharing in the new iTunes. The following resource should assist you in doing so:

  • How do I share files between computers (mac's) on the same wireless network?

How do I share files between computers (mac's) on the same wireless network?

Turn on File Sharing in System Preferences - Sharing, then you should be able to see them in the other Macs' Finder sidebars (under Shared). Click on them, click Connect As, and log in with the user credentials you're sharing from.

  • How to share files between computers and TC

What is the best way to share content/files between computers (iMac and MacBook Pro)?
I thought about using Time Capsule for this...is this NOT wise?
    Thanks

What is the best way to share content/files between computers (iMac and MacBook Pro)?
The simplest way to do this would be to enable File Sharing on both Macs.
    On each Mac....
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Sharing
Enter a check mark next to File Sharing
Now when you open the Finder or Macintosh HD, you will see the "other" Mac and you will be able to access files/folders, etc. on the other computer.
I thought about using Time Capsule for this...is this NOT wise?
The Time Capsule was designed to work with the Time Machine application to back up your Mac(s). As such, the TC will make a complete copy of each Mac on the first backup and backup any changes after that to keep a complete timeline of each Macs files. Each computer normally will only be able to access the backups for that given computer.
While it is possible to store normal files or folders on the Time Capsule disk, this is not generally recommended as there will eventually be a struggle between Time Machine and the files on the disk as the drive begins to fill up. The other thing to keep in mind is that access to the drive for "normal" files will be quite slow.

  • Moving files between computers

Hello, friends, can anyone plz advice me how best to move a file from one Mac to another? I thinkin there must be some kind of cable I could purchase for this. I want to move a one hour IMovie 6 movie to a larger Mac to burn on IDVD. After 20 continous hours of attempting to burn it on my smaller Mac, I gave up the ship and force quit IDVD. The small Mac Book 2.1 say I have 14 gb available in IMovie for this job whereas the larger, newer Mac has 115 gb! This must be the best way to go!?
Thanks a ton and a half!

It's actually very easy, all you need is a single FireWire cable. Here are the instructions right from the Mac's Help menu:
Transferring files between two computers using FireWire
You can use FireWire to connect your computer to another Mac and have one of the computers appear as an external hard disk on the other computer. This is sometimes called Target Disk Mode.
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the first computer and leave the second computer on.
Connect the two computers using a 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable. (If both computers have higher-speed FireWire 800 ports in addition to the standard FireWire 400 ports, you can use a 9-pin to 9-pin cable with the FireWire 800 ports to transfer data at higher speeds.)
Open System Preferences, click the Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start up the first computer while holding down the T key.) A disk icon for the first computer appears on the desktop on the second computer. Drag files to and from the disk to transfer them.
When you finish, eject the first computer's disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
Push the power button on the first computer to shut it down and disconnect the FireWire cable.
If the computer to which you connect your computer is running Mac OS 9, it must have FireWire version 2.3.3 or later installed. Use Apple System Profiler (located in /Applications/Utilities) to check the version of FireWire installed. If it has an older version, get an update at the Apple FireWire website at www.apple.com/firewire.

  • Suddenly slow transfer of files between computers over LAN

All, I have the following: HP Desktop, XP Pro, SP3, with Maxtor external HD Dell Laptop, VISTA Business, SP2 Both 32 bit Both running Norton Internet Security 2011, including firewall Linksys WRT54GL router V1.1, connected to DSL The external HD is configured to share over the network. I use it to move files between the twp computers, and to access the Internet. It has been working fine for about 3 years. Everything is still working, except that the speed of transfer, either direction, between the laptop and the external HD has dropped to nearly zero. Files that used to take a minute or so to transfer now literally take hours, and depending on the software, may time out. The problem is not so much the speed over the network, but that the data is only sent in short bursts, with long, many seconds, delays between. As the file progresses, the process gets worse. Typically, it takes as long to send the last 10 % as the first 90%. In the past, the data was sent in a continuous stream. The access between the laptop and the Internet is still fine. I am in a rural area, and have verified that there is no other WiFi to interfere. Using my backup program, I have rolled both my computers back to a time when everything was working. The problem still exists. That seems to point to the router. I have flashed the most recent firmware and reconfigured, but not help. Google turns up lots of hits, but nothing that fits this. Any suggestions on what to do next? For now, I am just swapping the USB drive physically. Alan

Try to reset the router and reconfigure it.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.
Change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings.
Go to Wireless tab and click on Advanced wireless settings. Change the Beacon Interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings. Power cycle the router and see if that helps you.
Disable or turn OFF the firewall or Anti-virus software on your computer.

  • How do you sync files between computers

I want to sync files between Macbook Pro (2011) and IMac. File structure for Pictures needs to be Identical, not sure what is best method. Do not want to try until I have a good plan.
    Ashleyriverman

    Hello AshleyRiverman,
It sounds like you have a directory of folders that contain photos in a specific organization that you want to copy to another computer. You can enable File Sharing to be able to access the photos from one computer on another, and even allow the viewing computer to be able to add photos or delete them, thereby keeping them the same across both computers. This article will help you get that set up and configure the permissions for it:
OS X Mountain Lion: Share your files
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Transporting files between computers and versions.

My school uses CS5.5. I have the student version from the Design Premium Suite CS5. Do I need to purchase another Suite to get the 5.5 update (It is eight months old)? What steps do I need to take to be able to work on the same project at school and at home? The files I brought home from school today generate an error message about plugins and then an error message about needing to update and they won't load.

Your tutors should be able to tell you this
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/using/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6d4da.h tml
It's been asked so many times.
How hard would it be for Adobe to make the InDesign save file (.indd) have a (.idml) packed inside it for opening in previous versions? With a warning or something, or perhaps freeze the layout on pages and you unfreeze them (how would that work?) I dunno.
Adobe really needs to make this easier and apparent to do.

  • Where is the file that contains the addresses from the Mavericks Contacts app?  I need to synch two such files between computers.

I've been using Synchronise Pro X for years to sync several key work folders between a desktop machine (iMac) and my MacBook Pro.  Having just upgraded both computers to Mavericks, things still worked, but the file scaning in SyncPro was very slow, so I upgraded to the latest version of Synchronise....   Now I've noticed that I cannot find the data files for what used to the Address Book program (and is now called Contacts) on either computer.  Where are those files kept, as is there any reason that I would not be able to sync them?

I'll try iCloud, although I'm not happy with sharing my address book with Apple.  Is there a secure way to do this? Also, when I tried to use iCloud to share Notes across my phone and the two Macs, I ended up with duplicate copies.  Will that also happen with the contact list?

  • Transfering Bridge (and files) between computers

I will soon be switching over to a new computer, which means overhauling my files and unfortunately Bridge. I know that my labels and keywords will transfer since they are attached to the files themselves in the metadata, but what about my collections? I have smart collections which would rebuild themselves once I re-constructed them on the new computer, but I also have some manually built collections that I don't fully remember the criteria for dragging certain pictures in them. I am not sure how to transfer either type of collection beyond having both computers open Bridge and manually reconstruct them. Since I am 1:1 transfering my files for the most part (i.e. keeping the same folder hierarchy), the new computer will have the same relative paths which might work to my advantage or might make no difference whatsoever. Any ideas on exporting/importing collections and other features of Bridge that may not be readily transferable or that are not stored in the metadata?

You might want to explore the concept of "build and export cache" in tools/cache.  Not all data is written to the file, some is held in an XMP file, which has same name as file.  You want them both to transfer at same time.
To see if you have XMP files click on view/show hidden files.
    Don't know much about collections.

  • Best way to share files between computers?

    Hi,
    I have a MBP & a G5 and I am doing video editing with FCP & web-designing with
Dreamweaver on both of the computers. The problem is that I have been using
    the two computers completely separate.
For example, if I create a project on my laptop, I can't go to my desktop and continue it
unless I copy the files to a zip drive (or something similar) and manually transfer the files.
And then I don't know which files are actually up to date.
Is there any simple way that I can have the two computers produce, access & share files easier?
I do have a .mac account but I don't know much about it's capabilities?
I could really use some help and advise here.
    Thanx,
    Todd

    Hi,
I had the exact same question/ problem a couple of days ago. I think in your case, working with large video files, .mac might not be an option.
I would say you either work of an external drive (maybe connected as a shared drive wirelessly) as it was suggested to me, or you use a file sync utility like ChronoSync to keep both machines mirrored.
    Hope this helps.

  • Moving files between computers; GB can't open it

Last night I was working on editing a couple of tracks and using the trackpad on the TiBook was becoming a pain, so I went back to hubby's computer and he created the tracks for me quickly. Then he tried to email the file, but GB won't open it. It came through named "data file" which might be something to do with Entourage.
I went back to his computer this morning and sent it again using yousendit.com, and it comes through as a .band file, but it still won't open. Then I tried the "Save as Archive" option, just in case, and tried sending it again. It looks right, but it still won't open. All it says is "can't open file" and the location and name. If you double click on the file itself, GB opens and pops up the dialog box asking if you want to open a song or create a new one.
It's only two tracks, both software instruments, and only about 8 bars long, so it's not too big to be mailed. Info does show it as a GarageBand Project. We have the same version of GB (1.1.0) on both computers. The file I'm sending to myself is the file in the User/Name/Music/GarageBand folder.
I am seeing now that when I retrieve the file it's size is 4KB. On the other computer it's 340KB. Are there other files that need to be transferred for it to work? We can pass files back and forth to work on them, right?
I know this probably has a simple answer, but I can't find it by searching the forums (GB 1 & 2), FAQs, Support Pages, GB Help, or even (and I'm shocked! All my answers are usually there!) HangTime's site. What is my pilot error?

You've saved the day yet again.
Hmmm, "saved the day"? Seems a little much, but I'll certainly take it %-)>
    why did it work?
Sadly I'm not as well versed in some of the deeper intricacies of OS X as I was about older versions. It was my understanding that OS X had moved away from "Resource Forks" (don't worry about the definition, it's a little complicated, but the important thing is that moving Mac Files without encoding them first could strip the resource fork of a file and render it useless)
I wouldn't expect this to be the issue with a modern app from Apple, but it could be something similar. Packing it just makes sure that all the parts are transmitted.
    Thanks again.
    You're welcome, I'm glad I could help --Hang %-)>
