Transporting objects from SAP BW 3.5 to SAP BI

Hi Experts,
I have SAP BI 7.0 installed on my laptop (C & D Drives) and have SAP BW 3.5 and SAP R/3 4.7 installed on an external hard drive (G).
Now I have created a data source in SAP BW 3.5 which i want to migrate to SAP BI 7.0.
Could anybody please let me know the step by step approach for how the objects created in SAP BW will be visible in SAP BI 7.0.
Many thanks in anticipation.
-Amit

Hi,
Please note that you probably have two different instances installed on your system. (BI7 and BW 3.5). Am I right?
If so you cannot transport one object from one system to the other.
You need to work in the BI7 system only if you want to migrate the datasources. ie. In your BI7 instance you have a datasource which is a 3.5 datasource. When you migrate this datasource, you are converting it to a BI7 datasource in the same instance.
So the question of partitions does not arise.
If you need to do a transport from one instance to the other, I think a better solution would be to put up this question in the Basis forum. You'll probably need a transport connection between the instances, not sure about this though.
If its migration that you are looking for, then you can simply search this forum, there are a lot of treads on the same topic.
Regards.

  • Problems transporting objects from DEV to QAS

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem trying to transport objects from an environment to another (DEV to QA) in XI. The issue is that the objects that were transported can't be visualized in the namespace; I checked the server log and it shows:

    Hi,
The problem is that I can't transport any object (Datatypes, message types, service interface, message mapping, etc.) in XI from DEV to QAS.
I did all the steps to transport objects:
    1. Export the objects from XI-DEV
    2. Import them in XI-QAS
    3. A message of successfull import is shown; however the objects can't be visualized. When I check the log it shows the message that I copied in my previous post.
    Hope you can help me.
    Thanks.

  • Hi,how can i transport objects from one server to other like (Dev To Qty)

    Hi Sir/madam,
Can u explain how can i transport objects from one server to other like (Development To Quality To Production).
    Regards,
    Vishali.

    Hi Vishali,
Step 1: Collect all Transports(with Packages) in Transports Tab(RSA1)- CTO
Step 2: Release the subrequests first and then the main request by pressing Truck button
Step 3: STMS or Customized transactions
    Object Collection In Transports:
The respective Transports should have the following objects:
    1. Base Objects -
    a. Info Area
    b. Info object catalogs
    c. Info Objects
    2. Info Providers u2013
    a. Info Cubes
    b. Multi Providers
    c. Info Sets
    d. Data Store Objects
    e. Info Cube Aggregates
    3. Transfer Rules u2013
    a. Application Components
    b. Communication Structure
    c. Data Source replica
    d. Info Packages
    e. Transfer Rules
    f. Transformations
    g. Info Source Transaction data
    h. Transfer Structure
    i. Data sources (Active version)
    j. Routines & BW Formulas used in the Transfer routines
    k. Extract Structures
    l. (Note) If the transfer structures and related objects are being transferred without preceding
Base Objects transport (e.g. while fixing an error) it is safer to transport the related Info
    Objects as well.
    4. Update Rules u2013
    a. Update rules
    b. Routines and formulas used in Update rules
    c. DTPs
    5. Process Chains u2013
    a. Process Chains
    b. Process Chain Starter
    c. Process Variants
    d. Event u2013 Administration Chains
    6. Report Objects u2013
    a. Reports
    b. Report Objects
    c. Web Templates

  • Importing Objects from SAP

    Hi All,
I'm trying to import RFC objects from SAP Server. However upon trying to import the objects the SAP System is tied to ECD system. The object I'm trying to import is located at PID. How do I change the SAP System so that I can import the object from PID?
    Thanks
    John

Did you check the note shared by Mark? Just double click on the software component version.
    Actions in the PI ESR
Call transaction sxmb_ifr and logon to the ESR.
Open the Software Component Version (SWCV) that you wish to import the IDoc/RFC into
Enter the connection details of the SAP R/3 backend system (SID, Client and Server name)
Go to the Imported Objects subnode for this SWCV and right click
    Select Import of SAP Objects
Enter the Logon details of the SAP backend R/3 system
Expand the IDoc/RFC node and select the IDoc/RFC you wish to import (you can also use the search function)
    Execute the import

  • Is it possible to transport objects from 4.6C to ECC6?

    Hello,
Apologies if I am posting this in the wrong forum. I have developed some custom z-tables and an application in ABAP / Screen Painter on a 4.6C server. Is it possible to transport these to an ECC6 system? Otherwise I will have to recreate everything on the ECC6 server. Help is appreciated, thanks.
    Regards

    Hi,
Yes it is possible, Please login into target system(ECC6) get data and cofiles from source system (4.6c) using ftp method then import the transport objects using tp addtobuffer and tp import with the help of below example.
    Ex:
    tp addtobuffer transportname SID pf=\usr\sap\trans\bin\PROFILE_NAME
    tp import transportname SID client=nnn U16 pf=\usr\sap\trans\bin\PROFILE_NAME

  • Transporting objects from sandbox to dev

I did some intrfaces in sandbox due to unavailibility of dev server. Now its available and I wanna transfer my objects fom Sandbox to Dev. How can this  be done???
By converting it to TPZ format or some other way???
Any sort of help is appreciated....

    Hi Soumen,
Using TPZ files will be easier for transporting XI design and config objects.....U can transport ur design objects from sandbox to Dev without problem.....but to transport config objects u hav to transport BS and TS from ur source SLD to target SLD first....thn u can export the TPZ files from source ID.....however u dnt require it if BS and TS of same name in both sandbox and Dev....to transport BS and TS follow these  steps.....
    1) select all the technical systems you need to transfer in ur source SLD.
        Then, choose Export.
Note :  Associations for business systems with no technical system in the target SLD will be lost. This will
result in error messages. Ensure that all technical systems are selected.
    2) Choose Download file and Save the Zip archive.
    3) Choose Administration on the traget SLD home page.
         Then, Choose Import.
    4) Browse to the exported file and choose Import File.
    Follow same for BS also.....
    U can chk dis also....

  • Transport object from Prod to Dev

    Hi Folks,
Developer wants to restore a version of SAP "Smart Form" from production to Dev system as the one in dev system lost some modifications. In Dev system, it was always showing the current active version and there are no traces of old versions or i am not looking in the correct place.
In this particular landscape, there is no transport path between Dev and Prod. We manually FTP transports (Cofile and data files). Could you please, guide how to create a transport with a "Smart Form" from production to dev. After searching the forum, i could find only one posting talking about opening the production system and create a transport.  I can open the production system for a brief period and create a transport but i am seeking for help if any one has done this before.
I am not sure if i have to crearte temporatry transport path.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hello again rk_007
on this case, you can create a 'temporary' transport route from Production to Development (temporary on the sense that you can delete it afterwards. By all means, this route is just another normal one).  By doing so, you will be able to create a transport request in the Productive system, release it and import it on the other system.
You just have to go to u201CSTMS --> Overview --> Transport Routesu201D, create the route you want and distribute the new configuration. Once that the transport is done you can delete that transport request.
Do you know who to manage transport routes? It's not difficult, you need to go to STMS transaction, click on the routes button (or Shift + F7), go on 'Edit' menu, then 'Transport Route' option then 'Add Transport Route'.
You can find everything explained here:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/44/b4a1df7acc11d1899e0000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
Further and valuable information can be found here:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/57/38de0c4eb711d182bf0000e829fbfe/content.htm
    http://www.sap-img.com/basis/transport-request-within-same-server-different-clients.htm
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/EmTech/TMSassigningclassorpackagetoroute
But there is another option where the creation of a transport route is not needed, which might fit your need (and which I believe it's the FTP option you're already using):: you can create the transport request in Productive system (from SE01) and instead of creating a Workbench transport request, create a Transport of Copies. Once that the request is created, you can add the objects you need manually and release the transport request. The datafile and cofile will be created in the data and cofile directories of the transport directory of the Productive system; now you will have to copy manually (at operating system level) the datafile and cofile of the transport request to the transport directory of the Development system, and go to u201CSTMS --> Overview --> Imports --> double click in DEV --> Extras --> Other Requests --> Addu201D  to add this transport request to the import queue of DEV system. Now you will be able to import it into DEV, avoiding the creation of the transport route from PRD to DEV.

Did you see that you tried to transport to an older release!! You should have expected such a result.
Before doing such a thing, you should have looked at SAP notes to see SAP recommendations, if any. And you're lucky, there are ones: [Note 1090842 - Composite note: Transport across several releases|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1090842]. You need to know that ECC6 corresponds to SAP Basis 7.0, and ECC5 corresponds to SAP Basis 6.40.

  • Transporting object from development to production server

    Hi Everyone,
Could you plz tell me how can i transport a object from development server to production serevr if that object is local in production server. And also could u tell me if the transfer structure is replaced if the names are different in both the server???

Could you plz tell me how can i transport a object from development server to production serevr if that object is local in production server.
Case 1: Object is in Prod, but not in Dev. and you want to align the systems through transports.
You will have to send it to D (which could be done by changing transport routes & then following normal transport procedure) & then will have to bring it back with overwrite originals.
Case 2: Object is present both in Prod & Dev.
You can send the transports D->P with Overwrite originals (following the transport procedures).
And also could u tell me if the transfer structure is replaced if the names are different in both the server???
If technical names are different in both the servers, the transfer structure will not be overwritten.

  • Upload documents to filenet p8 for sap objects from SAP

    Hi..
Appreciate if anyone can let me know the process of uploading documents to Filenet P8 from SAP for relevant SAP objects.
This will also create the link to object and document in the SAP LINK tables..
Any documents are urls related to this topic are appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The EMC Solutions design center offers a free SAP storage sizing regardless of your current storage vendor.   It can be as easy as providing SAP Earlywatch reports.  See https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-11310  If you are just looking for the incremental needs from the upgrade to the new release, that is more specific to SAP and your config.  Good Luck

  • Transport objects from 4.6C to ECC 6.0?

    Hello,
I have developed some custom z-tables and an application in ABAP / Screen Painter on a 4.6C server. Is it possible to transport these to an ECC 6.0 system? Otherwise I will have to recreate everything on the ECC 6.0 server. Help is appreciated, thanks.
    Regards

    Hello Markus,
    thanks for the reply.
You're right, but in my opinion this type of transport is part of the normal activity of double-maintenance of an upgrade project where in some cases you have to handle the alignment of thousands of custom developments that becomes productive montly.
In my experience I have handled with success the transport of custom objects from a productive landscape (rel. 4.0b)  to an upgraded development system (rel. 4.7) where the jump is much larger and where the adjustment of post-import required only a few minutes.
The question is: it takes more time to completely redo the program directly in ECC or make the transportation from the old release and fix errors in ECC after import?
It 'possible that in the case of Khan, the custom screen-painter doesn't work properly or gives syntax error due to some obsolete ABAP instructions, but this is part of the game....
    Ciao.

    Hi Kalyan.,
When you want to create a new sales order type then its better to copy the existing order type from the standard one and save it in one request and then you release the request in SE09 and further it is transported by Basis people using T.code STMS
I have sent step by step configuration with screen shots,Please go through that
    REWARD if helpfull
