Transports Doubt

Hi All,
i hve a small doubt regarding transports
if Dev and QA are on differnt service packs .. say dev is on a lower pack than QA, can we transport from dev to QA?
Please reply asap!!

Hi,
Yes you can transport between Dev & Quality eventhough both are on different Service packes ,but it is Surely not recommended.

Hi Transport Gurus
If cube is collected in a request and released and not migrated to other system.
I make changes to cube and save it to a new request.
What will happen to the not yet migrated request it fails after migrating if all dependent objects in place ?

Nothing will happen.Ask your basis to delete it from Tranport Queue so that it will not available for importng.
Yes released request will still have Infocube without changes. So you need to delete this from transport Queue.otherwise if if this request is imported later point of time,it will overwrite changes.
or Just import it in target then import the TR which has changes collected in it.

TRANSPORTS DOUBTS

Hi Team
I am confused while Transporting of Objects.
I have developed Objects in ID and have Transported from DEV to QA. After that some changes have been done to the Objects and some of the Objects have been deleted. Shld i Transport only the Chnges which have been done to theobjects or shld i also Transport the Objects which have been deleted.???
Can we directly Delete the unwanted objects directly in the QA???
please help me out.

Hey dude,
Let me simplify a rule for you.
1) Integration Repository objects always always make sure you take them from development to QA to Production - basically keep the versioning in sync.
2) However Integration Directory is not so much of a problem.
Given they are ID objects you are asking about, you dont' have to take the deleted objects with you, simply just delete.
Some of the really guru developers don't even worry about transporting ID objects, they just create them from scratch in the new instance.
And now a simple example to make it clear in your mind. Lets say you create an FTP channel in Dev, once you transport it in QA if you notice you have to refill all the details again .... so

So that you can differentiate between global changes to the system and client-specific Customizing settings, the CTS records your changes in either a Workbench request or a Customizing request:
Workbench Requests
When you change a Repository object of the ABAP Workbench, a query window appears in which you need to specify a Workbench request. You can only save the changes if you have assigned the object to a change request.
Workbench requests and the tasks assigned to them are normally used to record changes to Repository objects and Customizing for all clients. However, you can also include client-specific Customizing.
Whether the changes to Repository objects are transported depends on whether a transport route is defined from the current SAP System for the package of these objects. From the system settings, the system automatically determines whether the change requests are transportable and to which target system they should be transported.
Customizing requests
Customizing requests record client-specific Customizing settings made in a single client (the source client of the request).
Automatic recording of configuration activities in the Customizing work for a client can be activated or deactivated for each client with Client Control. If automatic recording is active, a query window appears when you change Customizing settings, asking you to specify a Customizing request.
Whether Customizing requests are transported or not, does not depend on the objects entered, as is the case with Workbench change requests. The Customizing requests in an SAP System (or in a client if you use Extended Transport Control) are either all transportable or all local, depending on the system setting. The system uses the standard transport layer to determine automatically whether the change requests are transportable and to which target system they should be transported. However, you can change this manually.

Doubt in Transport Request

Dear Gurus,
I have one doubt in transport. My production system has gone live 2 years. Everything is woriking fine. Now in my source system side, they want to increase length for 3 objects (Length 8 to 10).
In development part, we have completed everything and now we are ready to transport. At the time of transport,whether we want to delete data in that 3 objects in production or it will enhance without giving any trouble?
In that 3 objects, 2 objects having alpha conversion.
Kindly provide your inputs.

Hi,
For the ones having conversion routine, you shouldn't face any problems. For the one that dosen't it'll basically start pulling data with the modified lengths from the day it goes into Production with the new lenths, but for the already existing data, it won't change the lenghts. If you want to have the existing data with the new lengths, then you need to back out and reload.
Also, your transport from Dev to Prod might take time depending on the volume of that you currently have in those info objects.

Very basic doubt regarding transporting abap developments

Hi All,
It may be very basic doubt, But I need an answer.
If we develop some objects in the development and transported them to quality and for some reason some errors occured and the for correction of the errors we created some more requests and ported them to Quality.
the number of requests are say more than 15. and if we lost track of sequece of the requests to be ported to production.
How can we overcome this problem?
Can we create a new transport request by right clicking the package (of course all the objects are in only one package) , this will solve the purpose. I mean to say if we transport this single request to quality then to production, all the things will get transported?

My question is if we create a new request from the package in SE80, can we leave the old requests,
That is if I transport a request say req 2 of domain for solving the dependency error of the previous request say req1 ( of data element ). and again transport req 1 after transporting req 2, this will solve the dependency problem. Like this if some dependency related issues are there and we lose track of sequence of request which needs to be transported, what could be the ideal solution?
So I mean to ask that if I create a new request for the package in SE80, will all the developments will be included in the request or do we need to follow the sequence only?

     On which version of PI you are working on?
1)If you are using PI 7.1 there is an option to configure SLD synchronization [LINK|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e5e7cc9b-0501-0010-adb2-ffbe7f1f7e6f?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true]
2) If you are using PI 7.0 and need to transport your business systems then you need to create a transport group in the transport tabin such a way
                DEV> QAS>PRD
         For Dev system create QAS as target gorup
         For QAS system PRD as target group and DEV as source group
then you would be able to transport your Business systems across your landscape.

Doubt regarding Transporting Design Objects

Hi all,
While transporting the design objects from DEV to QAS, iam doing in the following way
1) i am doing transport Namespace wise individually and exported one by one.These all interfaces involved with IDOCs
2) When i import into Quality Design, i am not able to see the IDOCs under Imported Objects.
How to proceed further??

Doubt reg submit in a program and transportation.

Hi Folks,
I have a report XYZ in which 2 other reports named ABC and DEF
were submitted using SUBMIT.
I had made some corrections in the report DEF and duly transported
the same DEF to Quality and prodcution.
My question is, do I need to transport the program XYZ too as it
is using this program DEF(for which the corrections were made) again
to quality and production.

The submit is like this
SUBMIT zmm_rept_rg1_det_003_new WITH
           SELECTION-TABLE fp_it_rsparams AND RETURN.
And in the above submit program there is a date field in the selection-screen.
and we have done a minor change in the where clause of this program
SELECT * FROM z2irg1bal
    APPENDING CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE it_bal1
         WHERE matnr = itab6-matnr
               AND datum LE p_stdate
<b>           AND datum < p_stdate</b>
                AND exgrp = itab6-exgrp.
earlier it used to be EQ.
So, you mean to as the submit done with the selection screen I need to transport even the program which is using this program.

Transport organiser - doubts?

In the transport organizer, i see a tree of all the transports in the system. one says Modifiable and the other released. Under Modifiable tab, i see many request numbers and the user name and beneath each request number, i see several other request number with other user id's too. And under that request number i see many components. Some of them relevant and some others non-relevant ones.
When i need to transport all the development to the QA system, do i need to the select the request number beneath the Modifiable tab and release it. Or do i need goto Transport connection tab in workbench and collect all the required objects.
which way would be more accurate and appropriate?
And some of the items i installed were in local object too .. do i need to manually change them to the development class or the system does that?
And when i want to transport an infocube, will that collect all the necessary objects? Will it collect the queries attached to it too?
Any pointers, documentation and directions would be helpful and appreciated. Something more like a cookbook would be really helpful.

the transport organizer, while it will most likely not make much sense, contains all modifications done to the system that are assigned a proper package, and hence, possess its own transport request number/s. let me try to answer your questions:
- when you need to transport from dev to QA, the MOST accurate would be to, of course, recollect. but it's not a good practice to do always since you're potentially retransporting things that aren't meant to be changed anymore, or yet. say for example, you have one infocube that has two update rules, where both have been modified, and one has been cleared for production use, and the other not. in the case of transporting the request number (assuming you have one transport request number for each update rule), you're ensured that only the changes that have been made will be transported. BUT if you decide to recollect for transport, the changes on those update rules may or may not be for release yet.
- yes, you need to manually change the development class from $TMP to your system. you can use SE03 for that.
- depends on the manner of collection you use.
i don't have any documentation, but help.sap.com is always a good place to start.

I want to know more about Transportation mechamism of XI.
As per my knowledge one is File system based(a lot of manual work ::( another one is CMS.
1. Pros and Cons of File System/CMS Transport ?
2. For Transporting IR and ID Objects above two mechamism is fine.But what about other objects used in a scenario :
a) ABAP objects created in Application System like RFC/Report/RFC Destinations.
b) Information of Business Systems/Tech Systems with SWCV in SLD ?

for FMS,suppose u have a BS called BS_File_IDOC_Dev which uses the IS of dev,now u create one more BS with the name BS_File_IDOC_Qa which uses the IS of QA,when u go in transport tab or BS_File_IDOC_dev u will find an option traget system,there u can give BS_File_IDOC_Qa,now when u move the objects from Dev to QA,u will automatically see the QA BS instead of Dev BS.this way u dont have to to change BS names manually in QA or Prd

Can someone help me in figuring out the need of message server and group after importing IDOC into IR. where can i find the message server ip address?
I am also wondering in the partner profiles when we need to use logical system (LS) or Supplier/vendors (LI) or Customers/debtor (KU) or etc.?

all you need for ID is to create transport targets in SLD

I has completed the Development and need to transport it to Quality.
Here i has written 4 UDFs based on the conditions on Mapping.
Could you please let me know while transporting the objects from DEV to QA ...shall i need to take extra care on UDFs.
Pls let me know the process if i really need to transport UDF's also into QA system.

Hi,
In addition to the functional implementation like mapping hard-coded values specfic to landscape, you must take an extra care on the following scenarios
1. If you are implementing any RFC look up - connection parameters may change
2. If you use value mapping - value group names may change
3. Enhanced receiver determination - receiver business system names may change
No extra care is needed if its a simple code that maps fields without expecting any runtime variations.
