Transports into Production

I was told that in order to transport changes to an ODS or update rules, the data in the target ODS must be deleted prior to transport.  But, if you have a lot of data in an ODS in Production, how do you save the data if you need to do a transport?
Thanks for your assistance.

hi Larry,
technically you have no need to empty your ods, as mentioned changing update rules wont require to delete ods data before transport, only if we change the keyfields, or remove infoobject,
but also as pointed by Biyaz, if you change the logic in update rules, the data loaded before may become not valid with the new logic, if the new rules only apply to new data then it's ok.
hope this helps.

  • Any reason why transporting into Production is slower?

    Hello Experts,
I have QAS which is less powerful than PRD. Both have no users except me now.
I have been transporting to PRD but always, same request gets transported into PRD substantially slower than into QAS.
Is there any cause for concern? Am not sure what could be the cause. Hope to get some advice.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Experts,
    Thanks for your helpful contribution.
    Points awarded.
Object being transported : workbooks and queries.
In fact, both QAS & PRD systems have similar dataset.
    And PRD is faster machine.
I also compared the time it took to transport 1 single workbook and query in both systems. As always, PRD takes about at least 2 times longer.
I think STMS quite ok. But will ask Basis to check if the speed of import can be improved.

  • Transporting changes into production

    guys,
    1) my fellow basis colleague is asserting that all the transports that are imported into QA system should be imported into Production . What if the change does not pass testing in QA ?? how can i import it into production ? please tell me who is right.
    2) I see a lot of transports in my QA system's import queue that havent been imported into the system. This means that my development system and QA/production systems are totally out of sync. Should all the transports that have been released from DEV be imported into QA  Or should the developers not release transports that are not needed in QA ? please advise.
    thanks

All the transports that have been moved to quality must be checked properly and and then moved to prouction only when there are error free.

Ideally you should not imort any transport request into quality unless told by development team. If they have been released in development then its not necessary to import in quality.
Your SAP development system wil never be in sync with your Quality as you will be using it a sadbox system.

  • Transport Request is not flagged for import into production.

When I try to migrate a CR from the quality system to the acceptance system, through solution manager system, the status flag still remains to be "To be tested" which normally does not happen.
I get 4 warnings as below:
    1) Status was reset by system
    2) No import into test system has taken place.
    3) Transport request is not flagged for import into production
    4) The tester role cannot be the same as the developer role.
Usually when a CR is selected for migration to Acceptance, the status flag automatically sets to "productive", which in turn depicts that the CR has been migrated to acceptance and is ready for import into production.
But when I check the Transport log in the acceptance system, it is evident that the CR has been migrated to acceptance with errors.

I guess these errors you mentioned are the reason why ChaRM reports your transprot request as
    2) No import into test system has taken place.
    1) Status was reset because 2) is not fullfilled.
    3) did not get flagged because status was not set due to previous errors.
    4) business partner of user with function "tester" (apparently the one who tries to set status) is the same as the business partner assigned to function "developer". If it should be the same person you can switch off the warning in customizing.
Try to correct import errors and repeat status switch.

  • Best Practice on Moving Standard Hierarchy (Cost /Profit)  into production

    Hi,
What is the best practice to move standard hierarchy into production? Is it better to move it as a transport? Or is it better to upload into production with LSMW?
    Thanks,
    Santoshi

    Hi,
Best practices applied to all developments whether it is R/3, BI modelling or Reporting and as per the best practice we do development in Development system, testing in testing box and finally deploy successful development to production. yes for user analysis purpose, user can do adhoc analysis or in some scenario they create user specific custom queries (sometimes reffere as X-query created by super user).
So it is always to do all yr developement in Development Box and then transport to Production after successful QA testing.

  • How to check transport in Production environment

    Hi,
I did some standard configuration as OBYA (Intercompany automatic Posting clearing account) in development Box and get it transported to Production.
I have to verify that the configuration I have done has been transported to Production Environment.
Where should I check? I don't have access to SE16 in Production.
    Quick response will be appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards.

    hi Mehak,
go to transaction SE01 (either in development/customizing or in production system), in the first tabstrip enter the transport number and click on Log (2nd Pushbutton). This will display the Transport Log, and you can see if there were no errors during import into Production System, then your changes are there.
    hope this helps

  • Scheduling transports into prod

    Hello,
We are running Solution Manager 7.0 SP15 and we have a requirement to import normal corrections into the production systems on Sunday morning at 4:30.
I for one do not want to wake up every Sunday to change the maintenance cycle of each system to "go-live" and then back to "development with release" in order to allow the transports to production.
There must be a way to automate/schedule this process.
Management wants to use only normal corrections for the Sunday transports.
    Thank you!

Why would you want to change your Maintenance Cycle back to in development with release?
Once you finish your maintenance cycle every week you should create a new one
In order to move the transports into Q or P automatically you can either schedule a job for the report /TMWFLOW/SCMA_BTCH_SYNC_UC which runs every 10mins and thus imports all transport for a specific Project for a particular System and Client.
Another possibility is to schedule the automatic mass import of all transport in the Q/P-import queue, via STMS. This will schedule the Report TMS_BCI_START_SERVICE (jobname TMS_0000000001TMS_TP_IMPORT)

  • How to trace planned order data after it has been converted into production

    Hi, There,
The planned order has been converted into production order.
However, I need to trace if this planned order is generated by MRP
run or created manually. I can't get any planned order info from
    table PLAF. Any input?
    Regards,
    Nancy

    Hi,
Once fully converted, the Planned Order data will not be available in the Table : PLAF.
If it is available, then You can have the details with the Time Stamp and User data from PLAF.
But, the refrence will be available in the Production Order.
You want to make a Track of the Planned Order details and the Quanity, then you need to have/create Z tables so that the data will be availabe.
This is how most of the Organizations keep a track of the Planned order data.
    Hope this helps..

Enhanced the Extract structure and activated the data source in Source system
Replicate the Data source in BI  and install the Infosource through BI Content  activated and transport them to Test system.

    Hi,
1.First transport the data source from R/3 dev to R/3 quality
2.Replicate the data source in BI Quality ( make sure you that in the data source tab, you are searching the data source below the appropriate source system ---otherwise you  data source may not appear)
3.goto rsd1in BI development for activataing the info objects which you have added extra in the info source (z info objects )
activate these info objects and collect in another request
4.transport these info objects from BI dev to  BI quality

We are going to Production Soon for the first time, wrt to XI. Could some one list what are all the points that we need to keep in mind when we move into production. The check list that we need to finalize etc. ( For example, I read that we have to decide how long a message needs to be persisted should be finalized ,etc).

    Hi,
a good starting point for a technical check is the "XI readiness check" which you can find attached to note 817920.

  • Is there a way to see what has been transported to Production

Hello all and thank you in advance for your responses, points will be award..
Need  to determine what  has been transported to production with time and stamp information. Been looking around with RSA1 and  just not able to find the right buttons or TC to get the correct information.
    Any suggestions.....
    Thank you Jim

    Hello Jim,
Check the logs in STMS.  That will show what has been imported.
Choose your import queue for your production box.  Once you are viewing that, you can click on the 'Scroll' icon which gives you the 'Import History'.
Be sure you adjust the filter accordingly to see everything.
    Thanks,
    Nick

You might want to look at SAP Note 1094449 -  "Change Request Management: Transport copies to sandbox", for help on this problem. Also please use SAP Note 1290986 - "ChaRM - Guidance of transporting copies to other systems", as a reference.

  • Transporting into a new BW system from a shared dev system

We are currently in the process of setting up a new BW system in the same landscape as our existing one where both boxes will share the same dev system.  Our existing one is used by many different applications and has tonnes of shared objects on it.  Our new box will only be used for SEM-BCS and thus does not need everything else that the other box contains.  Since many objects are dependant on others (attributes and such) I am finding it hard to get transports into the new system.  There always seems to be something missing even when I try to just move a single object.  I also seem to be having troubles with InfoObject Catalogs where they cannot be moved if the InfoObjects are not there and the InfoObjects a cannot be moved with the Catalogs not there.  This is all starting to give me a serious headache.
Has anyone delt with transporting to separate systems from a common development system?  What is the best approach to this to ensure we only move what we need to the new system?

The transporting is the same, however there are a lot of dependant objects that also need to be brought into our system.  I'm looking for a way to minimize what I need to transport into our new system.
Collecting automatically doesn;t seem to be working for me since it does not collect everything I need and when I add that missing object I then seem to be missing another list of objects.  It seems to be a never ending cycle.
