Trash and Drafts Mailbox?

In mail, only the inbox and sent mailboxes are there. The trash and draft mailboxes aren't in the left mailbox list. Where are these? How do I get to them? How can i put them in the left mailbox list?
Going to Mailbox > Go To > Drafts or Trash just brings me to a blank mailbox that says no mailbox selected at the top....i've already deleted messages

Does the problem persist if you quit Mail and open it again?
From which mailbox did you delete the message? If that mailbox is selected, do you see a Show/Hide Deleted Messages command in the View menu? Does that command appear enabled or disabled?
Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder in the Finder.
In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • IMAP Email: Sent, Trash, and Draft folder behavior

I just did a fresh install of Snow Leopard where I'm unable to configure or sync the Sent, Trash, and Draft Folders in their specific top level sections. Although, I was able to successfully configure them in this way before I reinstalled Snow Leopard (currently running 10.6.6).
I had 3 IMAP accounts within three top level folder sections called Inbox (3 accounts), Sent (3 accounts), Draft (3 accounts), and Trash (3 accounts) where all email was stored/synced on the IMAP server hosted by my webhost.
After reinstalling Snow Leopard, I configured each account the same exact way where the Inbox folder was configured just fine on the top level but now the Sent, Draft, and Trash folders have now moved to the lower level "On My Mac" section where specific sections were created for each account (Example: (Account 1 - Sent, Draft, Trash). Although, I do see a Sent section in the top level with nothing in it.
When configuring the email, I selected to store sent email, drafts, and trash on the server. Path is currently set to INBOX. I really do not understand why Mail is creating separate lower level "On My Mac" sections and placing the Sent, Draft, and Trash folders in there.
I greatly appreciate any help or tips I can try to set my IMAP email the way I had it before.

Select the 'Sent' mailbox in the lower section, choose menu 'Mailbox' > 'Use this Mailbox for' > 'Sent'.
Repeat the procedure for the other mailboxes (drafts, junk, trash).

  • Auto Delete From "On My Mac" Trash and Junk Mailboxes?

I have three pop accounts set up. I have set the prefs for each account to autodelete trash and junk messages older than one week. This works.
However, when I delete a message from a folder I manually created, Mail moves it to an "On My Mac" trash folder. If I mark a message as junk from a folder I manually created, it is moved to an "On My Mac" junk folder. These "On My Mac" trash and junk folders do not autodelete the messages. I cannot find a preference to set an autodelete option for "On My Mac" trash and junk mailboxes.
Is there anyway to do this? Am I missing something?
    Thanks

AFAIK, that’s how it works and you aren’t missing anything. The Mailbox Behaviors settings are account-specific and there is no way to specify those settings for “On My Mac” mailboxes... except I have my accounts set to erase messages in the Trash when quitting Mail, and my “On My Mac” Trash does the same...

  • Why when I send an email does it appear in "sent" and "drafts" mailboxes?

Often when I send an email a copy appears in both the sent and drafts mailboxes. Why does this happen, and can I stop it appearing in drafts?

If this is an IMAP account, try going to Mail/Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors and uncheck Store drafts on server.

  • Disappeared Outbox and Draft mailboxes

I seem to have lost both the Drafts and Outbox mailboxes from my left hand toolbar. I am running OX Leopard, not having been a very frequent user of my Mail system I am not sure when they went. suddenly I am a frequent user and am now missing them badly.
I have checked my Library and they are both showing there - but I'm not sure how to extract them, also they do not appear in the Mailbox Behaviours tab of Preferences.
PLEASE does anyone have any bright ideas? on a quick look through, I couldn't find any answers so far, although one thread has helped me get my Junk mailbox back thank you!
    cheers

This is the only Apple guidance I could find on archive mailboxes. I do not use one, so I have no thoughts... One of my E-mail accounts is a G-mail one. I do not like Google's mail application so I use it for one specific purpose.

  • My "sent" mailbox and "drafts" mailbox have disappeared. Help?

I tried to make a new folder in which to store correspondence, but instead, my whole local folder menu disappeared, and then a few moments later the inbox and trash folders reappeared, but nothing else.

    Pop or IMAP mail account?

  • Why not both trash and archive for gmail? & Save draft?

    1. For gmail that I'm through with, I understand I can go to settings and choose to have it either trashed (moved to trash file) or archived (moved to all mail file). But, why an either/or choice? Why can't there be both icons for trash and archive? They are pretty different functions, each useful.
If Mail is incapable of this, is there another email app that can do it?
    2. How do you save a draft of an email?

Setting it to archive is a one time step that is applied to the account.
    Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calenders>
Sellect the gmail account you want then  slide "On" the Archive Messages feature on this page.
From the inbox you do have the the 2 options you're after and both take 2 clicks. One is the archive icon (an arrow pointing into a box. This send mail to the All Mail folder and the 2nd is an arrow label on a folder. The second option is the move function and with 2 click a message is trashed from your inbox.

  • My startup disc is full and I want to find out the size of trash and junk in mailbox before dumping trash & junk

I have gotten this message saying that my startup disc is full.
I know I need to dump the trash can on my home screen and I have done that.
I know that there is both trash and junk in my mail app that I will dump also but I am curious as to the size of the trash and junk in mail but I don’t see how to find the sizes.
Its nice that the Junk tells me that there are 739 messages but it doesn’t say what the size of all of them is.
Do you know how i can see what the file sizes are for trash and Junk in Mail?
I know I can just delete them and see how much this yellow bar decreases but that seems like a crude way to see what the file sizes are that I have deleted.
If you have an answer for how to find out the file sizes of the Mail trash and junk I would like to know how to do it.
I have the latest version 10.9.4 on my Mac Air.

do you have the Size Column selected in the View pulldown?

  • How to get Drafts Mailbox at the top rather than in ON MY MAC

My wife is switching from Entourage to Mail and I can't get her set up the same as I have been in Mail for years. At the top of the left panel I have Inbox, Drafts, Sent and Trash, with sub listings for each of my mail accounts, followed by SMART MAILBOXES and ON MY MAC. My wife has the same except for the Drafts and its sub listings. Instead, she has several Drafts Mailboxes (1 for each email account) under ON MY MAC. How do I get Drafts at the top as I have it?

Then it may be that by some action, some existing Drafts mailboxes were found, and Mail moved them to the On My Mac section.
Has she yet in Mail composed a message, clicked on Save as Draft before sending, and checked to see if that has been saved in newly created Draft mailbox in the location you expected?

  • Mail app and Yahoo mailboxes organization

I set up the Mail app to access my Yahoo account and it has created an interesting way to organize and manage my email. I'm wondering if it is possible to change how this is set up.
So this is how it is set up:
Lion gives me my Inbox, Sent, and Trash folders. Then Yahoo gives me my Notes and their mailboxes, including Bulk Mail, Draft, Sent, Trash, and my converstations.
Notes, Bulk Mail, Draft, and my conversations work great and as expected. However, it is weird having 2 Sent folders and 2 Trash folders. If I delete messages in the Mail app, it sends it to the Trash located under Mailboxes. If I delete a message using another method (Yahoo website or iPhone), it shows up in the Trash folder under Yahoo. The same goes for the Sent folders.
Also, I have that same Yahoo account set up for my Mail app on my iPhone. My mailboxes are shown the basically the same way on my iPhone:
I am wondering if there is any way to get this whole system a little more organized. I would like all deleted messages to go to the Trash under Mailboxes and the same for Sent. I don't want the Sent and Trash folders under Yahoo at all. Then I'd like to have the Draft and Bulk Mail folders up under Mailboxes if that is possible.
If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

Thanks for your reply!I almost got it to work.
I disabled my mail account on my iPhone first, then disabled it on my Mac.
Then I went to Yahoo's website and deleted the extra folders that my Mac generated and used.
I enabled it again on my iPhone and it appeared to work great. Didn't generate any extra folders.
Then I enabled it again on my Mac and it created the extra folders and began using them again.
Once a message is placed in a folder, it will show up on Yahoo's website as well.
This is a little confusing. My Mac is creating the blank folders and anything I do on my Mac is reflected in those folders on Yahoo's website. The extra folders you see in the Mac app are the changes made using Yahoo's website.
For example, if I begin composing a message in the Mail app and save it as a draft, it'll be stored in the official Drafts mailbox on the Mac, but at Yahoo's website, that draft isn't stored in Yahoo's official draft mailbox, it is in an extra folder called Drafts. And visa versa if I create a draft using Yahoo's website.
What did I do wrong? Are my settings not configured properly?

  • How can I select all messages in Inbox, Trash and/or Bin in one go to delete them.  I currently have 3000  unwanted messages in my Bin box and wish to delete them without having to individualy select them 50  at a time.y

How can I select all messages in either my Inbox, Trash and /or Bin in one go to delete them all in one go.  I currently have 3000+ unwanted messages in my Bin

Click on the inbox then Edit>Select All (if you are using Mail, if not you'll have to tell us which mail program you use) repeat in other mailboxes as needed.

  • Emails missing from drafts mailbox

If I use "Save as draft" when composing an email the drafts folder indicates that it contains 1 email. However when I click on that folder it is an empty list. The only way I can access the email is to search all mailboxes (eg search for the subject line of the draft email). The draft email appears in the search results.
I have tried rebuilding the drafts mailbox but it has not changed anything.

The emails are coming in, but they disappear after they have been moved to the folder
So you have sort of rules to organize your mails by moving them to different folders? Does this happen to all clients?
As suggested by DJ above, please check your view/filter settings first:
    Outlook 2007
Reset view; View-> Current View-> Customize Current View…-> button Reset Current View
    Outlook 2010/2013
Reset view; tab View-> button Reset View
Please have a try and feel free to post back with any findings.

  • 'Drafts' mailbox does not appear automatically

I am a new user of the Mail app. I have asked a similar question in another category of these Discussions, but have not had a useful answer, so I am trying here.
If I start typing a new e-mail message and then 'Save' it, a 'Drafts' mailbox almost never appears until I go to the Mailbox tab and select 'Go to favorite mailbox > Drafts'. Just once or twice, but apparently at random, a Drafts mailbox has appeared spontabneously, but very rarely. Why is this? Shoul;d it not appear spontaneously?
This behaviour (or non-behaviour) seems to be independent of whether I choose 'Store messages on server' or not in Mail Prefetences.

Thanks for your quick reply, Matt Clinton. I have three mail accounts: Btinternet (IMAP), gmail (Google IMAP) and the mail account of the college where I teach (Exchange). It is the BT one that I almost always use.
Neither gmail nor my college account has a Drafts folder, Btiinternet, however, has many folders, one of which is called Draft (without the 's' at the end). I have tried ctrl-clicking it, but there is no 'Use Mailbox For' there.  All there is in that menu is New Mailbox, Rename Mailbox, Delete Mailbox, Export Mailbox, Erase deleted items, Synchronize  Btinternet, Take Btinternet offlinw, Edit "Btinternet" and Get Account Information.
    What can I do now?

  • If email message is in sent mail as well as in draft mailbox is it a duplicate or do I need to send it agin to make sure it went through

if email message is in sent mailbox and also in draft mailbox is it a duplicate that happned by mistake or do i nee to send it agin to make sure it went through?

I've seen emails get stuck in the Drafts mailbox even after they have been sent. Check in the Sent mailbox to see if it has really gone out. If not, send it again. If so, delete it from the Drafts mailbox.
    Best of luck.

  • Copy of email remains in Draft mailbox after successful Send

I am using Snow Leopard.  An odd behavior has recently appeared.  On some (but not all) occassions, when I send an email from an IMAP account, after the email is sent successfully (confirmed by a copy in the Sent mailbox), a second copy appears in the Draft mailbox.
The account is a gmail account (but @plessthan.com rather than gmail.com).
Of note, about a month ago (well before this started happening), I converted from POP to IMAP.  To do this, I set up a new IMAP account in Mail, then rendered the POP account inactive.

    Hello,
Did you try to go into Mail's preferences (in Accounts) and uncheck to Store draft messages on the server under the Mailbox Behavior tab ?
