Trash basket not emptying since upgraded to Snow leopard
I am experiencing difficulties emptying my trash basket. Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.8.2) the process to delete unlock or lock files in the trash can do not empty.
If you're on Mountain lion it would make more sense to post in that forum.
However, anyone who wants to help will need to know what's in the Trash and where it came from.
Note that the collective Trashes of all connected volumes are aggregated in the Trash in your Dock. They can only be emptied if the volume they're on is mounted on your Mac.
If you've trashed files from Time Machine you may well have corrupted your entire backup. See Pondini's articles and FAQ/Troubleshooting in that case; http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html

URGENT: Bluetooth not found since upgrading to Snow Leopard
I have a MBP which I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, running 10.6.2.
Since upgrading I no longer have bluetooth on this machine.
I have tried the following without success:
1. Installed temp monitor + smcFanControl to cool chipset down (temps at 39C)
2. Reset PRAM + NVRAM
3. Restarted (with / without power adaptor), Shut down, etc
4. Installed latest drivers and software
5. Deleted bluetooth*.plist
6. tried changing sleep mode to hibernatemode 0
Bluetooth does not appear in the system preferences, or the toolbar or anywhere on the system. Bluetooth diagnostics does not locate it either.

If you have not tried resetting the SMC... give that a try. Be sure to follow the instructions for your specific model as they vary from machine to machine:

Bluetooth disappearing is not that uncommon and resetting the SMC usually brings it back. -
App installers do not work since upgrading to Snow Leopard
Can't upgrade Flash. Can't upgrade iTunes. When I get to the "Install" button in the installer app, I click it and it does nothing. Anyone else?
FIGURED IT OUT.
Font conflicts. (I use FontCase app to manage my fonts.) I deleted Monaco.dfont, Geneva.dfont, Helvetica.dfont, Keyboard.dfont, LastResort.dfont, and LucidaGrande.dfont, and everything works again.
This came after I phoned Apple Support, ran disk permissions repair something, and reinstalled Snow Leopard. Hope it helps someone else. -
Volume keyboard shortcut not working (since upgrade to Snow Leopard)
The following keyboard shortcut commands, when I have upgraded to OS 10.6 a couple of months ago, have stopped working:
Command-Up Arrow
Command-Down Arrow
(They control the volume of the iTunes application itself)
Apparently they still exist according to: http://www.apple.com/itunes/how-to/shortcuts.html
I have the newest version of OS X and itunes, respectively: 10.6.2 and 9.0.2Try adding every drive to Spotlight's Privacy Pane in System Preferences>Spotlight, wait a few minutes & remove them, then wait a few hours/days to see if it's better.
Though slower, in the intterim, you might try...

Hi,
I'd appreciate your help on this, maybe I just chose a stupid set-up to begin with.
I use spaces and have allocated Space 1 to Lightroom and Space 2 to Photoshop to always have a clear backdrop when switching to Photoshop.
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, when I choose 'Edit photo in Photoshop', Photoshop (the frame) opens fine in it's correct space, but the picture does not show. When I click on Window and on the respective picture window the picture shows but all reverts to Space 1 and I have the Lightroom window in the background so that I need to extend the Photoshop window to create a less distracting background.
Any idea why this happens or any suggestions for a better set up?
Thanks heaps
ClaudiaClaudia
I am running PS CS4 as an external editor for my Lightroom 2.5 installation on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and I have exactly the same 'Spaces' setup as you (i.e. LR and PS each are in their own space) but I am not experiencing the behaviour you are experiencing.
If it's of any help, you might try fiddling with the window behaviour in PS to see if it changes anything? In the "Window" menu I have selected the "Application Bar" rather than the "Application Frame".

Adobe Illustrator preview icons changed since upgrade to Snow Leopard
all of my Illustrator files preview icons have changed since upgrading to snow leopard. They use to have the Ai logo. Now they have what looks like the Postscript icon.
I believe preview icons are controlled by the OS so not sure what to do. Have done all of the usual run disk permissions etc.Illustrator CS4 is installed on my computer and works fine. Double clicking the file will launch or open in Illustrator. It's only the preview that is wrong and a bit of a nuisance if I am looking for an illustrator file

Problem with Cisco VPN since upgrade to Snow Leopard
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard a couple of hours ago I can no longer open up my CiscoVPN application (version 4.9.01) which I use to connect to my network at work. When I try now I just get an "Error 51: message"
*Error 51: Unable to communicate with the VPN subsystem.*
Please make sure that you have at least one network interface that is currently active and has an IP address and start this application again.
I can still connect to the network if I use Parallels and use the Windows VPN client - but that's not really the point! I've tried the popular suggestion for Error 51 errors in the past (typing "sudo SystemStarter restart CiscoVPN" via Terminal) which doesn't work.
Any ideas or help appreciated.
AcculessI was able to get it working without re-downloading the client (4.9.0.1.0080 was already installed). I noticed that System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN had been removed during the upgrade to snow leopard, so I pulled it back off of a Time Machine backup. Restoring that directory and doing a 'sudo /System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN restart' seemed to fix things up.

FireWire 400&800 (IMAC Core2) NOT WORKING after Upgrading to SNOW LEOPARD!
My FireWire 400&800 (iMAC Core2) are *NOT WORKING* after Upgrading to SNOW LEOPARD!
Any Solutions?
Thanks!
--Frank Strallents
www.SHOCKPROOFX.comI'll try your suggestions....Thanks!
Recently, I try to Re-install Snow Leopard, unfortunately, still unsuccessful.
The Mybook Icon only appears if it is connected via USB.
After using Firewire and getting used to the speed...USB 2.0 is like a Corvette racing a Veyron...lol
I am not upset on these issues, it is normal for new OS to have these problems...unfortunately, even OSX is not invincible.
I'm sure Apple/Steve is on every Programers A*s for a solution.
I still think APPLE'S OSX will still be the future of Operating system!
For now, still waiting for the patch and hopefully soon.
Suggestions are still Welcome for a Solutions:-)

Can't "save as" .bmp since upgrading to Snow Leopard
Okay, I'm using CS2 and since upgrading to Snow Leopard I have been unable to "save as" .bmp once I choose save, Photoshop crashed
Well CS3 is officially "unsupported" (but still works OK). But CS2, given the under-the-hood changes to the OS, is doubtful that it will work at all. Or as you are experiencing, works sometimes and crashes on certain things. Best to consider an upgrade.

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, twice I've been unable to get my screen saver to release back to my working desktop. Anybody else have this issue?
For a few users, since some point in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, there has been an occasional problem when trying to wake from sleep if you have Bluetooth enabled for the keyboard, Magic Mouse, Trackpad, etc.
The solution for me that worked 100% of the time was: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.
For me, the problem ran intermittently through 10.6.something, all of 10.7 and now, finally, seems to be resolved in 10.8.2. -
Real Player not working properly since upgrade to Snow Leopard
Ok, before I start, I know RealPlayer is not an Apple product, but I am not premium Real content subscriber, and I don't expect to get any support from Real on this matter.
I only use the player to listen to BBC Radio which is vital to me as I live outside the UK.
The problem is that since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, the streaming bit rate won't go above 21kbps which obviously reduces the sound quality. I checked what it was doing in Activity Monitor, (version 11.0) and it is not 64bit. Could this be the cause of the problem?RealPlayer is a 32-bit application, but that shouldn't be a problem. It should run on Snow Leopard as well as it did on Leopard. It plays BBC Radio at 45Kbps on my Mac. Do you have the latest version (11.1.0)? Check the speed settings in its "Connection" preference.

Mail Notes "Hidden" after upgrading to snow leopard
I have a ton of "notes" in my mail program and after I recently upgraded to snow leopard, none of them appear under my "Notes" mailbox. However, they do still exist in the my inbox when I search for them (since whenever a new note is created or edited, it appears as a new email). So in other words, my notes are not gone, they just don't show up in my notes box. Does anyone know how to make them reappear in there? Thanks
Quit Mail and try trashing the ~/library/caches/com.apple.mail folder then restart, empty the trash and relaunch Mail. Might work. I've had success with this when the trash is "hidden"

X11 not starting after upgrade to Snow Leopard
Hello, sorry if this is trivial stuff for all of you, but I am really having trouble sorting this out; I'd be grateful if anyone can help. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.2), did the Combo update as suggested in www.apple.com, but I cannot get X11 to run since the upgrade (I did re-install X11 from the optional installations, btw). The symptoms are that when I try to run any X11 application (such as xmgrace, gnuplot or xfig), or even if I click directly on the X11 icon in the Utilities folder, the X11 icon keeps jumping in and out of the dock; I reproduce below what shows up in the console. Needless to say that I have read through it, but cannot make any sense of what is reported there. I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem, since all I have done is to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard following the standard procedure. Should I perhaps do a clean install?
Thanks in advance.

Your user account may very well be hosed.
Here is some info on how to replace it:

I believe the easiest way to accomplish this is to first repair your user account permissions
using the SL install DVD. This won't fix the account, but it will make sure the user data in the
account has the correct permissions before backing it up for transfer later.
Mac OS X v10.5 or later: While started from the Leopard Install DVD, a user's home directory permissions can be reset using the "Reset Password" utility.
I suggest using Carbon Copy Cloner or equivalent to backup and restore your account data.

Weather widget not working after upgrade to Snow Leopard (Australian areas)
The weather widget is not working since I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
The feed seems to have changed from Accuraweather or something like that to Yahoo!Weather, and Yahoo!Weather seems to have problems (at least concerning weather data feeds from places in Australia).
I live in Kempsey, New South Wales (Australia). I can't input that address, because it won't validate. When I try typing my address in the widget autocompletes with "Kempsey, Austral Eden, New South Wales (Australia)" (FYI, Austral Eden is a rural parish near Kempsey, but Austral Eden is not in Kempsey and Kempsey is not in Austral Eden). That address will validate, but there seems to be no weather feed: ie. I don't get any information displayed in the widget.
The nearest address that will validate correctly is "Port Macquarie, New South Wales (Australia)". The Yahoo!Weather feed doesn't provide any information about that, either.
I can get a weather data feed for Canberra. But Canberra is 800 kilometres from here.
I think I want to change back to AccuraWeather. How would I do that?I'm annoyed by this as well.
I was planning on buying my father the Snow Leopard upgrade for Christmas, but there is no way he'll want it without a working Port Macquarie weather widget. ( I'm not kidding! )
I've looked at the AccuWeather widget as well, but it is really ugly!
