Trash - Deleting a single file in the Trash

Hello,
I am a new Mac user and I am having trouble deleting selected items already located in the trash-bin.
In windows i had the option of selecting either one or many items in the trash and "permenantly" deleting them. It seems that the mac trash-bin can only delete everything at the same time with out the option of deleting selected items.
What can i do to select and delete a single item with out emptying my whole trash can??

You cannot decide what to trash and what not to. It either all goes or it all stays. Windows has that feature because it doesn't trash things but has you put them in a recycle bin so you can decide later what to do. Seems stupid to me but then again I don't use Windows too often. (thank goodness)
I do not recommend that you use the trash as a storage location. Do you store things in the trash can at home?
If you are unsure as to whether to throw something away or not just put it in a folder labeled with an appropriate name until you decide to keep it or not. Many a file has been accidentally trashed and lost forever because it was stored in the trash rather than a proper location. Just my opinion.

With the file on your Desktop try restarting.
Can not select a single file in the trash can to delete if the trash can is multiple files.

I don't believe so and I'm not sure why you would want to.
Items should not be placed in the Trash unless you intend to delete the items. The Trash is not designed for and should not be used as a temporary storage location.

If you delete a large file from the mac hard drive does it also remove it from time machine on external hard drive

As the others say, no, the backup copy won't be deleted immediately, but it will eventually.
If you want to delete all backups of a selected item, such as for space or security reasons, see #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

How to delete a local file in the presentation server. As we do using 'delete dataset dsn' in application server. How can i achieve this. My requirement is after uploading file using gui_upload, i want to delete that source file. Please let me know, how can i achieve this.

I want to Pick the Single file from The source Directory

My Scenario is File to RFC .. I'm getting the files in the source Directory.. File names are SENDER_(TIMESTAP).XML .. but the problem is... When ever Files are available in the Source Directory Immediately XI was picking all the files at a time.. But I want to to Pick a single file at a time..
for Making this what we have to do.. After Processing the first file then only my Sender adapter should pick the next file... (even though Multiple files are available in my Source Directory)

the other option was use Adapter specific attributes in the Sender Communication channel..
or
while droping the files ask them to drop using time stamp in another directory and an external validation is required .. and after validation push single file to Source directory using batch file..
i.e use a batch file using run time operating system or make that batch file to run at OS level ..
where the batch files needs to validate the time interval of the file and needs to push a single file to the source directory.. where from there we can directly pick a single file and process..

How can I delete hidden video files from the iPad?

How can I delete hidden video files from the iPad? These files were created on my MBA and when I changed the media type to iTunesU and then copied it to my iPad via iTunes, they did not appear. I can see them using 3rd party software, but they don't have delete functionality.

Interesting note: I can see the files when I use the search function, but when I tap either file, I return to my home screen. The video does not open. I can transfer the file to my MBA, and it plays fine, but I cannot figure out a way to delete them.

Yes, if it is something that was installed as part of OSX to start with. If you're missing Onyx, well that isn't part of Apple's software and you'll have to get it from the source.
Depending upon the significance of the application there are ways do a custom installation of software rather than the whole operating system. I use a much older operating system version so I cannot be very reliable on the specifics.

If its the notification message from within the ePrint app itself, then it is only a notification and a copy of the file does not get stored in the app.

Is it safe to delete all PREVIEW files in the FINDER's "All my files"?

I have > 7,000 files showing in the PREVIEW section of the Finder's ALL MY FILES. I want to clean up unnecessary and duplicate files - most are photos. I just want to make sure that if I delete these preview files it will not remove the original file.

ALL MY FILES is exactly what the name implies — it is a list of all of your files. They are not duplicates (unless you see more than one copy of the same file in the All My Files list). If you delete something from that list, you are deleting the one and only instance of that file.

Want To Pick a single file from the Source Directory

My Scenario is File to Proxy. Legacy team is generating Bunch of files in a same directory.But i want to pick single file for each poll interval. after process teh firts file only Sender Adapter should pick and process the next file .
At prsent , My scenario is picking all the files in a single shot and all the files are processing parellelly. . But all the files are related to one Process Order So, out of bunch of files some few of files are processing successfullu. remaining all teh files are getting " Proces Order is locked by another User" Error message . This was happeing only for the parellel processing. And from technical point of view , In sender Communication Channel i have used Quality of Service is Exactly Once in Order and i have mentioned the Queue name also. .
Evel legacy team is generating Bulk of files i want to pick a single file only, suppose if theer is no chnace then at least i want to process single file at a time after finishing the one file processing , then only i want to go for the next file
For this, is teher any paremeters need to be set , please suggest me,.

Are you using the Additional Source Files options?
What you can do :
1) Select Processing Tab > Processing Sequence> By Date
2) You can introduce a delay between two processing by using a Thread.sleep(msec) statement in some UDF in your mapping...this will ensure some delay between two processing: Re: Delay in MM possible ?
3) You can select the Connect Mode option as Per File Transfer.....keep it as the last option....

How do I setup RMAN not to delete archive log files on the source database so GoldenGate can process DDL/DML changes?

I want to setup RMAN not to delete any archive log files that will be used by GoldenGate.   Once GoldenGate is completed with the archive log file, the archive log file can be backup and deleted by RMAN.   It's my understanding that I can issue the following command "REGISTER EXTRACT <ext_name>, LOGRETENTION" to enable to functionally.   Is this the only thing I need to do to execute to enable this functionally?

Yes this is the rigth way using clasic capture.
Using the command : REGISTER EXTRACT Extract_name LOGRETENTION.
Create a Oracle Streams Group Capture (Artificial) that prevent RMAN archive deletion if these are pending to process for Golden Gate capture process.
You can see this integration doing a SELECT * FROM DBA_CAPTURE; after execute the register command.
Then, when RMAN try to delete a archive file pending to process for GG this warning appear AT RMAN logs:
Error:     RMAN 8317 (RMAN-08317 RMAN-8317)
Text:     WARNING: archived log not deleted, needed for standby or upstream capture process.
Then , this is a good manageability feature. I think is a 11.1 GG new feature.
Tip. To avoid RMAN backup multiples times a archive pending to process, there is a option called BACKUP archivelog not backed 1 times.
If you remove a Capture process that is registered with the database you need to use this comand to remove the streams capture group:
unREGISTER EXTRACT extract_name LOGRETENTION;
Then if you query dba_capture, the artificial Streams group is deleted.

Delete unused vi (files) in the project

I know that may be an old topic, but I still have no better solution.
In my project are not only the vis but other kinds of data, for instance png, mp4...
I didn't use the Auto-populating folders (instead the virtual folders) in the project structure. It' s quite sure that in the folder on the hard drive there should be many vis and files, that are no longer used in the project.
Also some VIs are called dynamically in the main vi, which can not be saved as using the save hierarchy function.
I'm not expecting to delete all the VIs, which is not used. But at least to tell which VI is still in use.
Any suggestions and ideas?

I made a basic tool vi that compares the 'AllVIsInMemory' output with a recursive directory listing. Everything that wasn't in the AllVIsInMemory was written to a listbox. The delete was performed manually. I also did output the number of 'suspected' files, so I had an isea how clean my project folder was. What I didn't implement but what would be an easy improvement is filtering by extension (so limit to vi, vit, ...).
I don't have this vi with me right now, but it's easy to do your own.
