Trash icon gone

Normally there's a trash can icon on the sidebar of iPhoto, it's no longer there now for some reason, can anyone help me locate it?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Trash icon disappearedO

Can someone tell me what happened to my trash icon? I've been dealing with the "Deleted Messages" folder issue (if it's not active/checked in mail behaviour - via preferences), then I cannot delete messages. Now I've noticed that the icon is gone in the sidebar. I used to be able to see what was in the trash can before the specified time of deletion (one week).
    Thanks for any help!

Mine is gone too ... I just spent hours to transition all my accounts from Entourage to Mail, but I am not so sure if this was such a great move after all ...

  • Unable to delete by tapping trash icon

I just bought 3Gs a couple of days ago and have been deleting my emails by just tapping the trash icon while the message is still open. Today, I noticed that it's not working anymore. The icon recognizes that I'm tapping it but it's not doing anything. I have to go back to inbox, tap edit, and delete from there. Is there a way I can go back to deleting emails by just tapping the trash icon? Thanks!

I am having precisely the same issue. The trash icon highlights but does not animate, and nothing happens to the message.
Issue goes away upon a regular restart (ie, do not need to hold down home key for a hard restart), but within an hour or two, it recurs and persists until the next restart.

  • Applescript: File remains "open" even if trashed and gone

re: simple text file written in AS alone, outside Finder:
    1. I write to a file like this:
set thisFile to open for access aFilePath with write permission
      — do stuff
      close access thisFile
As long as "do stuff" executes OK., the close access is hit and I can use the file over and over. I have no problems with this script. But:
    2. If “do stuff” hits an error, it leaves me with an unusable file. Even when the file is trashed and gone (Secure Empty Trash), if I ever try to use the same file name, AS will first create the file, but immediately pop an error that that file is already open before I can do anything else. The system is remembering the file name and flagging it as open (apparently).
    3. So I try to close it:
          set thisFile to file aFilePath
          close access thisFile
and I get no error on the first line but a  “ ... [correct path to "thisFile"] cannot be made into type file" error on the second line.
Question 1: If "thisFile" is a file on the first line, then why not on the second? Why does "close access" which works in item 1 above, fail here?
So any new file name works as long as "doStuff" works, but I can't use any file name that didn't close the first time through. I cannot seem to close the file after the fact, even when it's been trashed.
Question 2: how do I tell the system that this file is not open or does not exist?
    Great thanks for your help!

I'm guessing that this is happening to you while running the script in the script editor.
When a script is run in the editor it is the editor that actually has the file open and if the script exits without closing the file the editor gets hung.  Any open files are automatically closed when the application exits but as it is the editor that has the file open the file is not closed when the script exits only when the editor exits. So one work around is to close the editor and restart it.
However the correct way to handle this is to the file work in a try on error block. See Introduction to AppleScript Language Guide specifically the section Close access, the command used to close an open file, for more details.
    The basic idea
    set aFile to choose file
set fp to open for access aFile
    try
      --file reading and writing here
    on error e number n
--deal with errors here and don't resignal
    end try
    close access fp

  • How do I change the "trash" icon to "archive" icon in email on my iPhone using iOS7?

How do I change the "Trash" icon to "Archive" icon as the default setting in email using iPhone iOS7?

That is very much dependent on your Email account.
Go to Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars->Accounts->Your Account->Account->Advanced->Move Discarded Messages Into.
    Choose Archive Mailbox.
It may not be there if its not supported by your email provider.

  • When i drag an item to trash, the pop up message to confirm delete appears. But my trash icon does not show it being full.

    Hi
IN my HD/ desktop, whenever I drag an item to the trash, instead of the usual trash icon appearing "full" (ie with trash inside), I get a message confirming me to empty trash.
How do I revert to the usual of the trash icon appearing full and allowing me to drag files out and then decide.
    Thanks!

  • The trash icon is missing from the sidebar in iPhoto.

In my sidebar when on iphoto I often used the trash icon there to delete photos quickly.
All of a sudden I notice it is no longer there.
How do I put it back please?
    Thanks.

In my sidebar when on iphoto I often used the trash icon there to delete photos quickly.
I'm not sure what you mean by "quickly", that's the only way to trash from iPhoto.
Have you tried clicking on the little arrow to the left of "Recent"?

  • Can't use Trash icon in Mail in iPhone after upgrade?

    Hello all:
Have two mail accounts on my iPhone, both IMAP. Before the switch to 5, one was POP.
At that time I could delete an email from either account by simply hitting the trash icon at the bottom
of the screen, while the email was open.
Now, tapping the trash icon in an open email brings up a d-box which reads: "Unable to move
messages. The messages could not be moved to the mailbox trash."
Next version: From the Inbox pane for either account: I hit Edit and select the emails I want to delete.
Then I tap the Delete button, which reads "Delete (1)."
Get Delete Message bar - Click the bar.
Same message appears, saying "unable to move.." etc.
My only option is to use Inbox > Edit > select email for deletion > Hit Move button > Under "Move this message to a new mailbox",
select Trash as destination > Mail is sent to Trash.
I do have my Mail prefs set to delete the Trash contents after one week.
But is there a way with fewer steps to do this? What does the Trash icon do now, if not move to trash?
    tia

I assume I only have to recreate the one that will not send mail...? The other account works fine.
Should I simply recreate it, with the same settings?
It is currently a POP account; lives in the server space for my website. Is that the issue?
Or if I reconfigure it as an IMAP - how do I determine the settings for that?

  • Trash icon in sidebar?

Does anyone know how to put the trash icon in the sidebar in finder?, i feel it's logical to be there instead of dragging all the way down to the Dock.

In , I think, 10.3???, you used to be able to put trash in the menu bar of the Finder window, but I don't think it's possible in Tiger.

  • HT1386 why won't my ipad charge from my computer - my iphone does! and where has my facetime and contacts icons gone?

Why won't my ipad charge from my computer when my iphone does? also where have my facetime and contacts icons gone?

A computer USB port does not provide enough power to charge and run the iPad at the same time but it will charge it if the iPad is turned off.  It will take about four times as long to charge than with the iPad charger.
The Contacts icon may be inside a folder, such as Utilities.
There is no Facetime icon.  Start a Facetime link from a contact.

  • Where is the trash icon to delete photos?

The just-published iPad Portable Genius book by Paul McFedries clearly states: To delete a photo, follow these steps: 1. Tap Photos in the Home screen. The Photo app appears. 2. Locate the Image you want to blow away. For example, if you know the photo is part of a particular event, open that event stack. 3. Tap the doomed photo. The Photos app opens the photo. 4. Tap the screen to reveal the controls. 5. Tape the Delete button (the trash can icon). The Photos app asks you to confirm the deletion. 6. Tap Delete Photo. The Photos app tosses the photo into the trash, wipes its hands, and returns you to the photos.
My problem is that the trash icon doesn't appear on the screen! It appeared one time a few days ago, so perhaps a downloaded app is causing the glitch. Any ideas, anyone? Thank you so much.

Photos created on the iPad or detached from emails (for example) can be deleted via a trashcan icon. But photos synced from iTunes have to be deleted from the synced albums (and not directly from the pad)
