TRASH ICON

All of a sudden my Dock Trash icon does not indicate there is any trash. It indicates empty even when there are files there to be deleted. As far as deleting files in Trash it still works fine. How can I get the indicator back?

Only Prosoft Data Backup but I have been using a free trial for that program for two months and only purchased it yesterday and updated the software. Wouldn't think that would be the problem but, on the other hand, I don't have any idea of what the cause could be.

  • Unable to delete by tapping trash icon

I just bought 3Gs a couple of days ago and have been deleting my emails by just tapping the trash icon while the message is still open. Today, I noticed that it's not working anymore. The icon recognizes that I'm tapping it but it's not doing anything. I have to go back to inbox, tap edit, and delete from there. Is there a way I can go back to deleting emails by just tapping the trash icon? Thanks!

I am having precisely the same issue. The trash icon highlights but does not animate, and nothing happens to the message.
Issue goes away upon a regular restart (ie, do not need to hold down home key for a hard restart), but within an hour or two, it recurs and persists until the next restart.

  • How do I change the "trash" icon to "archive" icon in email on my iPhone using iOS7?

How do I change the "Trash" icon to "Archive" icon as the default setting in email using iPhone iOS7?

That is very much dependent on your Email account.
Go to Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars->Accounts->Your Account->Account->Advanced->Move Discarded Messages Into.
    Choose Archive Mailbox.
It may not be there if its not supported by your email provider.

  • When i drag an item to trash, the pop up message to confirm delete appears. But my trash icon does not show it being full.

    Hi
IN my HD/ desktop, whenever I drag an item to the trash, instead of the usual trash icon appearing "full" (ie with trash inside), I get a message confirming me to empty trash.
How do I revert to the usual of the trash icon appearing full and allowing me to drag files out and then decide.
    Thanks!

  • The trash icon is missing from the sidebar in iPhoto.

In my sidebar when on iphoto I often used the trash icon there to delete photos quickly.
All of a sudden I notice it is no longer there.
How do I put it back please?
    Thanks.

In my sidebar when on iphoto I often used the trash icon there to delete photos quickly.
I'm not sure what you mean by "quickly", that's the only way to trash from iPhoto.
Have you tried clicking on the little arrow to the left of "Recent"?

  • Can't use Trash icon in Mail in iPhone after upgrade?

    Hello all:
Have two mail accounts on my iPhone, both IMAP. Before the switch to 5, one was POP.
At that time I could delete an email from either account by simply hitting the trash icon at the bottom
of the screen, while the email was open.
Now, tapping the trash icon in an open email brings up a d-box which reads: "Unable to move
messages. The messages could not be moved to the mailbox trash."
Next version: From the Inbox pane for either account: I hit Edit and select the emails I want to delete.
Then I tap the Delete button, which reads "Delete (1)."
Get Delete Message bar - Click the bar.
Same message appears, saying "unable to move.." etc.
My only option is to use Inbox > Edit > select email for deletion > Hit Move button > Under "Move this message to a new mailbox",
select Trash as destination > Mail is sent to Trash.
I do have my Mail prefs set to delete the Trash contents after one week.
But is there a way with fewer steps to do this? What does the Trash icon do now, if not move to trash?
    tia

I assume I only have to recreate the one that will not send mail...? The other account works fine.
Should I simply recreate it, with the same settings?
It is currently a POP account; lives in the server space for my website. Is that the issue?
Or if I reconfigure it as an IMAP - how do I determine the settings for that?

  • Trash icon in sidebar?

Does anyone know how to put the trash icon in the sidebar in finder?, i feel it's logical to be there instead of dragging all the way down to the Dock.

In , I think, 10.3???, you used to be able to put trash in the menu bar of the Finder window, but I don't think it's possible in Tiger.

  • When backing up using the G Drive on using time machine my wife drops the icon into the trash icon on the loading dock.  I told her this was not correct.  Who is right?  Thanks in Advance.

    Folks,
I found my wife dropping the icon of her backup file into the trash icon on the dock.  She had just completed using Time machine and when to uninstall the Gdrive.  I told her this was an erroneous practice.  She disagreed.  Who is right?

I can't find the Trash icon anywhere on my mac pro. I needed to clean some startup desk space and thought to start with emptying the trash but I can't find it anywhere. • Where is the trash icon to delete photos?

The just-published iPad Portable Genius book by Paul McFedries clearly states: To delete a photo, follow these steps: 1. Tap Photos in the Home screen. The Photo app appears. 2. Locate the Image you want to blow away. For example, if you know the photo is part of a particular event, open that event stack. 3. Tap the doomed photo. The Photos app opens the photo. 4. Tap the screen to reveal the controls. 5. Tape the Delete button (the trash can icon). The Photos app asks you to confirm the deletion. 6. Tap Delete Photo. The Photos app tosses the photo into the trash, wipes its hands, and returns you to the photos.
My problem is that the trash icon doesn't appear on the screen! It appeared one time a few days ago, so perhaps a downloaded app is causing the glitch. Any ideas, anyone? Thank you so much.

Photos created on the iPad or detached from emails (for example) can be deleted via a trashcan icon. But photos synced from iTunes have to be deleted from the synced albums (and not directly from the pad)

  • Trash icon missing in 4.2 mail

Anyone else having this? Yes, I have the right choice in mail account settings (Gmail). Must be a bug. Tried a hard reset. The trash icon showed up for a split second when I launched mail but then reverted to the All Mail icon.

I have two mail accounts, me.com and a local provider who uses gmail. Initially I had the trash can visible on the me.com account and a file which indicated "archive" on the local provider account. I found that archiving a letter put it in the mail folder on Google. Turning off archive on the local provider account gave me the trash can on both accounts.

  • Trash Icon Disappeared on Desktop

And when I went to find the Lib plist file to delete it, I had no Library Folder in my user folder. This was repaired with Disk Utility. So, something's wrong. Any ideas? Aren't I supposed to have a Lib Folder in my User Fole

Your Library is there.  Apple, in their infinite wisdom, decided to hide it in lion.  To make it visable again, launch Terminal (in Utilities), and copy paste the following line into the terminal window:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Hit return and relaunch the finder.
Show User Library Directory in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
If you want to keep it hidden but you need to get to it use the Finder Go menu, Go To Folder...,  type ~/Library, and click the Go button.
As for the trash icon, it never was on the desktop (since OS9 days, or you use some third party utilities that can put a trash can on the desktop).  It on the right side of your dock.

  • Trash icon missing in email

My trash icon has disappeared when I have email open.  On the top are the are the icons for "junk" (thumbs down), reply, reply all, forward, notes, etc but the button that had the trashcan is suddenly missing.  Any hints how to fix this?

My reply and forward icon was missing as well as trash icon on my email too.  Powering off the phone seemed to fix the problem.

  • Can't find the Trash Icon in email

How do I get the trash icon to show on my email on the upper right side?  Right now it only shows the "Move to another folder icon,"  the arrow for reply, forward, print and the icon for writing a new email.  My friends Ipads show these 3 icons and also the trash icon.
I can't find any settings to display this icon on my email.
    Thanks...

If you are using the apple built-in mail app , there is no trash icon.
There most certainly is a trash can icon in the preinstalled mail app on the iPad. I mentioned gmail to the OP because I'm pretty sure that gmail uses an archiving system and no trash can icon appears in that account. Or at least I think that is how gmail on the iPad works.

  • Moving mail to the trash icon does not delete the mail.

I am using an iPad with OS Ver 7.0.2. Moving mail to the "Trash" icon does not delete the mail from the Inbox. This is not a problem on my iPhone. Settings are the same on both devices

First thing to try is a reset: hold the on/off button and the hold button at the same time until the iPad completely shuts down, then turn back on.
May not work, but often resolves simple app issues.
