Trash is empty but it doesn't look empty???

Usually if trash has something in it then the image of the trash can has some screwed up paper in it and when it is empty there is no paper but for some reason mine won't have an empty trash can image after I deleted all the trash.

It was the same when I had a new dock so I switched it back but I found out that there is a file in there only visible in list view for some reason; I tried getting its info when I found it and I believe it is the trash inside the trash because its picture was the trash picture but I have not been able to get info it since. I can not empty it out of trash but if I drag it to out of the window, which it gives a white block sign telling me it can't, it disappears out of trash until I put something in trash. Because I know the trash is in my Home folder I tried dragging it there but it does the same block.

HT4904 Help. I have an older 20 inch iMac and had Lion running on it but the internal hard drive died. I'm trying to install Lion on an external drive but it doesn't look like Lion Recovery is supported. I have Leopard installed but am stuck.

My 20inch iMac's internal drive died and I'm trying to re-install Lion on an external drive. If I could get the Lion DMG file I think I'd be all set but am not sure how to do this. It doesn't look like the Lion Recovery feature is supported in my older iMac. And I have Leopard installed on the external drive but there's no AppStore to download the Lion DMG file.
Any suggestions?

Without a bootable backup/clone or a Time Machine backup of your previous Snow Leopard installation or a saved copy of Lion's install app, you'll have to upgrade your Leopard volume to Snow Leopard (10.6.6+) so you can waste another hour or more DLing the Lion thing again.

Should be straight alpha, but it doesn't look like it

I'm using Keylight on some footage in AE CS4, and then bringing it into PPro CS3 for the rest of the editing process. In AE, one of my roses (a light one chosen to accentuate what is going on) looks like this:
I have "Unpremultiply" checked in Keylight, and here are my Output Module Settings for the render:
As far as I can tell, I should be doing everything right to end up with footage with straight alpha, but in PPro, I get the famous "premultiplied-alpha halo" anyway! At first, the halo was only appearing a second or two after I would click in a new spot on the timeline - that really got my attention that it was something other than just bad keying on my part. I actually tried to catch a screen capture during that moment before the halo would appear (to show the before-and-after), but by the time I decided to try that, Murphy's law had kicked in - now there is no delay and it looks like this all the time:
I have several roses that I have processed in the same manner, and they all have the halo, but it's of course not as obvious if the rose itself and/or the background footage is darker.
I'm pretty new to keying and alpha, but I thought I had done my homework, so to speak. What other settings should I check?

Thanks for the suggestion - it basically worked. PPro CS3 doesn't appear to have an effect called "Alpha Key", so I used "Track Matte Key", specifying the track where I put the alpha clip and selecting Luma Key for the setting (setting it to Alpha Key didn't do anything, and it was clear that the "alpha" AVI was not an alpha channel per se, but just a regular video clip with a B&W representation of the transparency). I also don't see any effect called "Minimax". Anyway, I followed your suggestion as best I could with the tools I have - you must be using a newer version of PPro. I can indeed see about a pixel or so that would be better if it was more transparent - I suspect your Minimax suggestion would have taken care of that. But this is definitely usable.
Key point for those reading this later: You have to choose "Straight" for the Color setting when you render by this method, even though you get some strong warnings that dissauded me the first time I tried it (I thought they were saying I had to include an alpha channel in the stream, not the method I was about to use).
One more question: When rendering the separate alpha clip (essentially just a grayscale video of the transparency) to be used as the luma matte for the Track Matte Key, does it matter whether the Color setting is Straight or Premultiplied? I can't imagine that it would matter for that clip, but if there is a subtle difference, let me know.
I have no idea why I can't get it to work with an embedded alpha channel, though - surely hundreds or thousands of people use these two programs to handle RGB+Alpha video files. For this time, I'll re-render my roses (twice for each rose to get the two streams - this will give my CPU a workout!) and use this workaround, but if someone has any insight about the more direct method, please enlighten us all.

You bought this idiotic app (sorry, no offense, but just reading the description and reviews I cannot believe anyone would spend money on such a thing) iTunes. When you buy via iTunes, the app developer sees none of your payment or personal information - the purchase is processed entirely by Apple and the developer only knows a sale went through (sort of like using Google Checkout with an online vendor - the vendor knows the sale was processed, but never gets access to any of the payment information).
So, the only way this vendor could take money from you is if you entered financial information in the app itself or otherwise sent it directly to the developer.

you can always manually check which version you're on and apply any updates available by going to firefox > help > about firefox - the latest version at the moment is firefox 17.0.1.
in the past week we have seen some similar reports of malware trying to imitate firefox updates (see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/942851] for example). so just to be on the safe site, please do a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and/or a different tool like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes].

Trash doesn't look empty after delete - looks like there is trash

New to Leopard, empty trash (nothing in folder) but icon still looks full.

FWIW, in list view the file shows up (for a second, it says alias) then deletes and the trash is empty.
It then reappears in a few minutes which leads me to believe its some sort of system process.

I also have a TIGER BACKUP IMAGE and a LEOPARD INSTALL IMAGE on an external HD and wondering if I can use CCopy to erase my MBP HD and just use that although I would want to change the root user name. Its things like LOGIC being better in Leopard that I like but things like this (BUGS) that make me leary...
Its too bad I can't access the TIME MACHINE as on the LEOPARD INSTALL bootup (external) I ran time machine for a few days and it backed up the whole computer. Although, I want to get rid of this bug more so seeing how I just bought an iPod (my first) and synched it up. Actually, it was after this process and deleting some songs NOT authorized for this MAC that this problem started to come up.

My trash takes too long or doesn't empty at all.

I've tried the terminal option. I have trash preferences set to Secure Empty Trash everytime I empty the trash.
I updated to Mountain Lion two weeks ago, and I've been having trouble with my trash quickly emptying like it used to.
SHORT VERISON: I'm deleted shows, movies, documents, and photos (over 5,000) from my external 1TB drive. The progress bar moves slowly or not at all (I keep force quitting because it takes over three hours to delete a few files).
LONG VERSION: I have no backup of my laptop. Time Machine used to backup my laptop to this external, but it stopped deleting older version, so I had to manually delete the oldest version tonight (the only version for some reason, it doesn't show any others) to get it to try and back up, but then it said it was going to take 11 DAYS to do the backup, and I'm pretty sure I don't have enough room anyway, I even tried excluding huge files that I would be fine with losing.
So I decided to go through and delete a bunch of things on external to free up space, (and trust me, it will free up A TON of space... if they ever delete), but (and I've been experimenting) Finder can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to delete a single half hour episode, to never deleteing it at all.
I also can't move things to my laptop because I'm trying to free up space there too. I got a video camera and didn't realize that I'd downloaded over 110gigs of videos from my new camera. So I have no room on my laptop, but that won't delete it from the external anyway, it'll copy it I think.
I need to get this multitude of large and small files off my external before I can backup my laptop. But.... I can't do it! I have no idea what's wrong! It's driving me crazy. Normally some extreme form of emptying the trash worked in the past, but not now... nothing is speeding this up, or working at all.

I got to the Trash It! Link and tried that. It worked! I still don't know why Finder was acting up like that. But I'm glad to have all of this space (I also thought I would let Time Machine run for a bit while trying to figure this out, and it was up the 42 days as the estimated time).

The "disk" is your startup volume, which is usually called "Macintosh HD" (unless you changed it). Your iTunes media files (such as song files), and basically everything else, are stored on that volume (unless you changed it).
You should create some free space as soon as possible, because the system (OS) and applications use free space to write temporary files as part of normal operations. If there is very little free space available, your system may start to bog down and feel slow because it's not running efficiently.
You can empty whatever is currently in the Trash by doing a click-hold (or right-click) on the "waste basket" icon in the Dock, and selecting Empty Trash. A good place to look for files you may no longer need is your Downloads folder. There is usually a link to your Downloads folder in the sidebar of a Finder window. (The folder itself is located in your user home folder.)
You can see how much free space you currently have by selecting Macintosh HD on your Desktop (or in the sidebar of a Finder window), and selecting Get Info from the File menu. You can also right-click on it and select Get Info from the menu that comes up (or hit Cmd-I on keyboard). The Info window shows Capacity and Available for the volume. Available is the free space. It would be best to keep Available at least 10% of Capacity; getting it to 20% or more would be better.
If you can't free up enough free space by deleting things you do not need anymore, you should get an external hard drive and save some your files there. That's actually how I run my iMac; most of my user files are stored on external USB and FireWire drives.

Do you have any restrictions for purchasing apps on the phone? Settings > General > Restrictions. If you have a Mac computer or another Apple device can you purchase things in the App Store using the same Apple ID on something else?

Thanks for your help Karen Serena. Obviously, it appears in the list of printers and scaners on the left, into the "Print and Scan" with system preferencies. Then i click it , it appears on the right, then i click "open scanner" below the name and opens a window writing "open device failed". When i connect the scanner, it makes a sound but that's all...the scanner is dead, even if I push any button...Also there isn't any window opened to prove the function of the scanner, only is shown in the scanner list, that's all.

Thanks, but, using the "free" version of Reader, there is no opportunity to open nor import the xml data - the menu options do not exist - there is no import listed.
If we try to open the xml file directly, then we get an error - something to the effect of "unsupported file type, or the file is corrupted".
I just noticed in my Pro version that there is the command File ->Form Data ->Import Data to Form... command. Is this what you are referring to?
What do you recommend? Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to purchase a few copies of Acrobat Pro for the reservations people to use? I was hoping that the free version of reader would do it, but perhaps not?

Need an app to edit and sign word documents (sign with stylus)! Notability let's me sign but doesn't pull up letter head, quickofficepro let's me edit but not sign. Looking for an app that does both

I am looking for an app where I can edit word documents as well as sign them. I am a physical therapist whose looking to cut down on paper work. Someone types my evaluations and then we print them out for me to edit by hand and then they go back and make the corrections on the computer then w print them and sign them to send off. Recently I have begun using apps where I can pull up the document and edit it thru quickofficepro or through cloudon, but I cannot sign them using a stylus pen. I also have notability which I can use to sign the documents, but it doesn't save the document as a doc, it's either a PDF or rtf. Also, in notability, it doesn't pull up the letter head for our company which is a template with our logo on it. So I need an app where I can both edit and sign my documents by hand using a stylus. If someone could provide me with any relevant information I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Try to backup your iPhoto library and lanch iPhoto while holding the option and cannoned keys down - repair permissions and if needed rebuild the database
