Trash not working properly in Mavericks

Hi, everyone! I think this may be related to (or maybe even a major cause of) my remarkable vanishing disc space. I have a macbook 2GHz intel core 2 duo early 2009 at work, running Mavericks 10.9.5. It's served us well for many years but is starting to act really strange, just in the past week. It claims that my hard drive (120 gigs) is nearly full, and I cannot seem to make any space, no matter what I do. I moved quite a lot of stuff off yesterday when I did a Time Machine backup, and at that point it didn't recognize that I'd removed all these iMovie files. It was telling me that I had over 30 gigs of movie files on the machine, plus 50 gigs of extra. Well, today, after a lot of troubleshooting, it does register my movie and music files correctly. But "other" has gone up over 80 gigs! Also, whenever I trash a file, I get asked for my password. I then hear the woosh of the file going into the trash. But, when I open the trash, nothing is there. And the commands to empty and secure trash are greyed out.
What I've done so far: I repaired permissions several times, and also verified the disk. I followed Dominic's instructions on booting into safe mode. I tried to relaunch the finder, and I reinstalled Mavericks. Finally, I booted into recovery mode and repaired permissions and verified the disk from there. And just now I checked permissions for users. I am the administrator, so far as I can see. Will check this again. I will let everyone know if doing this gets the trash working normally.
I do think that, if I could fix the trash, at least part of my 'memory' problem would be solved.

Did "Everything you know" include deleting deleting com.apple.ichat.plist ?
This one holds the windowing info.
Did you try Messages > Window Menu > Messages or it's keystrokes ?
It is possible to create this state in working version
Double click any listed chat in th Side bar and it will open window (with current contents ) as your pic.
You can then Close/hide the regular window and just have one chat.

Photoshop not working properly in Mavericks 10.9.1

So i have major issues in Photoshop since upgrading to Mavericks!! Ive seen this all over the internet, but didnt find a real definitive answer to the issue, so im just going to post my own delema in the hopes we can find a solution.
Since the "upgrade" to mavericks 10.9.1 my photoshop does not work well at all. Using my CS6 is a headache. All of my brushes "stick", that is, they fail to react to me if i want to, say, change a brush size, opacity, or even change a tool. This happens after about 3-4 minutes of masking, or painting in general. It even sticks when using the polygonal lasso tool. i'll have to click away from my project, say, to the layers palette, or off photoshop altogether, to re-stimulate the tool to react again. Strange. This slows down my workflow to a crashing hault. I like to use shortcuts to keep my work going and the sticking(as i am calling it)reverts me to go through a series of on-the-fly remedies in order to correct a problem that i never had to begin with, that is, until the lovely Mavericks update came out and was installed.
Additionally i had the other popular "white wall" photoshop problem, but after downloading a plug in that i saw in a similiar forum, it appears to have fixed that issue. Drop down menus would go blank, or white, creating a white-wall effect where you couldnt read any of the windows. The only solution was to auto save your work frequently, then shut down Photoshop and start over again. Thank god for that plug in. MAvericks you suck.
any one else having this problem? questions? comments? You godda be out there becaue ive literally read hundreds of issues like this.

I use Photoshop cs6, with a BRAnD NEW imac late 2013 w/ 32G RAM, 256G flash storage. i use a Wacom intuos5 touch tablet, and notice a connection between these key elements:
Wacom tablet
Mavericks
Photoshop

I am having a different problem, using Mavericks (10.9.3) with Photoshop CS 5.1 and a Wacom Intuos 5 tablet (6.3.8-2).
I used to have the white menu problem, but lately I'll be working along and then suddenly my brush tool, say, will turn into the hand tool, but still shows the brush in the tools palette. If I click on another tool, no matter what, it continues to show the hand tool. I can't brush with it anymore, so it isn't just a display problem. I'm often in full screen mode, and if I hit the "f" key to return to standard screen mode, the normal grey background switches to blue, hitting it again switches it to black, and if I keep hitting the "f" it will continue to cycle through the colors.
I've tried quitting Photoshop and relaunching, and would still have the hand icon. In the past, I would restart the cpu; today, I walked away and when I returned (within 10 minutes, probably) it was acting normally again.
This scenario plays out sometimes once a week, sometimes multiple times. I can't find anything relating to this particular issue doing a google search. Any suggestions?

Mail not working properly since maverick

My phone is constantly sendig me updates that I have new mail ... however this maverick update has now stopped almost all incoming mail to my macbook ... none of these are GMAIL accounts like I have been reading about but are hotmail accounts... Please help any feedback would be great ...

Do a backup.
Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

After I upgraded to Mavericks my Epson 5000V scanner is not working properly. I can scan by going into Preference/PrintersScanners to operate the scanner, but I cannot find the output.

After doing last Mavericks update, Messages is not working properly

Since yesterday, after doing last Mavericks update, Messages is not working properly - the Dock icon is not bouncing nor showing any number for new messages. Very annoying, since I usually have Messages on background while working and I now i don't realize if people is chatting me unless I open the messages wondows.

Check System Preferences > Notification is set for Messages
In Messages > Preferences > General Section change the Sound option for Message Received.
Restart the app and test this sound is (still) playing.
Place app in background an iMessages "yourself" form your iPhone.
Does the sound Play ?

Where can find safari 7.0.6 to download to my mc because maverick is not working properly?

hi, i downloaded the new safari version (maverick) and it did not work properly so i had to take my mac to the store and for some reason the two times that i took it there it was working but as soon as got home did not work. when i opened safari it did not let me search because it was blinking all the time. i couldn't see the screen i was in. it was on and off terrible. i had to restore the system. i lost everything i had. i forgot to back it up. now i have an older version of safari and i really don't want to try to download maverick again an by the way my mac got so slow it was a mess. so i'm trying to get a newer version of safari, i can't find it. i have safari 6.1.6 now . how can i get at least version 7.0.6? thank you!

You can have the newer Safari 7.0.6 only if you install Mavericks, see the link I've provided earlier.

IPhoto does not work properly in os mavericks

The Instant slideshow format only displays one slide and the sequence then terminates. Using "Select All" and playing the sequence causes the sequence to display in reverse order. Bizarrely any asssociated music plays the right way.
Even more curious, Slideshows proper play normally.

i was trying to work on texteditor to code a simple html page but its not working properly like the shows only two color on the background that are green and black
i dont know whats the issue but it use to work fine in mountain lion
i have even tried to use color code still it didnt work then i re-installed the os but the same problem again!
is there any special setting ?

Charger is not working properly

Hi, after 10.9.2 update my charger is not working properly. First I thought the problem was the charger itself had died, but then I saw a pale light. I searched here and found that resetting SMC could be a solution. It worked for a while, but now the problem is back and resetting again doesn't work. I also resetted PRAM and nothing happens. The light is now green, but battery status says it isn't charging.
What else can I do? Mavericks updates are a headache that has already made me format my laptop – because of another problem– and I'd love to avoid it. Thanks in advance.

If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them. Let them deal w/it.

YouTube is not working properly of my Safari. Can you help fix it?

So for some reason YouTube is not working properly on my Safari. I don't know why but its normal for Chrome. Can anyone help me fix this? Here is what is happening.

This looks like an emerging issue with YouTube. But, to make sure:
1) Quit safari (command + q with it open)
2) Open finder. Click on "go" on the top menu bar, then click on "go to folder." In the prompt that comes up, type in:
~/library
3) Pull the caches folder to the trash. This will ask for your password
4) Open Safari. Click "Safari" by the Apple logo, then click "reset safari." Make sure everything is selected, then reset safari.
5) Try again.

My built in isight camera is not working since loading mavericks

Can anyone help me please? I can't seem to get the isight built in camera to work on my 27'' imac since I installed Mavericks. First noticed this when using skype but it also doesn't work on facetime either.
Any suggestions.

If restarting Mac does not resolve the problem, use Disk Utility in OS X Revovery to repair your startup disk.
If the camera is still not working properly, follow Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 suggestions.
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD." Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

LiveFonts not working properly

Hi, my livefonts is not working properly.
When i apply to the words, some alphabets doesn't show up.
Anyone got suggestions how to rectify the problem?

The LiveFonts work in Livetype.
Still having the problem of Livefonts in Motion
Example, if i apply "Wick" style to the word "Hello", on "H llo" appears.
The letter "e" is missing.
Any suggestions on rectifying the problem?

Try this: Open up her Home folder (house icon), click Library then Preferences. Locate com.apple.softwareupdate.plst (I don't have my Mac handy so I can't double-check the name; that should be correct) and move it to the desktop or trash, then try running Software Update again. Also try running Software Update while logged in as another administrator.
