Trash & Strange folder

Hi All,
I have an iMac 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running Leopard 10.5.8.
The last 2 days I have had a folder in my trash called "Database" inside that folder is a TextEdit Document of 88MB - when I go to empty it I get the message that it could not be emptied because the item "Database.sqlite3" is in use.
Any ideas on what it is and how I get rid of it?
All help appreciated
Thanks
Morris

Restart and then empty the trash.

I tried to do the instructions Adobe gave me but when
I put in the disc that came with my mac and hold down
C when it restarts it takes me to the screen to do a
    fresh install.
At that point go to the Menu & select Disk Utility - I can't remember exactly which menu but you should be able to find it easily... there isn't too much there
I went into the disk utility through the Apps folder
and for somereason the option to repair isnt
highlighted and it wont let me click it. I tried to
repair permissions/verify but it doesnt change
anything. I looked at the info and it says the volume
can be repaired, but it wont let me.
You can't Repair the disk the system is currently running the OS from - That's why you have to boot from the Installer disk (or some other start-up disk). Repair Disk addresses directory structure issues - totally separate from what Repair Permissions does.

  • Strange folder

A folder from my desktop is showing up at the top of my finder windows and I have no idea why it is there or how to get rid of it. When I throw the folder from my desktop into the trash, the folder image in the finder window turns into a question mark. Anyone know why it is there and more importantly, how to get rid of it?

    That worked, Barry! Thank you!!
And, WZZZ, I was able to do both of those things, but it didn't help me get rid of it. It just showed me the information of the folder it was linked to. Thank you, though!

  • Strange folder appears out of no where under Macintosh HD

Today I noticed a strange folder with a strange name "㉠ㆨ䞦າ" under root folder appeared in one of the macs in my computer lab, initially i thought it could be someone messing with the computer, but It's zero k in size and the date says it was created this afternoon when no one was in the lab. Is it possible if this folder could be created by a "virus" or some random program?

No. Not a virus. Most likely something created by some Adobe app, which is notorious for that kind of thing. Delete it and forget it.

  • Gmail and Trash, strange behavior.

I have a Gmail account and set up push mail with iPhone.
Everything works fine but today I found out something very strange:
If I delete am email on my iPhone (i.e. when I read the message I press the trash bin) the message is deleted both in my iPhone and Gmail.
BUT: it is not sent to the trash folder in Gmail it is simply obliterated (deleted forever).I had no idea of this.
    Can anyone confirm?
I have selected to delete emails from the serve when I download them from my main PC but Gmail stores them in the trash folder, whilst iPhone erases them for good.
    Thanks for your help.

Yup, same thing with me. Why in gods name they thought that replacing delete with archive and then still allow users to obliterate their emails like its inspector gadgets secret mission orders, i will be damned if i know. But who cares, this is obviously an over sight and we just gotta raise enough **** like the rolling stones did when they got the hells angels to do security for their concert to get apple to change it.... so have a biscuit and sit down and watch the movie... pop corn anyone?

  • Strange folder associations to dvd player

    Hello!
I have very strange problem, some folders are associated within DVD Player. For instance when I click in dock on folder download, it shows me the fun and then when I press the arrow to see more items in folder it opens a DVD Player?
Same problem I have in spot search, when I search for folder name, it shows it correcly, but when I click on it, it opens a DVD player.
Please is there a way how can I reset this strange associations?
    Thanks a lot!

On any one of the folders that exhibits this behaviour, click on it ONCE in Finder, then press 'command-i' to open the 'get info' window.
Scroll down the dialogue till you see the 'name and extension' field.
    What does it say exactly?
Underneath that field, is there a field that says 'Open with' ?

  • ICal,Trash,Desktop Folder

Force the Trash to empty using Terminal
This technique uses a Terminal command to fore the Trash to empty. Perform the following steps in the order specified:
Launch Terminal, located in your Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities folder.
At the Terminal prompt, type the following command exactly as written:
    sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
    Note that:
There is a single space after each of the terms sudo, rm, and -rf in the command.
Assure you have typed the command exactly as written before proceeding: typographical errors in this command can have dire consequences, including erasing your hard drive!
    Press Return.
Type your Admin password when prompted, then press Return. The files in the Trash are now deleted.
Can someone help me get back my files and folder PLEASE

Hi, Michael. It sounds as though you may have put things in the Trash that shouldn't have been put there, and maybe that's why you had trouble emptying it. That could easily explain your present difficulties, too.
Another possibility is that your hard drive directory is damaged; that too could account for both your Trash-emptying problem and your current missing files. You didn't tell us what other steps you had tried before using the Terminal to empty the Trash, but as a next step from here, I would suggest starting up from your Tiger installer DVD and running the Repair Disk routine in Disk Utility to repair your hard drive directory.

  • Strange Folder Icon Quirk

The past few days I have been having problems with some of my folder icons. When I am in icon mode, sometimes my Generic Apple folders are Tiny. I Command-J to get the adjustment window and scroll through different sizes. It seems mostly at standard 48 x 48 the folders shrink to 16 x16 size although other icons remain normal. At 44 x 44 and 52 x 52 everything seems normal.
This happens with folders in windows AND on my desktop. Additionally there is one single Icon I have assigned to a hard drive that shrinks at 44 x 44.
I have also noticed that occassionaly the back and forward arrows on a window change to little dots.
I have run permissions repairs and checked for viruses.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks
    TAK

    GTAK,
Your Finder preferences file may have become corrupted....
Go to your Home/Library/Preferences/ folder and locate the com.apple.finder.plist file. Trash it, and then see if the Finder isn't working correctly (you will have to re-setup your Finder as you liked it before your problem).

  • Strange folder appearing, named with Korean character 삔

Quite often I have a folder turn up at the bottom of the list on my HD. It is labeled with a Korean character 삔 meaning "sprained" (as far as I can work out). There's never anything in the folder so I just trash it.
It's no big deal but it's a curious aberration.
    Anyone have the same issue?

I also have that folder. Every time I delete it, it appears several days later. What's going on? anyone could solve this problem?

  • Strange folder names

my wife just started using a new Panasonic camera and all of a sudden her uploaded photos in iPhoto '09 are arranged in folders in the "Originals" folder that have very strange alpha-numeric names rather than the date the photos were taken. Does anyone have an explanation and is there any way to get back to "dates"?

They're the date and time of import, and no there is no way to change them without corrupting your Library.
Nor is there any need to, as you never, ever access your files via the Finder and these folders.

  • Trashed Application Folder. How do you reinstall just applications?

      Mac OS X (10.4.2)
    Again,
Somehow I trashed all my application folders from my PowerBook 1.5ghz with a 80 g HD.
And yes I emptied the trash. It was just all the contents from the application folder.
Nothing worse than clicking on all of your Dock items and getting ? over the icon.
The computer works on its operating system Tiger 10.4.2 now.
Computer came with the original Panther Software pre installed but the computer came from Apple, packaged with Tiger 10.4 upgrade, which I installed.
I have tried reinstalling Applications from the original OEM Software and restore disk from both Panther and Tiger and did not have any luck.
I tried just installing the Applications only and not the operating system.
Besides reinstalling all the Application programs that I have; if that works.
I may have to consider doing a clean install ?
As you know, it's about how much TIME one of these solutions or yours, will take.
I also want a clean running laptop !
So there is the issue of a clean install with all the time with the online updates, etc., etc., ...
Versus being able to reinstall just the Application Files Only.
Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
