Trashed images

Unwittingly I have moved all my images from finder into trash not realising that would affect Lightroom.I now want to reorder a book through Blurb from the Book Module and its not possible. Can I reinstate my images????

You have to get the images back somehow. Here are some things I would try, in order:
Look in the Recycle Bin to see if they are there
Restore from camera card
Restore from one of your backups
If you need to come down this far, then that means you don't have backups of your images (shame on you), then you need to download and install and run something called an "undelete utility", which may (or may not) be able to recover your photos. There are free ones available on the internet. If you are going to do this, then it is mandatory that you do nothing else on your computer except download and install and run this utility.
If that doesn't work, you may be able to recover small thumbnails of your photos (but not the full size originals). There are utilities available to do that, but someone else will have to point you to them, as I don't know where they are.
Having said all that, it might be a good idea for you to adopt a policy of "once a photo is in Lightroom and you decide it isn't total trash, you never remove it from Lightroom". You also should understand that your photos are not stored in Lightroom.

  • Trashed images showing up in Smart Albums?

I understand that trashed images aren't really deleted, that you have to empty the Trash to do that. That's fine. But how can I prevent trashed images from showing up in my Smart Albums? I would presume there's some Smart Album condition to do this but I can't figure it out. Thanks.

Images in the trash won't show up in smart albums. If you are still seeing the image in the smart album then it is being referenced from someplace else in your library.

  • IPhoto trashed images....

Hi, New to mac so my apologies if this is old hat...
I decided to clear out old files and things from the documents folder in the finder window, not realising that it was my photos and some itunes content... I have since discovered that (of course) the images wont show up properly in iphoto. i am able to see the thumbnails but when i enlarge them i get the '!' as discussed on other threads. After a lot of google-ing and forum reading i worked out how to send individual files back to there original place before being trashed. however i could only get this to work on individual files. I have over 10,000 files and didnt want to sit here for however long it would take to do each one so i dragged the photos to a new folder on the desktop along with the audio (also to its own folder). I have tried the Iphoto restore options on startup but this hasnt solved my problems....
Where do i now put these photo files so that they appear where iphoto is expecting them?
Ive been thinking about upgrading to 10.6.8, ive never done that kinda thing before so is it worth me copying all my photos and audio onto a hard drive and starting from scratch? if so where will i find these folders in finder?
    Sam

iPhoto backs up it's database file - this will not fix your problem.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • Keynote: where do trashed images and slides go

I'm editing a keynote and need to reclaim some trashed slides/images/text. It's not in my trashcan, and KNote doesn't appear to have a dedicated trashcan, at least that I can find. Further, there's nothing in KNote help.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for the help.

If you delete a Keynote file, or any file on the Mac, it is moved to the trash folder.
The trash can then be further emptied to remove files from the trash folder. Finder > Empty Trash
Files that have been emptied from the trash are permanently discarded.
If you are desperate to try to recover deleted files, try Data Rescue 4, not all files can be guaranteed to be recoverable.

  • Trashing images after import

    Hi,
I must be dense, I can't find help with this anywhere. I would like Aperture to move images to the trash automatically after import. Specifically, I import from a folder, and would like that folder to be cleared after every import. I think the applescript brick on the import screen can help with this, but I don't know enough applescript to do this.
    Any advice please?
    Thanks!

The following script should get you started. It asks for the folder and then for the extension of the files you want to delete. Then it asks if you want to empty the trash.
    -- Set folder to delete
set f to choose folder with prompt "Pick a folder:"
    -- Set the file extension
set ext to text returned of (display dialog "What is the file extension?" default answer "" buttons {"OK"} default button "OK")
    tell application "Finder"
    try
delete (every item of folder f whose name extension is ext)
    end try
    end tell
-- Display a dialog window asking whether to empty trash or not
set theButton to button returned of (display dialog "Would you like to empty the trash?" with icon caution buttons {"Empty Trash", "Cancel"} default button "Cancel" giving up after 10)
if theButton is "Empty Trash" then
    tell application "Finder"
    empty trash
    end tell
    end if
I think asking for the folder and the file extension is safer then just blindly going off and blowing away a folder but thats me. You could change it and hardcode in those values.
If you put this in as the Applescript Action in the import window it wil run when the import is finished.
If you try this *I strongly recommend you do this as a test situation at first* Make a new empty library and make sure you import the files into your regular library before trying this.
I offer no warranties, guarantees, or other ees.

If you leave the folder or the extension empty the scripts does bad things. They need to be checked to see if they have a value before calling the finder to delete

  • Is there any way to recover trashed images on the iPad?

I transferred files from my camera to the iPad and unfortunately recognized 2 very much needed options on it.
1 is a trash bin to recover files and 2, a way to delete previously imported files without having to sync up with a computer. Once after the transfer was complete I started deleting individual files and somehow the entire import was trashed. I don't have access to iTunes or MobileMe at work so a backup wasnt possible. What I didn't expect was that the iPad somehow managed to delete all the images from the import but also on the card while tethered to the camera. So now I have to make an unpleasant phone call and explain how this happened.
I hope Apple sees this and will add these features on the 2nd version.

Please log this with Apple Feedback.

  • Corrupted images in Trash that duplicate good images

I have about 12000 images in a managed database (3.5.1).  I had not paid attention to the Aperture Trash for quite a while, but now noted a large number of entries (1200).  Some are truly images I rejected, but some images display as various dots or streaks of colors.  The image information (filename, date, project) in the Trash for the ones I sampled leads me to a perfectly good image in the stated project.  These Aperture Trash entries would appear to be due to some hiccup within Aperture.  As a test I tried to edit one of the entries using Photoshop Elements.  The message stated that the image file could not be found.  I did all of the steps in the Aperture first aid menu (permissions, repair and rebuild) without any effect.
My concern is how to verify that no good images somehow are now only in the Aperture Trash.  Bouncing back and forth from the Trash to the projects is too time consuming. I am thinking of simply being able to list the trash entries by filename somehow separately and then using the search tools to display the good photos within Aperture for comparison.
My recollection is that emptying Aperture Trash will put the files into my user trash.  If so, I could easily sort them in Finder and display using QuickView.
What is the best way of dealing with this?

Fixed it.  Did what I described above with a bit of a twist.  Updated a vault on an external drive.  Then changed the extension from .apvault to .aplibrary.  Opened it and deleted Aperture Trash.  This way the removed items will appear in my user Trash, but only while the volume is connected.  Just a safety measure.  Thankfully and surprisingly, the trashed images were all good images.  I then listed the images in the Finder and used the necessary search criteria in my library to verify their inclusion.  Then emptied the real library's Trash and then emptied my user Trash while the volume was mounted.
Bottom line this was a waste of time since nothing was removed from my good library.  But had to verify.  I don't recall any issues with Aperture, so this is a really strange quirk.  A large number of the items were random ones recently added.  I have been scanning old films to a folder and then dragging groups of newly scanned images directly into a project.  And not doing anything to the images.
All is well that ends well

I have a 2009 MB Pro. I have been trying to do some cleaning of files and discovered that in Finder, All Images, I am experiencing a frustrating problem. I spent a few hours trashing over 4K images and within a few hours, I had as many more.  I did a couple of thousand trashed images and half hour later, more arrived. There are a lot of images that seem off the internet, including gif.s, png.s. Help!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • 17,000 images moved to trash

While doing a routine update to Nik software I closed Aperture, and when I re-opened it all my 17,000 images were in Aperture Trash.  Aperture Help says to control click on trash image and select 'put back'.  But there is no 'put back' to select and anyway I wont do it 17000 times.  I am backed up fortunately, but would like to figure out what happened and if there is a quick way to fix it.
    Any thoughts?

I have the same problem. I just opened Aperture and all photos were moved to the trash. I have tried to rebuild library to no avail. I can indeed 'put back' everything, but I also had many thousands of intentionally deleted photos in there already. It's been a long time apparently since I emptied the trash. I can't distinguish between what was correctly deleted and falsely deleted by a bug. Any suggestions?

  • Images of or from websites autosaving to iPhoto

How can we stop webpages being saved as images to my gf's iPhoto library? They are stored as an Event entitled "Webpage Previews" in Photos which we did not create. Another event is called "Mail Downloads". Yet another is "Images" another "file" and even one called "Cache" which also appears in the sidebar with the label "Hold". They all contain at least one image, some many dozens.
It is almost as if some app operates in the background and collects the images of every website she visits, as well as the images from each website she visits or attachments she receives by email. This is not supposed to happen.
The MacBook runs Leopard 10.5.7 with iPhoto 08 v7.0 as the main photo app. She also has the Canon software for her Canon Ixus 95iS compact on board. Her Safari is v 4.02.
iPhoto 08 was originally running on Tiger, but after we upgraded to Leopard using a clean install and installed iLife 08 after Leopard, she dragged the iPhoto library from the Carbon Copy CLone backup of Tiger including the iPhoto 08 Library previously installed. This library had been copied using Carbon Copy Cloner onto an Ext HDD from where it was dragged back onto the MacBook after a clean install (I didn't do that job, it was done by a long term Apple expert).
Any ideas what is happening? Even more important, how can we make it stop?
    TIA

These are clearly the folders that have the non-deletable files in. If we drag these folders from their location to the Library so they (hopefully) can be deleted using the Safari Reset command, will this muck up the iPhoto database indexing?
Move those and you will trash your Library.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
I’m not sure how the link you provide has anything to do with the core issue here - which is why iPhoto should import these images in the first place. Afters all, I’m using Safari 4 and don’t have this issue.
To the issue of trashing the images:
To trash an Image you must be in the Library - either Events or Photos view and drag an image to the iPhoto trash, and empty it. If you’re in an album, dragging a pic to the trash will simply remove it from the Album.
Can you confirm that how you’ve been trashing images?

  • Unable to empty the Trash in iPhoto.

I'm unable to empty the Trash in iPhoto.  I have uploaded all my photos to iPhotos and then deleted any duplicates.  Consequently I have 33,000 photos in the trash but every time I select 'Empty Trash', the iPhoto app crashes.  Any Ideas?

iPhoto has a big problem, if the Trash is too full. Put only small numbers of photos in the trash, to delete at once.
To solve this, put the images back into an event, and trash them again, in smaller installments, no more than 1000 images at a time.
The question is, how to remove them from the trash, without having to track them down again - if you use the "Put Back" command, all photos will be restored to their projects. I'd suggest you create a new project "MyTrash" and add a new image to it, so that this project will appear as the current "Recent Project". Drag your images from the Trash to this recent project; leave only 1000 or less images in the trash; then try to empty trash. If this succeeds, continue to trash images from the "My Trash" project, until all are gone. You might wish to empty the system Trash in between.

in command link use <f:params to set parameters that will be used in action method ie the id of the record to be deletedRather use UIData#getRowData() to retrieve the actual row object in question. Also see [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2006/06/using-datatables.html].

  • Recovering trashed data

    hi all.
after importing my iPhoto library - and while in a dead sprint to get a presentation together in Keynote - I /believe/ I trashed some images due to a mis-understanding about how to move images around in Aperture.
effectively I think the upshot is that I somehow removed some images of even some Albums by not realizing I cannot move the images to a folder. not sure exactly what I did but I am now in the process of looking through my notes about this and trying to see if there is in fact a great deal of original images that are no longer there.
is there an uber intelligent way to simply search the TRASH or even TIME MACHINE for images that were deleted in some manner within Aperture and to simply re-import them to Aperture and re-organize them as necessary?!
Obviously the ideal situation would be to simply recover the trashed images and then organize them and find out if there are any dupes - as opposed to simply moving forward without trying to recover this data...
Thanks for any help on this.

    Oracle does recover uncommitted transactions.
Please read Overview of Instance Recovery from 11.2 Concepts Guide:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10713/startup.htm#CEGCHJGF which says:

After the roll forward, any changes that were not committed must be undone. Oracle Database uses the checkpoint position, which guarantees that every committed change with an SCN lower than the checkpoint SCN is saved on disk. Oracle Database applies undo blocks to roll back uncommitted changes in data blocks that were written before the failure or introduced during cache recovery. This phase is called rolling back or transaction recovery.

  • Copy photos in aperture trash before deleting?

Is it possible to copy photos from the aperture trash before I permanently delete?  I have been going through 1,000s of photos and I want to have a backup of the duplicate photos I plan to delete before I empty the aperture trash.
Also, if I am deleting duplicate thumbnails, do I select delete version or delete master and all versions.  Years back, iphoto duplicated a 1,000 of thumbnails and I going through all of these, thanks.

What kind of backup/copy do you want to create of the images that you want to delete?
Your regular backup of your Aperture library (a Time Machine backup, or a copy of the Aperture library on an external drive) will include the trashed images in the Aperture Trash.
If you want to export the trashed images to a folder outside the library, you need to remove them from the trash temporarily to be able to export them, I'd suggest to do it this way:
Create a new project (File > New > Project) and call it for example "MyTrash"
Drag the images from the Trash to "MyTrash"
Then select the "MyTrash" project in the Library Inspector and export it; I'd suggest to export it as a new Library  (File > Export > Project as New Library); this way you will backup the edited versions together with the original master image files.
Check if the exported library works. Then put the images in "MyTrash" back into the Aperture Trash and empty the aperture Trash.
Also, if I am deleting duplicate thumbnails, do I select delete version or delete master and all versions.
You need to delete masters and all versions, if you are doing this to save space in your library. But do this only for images that are really duplicates, imported twice into Aperture.

  • Invisible Trash Can in Dock

    Hello,
    OS: Mt. Lion 10.8.5
    Machine: iMac 20" Mid 2007
My 1st time having to ask a question. I can usually figure things out on my own. Anyway, a couple days ago, my trash can icon is suddenly invisible. When you roll over the location it 'should be', the tool tip appears displaying, "Trash" (image).
I've deleted my "com.apple.dock.plist" file in library/preferences and restarted. No luck.
I can still click on where the can should be and the usual trash window opens displaying the contents. I can ctrl+click the area and select "Empty Trash" and it works fine. When i cmd+i and pull up the info window, it shows the trash can icon as it should. There's just no icon in the dock. So weird!!
Any help in figuring this out would be greatly appreaciated.
    Thank you

    Jason
To change the icons in the dock or sidebars - including the trash - the easiest way is to use Candy Bar (http://panic.com/candybar/). To change the whole look of the system check out ShapeShifter (http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/shapeshifter). Depending on the theme you choose you can alter the Apple Icon on Secreen Top Left.
