Trashed my Project in 10.1.1 by mistake

Hi.
I recently updated FCPX to 10.1.1.
By mistake, stupidly, I dragged my project into the trash bin. I did not empty the bin. Undo did not work.
I have since tried my best, but I cannot seem to find the project or open it. In the trash, the shots (.mov and alias) all appear -- and I have tried to put them back on my drive but no project appears in FCPX. I also tried to open a backup of the project, from the FCPX version previous to the 10.1.1. update but I cannot seem to get that to work either. It is greyed out when I try to open it and convert it in 10.1.1.
Does this make sense my issue? Any help would be awesome.
Much thanks!

Did you update the projects and events in 10.1?  If not, put the folders back where they belong and in 10.1 run the update projects and events function in the File menu.

  • Help!  FCP7 went berserk and trashed my project & files

Had a large project open in FCP7.  It's been working fine every day for a month.
Today when I tried to save it I got "invalid command" error message (or something similar).  Now the main project (the FCP icon & project name) has disappeared from the hard drive it was housed on.
There are assorted files in the Autosave Vault on the external hard drive, and a number of files in the trash bin on my Mac.
How do I resurrect this project where my most recent changes are there?  What should I open, and how should I proceed?

Right now it's Friday, 6 July, at approximately 1830. An FCP7 project of mine has "disappeared" as well. It no doubt still exists somewhere, but it is no longer communicating its whereabouts to the OS or to Finder.
Leading up to disappearance, I was working on the project. It was giving me trouble on a simple crossfade so:
    1. I quit out of FCP7
    2. I opened FCP X, saw that the file format (.mp4) was unsupported.
    3. I quit out of FCP X
    4. I re-opened FCP7. . . and it opened a project dated December 15, 2011.
    5. I went to Time Machine, went back to the latest backup . . . and it was dated December 15, 2011.
    6. I went to the Autosave Vault, and the latest version of the project in there was "[project name]_07_03_12_1810". IOO, the latest version is three days old, although I have preferences set to make a backup every 30 minutes.
Query: Has anybody seen this kind of behavior before? If so, is there another repository for backups that I could try?

  • A rebuild removed projects from photos and put empty projects in the trash.

I'm running Aperature 3.2.4 in OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on a MacBook Pro 1,1
I have a large library of 37,000 images on an external hard drive. I have experienced a number of problems which culminated in a corrupted drive and library which I have taken several steps to repair. In an attempt to be thorough, I may be including more info than necessary, but here is my tale.
    1) There have been inconsistencies for some time when deleting photos in the camera (compact flash card uploaded through camera) when importing photos. Occurring more frequently, the photos did not get deleted when I made that selection, most normally with the unmount camera box check. This is a big deal, I adapted by checking the camera when it was unmounted.
    2) I hadn't been emptying the trash in Aperture and accumulated several hundred photos in the trash. Blame it on procrastination and no appearance of pressing necessity.
    3) My camera has developed some problems with the USB port, perhaps getting worn with a lot of use. When importing photos, the camera has recently started disconnecting during the import of photos..
    4) This has resulted in a corrupted drive directory, which I was able to repair with Disk Warrior. It also resulted in photos that were not in the Aperture library. Aperture was no longer able to see those unimproved photos, no matter what drive I was able to copy them to. I resolved the import problem by changing the file name slightly. I assume that Aperture registers filenames before importing, and if the import fails, Aperture is unable to see that the import failed. I have added those files by changing the file names, and my long term solution was to get a CF card reader.
    5) I thought that my problems were solved, but when I opened Aperture today, I got a dialog box telling me that I need to repair permissions, then another about rebuilding the library, and a whole series of failed attempts to do so with a string of boxes suggesting that I quit, rebuild, or repair, all attempts eventually hanging. Disk Warrior tells me that several plists mostly involving changes could not be repaired. After several attempts and restarts, I was able to open the library in Aperture.
    6) The left window was missing a large number of projects, but in photo view, all of the photos and versions were there with the meta data showing a path to the original projects. In the project view, all of the projects were there, but I could not open any by clicking on them. When I viewed the trash contents, there were a lot of empty projects. It was probably a mistake, but I emptied the trash.
    7) I have not closed Aperture for fear that might result in changing those paths attached to photos. Hopefully they are the key to setting things straight.
Is there any way I can undue the trash dump, or otherwise return photos to the appropriate projects? I'm talking about nearly 400 projects, so this is not a minor glitch.

I quit Aperture, which hung up while writing preveiws, so I did a force quit. I restarted Aperture while holding down command and option keys, but Aperture opened directly into library with all projects and photos intact. Oddly enough the projects seem to be in a random order, certainly a different order.
I closed Aperture without a problem
I ran Disk Warrior again, and once again there are damaged property lists that cannot be repaired. There are 9 plists numbered from
    File: "0000000002.plist"
    thru
    File: "0000000012.plist"
    all in
    Aperture Library.aplibrary/Database/History/Changes/
I opened Aperture again while holding down command and option keys, this time getting the dialog I wanted, and I'm now running Repair Library Database.
Well the dang thing seems to be hung at "Repairing Library 100% complete"
I'll give it a while, Force Quit and try again.
Any suggestions? Should I try a rebuild on the next try?

  • Project photos in the trash

In the course of using iPhoto, I acquired duplicate photos. I spent time cleaning those out; however, the copies that I've moved to the trash were used in several projects. Now when I empty the trash, the projects get messed up: no pictures.
I've got about 4,000 pictures in the trash. Of those there are roughly 100 or so that are impacting the projects. Is there some automated way to determine which pictures should be "restore[d] to iPhoto Library"? And if I find the offending photos, then how can I check for duplicates in the library?
Ultimately, if I have 2 copies of a given photo where one is in the trash (and used in a project) and the second is in the library, I want to swap those photos so my projects remain intact.
    Thanks for any help.
    Jeff

    Jeff
iPhoto will never delete 4000 photos at a go. It will crash. SO no matter what you want you’re going to need to put them all back in the Library and delete them in increments of 100 or so.
Many folks speak highly of Duplicate Annihilator for dealing with duplicates.

  • Can I "Un-Trash" an iMovie Project?

I had an iMovie HD project (around 47 GB) that I inadvertently dragged to the Trash. Before I realized what I had done, I emptied the Trash. Gone. However, I realized my mistake immediately and shut down my PowerBook G4.
I have booted up the PowerBook as a firewire target drive from an OS 9 Mac to see if it could see the invisible file(s). No luck.
I used the FileSalvage demo which pulled up a bunch of indvidual dv clips that are definitely from my project. But, at least in demo mode, the clips get all garbled after a few seconds in the preview window.
Another $90 utility, File Rescue, was even more worthless.
Of course, I don't want just .dv clips from my project. I want my project back. Has anyone discovered a way to do this?

I had a similar problem when imovie trashed my main folder after i trashed a sub folder. My second mistake was emptying the trash before double-checking. My third mistake was using my Mac for a week before I tried a data rescue program.
I had very good results with prosoft engineerings data rescue. By the time i got around to using the program many of my files had been rewritten.
Don't wait...you can do a free hard drive search to see what files are available for rescue.

  • Can't Open Project Recovered With Data Rescue

    Hi All,
Stupid me, I trashed a project file and emptied the Trash. I had forgotten that a FCP sequence was referencing the DV files contained in that project package. I had no backup of the DV files (please, no preaching - I learned my lesson).
I was able to recover the project file with ProSoft's Data Rescue, but here's the rub:
The original project was created with an earlier version of iMovie, and was reconverted later with iMovie 6 HD in the same folder. Data Rescue does not seem to recognize that it is a package type of file, thus option-clicking does not list Open Package Contents as an option. Double clicking the recovered project file results in iMovie 6 HD trying to convert the file from the older format, but since the package contents don't seem to be available, or arranged correctly, errors occur.
iMovie 6 seems to know the names of the clips, but can't import them from the older format. I am certain the clips are there (there's only 2), given the project size is 17 GB, which looks about right. Thus I feel certain the clips are in there somewhere.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the iMovie version that was used in the initial creation of the project. not that that would help anyway. Is there some way to recover the clips?

Nevermind, the Thorough Search option in Data Rescue found the files I thought were gone for good .

  • How can I get data back that is in the trash?

I don't seem to be able to retreive clips or other data that end up in the trash. When I click on the trash icon contained in the app I am only given the option of Cancel or Empty. Is that it? Once the data is in there it's gone? Thanks.

iMovie 4 trash is a sort of virtual trash in that there isn't really a location where things are put (like your system trash) but instead a representation of how much stuff you cut out of your project. If you click empty (and never due that in iMovie 4 as there is a bug that sometimes trashes your project) what happens is iMovie rewrites all the media files to get rid of the stuff you clipped or deleted.
So there are ways to get your stuff back. One way is to select any clip and pick the restore option which will reset the clip back to the way it was before you made cuts. The downside of this is that you lose all your edits on that clip and have to redo them over if the one you wanted to undo is several edits back.
You might try this instead. Assuming your clips are all off the clip shelf and now down on the timeline, grab all the clips on the timeline, hold down the OPTION key and then drag them all back to the Clip Pane. As you drag up there while holding the OPTION key, you should see a green circle with a ( + ) in it. This means you are making a COPY to the shelf, not moving them. Drop them on the clip shelf. Now select clips on the shelf and do a restore on them from that location. I think this will let you restore the clips to their original size on the shelf while the ones on the timeline will remain untouched. Hopefully you will find what you lost.
In the future, the best way to edit in iM4 to avoid this sort of thing is to import all your clips normally onto the clip shelf on the upper right side. Now rather than dragging them down to the timeline (removing them from the clip shelf) and editing them, OPTION drag them to the timeline which will make a copy to the timeline rather than a move. Don't worry about drive space. When you make copies, they are not real copies (the media files are not duplicated) but instead just additional virtual copies, so you can make as many as you want with very little impact on drive space.
Now you can edit to your heart's content on the timeline and if you ever make a mistake or need to get back a piece of clip you deleted, the full copy remains safe and unedited up and over on the clip shelf. You can always drag down additional copies if you need to get back footage or if you want to use the same footage more than once.

  • "Save as project" crashes 100% of the time on first save

Hopefully this is covered somewhere but I couldnt find it.
Every time I try to save a new and unsaved little scetch to my external firewire 800 GlyphQ HD (or anywhere) it allways crashes Logic after the save is done.
I can then restart logic and load the newly saved project that just crashed. And everything within the project is saved just fine and works.
When I just save it from there it doesnt crash. Only the first save crashes it.
Any advice or links to similar post appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I can't give you a solution, but the things I'd try to troubleshoot:
    - Perform all the standard troubleshooting procedures (preferences, new default song, ProAppSupport and so on)
    - Try the Save As Project to different drives to see if the behaviour may be drive related
    - Trash the Project manager database and rescan everything from scratch
    - Remove any replacement RAM if you have any, or at least run a RAM test utility
    - Reinstall Logic
...and see if any of that helps or gives you clues as to where the problem might be.

  • Can't Publish Project

Periodically, something within Robohelp appears to get
corrupt with a project. When that happens, the project compiles
without any problems until you click Publish. At that point, a
Webhelp dialog displays, saying "Publishing has been cancelled.
    Access is denied."
The only thing I've found that fixes the problem is totally
trashing the project and starting over. I move the existing project
out of its original folder, then import the .hhc file into a new
project. It retains the settings and the formatting, and publishes
    with no problem.
Is this the ONLY solution? Does anyone know how to fix the
problem AND keep the project? I'm asking because I have over 20
projects, and they ALL went corrupt today. Usually this problem
only affects one project at a time. But today I'm facing an
    afternoon of recreating them all...

    Hi Maureen
Perhaps look for the existence of a file on your side of the
    publishing bit that is named:
thumbs.db. Seems I've read somewhere that this little
beastie can toss a monkey wrench into the wringer.
Note that you may need to perform the following steps in
    Windows Explorer to see it.
    Click Tools > Folder Options...
    Click the View tab
Scroll down and choose "Show hidden files and folders"
DE-select Hide extensions for known file types and Hide
    protected operating system files (Recommended)
Dismiss the dialog and scan for the file. If you find it,
delete it and try publishing again.
    Cheers... Rick

  • IMovie09 won't "duplicate project", erases projects

Hi.  I have been having problems with my iMovie09.  First, whenever I quit iMovie, when I go back to it, my Project has disappeared.  One time it disappeared completely, and then when I re-made the project, and quit again, I came back to iMovie to find that it had kept only the 4-second-long "title page" of my project, and threw out the rest.  In the HD, the name of the project still appeared, but I could not get anything but the 4-second-long version to appear anywhere.  I even copied the original project onto a flash drive in the hopes that that way I'd have a "Safe" copy somewhere, but again, I can't access that copy in any way, shape or form.
Second problem:  Now, I have re-made my project again, and before I quit and have iMovie trash the project again, I thought I'd make a duplicate of the project.  Should be easy, right, since there's a "duplicate project" button right there in the File menu!??  But no.  No duplicate appears in the Project Library.  It still says "1 project".  I looked in the HD iMovie project folder, and again found that the copies appeared there.  But I can't access them.  HELP!!  I've looked at all kinds of tutorials and discussion forums, and no-one addresses this problem with a solution.
I have already tried these "solutions" that failed:  1.  Trashing the iMovie preferences and re-starting; 2.  making sure the movies are in the imovie project folder.  (They are there, and were never moved elsewhere, but that is not helping me the way it seemed to have helped others.....)

I'm having kind of a similar problem. Not all of my photos appear in imovie, when I select iphoto. I've tried flagging them, but when I look at the flagged section in imovie, it tells me I have 0 results. I've tried putting them into an album, but when I select the album in imovie, it tells me that album is empty. I've tried adding them to an event, and, same deal, open imovie, and they're just not there.
I also tried dragging and dropping directly from iphoto - it won't let me, and I tried dragging and dropping from finder - won't let me. I have three scanned pics of ultrasound photos, done identically, one shows up just fine, the other two, not at all. I can't imagine what is different about them.
Same deal with a movie I wanted to make for my mom - I made an album in iphoto with all her pics in it - in imovie, only half the pics in the album show up.
I don't even know how to find out if the photos are jpeg, or what. I try clicking info, but all I get is that useless thing that has "description" and whatnot. How do you get actual info on a photo?
    All advice appreciated.

  • Can not use, or open, a recovered project with extension .rcproject

I had been working in a project for a couple of weeks, I was putting together a bunch of clips from different road trips and re-unions that I had with some friends.
One day I was removing video that I had marked as rejected. I selected the rejected video and tried to send it to the trash by selecting Move Rejected Clips to Trash from the File menu. When trying to send it to the trash my project was erased and iMovie froze right away. iMovie restarted but my project was not there anymore. I looked in the iMovie folder and there my project was, with a .rcproject extension. I made a copy of this right away. I tried to open this weird extension project by double clicking it, iMovie opens when I do this, but my project does not load.
So here's my question, how, if possible, can I review my "recovered" project and keep working on it?

So here's my question, how, if possible, can I review my "recovered" project and keep working on it?
I would normally assume that all of your "resource" pointers were "orphaned" by the removing of the project file. While it is theoretically possible to restore the file to its former location and check to see the pointers are re-instated, I personally would not bother to try and manually correct them if the pointers themselves have been changed. The "forté" of iMovie '08 is your ability to quickly edit content and, generally speaking, I find it easier to re-edit the project material than to manually edit all of the individual project package files.

  • IMovie failing (somehow) to load my project

    Hi all
I'm new to iMovie and was happily editing my first video project with it, until today. The project is medium sized (11g). Symptoms are as follows: iMovie OPENS the project, but DOESNT display it. The menu bar is there, but other than that, nothing's visible of iMovie. I can even bring the movie window to front, if I change the focus to another application (e.g., finder) and then switch back to iMovie. But, I can not edit anything, no button is reacting to any of my mouseclicks. Also, when trying to export the movie or quitting iMovie, I get a crash. I can even create a new project with which everything seems to work as expected...
Now, I'm completely clueless as how to debug this, does anyone have any idea? I guess that I somehow trashed my project file, is there a way to repair it? Should I really just start from scratch?
Any help is greatly apreciated, thanks!
    Bernhard

You probably just need to do a little basic maintenance. Two simple things that are commonly done are: 1) Close iMovie and trash the com.apple.iMovie.plist file located in User (your name)/Library/Preferences. iMovie will create a new .plist file on relaunch. 2) Do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac.
Some other possibilities that can cause crashing are 1) insufficient free disk space for iMovie to operate properly (should have at least 15GB-25GB); 2) conflicting 3rd Party plug-ins (remove them to a different folder to temporarily disable them); and 3) an untidy hard drive or one needing repair (use a disk repair program like Disk Warrior to repair any hard drive problems). One indication that your hard drive might need attention is if you are having crashes or problems with other programs as well. Leave your computer on overnight and your Mac automatically will tidy up your hard drive, but if the problem is more serious, then a disk repair program like mentioned above would be appropriate.
One last thing: If you store your project on an external disk, make sure that the disk is formatted for Apple. Should be Mac OS extended or Mac OS extended (journaled). If it is not formatted for Apple, then you can reformat it using the Disk Utility program on your Mac, but reformatting will erase all data on the disk -- so you will need to first copy your data elsewhere if you want to save it.

  • How do I lock a project?

I'd like to lock my projects when they're completed so I don't accidentally make any changes.
The manual doesn't mention locking projects - can it be done?

Just the project or the event as well? Select the project folder in the Final Cut Projects folder, right-click, and select Compress. Trash the project folder.
There is no way to lock it inside the application.

  • Refused to load project - nearly lost months & months of work

I re-loaded the latest (and 22nd.) version of a DVD SP project that I have been working on for 9 months, as video was shot and included. I had worked on it only half an hour before. As it loaded I got "Sequence FIN-00000001 not found. Cannot proceed without it." I pressed DVD SP's Search button but it couldn't find it and DVD SP stopped the loading process and then quit. End of 9 months work!
That file looks exactly like an FCE render file, but why was DVD SP wanting to use a render file? I tried to re-load earlier DVD SP projects, starting with the latest-but-one but they had the same fault. About 6 versions back I got a more helpful message: "Two Landscapes.mov" file is in an unsupported format. Can't proceed." I searched for this (I recognised it as a video file used by my DVD SP project) and it would not open (it gave an error message). So I re-exported it from FCE and could load my latest DVD SP project. Whew!
What caused it was most likely this. I was doing an operation on the DVD SP project using the mouse and had slight finger trouble. A blank error message box appeared and sat there. I had to force quit DVD SP and then could not re-load the project. Whatever I did must have corrupted the movie file so that when DVD SP looked for it when loading my project it gave up. But there remain two questions:
    1. How could DVD SP corrupt a movie file? It was just sitting there ready to be included in the various assets required for the project. How did DVD SP have the ability to corrupt a movie file - it was simply looking for it to list it in the Assets window, not running it, least of all saving a corrupted version?;
    2. DVD SP should have been programmed by Apple to simply report that the asset was corrupted and continue to load the rest of the project. In such circumstances no good software should refuse to load, so causing the loss of hundreds or hours of work.
A Black mark for Apple, to be added to the other Black Mark about photoshop files (ending in .psd) with transparency causing FCE to refuse to load any version of a PAL project with that file in it, so resulting in much loss of work - a bug which has been known to Apple for over a year, possibly two, and Apple has done nothing about it.
I hope this will help anyone else getting this bug.

As it loaded I got "Sequence FIN-00000001 not found. Cannot proceed without it."
It sounds like you bought a reference movie into DVD SP from FCE and that the render file was either moved/deleted, which could also make the other message appear about unsupported .mov. The re-export took care of the issue it sounds like.
That is one of the reasons I prefer exporting self contained from FC and then encode outside DVD SP, may be worth trying down the road, though it would be good if this type of thing did not totally trash a project like you mentioned.
