Trashing SmoothCam renders?

This is quite fascinating.  I converted a whole show from HDV/XDCam to ProRes ... but before I did this I removed all filters.  I sent the ProRes through Color.  Now it's back in FCP.  I want to add SmoothCam to a bunch of shots.  But!  SmoothCam remembers that I'd used it on the HDV/XDCam clips ... and is referencing something somewhere (even though there is NO SmoothCam clip applied to the new-from-Color graded clips!).
I'm trying to figure out where the SmoothCam analysis info has been saved ... so I can start from scratch, or not use the SmoothCam.
Any suggestions?
Ben

Go to where the clip resides and it will be underneath it with an .mtdf (I think) extension.

  • Lost Smoothcam Renders

ongoing issue, just wondering if anyone has an update / related info:
the issue is fcp losing smoothcam renders in a timeline, and having to continually re-render said losses.
    - smoothcam applied to clips
    - analysis done
    - render completed
so the timeline is now fully rendered.
if i have to render something in the timeline - for example i rescale a clip - any clip, one without smoothcam or any other effect applied - and then command R to render, fcp will lose all renders on all smoothcams in the sequence. this can't be "undone". the analysis isn't lost. just the renders.
i have this problem across machines and versions of fcp (6 & 7) just wondering if anyone has insight or workaround for the bug.

This has been a problem since at least FCP 6. Smoothcam has been the culprit for me, which of course doesn't do any good.

And can I just say that the workaround (exporting each smoothcam clip as self-contained) *****?!! We all know it does.
Of course you can say anything you want to but this is just your opinion, you may not presume to include me in we. Rendering Smoothcam is not a problem for me so it's not a workaround at all; pre-rendering effects a long-standing solution.

I kept thinking a fix was coming. Ridiculous. iOS is the focus now. And I'm seriously looking at Adobe.
    And I loathe that option.
iOS has the media focus, true. Since no one knows what Apple is up to it's easy to grasp at any rationalization. Does Adobe offer a reliable stabilization system that does not rely on rendering? I've never used Premiere (not for anything other than playful frustration) but I'm an After Effects power user and I've pre-rendered stabilized footage ever since motion tracking technology was introduced in AE.

  • SmoothCam Renders Missing

Until Search is my friend again...anyone else find that shots with SmoothCam applied seem to get unrendered without apparent cause? I think it's whenever I re-start FCP.
Also, do i really have to export the shot from the timeline as a self contained movie and bring back in before applying SmoothCam?
    Thanks,
    Ariel.

    1) No, you don't necessarily need to export as QT self contained. You can uncheck the self contained box to create a reference movie., which will work and take 99,x % less space in your drive.
    2) It looks like you are applying Smoothcam to clips originated from the same media.
Go to your scratch disk>delete the file/s with extention .mtdf>follow point 1> apply smoothcam where needed.

  • FCP export of rendered seq: some 'offline media' warnings in exported file

    Hi,
We had an issue last weekend with a file that was exported from FCP:
    - sequence was fully rendered in FCP
    - export Quicktime movie (not a QTref)
    - the exported file had an almost 1minute red 'media offline' warning in the middle of the file
    - when we checked the sequence again at that sport, all the media was still there and all was fully rendered
    - we did another export and all was fine ...
Anyone that had has this issue ?

Not particularly, but have you tried trashing all renders, then re-rendering?
It's possible the sequence was seeing a render file (but not connecting to it on export), when in actuality the clip/media is in fact off-line.
Give it a shot if you haven't and let us know.
Might also fill us in on details about your system and media you're working with.

  • Help. Problems with rendering when using effects

    OS 10.68
Final Cut Pro 7 Studio latest build
    Macbook Pro 2.66 Ghz i7, 4gig RAM
This problem has been plagueing me for 3 weeks and happened suddenly.
Whenever I apply any effects to a clip in the timeline it renders with irregular framerate speeding it up and at end of the clip its black with soundtrack still playing. It seems to be out of sync with audio with the video only speeding up. It happens E=even when I render a standalone Quicktime mov.
What are my options to resolve this issue?
Could this problem be in OS or software? If it is the OS I have no way to reinstall Snow Leopard because I lost my disc.
Would you advise I upgrade to Mountain Lion?
My problem is isolated to rendering only after applying effects. Otherweise the sofware runs smoothly.

How much room is on your capture drive... assuming that it is the same drive you are sending your renders to.  The first few things I'd try...
    1) Trash the Preferences (look around for FCPRescue)
    Then, if that didn't work...
    2) Trash the RENDERS... I believe it is under tools, render manager.  It will force you to re-render the entire sequence, but maybe something in there is corrupted.
This also assumes you've got some quality footage.  I mean, what is the format of the video you are working with?  Hope its not some 'schtuff' you grabbed off the internet.  Is it a quality and usable codec?
Try those first two things if the last is a given.
    Good luck,

  • SmoothCam troubling editing process

Just a few pieces of footage I wanted to be ' smoothcamed'.
Definitely not more than 20 seconds.
It takes hours rendering, and adds a lot of trouble:
    - No autosave during rendering
    - When you want to render audio or graphics, FCP starts rendering smoothcam first
    - Turning off smoothcam clip by clip doesn't stop smoothcam-rendering
Smoothcam is troubling my editing process. What can I do?

Smoothcam will review the ENTIRE clip, not just the short bits you want.
Either capture discreet short clips (no Capture Now of the entire tape) or export the short segment you want to smooth cam then reimport it before sending to Smoothcam.

  • Can't open fcp file-HELP!!!

after working on a tracksheet with no problems for a month it suddenly won't open - at about 27% open, it stops loading and i get general error (41) -
any ideas? HELP!!!!!!! - I've GOT to get in this thing!
    thx!

Its some sort of corruption. You can try trashing your renders.
You can also try saving a copy of your project to your desktop and unmount your drive(s) which contain your media and scratch discs (renders folder, capture scratch, etc...)
Then try to open your copy of the project file. It will probably open and tell you the files arfe offline. Mount your drive(s) and reconnect your files one at a time or in small groups. If its a corrupt media you should get the error when you reconnect it.

  • Playback glitch on export always at same TC

Premiere CS5.5 appears to be causing a glitch/stutter at the same spot consistently. I've trashed the renders and re-rendered, I've un-nested the sequence and re-rendered + recompressed, I've exported to MPEG2 via Pr and via dynamic link using Media Encoder and I still can't overcome this error. I've checked the source footage and the glitch is not present there (source foorage was a tape capture).  All source files are transcoded to DV 29;97 NTSC 4:3 QT files.
The glitch itself is similar to a playback stutter but only at one specific point and always at that point. This glitch is also present on the SD DVD created in Encore. That's how I first noticed the error.
The timeline itself is almost 2 hours; I can export a shorter section around the glitch and that encodes without errors but I don't understand why encoding the entire timeline causes this reoccurring glitch/error.
I'm running production CS 5.5.1 (updated to current version), on a Win7 SP1 64-bit box, 16GB ram. Mercury Playback Engine is disabled since my card doesn't support it.
Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent the last two night troubleshooting this issue and would love to get back to producing something instead of troubleshooting.

Can you offer insight into Harm's comment. Should I avoid QT in favor of AVI for future projects since I'm on a Windows machine?
Quicktime is not a requirement to run PrPro on windows. But if you want full suite-wide feature support and optimal performance, it is highly recommended that you install quicktime on windows. That's not my opinion, it's an official Adobe statement:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html
"QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for QuickTime features"
I've had no problems with mov files on windows as long as I have the latest qt installed. A lot of people hate QT, although I'm not sure if they've actually had any problems with it or if its just part of mac vs pc animosity.... kinda like snowboarding vs skiing or Yankeees vs Sox. Different people prefer one or the other for different reasons and I've been unable to PROVE that one is always superior or inferior to the other. (I'm pretty sure the Yankees are evil though)
But if you're working mainly in SD and exclusively on windows, then I would definately recommend using DV AVI as your format of choice. But I would still say you should have QT installed, eespecially if you're running the production suite on there.

  • PPro CC - Timeline Audio stops working after save of any kind

Guys I have a real doozy here.
    PPro CC updated to latest.
I have a project that until very recently was working perfectly. Something has happened in the last 24 hours that has corrupted it and now there is no audio playback in the timeline (no audio levels registering on monitors either). If I match frame to that audio clip it plays in the source window fine. If I drag that audio clip into the timeline from the source window it plays fine UNLESS it is layered above or below one of the previously existing clips, in which case it does not work. I proceeded to do this process for every audio clip in the timeline (very tedious) and it worked fine UNTIL I saved the project. If I save and then reopen the project the newly minted clips have the same symptoms as the old ones and I am back to square one. I have now tested this process on multiple machines and every time the process is exactly the same. Replace audio, works ok, save and quit, reopen, problems.
Before I discovered the save problem here are all the other things I attempted:
If I 'Replace Footage' it does not fix the issue.
If I 'Offline Media' and then relink it does not work.
If I duplicate the sequence, the new one does not work.
If I make a completely fresh new sequence and pull old any audio clips from old timeline in, no dice.
If I make a new project and import my sequence in it does not work.
If I export the project as an XML and then try bringing that into a new project it does not work.
If I trash all renders, peak files, caches and prefs this project is still broken. I also tried doing that and then created a new XML afterward and bringing that into a new project. Nope.
If import the same audio clip from the same source location and put it in a timeline it works until I save the project, then the issue appears with it as well.
Just because I was desperate and wanted to see what would happen, exporting the clip from the timeline = no audio in export.
To be clear - the clips in the timeline HAVE waveforms visible. The tracks are not muted, soloed, sent to the wrong channels, gain turned down etc. They appear in the timeline as totally healthy and appropriate. They work fine in the source window. They work fine outside of Premiere. They work fine in old Autosave versions of the project UNTIL I save that project in any capacity. That immediately introduces this problem.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Is my project totally nuked? Why does Premiere continue to have these heinous error problems that ruin weeks and weeks of work in one fell swoop?

  • Interlace problem with Final Cut Pro

    Hi,
I have been using Final Cut Studio now from September and I am still learning things. I still have one problem that is persistent and have not found a solution anywhere, not in help or anywhere:
    - I shoot my videos with Canon EOS 5D mark II DSLR at 1920x1080 30p.
    - I want to keep the resolution and 30p, with no interlace spoiling the image
    - I have been recently successful avoiding the disease called interlace, however now I started trying out the SmoothCam filter and each time after using it my image is ruined with interlace. It is in the rendered video as well, no matter if I use Compressor or FCP Quicktime conversion to render, despite I have selected 1920x1080 30p as output.
This is very aggravating because I don't want to know where the interlace is needed since I have no displays that would support interlace and don't know anybody who still would have (everybody is using FullHD something, so I try to create FullHD progressive content only, no tube television support of any kind is desired).
Here is a short example video how the FCP forces interlace. Look at the eyes on 1080p display:
    http://www.katix.org/karoliina/media/aki.mov
Everything in my chain is 1080 30p progressive. I don't have anything interlaced anywhere. Still after smoothcam rendering the result ends this crappy. How can I fix this or is this a bug in the software?

I can't answer the question about MXF.
To the second question, are all parts of the FCS suite inside the top level of the Applications folder?
You must not rename, move them elsewhere or place them in a sub-folder. The updater will not see them.

  • Getting Rid Of A Gap Between Clips In The Timeline

A gap has appeared between clips in my timeline. I can delete, re-organise the clips but the gap remains. How can I remove this please ?
    (and how can it happen?)
    Ron

Sometimes I get what seems to be a gap but it's actually a glitch in the way the clip has renedered for FC.  The original media is always fine so I trash the rendered clips (which is a menu command) and all is well.  Best of luck!

  • Can't Trust FCP on Export to QT

I am experiencing a frustrating problem with Final Cut Pro 6. I have an HDV sequence that is being exported to a Quicktime. But then I check the exported file, I find that one video clip has slipped as much as one second while the audio stayed in sync. I went back to the sequence (where it still looks fine) and deleted the clip, re-inserted it and re-exported it. But the exported Quicktime once again has moved just that one video clip so it's out of sync.
I have had this happen numerous times with audio where music will suddenly be linked to the wrong place on the master clip. On those situations I have been able to relink the media and fix the problem. But this video issue is quite frustrating, because you don't know it's going to happen until you check the QT AFTER export. On long projects, this is a huge headache and time waster. Basically, I can't trust that Final Cut is going to output what I have edited.
Any thoughts on what might be going on? This has happened at some point on all four of my machines. Two are G5s running 6.0.1 and two are Intel MacPros running 6.0.5.
    Thanks - Ken

Not sure this is your solution...but if not, it will at least bump your post back to the top.
In the past, I've experienced odd behavior something like this, which turned out to be some type of file/render/project corruption. The situation was similar in that...no matter what I tried to do...I kept getting video showing up that wasn't supposed to be where it was.
One possibility was that a render file was being 'retained' by FCP, regardless of whatever troubleshooting procedure I tried.
    Possible solutions could include:
-trash all renders (using Tools/Render Manager and manually)
    -trashing prefs
    -running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions/Repair Disk
-create new project and retry...see if behavior follows
-create new user account and open the project there...see if the behavior follows
I don't know that any of that will help, since you're working with HDV on a different setup that I was, when working with DV on a G4...but they're all pretty basic troubleshooting steps.
Give them a shot and post back. Others may chime in as well.

  • Audio export- levels change on several clips

    This is driving me crazy!
    Using FCP 5.1.4...
Upon exporting the entire show for DVD--audio as an AIFF, the levels of several clips change and become really loud.
A work around I used when I made the last version of the dvd was copying each clip and pasting the content back into the clip via Paste Attributes. It would trash the renders (I am using audio effects such as reverb) and upon export would be fine. Now, this trick isn't working.
Any ideas? In Final Cut, everything sounds great, so there's no way to tell before export that there is a problem.
    Thanks.

Okay, I trashed all of my renders.
This is weird-- Now in FCP I am seeing the level changes in clip overlay mode. It's like trashing the renders is allowing the "true" levels to show. WEird. One clip has all these kefprames on it while it's stero pair partner is completely flat.
    Weirdness.
I noticed some other render file issues with this project previously--old video render files wouldn't go away ever after toggling the Clip Enable on and off which is usually good for disconnecting a render from a clip.
    Anyone seen this behavior before?
    I gotta get FCP 6.0 I think!

  • Canvas gone, functionality gone?

Canvas used to have CanvasDropEvent, now Canvas is gone and the functionality doesn't seem to be supported elsewhere.
I want to incorporate the ability for the user to drag a url into the applet and capture it. Does JavaFX 1.0 have a way to accomplish this?

Could be a corruption of some sort or a bad render or something. When I get to this point and there's nothing left to do I have list of stuff to try.
First if you have any stills check that they are RGB and not CMYK (least likely)
next I would trash the renders for the sequence
Then if you still aren't working, Take the sequence offline and reconnect iin segments. Do you have any nests in the sequence? Those have given me problems before. Usually nests with graphics.
I've gotten the out of memory error many times before and rarely could I make any sort of connection betweeen the problem and memory.

  • Help - General Error

My Colleague is currently working through a time pressured edit and is experiencing an unusual General Error in FCP 4
A reliable system - Power Book G4, but using a brand new G-Tech Hard drive 250G 7200 Firewire.
Footage captured fine (DV Pal) but working in the timeline he tried to retime a clip - a standard procedure
and Final cut closed the timeline and viewer, posting a message - General Error - Out of Memory
The project will now not open in FCP although other old projects on old hard drives work fine.
He has moved the footage from the new hard drive to an older reliable drive - but 1 file (60 mins in length) reads error bad file cannot copy.
However this file plays fine (from the new hard drive) in QT and FCP.
The power book has 1.5 Gb RAM and 15 GB free on the hard drive
the system settings use the new hard drive as capture, waveform and render
is there any help out there??

Sometimes renders or media files can have their FCP metadata in a project get corrupted. If this happens, there are a couple things you can do to try to fix it.
You have mentioned that you are able to import this file into another project, and I'm assuming that this is on the same machine with the same version of FCP. Our goal here is to preserve the edit that is in your FCP project and fix that project's connection to your media.
First, try to open the project without its media. Unmount the drive with you media on it, and open the project. You will get the "offline files - reconnect?) dialog. Do not reconnect or forget the file at this stage, simply let the project open. Find the clip that is giving you the trouble and choose "make offline" from the shortcut menu. This should prevent FCP from trying to load only this clip when you reopen the project. You may also find it helpful to close the timeline of the sequence that is giving you the problem. Save the project, quit FCP, bring your media drive back online and relaunch. You can also try dragging the entire contents of this project between browser windows into a brand-new project to make an extra backup of your sequences and logging info.
When you reopen the project, everything but the troubled clip should come back online, if you still have problems when you open the project or the sequence, and you sure the clip is offline, then quit and trash your renders in the finder before reopening the project. You can also hide the one problematic file from FCP by moving to another location before reopening the project.
Once you get the project to open without the connection to the troubled clip, you have some options. I would start by removing the instance of the clip with the speed adjustment, as it sounds like this is where the trouble started. Anyway, you can either atttempt simply reconnecting the clip, or if that doesn't work, try re-importing it and editing it back in. A 3rd option is to use Media Manager on a portion of the sequence to create some offline clips you can recapture. If you nest a few clips into t new sequence, you can media manage just that short piece into a new project with offline media with the unused media removed. This may help to get around your issue without having to recapture the entire long clip again.
    Hope this helps -
