Trasparency problems PS-image in InDesign

I have an ID-document with a grey background shape and thin lines.
When I place a PS-image with lots of transparent areas on top, everything looks fine on screen but is printed with a not quite transparent shadow. The same problem continues when exporting to a pdf. It looks fine on screen but the printout is with a shadow.
What becomes even stranger. At the same time I have opened another file that does not suffer from this syndrome. I simply cannot find the difference in setup between the two files. I got this file without the transparency annoyance from outside, but due to other issues I wanted to create a new file from scratch.
The same syndrome occurs with AI-graphics where there is a pattern with a transparent area. This is irritating because the transparent are is not indicated in AI. I solved this problem in a different fashion, but the PS-transparency problem remains.
Help would be highly appreciated.
In advance many thanks,
David

Unfortunately, Bob, I cannot see how this should help me as I am not battling with a screen artifact but with a print artifact and it is not just the edge between transparent and non-transparent areas, but with the entire transparent area. :-(
But thanks for the effort
David

  • Problem importing image bet InDesign/ Photoshop

    I hope I can articulate this well enough.
    I'm taking an image from an InDesign document, editing it in Photoshop, then dropping it back in InDesign.
    The image is perfectly fine in InDesign, and it seems to be fine in PhotoShop. However, once I edit it and drop it back in InDesign, that's where the problem occurs. The photo now has the white background attached to it, which screws with the background in InDesign. While in Photosho, it appears to not have a background (selecting the entire image correctly only highlights the image itself and none of the background). Does anyone know how I can import it back into InDesign without gaining the white rectangular background?
    Many thanks!

    How are you getting the image from InDesign and into Photoshop? How did you get the image into InDesign in the first place? Is the image linked or embedded?
    Basically, you're doing it the wrong way. You start with a Photoshop file, save it, then File > Place the inGe into InDesign, linking to the Photoshop file. You edit the image by editing the Photoshop file which, being lnked in InDesign, is updated on the fly.

  • Problem placing images in InDesign 5.0

    I'm using InDesign 5.0 for a catalog project. On other catalogs I've placed hundreds of images without a hitch, but suddenly I am having this problem: After successfully placing several images in a document I get the spinning ball after selecting another image to place. It occurs after I've selected "Place" and have gone back to my InDesign doc. This problem began after I'd selected 25 images all at once and successfully placed them. After that I can't even select a single image without the spinning ball. I have to Force Quit and relaunch. I've tried restarting, shutting down for 20 seconds, making new documents (thought it might be a Save-As issue), but can't get more than a handful of images onto the layout before it has this problem again.

    Do you use Linotype Fontexplorer? I ask because the latest plugin update broke illustrator in a similar way, if you do, try disabling the plugin and see if the issue resolves

  • Cutting out images in indesign, clipping path problems

    Hi,
    I have been putting images of my drawings from photoshop onto indesign for my portfolio,  after looking around the only way I can seem to find to cut them out is using clipping path/detect edges.
    The problem I have is because they are scanned sketches this method produces really inacurate and shoddy results and no matter how much I play around with the threshold and tollerance this means I still have to mess around with the pen and arrow tool for ages on each image.
    Is there a quicker solution to cutting them out like the magic wand or lasoo tool on indesign?
    It has taken days now in in design , I have all the images already cut out from their original pages on photoshop but the white box always comes around again when I drag or place the images in indesign.
    I have been shorcutting some pages and doing layout on photoshop and placing the image behind which works fine sometimes but is really inconviiant when I want to move the layout around text ot anything...... i have attatched some pictures to show you what I mean.
    Thanks for your help in advance

    Well Thats 2 days of my life Ill never get back!
    Thankyou very much! cant belive I was that stupid

  • Updating images in Indesign

    Is it  > really < necessary to manually update images in Indesign when you have changed them? If you have changed a batch can you not just auto update the way you always could in that thing we used to use??
    Thanks!

    I'm having the same exact problem, except in CS6- probably the same program. I'm updating everything now, I'll let you know how it goes.

  • [InDesign CS3] Unable to place PICT image on InDesign document.

    Hi all,
    I am trying to place a PICT type image on InDesign CS3 document but it is being shown disabled in open dialog. And when I drag this image(PICT type) to InDesign document, I am getting an error message "Quick Time and a TIFF (uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture".
    Note: This problem is coming on both MAC and Windows.
    Thanks in anticipation

    When you place content from InDesign, why are you exporting it as JPG?
    You can either
    save the INDD file and place it directly into InDesign or
    export the INDD as PDF/X-4 and place it into InDesign.
    This should result in better quality than using JPGs which will be always a loss of crispyness, change of colors, blurry text and loss of quality.

  • Placing of an Image in InDesign gets altered with parts cut away...

    Hello All,
    Here is a weird one that I have stumbled upon and have not been able to remedy. I am working with an image in PS, used transform to distort the image and gave it some perspective. Saved the image as a .Tiff with transparency on.
    When I place the image in InDesign it is missing part of the image as if it has been cut away. The image looks great in a browser and in PS. I have bellow attached a screen capture to help visually explain my dilemma. Has anyone run into this problem before and knows the remedy?

    There must be a path in Photoshop set as a clipping path. (the path name will show with outlined text). You can delete it or change it to a regular path. You can also use InDesign's clipping path menu to remove it from use within InDesign.

  • How do I save image and text as a single image in InDesign CS5.0?

    How do I save an image and text as one image in InDesign CS5.0? NOT 5.5.
    I need to save the image as a 72-dpi, jpg file for ePub purposes. I designed a book and am handing it off to someone for ePub.
    This is what I've tried:
    1) Copied from InDesign, pasted into a PhotoShop doc as a Smart Object. Saved it as 72 dpi jpg, then imported back into ID.
    2) Took a screenshot of ID page, placed it in PS, saved as 72 dpi, imported into ID
    3) Saved page as a PDF from InDesign, then saved PDF as 72 dpi jpg, then imported into ID.
    4) Save page as a PDF from InDesign, placed into Photoshop and saved
    as 72 dpi, then imported into ID.
    5) Saved as an EPS from InDesign, placed in PS, then imported back to ID.
    In all cases, the type looks terrible. It doesn't seem to matter whether I copy or place into Photoshop, though placing is slightly better.
    HELP!!!

    In all cases, the type looks terrible. It doesn't seem to matter whether I copy or place into Photoshop, though placing is slightly better.
    Naturally what you did will result in rasterized text. Did you preview with high quality settings?
    Are you sure the people who will handle that downstream need pixel images and do you have the exact pixel dimensions needed?
    Why did you place the image back in Indesign, by the way?

  • How to place the images in Indesign xml file by Javascript?

    How to place the images in Indesign xml file by Javascript?
    We got the Indesign xml file, how to give the image placement link by Indesign javascript? Please help me its urgent.

    Hi,
    You can pass the image url as a href attribute=> file:///Users/me/Documents/my_pic.jpg directly within your xml. It just needs that you pass a local, static and valid url.
    If you want to add image later once the xml is flowed and so target specific nodes and inject images, it's a bit more complex. If the node is not part of the layout, you may try to reach the XMLElement objet and such an attribute, then layout the element.
    var x = some XMLElement
    x.xmlAttributes.add("href","file:///Users/m/Documents/my_pic.jpg" );
    If already placed, then you have to get the associated pageItem, then place your file into it.
    pagItm.place ( File ( "/Users/m/Documents/my_pic.jpg" ) );
    Hope that helps,
    Loic

    Hey!
    This will remove all images from your InDesign document:
    var myLinks = app.activeDocument.links.everyItem().parent;
    for(var i = 0; i < myLinks.length; i++)
        myLinks[i].remove();

  • Problem with images opened in Photoshop CS 5

    Hi, I have a problem with images that I open in Photoshop CS 5. F. ex. I opened
    the following image:
    The image appears with a purple color in Photoshop. If I hover over the image
    with a tool like lasso, it temporarily regains it´s original color. The image mode is RGB Color, 8 Bits/Channel.
    I resetted the start settings of Photoshop with the CTRL-Shift-Alt-combination, which had no effect.

    The confusion arises from the imprecise error message in the Preferences > Performance dialog box, to wit:
    OK, that seems to be open to misunderstanding indeed.
    The video card: Citrix Systems Inc. Display Driver.
    Could not find a list for CS6 specifically, but the card may fall short.

    If I invoke View > Proof Colors, the only thing that changes is that the text in the brackets
    Also if you set View > Proof Setup to something different?
    Boilerplate-text:
    Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • Mosaic problem with image after Yosemite

    I'm using CS6 (13.0.6) on my iMac and recently upgraded to Yosemite.  I'm now getting a problem where images will suddenly either go black or get a weird mosaic/jigsaw type of look.  In the example below, the "source" images used in the mosaic were files that I had recently closed - so it isn't just a scrambled version of the correct image (if that makes sense).
    Once this happens, the only fix is to close out Photoshop and start over.  Anyone else having this problem?  Any fixes?
    Thanks for any help or suggestions!

    Interesting…Turning off "Use Graphics Processor" returns the magnifying glass to previous Photoshop method of dragging a marquee to zoom, instead of zooming from the point of click.
    So, this is February 2. You say it is Apple's problem and they are working on it, huh? It's been at least two months, apparently. It doesn't seem to be a top priority.
