Travel and using skype

Wondering about using skype while traveling to Spain and calling home to Canada. When buying credit do I use Canada as the country I will be calling. I do not see where it asks for the country I am calling from. Anyone help me with this. K

Check the rates page for Canada to find the cost and it doesn't matter where in the world you're calling from, the rate is the same.

  • Travel to Japan and use Skype to call AT&T calling...

    Hi,
I'm going on a business trip to Travel later this year and I'm looking for a best way to make some personal business calls during that time. My company already provides me AT&T Calling Card for daily business operation while I'm in my home country(now) and I can later reimburse the fee. Since I will stay in Japan for just a month, apply for a mobile/landline number there seems not practical to me. I just checked AT&T website and know my calling card should be available in Japan but I'm wondering if I can use Skype to call these Japan numbers? I took it a try here(outside of Japan) to call AT&T Japan calling card number but it got disconnect with 0 sec duration. I know it may because I don't have any Skype Credit balance but I don't want to risk my money to buy it and then find it's impossible to call in this way. Any idea?
In short: Can I call AT&T calling card Japan access number by Skype?

    Hello,
As far as Skype is concerned the answer is "yes". You can call virtually any # worldwide with Skype Credit.

  • I have a MACMINI and use Skype daily,

I have a Mac Mini and I use Skype daily, but after a few minutes it starts to echo badly and make noises, How do I control this? what do I have to buy to stop the noise?

my mic is only on a 3 foot cord I have tried to place the mic as far from speakers as possible, but I STILL need the mic near computer for other party on Skype to hear me.
I tried getting earphones, but Apple store only has Ipod compatible earphones and mics for the computer but they are actual microphones for Karaoke or music purposes

  • Ipad camera app not working after update 7.1.1 and using skype on video call

    Hello,
i updated my mini ipad to ios 7.1.1
then i used skype for video call...
It worked fine for a few minutes then the front camera stopped working
Stopping skype and starting the camera app, i saw that the front camera was no more working...black screen
    instead rear camera was working...
Then i tried to reset the device (pressing sleep and home button) and uninstalled skype
Now front camera works more or less, but the camera app seems always almost freezed, i cant change easily the options,
i cant record a video, only camera for snapshots is working...
    any suggestion?
is it possible to uninstall the camera app and try to reinstall it?
    Thanks!

Updating to iOS 7.1.2 doesnt solving problem at all, even my front camera also begin not working after I did that. Everything's OK when I using rear cam, but just freeze and blurred on screen while switched to the front cam. And have to resetting to go back to rear cam. My iPhone4's camera itself, rear and front, are in good performance before. And I've tried anything such as reset, hard reset, restoring, setting up as new device, etc, without any result since then. If some people say it was about hardware issued, I thing so weird because too many same hardware problems coincident happened at the same moment. So I just only hope the Apple will listening and solving all problems wisely. Thanks b4.

  • Has anyone gone to europe with an htc one and used a prepaid SIM there?

I will be going to Europe (france and spain thus far) in september and would like to be able to use our smartphones.  I hear that outside of the USA, if you purchase a prepaid SIM (they run like 10euro for 1000/1000/2gb) it will work just fine.  Can anyone verify this?
    Thanks!

I need to access and use Skype from overseas, and am considering buying a a Chinese phone called the X10.  It's an unlocked quad-band GSM phone - which is fine - supports GPRS & WiFi, but is not 3G. It supports Java but is not Android.  Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in features that will allow Skype use, and what I should avoid? Many thanks.  Steve

You probably want an Android or iPhone for use with the Skype mobile apps.  Phones with the Symbian operating system - mostly Nokia phones - can also use a Skype app, but lacks some of the features available in the Android or iPhone versions.  If you are able to confine your use to Skype to WiFi, not having 3G or 4G/LTE on your mobile phone is probably not an issue.
I have a Nokia N8 mobile phone, which uses the Symbian operating system.  Nice phone, compatible with GSM/UMTS networks around the world.  The Skype app for it is not great, but works on WiFi or 3G data networks.  What I ended up doing was also purchasing an iPod Touch, which is compatible with apps for the iPhone, and a WiFI hotspot app for my N8.  Then I use Skype on the iPod, connecting to the Internet through the N8's hotspot app via WiFi.  It takes two devices in this case to use Skype, but I'm making use of the better Skype app on the iPod over the N8.  Or I can just use the iPod if I have access to WiFi wherever I happen to be.
    Hope that helps!

  • Using Skype Mobile while traveling in Europe

I have a Verizon Samsung Fascinate with Skype installed.   I have bought credits.
I will soon be traveling to Belgium and France.  I have been told by Verizon that my phone will not work in Europe.  However, when my husband talked to a representative from Skype, he was told that, with the Skype credits, we would be able to use our phone in Europe....   Please explain the discrepancy in what we were told by the two representatives from the 2 companies.
If there is something special we have to do in order to use our phone in Europe, please let us know what it is.
    Thank you

--- At the risk of sounding  technologically uninformed I don't understand the acronyms you used for phone compatibility in Europe. I have an unused iPhone 4 I had AT&T "unlock" for me (I understand there's no real way to check stateside whether the unlock process was actually successful, but I'll go with the assumption it worked for now) BTW AT&T website provides a form you submit and they'll reply within 48 hrs. Took 3 hrs for me, I assume because I have another phone under contract with them, so no harm no foul for them.
---  Anyway ... I visited various blogs trying to find out the best process to acquire a SIM card for France. It's complicated as the saying goes. So I googled the question what about Skype?
--- I use Skype-to-Go from US to call Europe. Very cool, they provide a local # I dial and it connects me for little cost. Calling cell phones is pricyer than landlines. I can use Skype-to-Go from ANYWHERE in the US on one of three authorized phones.
--- My question is: Is there a similar process FROM Europe to US?
--- Can I use the Skype App to dial a phone in the US from the existing AT&T US iPhone without incurring roaming charges- and if YES, HOW?
OR Can I use my old unlocked iPhone with a SIM card from France to call US and Euro #s? if yes which provider do you recommend? Preferrable one purchased in US so it is pre-authorized and ready to go upon arrival.
OR do I need to use the iPad camera-driven Skype function that requires previous arrangments to ensure that the recipient is at her computer also?
--- The subtle differences have never been clear to me ...
    Thank you!

  • Using Skype to travel

I live in the U.S. and am traveling to Spain.  I have $10 credit.  Am I correct in understanding that I'll spend less then 3 cents per minute to call my house phone?
I tested call from my IPAD and IPHONE to the house phone and it cost 8 cents for a 14 second call.  Which is where my confusion comes from.
Also, when I verified (on internet) how to dial, I found that I have to dial 00-1-area code-phone number.  On skype is this reduced to +1 (the + translating to 00) ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi, jcoleicons, and welcome to the Community!
I appreciate how confusing call rates can be; generally speaking, call rates using Skype credit are more expensive than calling fixed or land lines via a subscription.  Remember, too, that calling from a wireless device will be more expensive when roaming!  Check your plans with your wireless carrier to ensure you are subscribed to the best calling plans available.  Wi-Fi hot spots may not always be secure, however they offer a less expensive alternative to placing calls ... Skype 5.8.0.158 also has the facility to use Skype credit for Wi-Fi access (Tools -> Options -> General -> Skype Wi-Fi -> Save).
Your observations are correct on how to place outgoing calls to land lines from Skype; it is convenient not to have to add the 001 in order to reach an international circuit; it is quite handy to simply use the drop-down menu in Call Phones, choose the country you are dialing to, and then the rest of the number (city or area code and local exchange number).
Too much information!!   Please post back if you have further questions.  Bon Voyage!
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • Cabbit use skype credit to dial landline and mobile

I have been using Skype for over 10 years, and work internationally, so it really comes in handy for me , escept when I have poor WIFI,,,, I use it on desktop and my Iphone,,,, This week my account was suspended for suspicious activity and I was forced to submit information to reactivate and change my password,,, now that I went through all that, I still cannot dial landline and mobile phones although I have 35$ credit showing on my account,,,I have not been told why the account was suspended in the frst place,,, and now I am travelling and cannot even use it ,,,, I am very dissappointed at the process and difficulty to contact anyone who can reactivate my service... Any other service that suspects suspicious activity would simply inform me by my known email,, and resent verification link to the email to initiate a reset,,, but instead,, microsoft goes through an extended automated process, while the customer is forced to sit and wait,, then doesnt even know in the end why the problem started in the first place,,, I am slowly migrating away from microsoft,, and this is just another reason why,,,,

You should be able to change payment method to Skype Credit.
    Try this first:
    1) Go https://secure.skype.com/account/call-phones/packages
    2) Open your subscription Settings
    3) Click on Change payment method
    4) Add another payment method -> Skype Credit
Once you have done this it should look something like this:

  • I am trying to use an education program that needs Java applets to install and use and it will not use Safari. When I download IE from the web it will not install. How can I get a browser that will work on my MacAir for travel use of this program?

I am trying to use and education program that needs Java applets and it will not run on Safari. IE will not install from the web. How do I get a browser that will work to install so I can use this program when I travel.

Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

What is the problem with iCloud? iCloud has nothing to do with iTunes syncing.
