With Enhancemnet Package 2 (Ramp-Up until Dezember 2007?) the entire ESS Travelmanagement Services are available as Web Dynpro ABAP as well, although the Web Dynpro Java versions ars still there and can be used. You have to manually switch from Java to ABAP. As SAP has only enhanced the WD ABAP version, i would recommand to use those.
3. If you want to use the Travel Planning functionality you have to connect your SAP-System to a booking system like Amadeus, Galileo etc. This will generate additional costs tho. Check this link for more infos https://websmp210.sap-ag.de/tm-downloads

Error in ESS Travel Request iView

Dear All,
I am new to HR module of SAP. I have tried to access the ESS iveiw provided by the SAP in the portal. when i access the iveiws (webdynpro/Java) it gives error. can any one tell me how to resolve this error?
Also when i go through the sap help portal, i read that from ECC 6.0 package 2 they are going to support only ABAP/webdynpro and not JAVA/webdynpro (ESS). Is it correct?
when i try to query the flight availability through standard SAP travel managment, my system gives error as "Connection error with external reservation system". what could be the cause for this error? can any one help to get rid of this error?

New field in Travel Request

Hi friends,
Happy new year to all,
Here i am working with a enhancement in create travel request,i am able to add a new field but on saving the data i should add this field value with the standard table data.If Any one added a new field in travel request , Please let me know how to save the new field data with stadard data.i have checked with on_save method in comp control still i did not get a proper idea.

I have had an experience of working on such requirement, the SAP Standard T&E module(provided you are using the same) stores data in cluster, if you are adding an additional field to the trip by adding it in the context node then you have to make some specific changes into a number of places, the problem is compounded because you would not be able to hold the custom fields value otside the trip webdynpro component, I would not be able to preempt the specific reuquirement of yours but in a nutshell you have to perform the folloing steps:
1) capture the field value(say vendor of the expense line item) into a variable, after reading the context node, make sure that you extend all the context node and update the binding(if I remember correctly they are all interface nodes)
2) save the custom field value(vendor of the expense line item, from the step 1) in some global area, this can be done in many ways, it all depends which option you perfer.
3) Extend number of sap standard structures like for line item you have to extend PTRV_WEB_RECEIPTS_EXT, PTRV_UTIL_BELEG, PTRV_UTIL_BELEG etc...etc...also you have to do an enhancement on the function module PTRA_UTIL_RECEIPTS_GET...there are some more function module & structure which depends on your requirement.
4) extend the SAP Standard function module which saves a trip, there are many function modules which is called for the save.
There would be number of structure enhancements and they would be kind of duplicating themself....hence I would recomend if you can figure out the number of custom fields you would need and assign all of them to a structure, once that is done, you can assign this structure to all the append structure of the standard tables and structure.
I am sorry if I am replying you in a sketchy way...but to get the full picture I have to get ypur requirements first....do let me know if this doesn't help!!

Portal runtime error on creating Travel Request

I have copied the standard ESS Role and created my own ESS Role. I then assigned this to my portal user.
Then when I log into the portal as the user and click on "Create Travel Request" or "Create Expense Report" URLs, I get the following error:
Portal runtime error.
An exception occurred while processing your request. Send the exception ID to your portal administrator.
Exception ID: 04:53_02/02/10_0021_23623650
Refer to the log file for details about this exception.
Is there any portal/IMG setup that is missing? Or any authorization missing?

Thanks I made changes to Resources node in IMG.
Before making these changes I was getting the following error:
Portal Runtime error. An exception occured while processing your request... Exception ID:.... Refer to log for details....
I just changed the URL of PCD page in the Resources node.
Note:
(1) In Portal I have made my own folder structure:
-> Portant Content
-->My Travel Setup
--->Employee Self-Service
>Roles
>MyTravelESS (role copy of the original Portal ESS role, Delta link. i.e. ESS role under End User Content-->Employee Self-Service)
(2) I have not copied the iviews, pages worksets etc. under my new folder structure.
But Now I am getting another error:
500 Internal Server Error...
Root Cause
The initial exception that caused the request to fail, was:
com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntimeException: Failed in WD JNDI lookup. javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: No child found in WebDynproContext with name base

Error when creating Travel request

Hi all,
    I am encountering error "Percentage is too high" when creating a travel request. When i tried to change the cost centre to split into different entries.
Ex: 1) 10 %   cost centre1
      2) 40%    cost centre2
      3) 50%    cost centre2
when i try to save the request i encountered error with "Percentage 90% is too high" as the first entry is reverting back to the initial entry before modification(initial entry is 100% with cost centre1) it is reverting back the first entry as 1) 100 %   cost centre1 that means now the entries are becoming
Ex: 1) 100 %   cost centre1
      2) 40%    cost centre2
      3) 50%    cost centre2
   altogether 190% so throwing an error with "Percentage 90% is too high" as the total percentage is more than 100%.
Can you please help in resolving this issue.

Custom field in General data of Travel request

Hi All,
I need to add a custom field in the General data section of the travel request screen.The requirement is such that if user creates an expense report corresponding to that travel request then the same field with the value should appear.Can anyone brief on how to achieve this.
Can the same field be added to each line item (expense types) of the expense report ?
I am wondering if its possible since the tables for line items and header data are different.

Hi Kumar,
First, in order to customise the ESS webdynpro Java iViews you need to be aware that, you are about to change the SAP standard iviews. In order to avoid this you can make a copy of the SAP standard one's and then try to customise the copied one's.
Now, you should have NetWeaver Development Infrastructure(NWDI) installed. Once it is installed you should also install the Netweaver Developer Studio (NWDS) on your computer.
Once you have these two installed, you should deploy the ESS Business Package onto the NWDI by creating tracks. There is a cookbook available on SAP Service Marketplace for configuring NWDI for ESS.
Once you have all the above mentioned tools, have a look at the following blog which clearly explains about the procedure of customising ESS iviews.

Screen capturing in Premiere Pro 2.0?

I'm looking to create a video presentation of my company's proprietary web applications and would like to capture my screen as I navigate through the pages and narrate. I have seen other recently released video editing software that enables users to capture the current screen as video - but we have Preimier Pro 2.0 at the office. Can I screen capture with this version or what kind of upgrade would support this feature?

What Jim points out is unfortunately all too true. Some have had success with Camtasia footage (via conversions, etc.), but many just rely on the limited editing capabilities in the current release. It's also true for Adobe's screen-cap program (name eludes me right now). There seems to be less success with that one, than with Camtasia.
Do not know if CamStudio has any editing features.
You might want to also post to the Video Lounge, as both Jeff Bellune and Curt Wrigley do video tutorials and do them well. They WILL have some ideas for you. The Lounge is for non-Adobe specific questions. Though there is a technical nature to your question, I think it will fit right in, and both are likely to see and respond to your request for info.

Problem in changing label in leave request approval screen

I have followed the SAP note 1234273 to change labels in our Leave request iViewin ESS and could do it successfullybut I could not able to know how to change the labels in Leave request approval screen because I have created a custom role and assigned Universal work list to it and assigned it to manager to view the leave requests applied. I navigated to Leave request approval screen via that role but ctrl + right click is not working on that page. Please suggest me

Check your uwl config, normally it is configured to directly call concerned(leave req approval) application hence your iview may not be getting called. You can try changing the uwl config to call PCD page instead of direct wdp application call.

Query regarding screen capture in webdynpro

Hi
i needed to use the java.awt.Robot class to perform a screen capture. This is basically used to capture signature which is done on a applet. But hwile i am using it gives me java.awt.headless exception which basically means that i cannot use display devices or certain other features. is there any way get past this.
Is there any way i can do a screen capture using webdynpro.
I have few more doubts regarding a application that i need to make. If i am not able to get a solution for this problem i would explain the scenario and probably someone could help me with solution for the same

The problem is that the iframe control is not really supported and should not be used anymore i think.
But anyways: Since there is actually no out of the box solution, the steps you would hav to go are as follows:
1. Get Access to the image data (client side)
I suppose the paint method of one of the AWT/Swing components is overwritten to draw the signature with a pointig device (eg mouse/touch screen)
in the method public void paint(Graphics g) you have access to the component's Graphics object.
When the user presses a button in that applet you need to get the latest graphics object of the component and get the bitmap data out of it.
This is basically the same as using the java robot screenshot, just more elegant.
But it is important of course, that the navigation to the new view is somehow triggered by the applet so that it can send the request to the servlet before the applet is destroyed.
2. Send the data to the Server
I think the best would be to write a servlet to accept the bitmap data from the applet and store it to a database. When the File is uploaded you have to navigate to the next view (using portal navigation or javascript to reload the parent frame)
Then you need to query that database from Webdynpro to get the file.
3. Now you would have to use a library like iText to create a PDF file with your image in it.
This is all not really easy and I can only describe some rough ideas. I cannot think of an easier way to do it right now since client side coding is not supported by webdynpro.

Creating training videos from screen captures?

Hello folks,
Is it possible to create interactive videos from a series of screen captures. I understand the preferred method is to use Captivate to record a session, however, all my software walk throughs are created in a VM and installing Captivate inside a VM is not always practical.
In the past, when I worked with RWD uPerform, I captured static screens using a really good/free tool called Gadwin screen capture. Once completed, I could add these screens into RWD, select clickable areas and RWD would do the rest by simulating clicks, motions, etc.
Is this possible in Captivate?
Thus far, my experience with Captivate involved doing direct recordings, in a manner similar to Camtasia.

If you are seeking a smaller footprint (read mobile or possibly portable) version of Captivate, please request same using the Wish Form. Adobe development does pay attention to these. If enough folks request something or report a certain issue, it gains a higher priority on the list of features or fixes.

Workflow and POWL integration for Travel Request / Approval

HI,
We are on EHP7 and using POWL for different kind of Approvals.
POWL is working good for Leave Approval and we have used Workflow Task ID as : TS12300097 / TS12300116, and all leave request appearing in POWL for manager and approving them.
Now we have to use POWL for Travel Request / Travel Expense approval and need to know what Task IDs I should use to configure this under SPRO.
Few tabs / links created like Travel Req Approval / Expense Approval / Claim Approval in POWL and need to show entries in respective tabs.

2) Is it required to keep entries under "Assign Task IDs to POWL Types" in SPRO ???
ex : MANAGER_MSS_INBOX MSS_POWL_LEA_APPROVAL TS12300097
I don;t see any difference in terms of functionality even If i delete above entry, may i know the necessity of having those entries ?

No screen capture program in CC?

I realize there are a ton of programs out there with varrying degrees of usefulness for this sort of thing. But I would expect such a comprehensive toolset as creative cloud would have some way of recording my desktop/other adobe programs. I work in marketing for a software company, so the vast majority of video done by us, is from the software itself. I hate having to rely on 3rd party programs and freeware video converters to do this. I understand captivate has this ability..... but for some reason is not included in the package. I also understand there was an Ideas post, where this topic was voted on. However I do not have the necessary perms to access that page.
If anyone is aware of a change, or could perhaps point me in a direction where my cries will be more usefulI, that would be appreciated. I guess I should also mention the reason I want adobe CC to support screen capture natively is because I love the entire CC package to death! the developers at adobe, could run circles around any of these compettitors (techsmith for example) in my opinion.
