Travel time in iCal

I want to be able to schedule travel time before and after an appointment so I can budge my time and not have people make me appointments when I am trying to get back to the office. Is there a way or iCal setting to show travel time before and after an appointment?

i haven't seen that option either, and it would be a great feature. (traveltime in a different colour...)
i do it like this: in the caption of the appointment i put the time that the gig starts. the actual time stretch of the appointment is the appointment including traveltime.
it's not the best way, but it works...
good luck

  • How do I sync travel time from iCal to calendar on an iOS device?

Hi, I really like the feature travel time in iCal. Unfortunale it only works great on the Mac. Therefor I only get the correct time when to leave when I am at home.
    I have an example:
I made an apointment that is 2 hours and 3 minutes travel time away on my iMac. This is actually transferred to my iPhone correctly.
I also added an apointment with a lication in the same city. On the iMac it shows me that I will need 8 minutes from the first meeting to the second apointment and that it will remind me in time to leave. Everything seems fine. But when I look in calendar on my iPhone it will remind me 1 hour and 8 minutes before the meeting starts. That does not make any sense.
I thought that maybe iOS calendar adds the usual time set to remind me and adds the driving time. This is not the case since the usuall time is set to two hours. On the iMac the usuall time to remember me is set to one hour. It is probbably coming from here that it adds the hour but it does not make sense.
Does anynbody know how to use the travel time funktion properly for all devices?
I am also lokking for a way to set the reminder to travel time plus X minutes. It would make sence to get reminded when to get ready and not when you sit at your desk and are actually supposed to get out of the house...

    Ok, I found the answer.
iCal will push the travel time plus the standard reminder time to the iOS device. So I set the standard remeinder to 10 minutes and I know whenever I am reminded that I have 10 minutes to get going. We can only hope that Apple will work some kinks out of this feature and we will be able to set a standard reminder for all appointments with travel time like "Leave in 30 minutes" to finish up what your doing or wrap up a meeting and then "leave in 5 minutes" to really get going. If you have the same issue write to apple.com/feedback. Maybe they will work on it if the get more feedbacks...

  • I work nights. Can I switch Travel Time in iCal from work to home?

I work nights. Can I switch Travel Time in iCal from work to home? I really don't have any appointments from 11 pm to 7 am when I work, but I don't want to switch when my day starts in preferences as no one else in my family works nights.
    Any suggestions?

  • Ical travel time

Travel time is not working in ical on mavericks...  i have turned it on but it's not displaying anything on the calendar?

As of now, iCal will only add maps and travel time events based off of the Apple Maps database or from your contacts.
Example, you are meeting a friend for lunch at "Temple Cafe"
Once you add the name for the event, under the title, you can click in the menu to "Add Location", instead of typing the address, just type, "temple cafe". iCal will do a search based off the Apple Maps database to find a location matching that description, once it is displayed, you can click on the name and it will add the address of the location. After that, you can go into the time options and add in the travel time, it will automatically be based from your last known location, or you can add your own custom time.
Alternatively, you can also search your contacts when you are typing in the location field and it will add addresses that are based off of your contacts list.
Unfortunetly, as of now, you cannot add/type the address within the location field and have it associate with the location. I am sure this is a feature that will be added in a future update.
Note: if you are having trouble finding the name for the location, open apple's Maps app and search there first, once you find the exact name apple's database has your location under, type the same name within the iCal location.
    Hope this helps

  • ICal crashes when choosing travel time

Whenever I enter an iCal event with a location, iCal identifies the location and the travel time to that location ... but when I click on the travel time to include it in the calendar item, iCal crashes. For awhile I was able to enter everything except travel time, save the calendar item, then re-open and click on the calculated travel time. But lately it crashes even when I save first and then try to add it.

I submitted a bug report to apple on March 2, 2105 about this exact issue and they replied back that its Duplicate of 17894821
So apple is aware of it and hopefully will be doing something about it. I'm using Google Apps for the backend of my calendar.

  • ICal alert time with travel time messed up when synced with Android

If an event has a travel time of 30 mins, and I set an alert to be 30 mins before I have to leave, it gets messed up when I sync with my Android phone.
After that, the alert is 30 (travel) + 30 (before) = 60 mins before travel on iCal. Doesn't seem to be able to fix this

I'm having the same problem too, but with my iPhone as synced over iCloud.

  • Travel Time Not Showing on iPad

When I look on my phone, iCal blocks off my travel time so I know at a glance that I can't schedule anything there. However, I bought a new iPad mini tonight and it does not show the travel time blocked off. It will calculate the travel time and show me how long it will take if I select the appointment. But it won't show me travel time in the week view. What am I missing??

So how do we get this message to the wizards that need to do a bit more programming work? Travel time (which was around years ago and suddenly disappeared about 4 OS's ago) is super. But markroos is right: If it doesn't show up on the mobile devices we love, it is useless. Because, duh, we don't take our iMacs on the road with us, do we?

  • How do I set up travel time in Calendar?

I have set up several events and included the event address.  When I click on the travel time box, the gear spins for a second or two and quits.  I then have a pull down that allows me to select an arbitrary amount of time.  Also, there doesn't seem to be any way to look at directions which I thought was an advertised feature.
Thanks for any assistance/adcive to can

Roger make sure you have location services turned in in System Preferences / Privacy and make sure the Calendar is checked.
As a test, I turned mine off and then I saw the same problems on the Calendar as you described. Once your turn them on, you should be able to add locations and a map will appear at the bottom of the screen where you edit the event details. You can double click the map to open Maps and get directions.
    Stephen. In reply to this:
Some events give me the Travel Time option, but only from "Work" and not "Home".  My actual work events don't give me the Travel Time option, maybe because iCal thinks I am already there?
I played around for a bit and think I found an answer. If I have no events on a day and I schedule one for anytime until 6:00pm, it will give the travel time from Work. If I add an event or change the time to 6:01pm or later, it will give the travel time from home.
If there are other events with locations already on the calendar and I add a new event reasonably close to one of them, it will give the travel time from the location of the previous event.
I haven't found a way to change the "from" location without adding another event or just typing in a travel time manually, but overall the automated system works pretty good.

  • I am using calendar to estimate travel time but it does not recall my last location.

This is a strange one.  I have an iCal event that clearly states where I am and maps it.  Yet the next event that has a location measure the travel time and path form my Boston home location although I am in NY with  prior meeting that shoudl overide my home location.  What am I doing wrong?
    Thansk for the help.

    Hi thierryhubert,
If the Travel Time function in Calendar isn't calculating based on your current location, you may want to make sure that Location Services is enabled. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Travel time sync with ios

    Hello,
When I add an appointment to my Mavericks iCal with a travel time to it's location, than the appointment is synced to my other apple devices such as ipad and iphone. However, the travel time does not show in that appointment on my mobile devices with ios (7.0.3). It also does not add the time to the appointment as just more time. So on my iMac I see an appointment of 60 minutes and before that it adds 30 minutes travel time, but when synced over icloud, I only see the appointment with a duration of 60 minutes. This is weird, because I don't take my iMac to a location and in between appointments I don't have my iMac in my car, but I do have my iPhone and iPad with me, but there I don't see the "whole appointment" including travel time. Am I doing something wrong, or has Apple forgotten to add the the travel time in the sync?

    Adrian,
I have found that travel time does not sync to my iphone.  I have already sent feedback to Apple and suggest that you do the same.  You know, power in numbers.

  • Problems estimating travel time

Whenever possible I try to add travel time to events in iCal.  One issue I am having is that seemingly during the week, no matter what time of day, I am only offered walking or driving time from the office to the location (never home).  Likewise, on the weekend, I am offered walking or driving time from home (not office).  I can choose the number of minutes I estimate, but I cannot figure out how to have iCal allow me to choose home when I want home or office when I want office.

    Hello David M. Fresco,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Do you have any events that are up to three hours before this event? I think you may be running into the following:
Calendar finds your starting location by using the location in any events that are up to three hours before this event. If Calendar doesn’t find a location, it uses your work address or home address depending on the time of day. (Your work hours are set in Calendar preferences using the “Day starts at” and “Day ends at” menus.) If your card in Contacts doesn’t have your addresses, Calendar uses your computer’s current location.

  • Travel time - what if I want to drive from home?

I love that the new iCal has travel time, but I'm puzzled by the time calculations.  I entered an address and the only calculated times I get are driving from work and walking from home.  How can I calculate the time driving from my home address, or my walking time from work?
    Thanks.

They are set in Address Book.  The point here though is that one of the options is driving from work, and the other walking from home.  They aren't even from the same place.

  • Since Time Change, iCal and iPhone Calendar Time Are All Messed Up

Ever since the most recent daylight-savings time change, I noticed all events I created in iCal, when synced with my iPhone, became an hour off. If I edit the event on the iPhone, it stays the correct time on my iPhone, but when it syncs with iCal again, the time on iCal goes off by another hour, even though the time for the event on the iPhone stays correct. (Hopefully that makes sense) Has anyone else experienced this problem? It is incredibly annoying, because now I have no trust in any of my calendar entries as to what the correct time is.
As an example: I created an event for Sunday the 16th on iCal on my Mac for a 1-hour soccer game from 8:00PM - 9:00PM. When I synced my iPhone, I noticed a few days later that the event on my iPhone now said the event was from 9:00PM - 10:00PM...one hour off! I edited the event on my iPhone, and re-synced. Now my iPhone has the correct time (which I manually edited on the phone) but iCal now says the event goes from 7:00PM - 8:00PM. Again, an hour off, but in the reverse direction (an hour off early, rather than late). When I sync now, even though the times on the iPhone and the times on iCal don't match, they do not change...it's as if either the computer or the phone didn't recognize daylight savings time or something, and thinks it has the correct time for the event. Both my Mac and my iPhone's clocks do display the correct time and date, however, so it's not like the system clock is off. It is completely bizarre, and I entered my entire teams schedule this way, so ALL games were off, and now is completely screwed up. Please help.

Yes, I did. I posted an identical post in the iPhone forum since no one answered here. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1791145&tstart=0
The first reply solved the problem. It involved the Time Zone setting in iCal Advanced preferences for me.

  • How do I get a calendar notification with travel time/traffic info?

    Hi everybody,
I saw an IOS 8 screenshot showing a calendar reminder in the lock screen that not only showed the upcoming calendar event info, but also said something like "to be in time, you should leave at 11:31". On the web page showing that screenshot, it was also said that this travel time info takes the current traffic info into account.
When I add a calendar event, I'm setting the proper event address plus the travel time option based on my location, and I'm also setting a calendar alert to something like "Notify me 1h prior leaving time". And actually, I'm getting that notification - but without that neat info when to leave exactly (which seems to include the current traffic info as said above)!
To be clear, I'm not talking about the traffic conditions WIDGET. This works flawlessly on my iPhone 5s with IOS 8. I'm talking about a lock screen calendar reminder that included the time to leave for an appointment!
I'm inserting the screenshot here (it's actually in German as I am from Germany):
Can anybody help on how to get those calendar reminders?
    Best,
    Gero

    Hello gerofromronnenberg
To see that information, you would need to swipe down to bring up Notification Center to bring up the time that you should need to leave your current location.

  • How to get calendar travel time (set up in Mavericks) to show on iOS 7 calendar?

I was wondering how to get calendar travel time (set up in Mavericks) to show on iOS 7 calendar? If I change a location in mavericaks it is updated in my iOS 7 calendar, but if I add travel time to an appointment, that does not show up on my iphone. This seems like a big miss for apple if this is the case. I could maybe understand not adding the ability to add travel time in iOS 7, but not being able to see the travel times you set up seems very incomplete. Any ideas or insight?

    Hello Cheer,
I don't believe the table changed when migrating from Access.  I had two tables before the migration, one was for the SwitchBoard Manager and the other table was for the database table.  I used the Switchboard to navigate to different menus, such
as the Main Form, Power Form, Server Form, etc.  Let me know if I can provide any other information to help you narrow this down for me.
    Thank you for your assistance.
