Traveling Icons
The two icons on my desktop that correspond to my hard drive and external hard drive reposition themselves every time I turn on my computer. Sometime they’ll stay in the same spot for months. Then, for no apparent reason they’ll be in a different spot every time I turn on the computer.
This is rather minor, but I’m puzzled by it. Any guess as to why this is happening?

Positioning Desktop icons, too close to the edge of the screen, will cause them to reposition themselves on restart.
Along with the Icon Size, the Text size & Label position can also factor in. Experiment with these settings.
My Desktop icons do not reposition themselves, and this is how I have my Desktop View Options set.
Icon size: 32 x 32
Text size: 12 pt
Label position: Bottom
I have none of the following options selected.
Snap to grid
Show item info
Show icon preview
Keep arranged by
A different configuration may work for you. Experiment with the options until you find something suitable.
Click on an open area of your Desktop.
From the Finder's Toolbar, position your cursor over "View" and pull down to "Show View Options", and click. Or use the Command + J keys.

I am unable to see the airplay icon on my macbook air, iphone or iPad which would enable me to use my Bose speaker through airplay. I set this up in the UK but have taken my macbook and bose speaker travelling with through Thailand. Ive wifi in my room and am able to access the internet on my laptop, Ive also been able to through the Bose Soundlink air wifi set application connect the bose speaker to the Wifi too.
I am only able to play my itunes through my macbook speakers and cannot find the airplay button which should be next to the volume slide once turned down to less than 1/3 of the volume..Thanks for your help. Since I'm uninterested in loading all my photos (the only option) into photostream, I won't be able to use the settings in ATV. I guess I'm just stuck with using iPhoto on my MB Air. Thanks again.

How do I get rid of Lotus Traveler Mail icon (E71)...
I recently upgraded the firmware in my E71. Now when I open up my Messaging, there is a Lotus Traveler Mail entry with a question mark icon beside it. It appears that Traveler mail is no longer included in the latest version but the icon remains. My phone software version is 510.21.009.
There are several discussions on how to remove Traveler Mail on this forum (using X-plore to reveal .sis hidden files) but these fixes don't work with the new firmware version.
BTW - entering *#7370# is not an option for me . . .But it didn't.
it read the mail to as part of the email address and didn't recognize the
address.
went back into Muse, redid it several times till it took, reuploaded the
file to FTP
so far it's OK.

I am currently in Brazil traveling back to NYC tmw. I accidently , .... playing around with my 13 yr old turned on the voice control.voice over (?) and signed in using "portuguese -Brazilian " as the language of choice even though for the past 4 months I had it set to U.S. English. Now it answers only in Music mode, won't move out of it and in a portuguese that sounds more lie martian than any language spoken on earth. Hi,
In our implementation we have defined some custom credit cards. In the "Create Expense Report" iView when I do "Enter Receipts", in the "Available credit card receipts" table the icon of the credit card is shown in the "Credit card company" column. It picks up the icons from the MIME repository and picks ax.gif for american express card, vi.gif for VISA and so on. the names AX, VI etc are defined in customizing.
Now, for our custom credit cards, the icons show up on the browser fine except for one credit card. This one has the key as ER in IMG and I have the icon ER.gif in the MIME repository but the icon never shows up. Everything else is set up same as other credit cards.
Has anyone encountered such a situation before?

Macbook Air mid-2013 suddenly not booting - showed battery icon then died
Hi all,
This morning, I used my Macbook Air (mid-2013) to send an email and check up on my usual stuff, nothing I've not done hundreds of times. I then closed the lid and went to work. Again, nothing I've never done before.
When I got home though, I opened the Macbook and it didn't wake up, which I thought was odd. So I pressed the power button. For a few seconds, it showed an icon in the middle of a black screen that was related to the battery - sorry I can't recall exactly what it looked like, its the first time I've seen it, but it showed an empty battery with a small red part of it left - obviously understood as meaning the battery was flat.
I was puzzled at this; it should have been asleep since I'd closed the lid, how could it have run out? I was only gone for about 8 hours as well, I usually get more battery life than that out of it when I'm actually using it, never mind when its sleeping.
But I thought whatever, and plugged it in for a few minutes to charge it up enough to turn on and maybe see why it had done this. The orange light came on the Magsafe end, but after a few minutes, still nothing.
Cue much panicking and looking around at things, and this is what I've discovered/tried:
- The battery appears to be charging, the light eventually went green.
- When I press the power button, the Mac does power on; I can hear the fan inside if I put my ear to it (note that this means its really quiet, its not blowing at full power or anything), and the Mac is getting hot on the left hand side where the power adapter plugs in. It turns on both when plugged in and when its not. So the battery has power and the machine is turning on, it just isn't booting or doing anything. I can turn it off if I hold the power button down for about 3 seconds, the fan stops. But everything else is completely unresponsive. Also, it gets quite hot pretty quick, hotter than it normally does when in use.
- I've reset the SMC, several times. When I do this, the light on the Magsafe goes green for a second, then back to orange, as though I've just plugged it in. I guess this means it is responding to the SMC reset, but it does nothing in terms of getting the thing started. This is the first thing people suggest with this problem, but I've already done it and while it seems to be doing its thing, it doesn't fix the problem.
- I've tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM. This has no noticeable affect on anything.
- I've tried holding a bunch of different keys when starting up (cmd+R etc.) but again, nothing.
- I've tried something crazy suggested in another thread; leaving the Macbook partially opening and shaking it, which supposedly does something to the "sudden motion sensor". I wouldn't have tried this but a whole bunch of people said it worked for them, but it does nothing for me. The fact this step didn't work is why I made a new thread; because the issue with those people seemed to be that their Macs wouldn't wake up from sleep/hibernation and shaking it somehow did that, or they just magically woke up on their own.
And at this stage I seem to have run out of thing to try.
I've made an appointment at the Genius bar but the earliest they could do is Saturday, which is pretty crappy and I'm going travelling in less than 2 weeks, so I really need my Macbook to sort out the details since a lot of info about it is on there exclusively.
Does anyone know any reason why this might have happened?
Why would the battery drain so fast when it was supposed to be sleeping?
Why will it now not boot at all, even though it's powering up in some way? Could it not booting be related to the fact the battery seemed to run completely flat, and this has done something to the software or hardware?
Any suggestions beyond what I've tried already?
If I can't get it working before my Genius appointment, I'll post what happens here just in case any one else has this issue so people will have an idea of what might have happened to them.

You could try booting the MBP using the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys and see if it will connect to the Apple servers. This would allow you to install the original OSX . I have my doubts though.

The Sudden Motion Sensor is applicable for conventional Hard Drives, not the SSD that is in a MBA. Doing that will serve no useful purpose.
You have exhausted all reasonable options and will just have to have the MBA evaluated at the genius bar.

I have sony svz13114gxx laptop with xfce4 DE, i just tried to hook up external vga monitor to laptop and everything configures right (no mirroring) with this run in normal session:

This is where the problems start. On reboot Slim desktop manager seems to be stretched properly across the two monitors, but the I login and the display switches back to being mirrored, my xfce gtk2 theme is disabled in favor of somee default looking one, my icons are back to default, and none of my custom keyboard shorcuts work.
I can then use xrandr to get the displays in extended mode again, but the themes and icons etc do not revert. And on reboot, i have the same issue.
I have tried the sourcing ~/.xprofile, ~/.xinitrc, and ~/.config.xfce4/xinitrc routes, putting the xrandr cammands above the exec lines and that doesn't even enable VGA1.

This is where the problems start. On reboot Slim desktop manager seems to be stretched properly across the two monitors, but the I login and the display switches back to being mirrored, my xfce gtk2 theme is disabled in favor of somee default looking one, my icons are back to default, and none of my custom keyboard shorcuts work.
I can then use xrandr to get the displays in extended mode again, but the themes and icons etc do not revert. And on reboot, i have the same issue.
I have tried the sourcing ~/.xprofile, ~/.xinitrc, and ~/.config.xfce4/xinitrc routes, putting the xrandr cammands above the exec lines and that doesn't even enable VGA1.

I'm using XFCE as well, 2 monitors, the left one rotated 90º. The main difference it's that I've the 'Virtual' option inside 'SubSection'; not sure if it's relevant. -
Error while posting in PRFI (Travel Management)

I am facing a problem while posting travel expenses to FI,
when i execute PRFI i am getting a message "For the ISO code INR there is no unique SAP currency code for ALE". It is not an error message and trip will be posted with postable amounts. But when i try to post it in PRRW it is giving an error message "An error occurred in ALE Customizing".
Please let me know why the system is throwing this error.

In FK03 you press F4 in the vendor field and the pop-up window to search Vendors will show up.
This pop-up window has different tabs, and the 5th tab is saying Vendors by personal number. You can also select it from the list clicking on the icon in the right upper corner.
So, this is how you get to the personal number. Then you introduce the number and search vendors using this number.
And you will get more than 1 match, while for TM to identify the vendor it must be just 1 match.

Ipod usb travel charger works with mi
interesting little find, so my wife got this external travel charger thingy for her ipod, you know for those times when you are away from your computer. the thing is cube-ish, plugs into the wall, and has a USB-A slot on the slide. you are meant to charge your ipod by pluggin in the usb cable. it also charges the shuffle. you plug the shuffle directly into it, but then i looked at it closer. 5v output with A. wait a minute. that's the same as my MICRO's travel charger. so i grabed my usb cable and my micro and hooked it up. and lo and behold, IT WORKS. so if you have an ipod, or shuffle, or know someone that has this usb travel charger, it'll work on your micro too. and you get one in the states for about $30 and they can be found just about any place that sells ipod crap.

I have a problem. I was happily deleting and moving some emails from my Inbox on my ipad when all of a sudden, the messages just disappeared!!! When I tried to get to that page again, the address reads"mail.google.com/mail/mu/mp/12#tl/Inbox. So from Inbox down to All mail, the message just says"no offline messages" However, I still have messages in the business plan, travel etc boxes. I can view my inbox messages via the message icon in my iPad.
I went to see an Apple store, I am based in Patong, Phuket, Thailand, where I bought it sometime in November last year. The technician could see the messages in my inbox from his Mac via direct connection through gmail whereas I couldn't. As there is a language problem and I am an IT virgin, it all sounds double Dutch to me when he tried to say something about my server, and I had to take it down to an authorized apple service provider in town. I don't really want to do it unless it is the last resort as I have only my iPad, and I am sure it will take at least a week to be sorted out. Would greatly appreciate any help.

BenMessages should work with the email address that you use for your Apple ID. You have to be signed into that email address in order for any other email address that you have added to work.
You should add your iPhone number to your Apple ID on the iPad, and then select that as the contact address at which you can be reached and all of the messages between the phone and the iPad will sync again.

Unknown Travel Costs in a Purchase Order
We have the problem, that we have Consulting Companys that don't offer a special
travelrate, so the price is always different (hotel, taxi, flight etc always differs).
How do you handle this?
Do you create an extra item "travel costs" ? What Quantitiy and Order Unit do you choose? With what quantity
do your people book the "goods receipt" or don't you need the "goods receipt" for this item?
What price do you write in the PO?

One suggestion is,
You can use FI postings i.e. FB50 to book charges against a WBS. Use relevant Cost elemnts for travel, cab etc and charge the WBS on debit line item.
Create WBS (TRAVEL EXPENSES )
Create cost activities (HOTEL CHARGES , CAB CHARGES etc.)
Click the PS text overview icon in cost plan screen (Overview(s):)
In that text as E (Employee)
Text Type = enter the employee number
In description maintian the employee name
In order maintain the PS texts you need to create the same in SPRO -- PS-- Documents --- Define text type for PS texts.
Here you maintain your employee details so that you can select these details in cost plan view.
I think this only possible way other then your suggestion(Matreil).
Ex:
Some group of employees are travelling
Cost Plan 1000
In PS text overview you can maintain the detial how many employees are travelled and what are they names.

Problems saving on a travel drive used for both my mac and pc
I have both an ibook and a pc laptop, so I use a Memorex travel drive to store many of my documents that I use on both computers. Since I have MSWord for Mac and MSWord on my PC, the majority of the files are Word files.
However, here's my problem: Many times, I will save a Word document from my Mac to the travel drive, and the next time I open the travel drive (whether on the Mac or PC), there is a 1kb file of whatever the saved document was, with the same name as the actual document, but with a ._ before the text. For example, a 45 kb file named "CrimSummary" is saved as such, but a 1kb file named "._CrimSummary" shows up on the travel drive as well. When I open this 1kb document, it is just 5 or so lines of symbols and such.
This whole ordeal happends with about half of the documents I save from the Mac onto the travel drive. It usually (maybe always) saves a functional copy of the document, so it does not seem to be saving this 1kb file instead of the actual file, but it makes me feel that there is something wrong with this situation. At first I thought I was ejecting the travel drive incorrectly, but I do not think that is the case - I eject both the travel drive icon and the "U3 system files" that came along with the drive - then pull the drive out. The drive is still lit, but I do not get any error messages, so I believe I am doing it correctly.
Further, I have a few strange files on the drive that are appearing: ".DS_Store", "Bootex", and a folder called ".trashes".
I really just want to iron this out, as I save very important documents on the drive and hope that this is not indicative of a larger issue with either laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

In OS X you don't see them, though Windows does pick them up.
You can safely ignore and delete them without worry.

Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8 but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio. I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!

I'm not sure if this will be a help or not. I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced. However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip. While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old. I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU. I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track. Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter. Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force. To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities. To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All." Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform" then "Velocity Limiter." In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.

Why do I receive a 'gear' icon instead of the Apple icon when starting up iPad2?
Hello all,
I searched the iPad community forums with no luck. My younger brother won an iPad2 at his 20th anniversary High School reunion, since he already had an iPad2 he suggested we give it as an Anniversary present to our parents. Since our parents are going to Italy this fall I thought it was a great idea as they will be able to use it as a resourse while traveling as well as keep us updated regarding their travels. (They have been amazed and curious at my iPhone 3GS and our iPads so we thought it would be great way to introduce them to a tablet.)
When they first turned on the iPad2 last night we received an image of what appears to be a gold/bronze mechanical gear instead of the familar Apple logo. Instead of the normal home screen we recieve the following screen. (http://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz32/ScotchManGSO/ipad2screen.png) The home screen was initially fun to look at due to the pop culture references built into the icons. (Being a Star Wars fan the 'AT-AT' Walker icon was my favorite.)
Unfortunately the fun quickly wore off as we could not restore the iPad2 to the factory defaults using iTunes. (By the way, the iPad2 capactiy only indicated 11GB instead of 16GB.)
My best guess, although I just entered the world of Apple back in 2009 with my iphone purchase, is that the iPad does not have the iOS loaded. In moving through the applications it appears that the applications are designed to test the iPad display, charging, gryoscope, etc.
Any help in restoring the iPad2 to the normal home screen would be appreciated greatly!What you have there is either a jailbroken unit with some crazy custom UI or an eastern knockoff. Give us some photos of the ipad itself, mainly the back and some experts can help.
If you plug it into iTunes does iTunes even acknowledge that an ipad is connected? If it does then try a restore.
Failing that, head down to an apple store and see what they can do for you.

Mini-CD stuck in DVD drive - I'm an idiot.
