Traveling to China / Hong Kong - Ac Adapter

I have to go to China (Guangzhou and Hong Kong) in a couple of weeks. I have a S10 - model 4231 laptop. Does anyone know if I can use a power converter to run my laptop and charge the battery, or will I just need an adapter for the existing three prong plug to charge it. I appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks

You should be able to use your S10 AC adaptor anywhere in the world since it is normally universal. Just check that the input on the adaptor says 100-240V, it should. What you need is just a suitable outlet adaptor so that it can plug into the AC outlet overseas. You can get a universal outlet adaptor for this purpose.

  • Mac App Store Hong Kong uses Simplified Chinese!!! No more Traditional Chinese?  Why?

I entered the Mac App Store Hong Kong using my Hong Kong Apple ID.  I was expecting to see the names and descriptions of apps  to be using Traditional Chinese characters.  But what I saw was Simplified Chinese instead.
How can I turn them back to Traditional Chinese?

I was talking about the OS X App Store on Mac, not the iOS App Store that you showed on iTunes.
While the mainland China has simplified Chinese and made Simplified Chinese commonly used in mainland China, Hong Kong has remained its traditional learning, teaching and using Traditional Chinese as the dominant and main written language in all non-English newspapers in Hong Kong and the education environment.  In addition, the phrases in Traditional Chinese are not the same as those in Simplified Chinese.
Thus, while the OS X App Store in mainland China is using Simplified Chinese, the OS X App Store in Hong Kong should be provided in Traditional Chinese.

  • Should I purchase CDMA or GSM iPhone for use in U.S. and Hong Kong/China?

I currently have an unlocked GSM iPhone 4 that I bought in Hong Kong, and have been using it in the US through Straight Talk. I love having the flexibility of an unlocked phone when I travel. Unfortunately, the GSM networks in my area are pretty spotty, and Verizon's CDMA coverage is MUCH better. Not to mention the data speed is really slow.
I'd like to purchase an unlocked iPhone 5s without a contract, and hopefully be able to use it on the CDMA network here in america, while still have GSM available for use when I travel back and forth to Asia.
The pros and cons of GSM vs. CDMA iPhones are still pretty muddy for me, but it sounds like buying a CDMA iphone would be better for my situation because I could utilize both networks when traveling, and yet have the best speed/coverage in my current home in the US.
Straight talk or Page Plus is what I'm looking to for carriers. Verizon's too expensive for me.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Does my choosing CDMA seem to be the best choice? Or are there any cons regarding purchasing CDMA that I've overlooked? I've heard people say there is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iphone. My biggest concern is that I arrive in Asia and find that some CDMA lock prevents me from using any other carrier--CDMA or GSM. (Both networks are available there, btw.) I need to make sure I can use data and make calls when I'm there.
    2. If a CDMA iphone is the best choice for me, how do I purchase the right one without a contract? Apple store? Verizon? Straight Talk (do they sell CDMA iphones)?Canada? Ebay seems kinda risky to get an iPhone with the specifications I need.
    3. Does a CDMA iphone still have the slot for sim cards? That's how I've always switched carriers when in Asia.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that StraightTalk disabled their iphone's GSM capabilities. Guess I won't be going there to buy one.
    A few follow-up questions...
So is a SIM slot only used for GSM? This is something I never knew. I assumed for any network (GSM or CDMA) that a new sim card was the way you changed numbers/networks.
I've heard people mentioning that they've been able to buy Verizon iphones and use them on PagePlus, but this information was a year or two old, so perhaps things have changed with the newer models/carrier contracts. Do you know of any people who have had success in using a Verizon iPhone 5s on the PagePlus network?

iPhones purchased from the online Apple Store in Australia will be unlocked. To the best of my knowledge, unlocked iPhone are not available from the physical Apple Stores at this time, though you can call the Apple Store in Melbourne and inquire.
Note that the warranty on iPhones is not international, so if you purchase an iPhone in Australia and it needs service, you would have to ship the iPhone to someone in Australia to take or send to Apple for service and then ship it back to you.
    Regards.

  • China, VPN via Hong Kong

    Hi guys,
I'll need some advice and info on this subject:
A client of a magazine splits his time between Israel & China. While he is in china, loading folios process in library is always failed. My first guess was; I don't have a GAPP license, so China blocking the answers from Adobes' cloud, and I was right… (see "Distribution of DPS content in China") But, and it's the weirdest thing, the client use VPN to surf via Hong-Kong and got no problem to watch YouTube, surf sites from around the world etc'… the only thing he can't do online (via the VPN of course) is to update the library.
Any ideas what is the problem? Is DPS can't use VPN as access point?  Else?
    Thanks

If you install the app from China store, the library should update fine. But folio download will still fail without the GAPP license.

  • Create a new company DB in Hong Kong Localization

    Hallo,
I have to create a new company DB with Hong Kong Localization, but I can't find it in the list.
You can see that in the attached file.
Should I choose P.R.China Localization and than Hong Kong as Country or may be a bug?
    Thank you for your cooperation.
    Michela

    Hi Michela,
I found today your post in which I'm really interested in.
How did you solved the problem about HK Localization?
Did you realized that an HK Localization actually exist or did you finally adapted the PRC Localization?
As soon as IT services install the new HK company the localization translate everything inside SAP B1 NewCO in Chinese.
We finally find the preference to switch the various menus into English, though it seems that - except for normal menus and  - all other operative windows may present chinese indication.
    Here a sample image:
Whatever we do we are not able to make SAP translate those voices in chinese and some other we find going around inside the system.
Do you have the same problem? or did you manage to solve it.
In addition whenever we prin any situation from the newco, every report comes out written in chinese.
The only solution they could sugest is to create and import some reports from UK localization in order to have those reports we may need in english.
On my opinion this is an unsatisfactory solution.
Looking forward to read from you
Thanks in advance for you kindness
    Regards

    Hello
Will my iPhone work in Hong Kong? Does anyone know if there are any concerns regarding traveling with your iPhone?
Apple is in talks with China to sell a iPhone model there... I would suggest waiting to buy one till it is sold there if you live there.
If you are just traveling on AT&T's network then I would suggest calling AT&T and seeing if their iPhone international voice and data plans extend to China and if so get the monthly plan while you are in China.. Still while in China I would suggest turning off Edge service while there unless you need it

  • What is the model number of the unlocked iPhone 5s sold in hong kong?

Under apple's tech spec section they show 4 model numbers for Hong Kong but don't indicate which one is the unlocked version - the way they show data is very confusing - even if you put the phone in your shopping cart it shows a different "part number" than the model numbers shown for hong kong. I'm trying to compare bands and frequencies as I live in mainland China, and will be headed back to the US to live in about a year.

Thanks, but still I need to know what is the model number (written on the Back)  of the unlock iphone 5S that sold in UK?

  • Are Student Editions available for Hong Kong?

And are there resellers for student edition licenses in Hong Kong/China?

Unfortunately, you are far from the only ones having this problem. See for example this post:
    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Software-Updates/Nokia-603-700-or-701-without-FP1-please-post-countr...
You will see there that I have found users posting similar problems from The USA, Colombia, The UK, Italy, Germany,  Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Macedonia, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
So far as I can tell, Nokia is still plugging the FP1 upgrade on its web site in all these countries except Hong Kong and Taiwan, where it was shown as available until very recently, but where reference to it has recently been removed.
    Keep pressing.
    Good luck

  • How can Hong Kong addresses be displayed correctly in Contacts?

The address format used in China is the reverse of that used in the West, with the country displayed first and with the street address on the last line. Hong Kong is politically part of China, but uses the Western address format. Unfortunately, on upgrading to Mountain Lion all addresses showing Hong Kong as the Country were arbitrarily assigned the Chinese address format resulting in them displaying upside down. Apple needs to eliminate this.
One can manually correct wrongly displayed addresses by changing an individual address format to a non-Chinese format, but why should we have to do this to correct a mistake by Apple?

A typical Hong Kong postal address has the following lines and
    fields:
    Room/Flat, Floor, Block
    Name of estate/village/building
    No. and name of street/road
    Name of area/district
    Country (= Hong Kong)
There are no postal codes in Hong Kong.
    Any questions, let me know.
