Traveling to Ireland (I'm in USA). What is best w...

I'll be in Ireland for 2 weeks.  Wondering best way to use Skype.  I would like to be able to connect with USA friends and family - via phone only.  I will have an iPad and iPhone with me.

There are two ways I have used both. You can buy skype credit and call that way or you can buy a US subscription in which you can call landlines or mobiles. Of course you need to be on wifi for these calls. If your friends and family get a skype account you can call for free from your ipad to their computer, or your phone using the skype app over wifi.
If you found a post useful, please give Kudos. If it helped to fix your issue, mark it as a solution to help others.
Thank You!

  • HT1807 I am travelling to Ireland and would like to know what type of power converter I will need in order to charge my Iphone 4S

I am travelling to Ireland and would like to know what typw of power converter I will need in order to charge my IPhone 4S.

The iPhone charger is capable of using any voltage from 100 to 240v.  So you won't need a converter.  All you will need is a plug adapter like this:  http://www.adaptelec.com/wa7-travel-plug-adapter-for-england-ireland-etc-type-g- bs-1363-p-3.html

  • While traveling in Ireland and riding on hotel WiFi, emails sent from iPhone not always received -- some were, some were not.  All were shown as sent on my iPhone.

While traveling in Ireland last week, I was using my iPhone 5 to access my incoming email and to send email.  All of my outgoing emails are shown as sent but not all were received.  Not a function of whether emails were replies or particular addressees -- some emails to same addressees received, others not.  Help would be appreciated.

That sounds like a local WiFi issue...can you login to the email server of your email provider?  If so, you can check and see if the emails you sent reached the server.
Providers like Verizon, and AT&T, and Comcast in the US have direct login capability for subscribers...there you can check your account activity and see if the emails were received by the server to send on.  The iPhone merely shows you that the email left the iPhone, nothing about what happened after that.

  • When travelling from US to UK and France what do I need to charge macbook and iPhone?

When travelling from US to UK and France what do I need to charge macbook and iPhone?

Just a pin converter and your Apple US Power adapters (100-240v 50/60Hz)
The European sockets take 2 x round pins, adapter available from  in most drug stores carrying travel aids as is the UK pin converter.
UK is heavier 3 x rectangular pins

I"m traveling to Europe for several weeks. What's the best converter and how will this effect my computer over time?

Right! Our regular power bricks cover the gamut of 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz that will take care of everything save, say, a failing portable generator chugging in the tip of the Alps...
And you can drink the Apple koolaid and purchase the Official $40 Apple Adapter Kit ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB974ZM/B?fnode=MTY1NDEwMQ ) that will look chic and color matched to your brick, or do as Kappy says and get a regular equivalent from the nearest Radio Shack

If it's an original iPhone, you may as well dispose of it responsibly and buy a new phone. Apple stopped servicing them a while ago.

  • I am traveling to Australia and want to know what I need, in the form of converters/adapters to be able to safely recharge.

I am traveling to Australia and need to know what I need, converter, adapter, etc. to safely charge?

Apple power supplies (bricks) work on all voltages and frequencies in the world, so it doesn't matter where you come from or where you go to ......
You will need an adaptor to make the wall plug provided fit in the Australian sockets, buy that at the airport when you get there.
    That's it

  • Is there any difference between an unlocked Iphone sold in australia and the USA and if i bought one from the USA what would I have to do to use it.

Is there any difference between an unlocked Iphone sold in australia and the USA and if I bought one from the USA what would I have to do to use it.

An unlocked phone is an unlocked phone.  It's sold without a SIM card.  You have to get a SIM card from the carrier you want to use, with an account set up, insert the SIM and activate the phone in iTunes.
Unlocked phones sold by the USA online Apple store can only be shipped to a US address and paid for by a US credit card
The only difference between an officially unlocked iPhone sold in the US and Australia is the warranty.  The warranty is valid only in the country of sale.  If you buy the phone in the US and return to Australia, if it breaks you have to ship it to a US resident who will get it to Apple and return it to you.  It can't be shipped direct in either direction.

  • Want to buy new ipad mini.  What is best carrier for overseas travel?  Are all carriers month to month?

Want to buy a new ipad mini.  What is best carrier for overseas travel?  Are all plans month to month?

No. Most plans from major carriers are minimum term contracts - usually two years. Month to month providers require you buy an unlocked device that may then be permanently tied to their service.

  • I will be traveling to Ireland - is there a way to purchase a microsim card before I leave, or must I wait until I get there and go to a store, like Vodaphone?

You need to wait and get it from a carrier in Ireland.  Besides, you'd be bummed if you could buy something here and then it didn't work there.  Good thing you'll need to wait.

  • Hi, i want to buy a licence of Creative Cloud, but i have one question... Whats the best choose for a little enterprise?? And if i buy a Single Person Licence, on how many pc's can i install the suite??

Hi, i want to buy a licence of Creative Cloud, but i have one question... Whats the best choose for a little enterprise?? And if i buy a Single Person Licence, on how many pc's can i install the suite??
    Thanks for helping

    no, that's incorrect.
you can activate on 1 mac and 1 pc, or 2 pc's, or 2 mac's, concurrently.
i have cc installed on 2 pcs and 1 mac.  i can only activate 2 at any one time which works well for me because my pcs are at home and my office and i use them most of the time.
but when i travel i take my macbook so i just deactivate one or both of my pcs (uninstalling is not needed) and sign in to my macs cc app.

  • In iLife08 what is best setting to convert avi 720 and digital video 1080i

What is the bottom line for best quality for 720 p TV.
1.) My import is digital video 1080i to i Movie 08 (full quality)
What should I use for sharing on AppleTV
    - the preset Large (which is 960x 540)
    - or some custom setting 25 fps at 1220x 720? ( H.264 display dimensions at 24/25 fps is 720p (1280x720) ) - or what should the setting be??
2.) Have Windows avi older 720 *480 video, what is best setting to convert this for Apple TV? The 640 setting on QuickTime premium is not very good
    Thank you so much. Peter

Your best option if you are using NTSC footage in imovie is the export to/movie large (960 x 540) at 30 fps, the resolution won't go any higher and still work on the tv. Don't even think about changing the framerate to 24/25 fps, even though you'll be able to export to 720p (1280 x720) changing the framerate will make your video jerky.
If you are using PAL then yes you could export to 720p (even though the specs say 24 fps, 25 fps does in fact work as well), you could try a few tests yourself but I've already done them and IMHO there is so little difference between 960 x 540 and 1280 x 720 that it isn't worth messing about setting up and trying several manual exports to get the best results when you can click one button and be done.
So far a AVI conversion is concerned, I'd try mpegstreamclip, but saying that I can't really be sure. AVI is a container not a codec and I would need to know what codec is actually used inside the container to answer your question properly (Quicktime may tell you though). The problem with AVI is that it is simply so old (even microsoft abandoned it over 10 years ago), unfortunately in a small number of cases some of the codecs that were used in AVI are simply no longer able to be converted. Probably not so likely but at least you are warned.
