Traveling with ipod

I am traveling with an ipod and would like to download podcasts from my laptop to my ipod without erasing all my music (my music is on my home desktop)? Is there a way to do this? If so, how?

In Windows close iTunes.
Connect the iPod & immediately press & hold Shift + Ctrl to stop it from autosyncing.
Keep holding the Shift + Ctrl until the iPod is mounted in iTunes.
Once it ha stoped trying, select the iPod in iTunes them tick Manually manage music.
You will not have to hold the keys from now on.

  • Traveling with ipod 60 for music and photos

hello, so here is the deal: i just bought an ipod 6o gb photo so i could listen to music and download photos off my digital camera when i am traveling in south east asia for the next 5 or so months. problem #1: i have an older ibm thinkpad with windows xp and i am reading horror stories of trying to get my music put onto the ipod. i can deal with that problem by using my friends apple computer to put music on, but then am i going to be able to pull my photos off my ipod and put them on my computer after the trip. any help would be appreciated, thanks eric

I have a similar travel situation, but different question. I, too, am traveling for 6 or more months throughout the east with a 60GB ipod & camera setup. I'm wondering if anyone has experience w/being able to take your music collection on a portable harddrive, and using a computer in various internet cafes to create new playlists or edit your itunes library and re-sync your ipod? I'm trying to avoid carrying my laptop along w/me, but still have the flexibility of editing the music & audiobook content on my ipod. Can itunes be installed on the harddrive, so that it can be opened from any computer, or does itunes have to be installed directly on the computer that I may be using at an internet cafe? If so, has anyone found luck w/having the on-site person allow you to install itunes on their workstations? Any suggestions?

  • International travel with iPod

I'll be traveling to Germany this month, and of course I need my Nano for that 9 hour flight.
My husband, who grew up in Europe, told me that I had to get a converter with a European plug to charge the iPod. So I did, though I'm worried about using it, cause I don't want to fry the little thing.
But then a friend of mine said that a lot of the newer electronics don't need a converter, because they are sold internationally. I hadn't heard this, and I can't find anything about that in the Nano's manuals or on the site.
Anyone know for sure if I can just use a plug adapter and plug it into the wall directly in Germany or if I should use the converter? I'm happy either way, I just want to know

    Hello OnyxWolf,
Well, it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a converter such as the one below. It offers a converter for any type of situation you find yourself in. I'm not entirely certain or not if you need one for sure, but I wouldn't risk not having one.

  • Good FM Frequencies to use when travelling with iPod

I've got a few trips coming up and I was wondering where I may find a listing of good frequesncies for my DLO iPod transmitter while driving. I need frequencies for:
    Scranton, Binghampton, Syracuse and Chicago
    Thanks

I read from somewhere that it's best to search for a station with a strong signal, then go 2 frequencies down. So, if your radio picks up 100.7 very strongly, then set your DLO to 100.3 (100.7 -> 100.5 -> 100.3)
Or basically, just use your radio to scan for a frequency that's not being used, and set your DLO accordingly.

  • Traveling with Ipod and using internet shops in Asia

I have been searching for hours but without any luck. I am traveling India and Asia for 3 months. I have an ipod and a laptop. In Asia you can get online at small internet shops but I'm not always able to bring along the laptop and hook it up. Is there a way I can login to itunes download podcasts and video podcasts to the hard drive on the ipod and then if I have to move them to my itunes on my laptop. I am not able to download itunes on every computer in every shop in Asia.
    pc   Windows XP

Thanks mate, I will load it into itunes but first I need to get it from itunes to a memory stick or on to the hard drive of the ipod then I will load it into the ipod so I can listen to them. I am using a public computer that does not have itunes loaded onto it. I want to be able to enter my user name and password and get into itunes download the podcasts to a memory stick and then take that to my computer which has my itunes loaded on it. Thanks for your help.

  • Traveling with iPod Nano

Can I charge my Nano in England with a wall charger and a plug adapter, or do I need a current converter as well? I won't have a computer with me so this looks like my best option, but I haven't been able to figure out if the 220V current will fry my Nano or not.

You will need to purchase the World Travel Adapter Kit. The AC plugs included in the World Travel Adapter Kit directly support outlets in North America, Japan, China, *United Kingdom*, Continental Europe, Korea, Australia, and Hong Kong.

  • Am traveling with my iPod. Possible to add songs onto it from new computer?

I'm currently traveling with my iPod, and I picked up some CDs on the way. I have a new laptop with me, but it's not the computer I used to load my iPod. My iPod is hooked up to my main computer at home, an iMac, on which I store all my music. My laptop is void of all music. I was wondering if it's possible to import my new CDs onto my laptop's "blank" iTunes, then add the new songs to my iPod without erasing any existing music on it. If so, how do you do it?
    Thanks!

If I have the latest iTunes on my laptop, and I connect my iPod to this new iTunes that has nothing on it, will a popup ask me if I want to automatically update, or will it just do it?
A confirmation screen should appear before anything is deleted from the iPod.
Should I press command-option in case to prevent iTunes from automatically updating my iPod and thereby erasing my music?
    Yes.

  • Traveling with Mac Pro problems!!!!!!

I am going to college soon for photography/graphic design/video editing. As a side note I am still advancing with editing as I only have FCE right now. I need to get a new computer and I am torn between the Macbook Pro 17" and the Mac Pro. I will be going to Savannah from the midwest, meaing I will be flying mostly but i could drive sometimes. Does it pay to get a mac pro for the expandibility and then travel with it? Wouldn't that run the risk of damaging it if it was shipped? What about the display? Then again, if I get the macbook pro, I will be limited on running certain programs eventually right? Does any one know if Final Cut Studio 2 will run on a macbook pro 17 inch? I need something that will last about 4-5 years with college and that I can have a decent chance at traveling with to and from college. Thanks for any help!

If you are going to college with a MacBook Pro, max the RAM, get hard drive bigger than stock; for your specific needs, I'd say no smaller than 500G. In addition, make sure you get an external drive for backups. You really don't want to be in the middle of a school project, or 2 hours from due date with your backup at home, or worse yet, no backup.
I know some people like incremental backups or a clone that overwrites the last clone, but I recommend a full backup added to the last full backup. I've heard over and over people relied on a backup that turned out to be corrupt. I have full backups from several years ago of my documents folder (IMHO, system files and preferences are much easier to replace, so I don't backup those as often.) on different external drives and optical media.
For your current needs, it looks like portability is more important and practical. (I found that having my own portable made class notes, study groups, and computer lab time less frustrating.) Anyone I've met who uses high-end cpu/graphic intensive applications regularly, won't find that a portable computer meets their needs for as long as a desktop system - even a high-end portable. So, you might find yourself needing, not just wanting to upgrade sooner than you initially project.
    Good luck on your decision.
Oh yeah. I don't want to forget to remind you that laptop theft on college campuses are high. Look into security options. If you have an iPod, they are more desired and easier to conceal than laptops and will disappear.

  • Any ideas on problem with ipod and alpine cde-9881 car stereo

I have an ipod 60gb v 1.2.1 and a new Alpine car stereo with Ipod connecting cable. When connected, the stereo message reads IPod searching. It never assumes control of ipod,or quits searching. I have reset and restored my ipod, had the apple geek at genius bar check it out. My ipod does not play on the alpine ipod ready stereo in my husband's car, nor the stereos in Car Toys. My husband's 30 gb ipod plays on the stereo in his car AND my car. Help! Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Alpine is telling me it could be a software problem with my ipod, and to revert to an earlier version of itunes. But my husband's ipod works in my car. So I did a restore using his computer and itunes....no luck. am interested in any ideas on a possible solution!!
    Thanks in advance
    md

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.

  • Problems with ipod connection.

    Problems with ipod connection.
I have problems to connect my ipod to computer windows 7.
When I connect I get the following error:
"We encountered an ipod, but could not be identified correctly. Disconnect and reconnect the ipod and try again."
And it recognizes the ipod when trying to go play music or videos make me the following error:
"Error while trying to copy on disk. The device is not connected."
I've uninstalled all apple applications and re-installing, as I formatted the ipod and continues to set the same error.
    What else can I do?

    Hello,
While your symptoms don't exactly match the descriotion, this article may be usefull in discovering if there is a setting on your computer that is causing this to happen.

  • Problems with Ipod Touch

    Problems with iPod Touch.
Hi, I bought an ipod touch in Colombia a couple of months ago but lost the invoice, I tried using it but everytime I connect the iPod to the computer, it restarts over and over again, I've tried all the recommendations show in the Apple support site, but no method has proved the question is, I can take this ipod to a Mac store in the U.S. for repair or change.
I live in Venezuela, there is some Apple store in my country where I can take it.
Thanks in advance for your quick response

You should be able to go to the USA for warrantee service. If you purchased at an Apple store you should be able to go to your account in iTunes and see the purchase. I am confused by your statement:
"I live in Venezuela, there is some Apple store in my country where I can take it."
If you go to the Venezuela apple website you can see if/where there are Apple stores.

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

  • Best USB 2.0 Hub to use with iPods and Mac Mini 2009?

I am using my Mac Mini as my iTunes station, and I have five iPods
that are connected to my master iTunes Station.
Recently I needed to add a USB drive to add more space to the mini.
Along with a wireless keyboard ( that uses a USB transmuting dongle)
I am short two USB ports. Can anyone recommend a good USB hub
that is compatible with iPod Touch, iPod Mini, IPod Shuffle, iPod Classic 30GB,
and iPod Classic 160GB for iTunes synching and charging?

Anyone have any luck with this hub:

looks like the White Belkin one, but is on Amazon for about half the price, and
other than being brown, I don't see a difference?

  • Help on syncing multiple calendars with iPod Touch 4g 64g

In our university, we use iCal with Blackboard. Also, our main *email* is Entourage - pretty sure it's the most recent version for Mac.
How can we sync the Entourage calendar with iCal, and be sure that they are all merged and 2-way functional for the iPod touch and laptops (I know for multiple computers we'll have to set up home sharing - for now let's just focus on the calendar syncing).
I have instructions for syncing Entourage with iPod Touch, and it's been recommended to use Google to sync with iCal (thanks llllass) but we don't want to use Google or MobileMe to get to iCal.  iCal is already built into the iPod Touch, as I'm sure you know.
Any advice on how to make this super simple?
    Thanks in advance.

My first suggestion is to try Stanza, as it is a much more configurable ebook reader.  You can use the
Calibre (ebook management/conversion utility) to transfer ebooks from your computer to your iPod Touch.
    <http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30657/calibre>
Looking at iBooks on my iPod Touch, my font selection and font size are only present when I have an ebook open.  If I tap the center of a page, the top edge of the screen has
Library | Table of Contents | Brightness | aA (font size, and font selection) | Search | Bookmark
Where the aA icon brings up a control that has a small a and a large A.  If I tap on the large A, each tap increases the font size until it gets REALLY BIG.  Tapping on teh small a reduces the font size for each tap.
Landscape lock.  OK for the iPod Touch as a whole, you put the iPod Touch in the orientation you desire, then you quick double-tap on the home button.  This will bring up a list of your running apps.  Now slide the list to the right, and you will see music controls as well as on the far left a screen lock button.  Tap the screen lock button to lock your iPod Touch in its current orientation.  Unlock it later when you want your iPod Touch to be able to rotae again.
NOTE:  Stanza as an ebook reader, it has its own configuration control that locks Stanza into a specific orientation, independent of the iPod Touch orientation or the iPod Touch orientation lock.  Another reason I like Stanza.
Wallpaper.  I think you can only change it to something else.  Settings -> Wallpaper, then tap on the screen you want to change.  Now select a different Wallpaper from either the Wallpaper selections, or anything in your Camera Roll, or your Photo Library.
