Traveling with your iPad? A warning.

If you are planning on traveling to/through Israel with your iPad, don't. Israel has banned the iPad there and is confiscating them from travelers. The problem is purported to be the WiFi frequencies used by the iPad. (Yes, the same frequencies that seem to be OK in laptops and smartphones, which are NOT banned).

Jake81 wrote:
Israel is banning iPads for the same reason some universities such as Princeton are banning them from their networks. The ipad's wifi signal operates on a frequency that doesn't play nice with other machines on the network.
Not exactly.... Israel is not allowing iPads because of a radio frequency concern, while Princeton is requiring students with iPads to follow certain steps to make sure they do hold onto their DHCP lease longer than they should. Princeton has asked Apple for a fix and in the meantime has advised their students to follow certain guidelines to make sure it renews the lease when appropriate. Only in extreme cases will they prohibit an iPad from accessing their network- if the student follows their guidelines they will have no problem.

First, for the forum view issue. Go to My Settings (on the right) and in General Settings change the Topic Page View to Flat. Click Save. Posts should show up in the order they were written.

Also, since you said that you've gone through the 5 Rs, I would assume that you used the iPod Updater to restore (since there is no other way of doing it and you don't "run" the 5 Rs).
When you restored, did you use the latest updater?
You may also want to try formatting the iPod through Windows. Connect it to the computer and when it appears in My Computer right click it and go to format. Does anything happen? Can you format the iPod through Windows?

  • 64 GB 3G iPad: There is a problem with your iPad

I just got my 3G iPad and I have this error when plugging in my iPad for the first time:
after waiting for the "Waiting for iPad..." message to end, iTunes shows this:
There is a problem with your iPad
We're sorry, the iPad you connected is not recognized and cannot be activated for service.
We recommend you visit your nearest Apple Store for more information.
To find your nearest Apple Store, click here.
This is a bummer. I just software-updated my MacPro to the latest version of iTunes, too. Are Apple's servers swamped due to the 3G release or do I really have to take it into the Apple Store?

I phoned a manager at a local Apple Store and he suggested trying to get the iPad into restore mode. Holding the "power button" (as I call it, they call it the screen lock button) and the home button reboot the iPad, and iTunes no longer had that "There is a problem with your iPad" screen. I was able to press the restore option in iTunes, and subsequently reinstall the iPad to its "factory setting."
I'm now restoring the iPad 3G from a backup of my iPad Wi-Fi. There was a bit of a delay at the "Waiting for activation" portion of the process, but I'm past that and it's installing a ton of my apps. Hopefully useful for anyone else who gets that error screen.

  • Your contacts are being synced with your iPad over the air from iCloud

tl;dr: iPhone works properly with iTunes 11.1 and iPad does not. Can't sync with both iTunes and iCloud to separate, distinct Calendar/Contact/Notes groups.
    Explanation:
Ever since iTunes 11 was released (I'm on 11.1 now) I'm unable to sync Contacts, Calendars, and Notes via iTunes because I'm using over the air syncing from iCloud. As late as iTunes 10.7, this was okay, because "On My PC" groups would sync perfectly with iTunes, and iCloud groups would sync perfectly with iCloud.
In fact, this still works, today, but only on my iPhones.
However on the iPad I get the message "Your contacts are being synced with your iPad over the air from iCloud." (Well, yeah, I know that. My iCloud contacts should continue to sync via iCloud. I don't want to turn off this behavior.)
The "workaround" used to be sticking to iTunes 10.7, which had correct behavior for both iPad and iPhone. Of course iOS7 nuked that option.
Is anyone aware of another workaround? (Merging my professional Outlook stuff into my iCloud stuff is not a workaround.)

I can place a bounty. $20 USD to your Paypal account for a fix.

  • How to do a twittcam with your iPad,.

Hello how can I start a twittcam with an iPad and iPhone 4

MOSt twitter clients have a camera button. Which app are you using?

  • When you download a movie with your ipad, to play it back to you need access to the internet to play it

when downloading a movie to your ipad, is there a way to download it, so when you play it back you do not have to have access to the internet?

If it has been fully downloaded (or synced from your computer's iTunes) then you should be able to watch it in the iPad's Videos app without needing to be online.
If it's a rental then I've seen some posts saying that you need to be online when starting to play it (which you could whilst you still have internet access, though rentals only last for 24 hours in the US, 48 hours elsewhere, after starting to play them).

  • After restoring my iPad Mini, iTunes showed "There is a problem with your iPad", what to do?

Help please.. what to do with my iPad??

that message does not give you alot to go on....
I would try to sync again, and see what happens. If that does nmot work, try a DFU restore.  If that fails, I fear you are going to need to go to the store for their help.

  • Traveling  with your iPhone...

I'm traveling for the 1st time with my iPhone in a few weeks and was wondering if it is OK to put it under the airport security xray scanners. Has anyone had this experience? Will it "hurt" my iPhone?

I just put it in the little tray with my keys and other such objects. No problem from x-rays yet.
On another topic: it seems lithium batteries are now totally prohibited in checked luggage, so you HAVE to carry your iPhone on.

  • If you are having issues connecting to wifi with your Ipad, READ THIS

My son recently could not connect to the home wifi. After almost a year of having no issues, it came on overnight sort-of-speaking.   I spent over three hours doing all the resets and tried anything that was talked about online.  This could be your issue too. WHEN YOU SET UP YOUR ROUTER, IT WILL HAVE A PASSCODE/PASSWORD/PASSPHRASE (different routers may call it differently), this is usually a series of letters and numbers.  YOU WILL ALSO SET UP A PASSWORD TO ACCESS YOUR HOME NETWORK FROM ANY OF YOUR DEVICES.  THE TWO ARE VERY DIFFERENT, THE PASSWORD THAT THE IPAD WANTS IS NOT THE NETWORK PASSWORD, IT IS THE PASSWORD OF THE ROUTER.
This makes no sense to me, but it worded.  I have a CISCO router and Mercury Net for an Internet provider.  As I was working on getting my issue solved, I ran across a post that said this same thing about a different router and provider, so I thought why not try it, nothing to lose.  IF IT WORKED FOR TWO DIFFERENT ROUTERS AND PROVIDERS, THIS COULD BE YOUR PROBLEM AS WELL.
To start with, I did not know the passphrase to my roouter.  I reset the router to factory default and followed a few steps for security and other things.  Along the reset, there was a page that showed the passphrase.  If you do not have your router passphrase, this may be your best bet.  I am by no means a professional when it comes to computers, but I am not affraid to try a few things when needed.  This was not too hard and it will not be for you either.
    Good Luck
If you need more information, let me know, I will try to help.
    Thanks for reading

I'm glad you had luck with this.  I have the same issue, and i've replaced the droid turbo 4 times.  I've tried it on 4 or 5 different wifi networks and it doesn't give me any type of speed at all.

  • Travel with an ipad

I am going to Great England in August. Will I have any problems charging my ipad ? What specific items will I need to avoid a problem ?

Well, now I'm puzzled. I got a Targus World Power adapter at Best Buy, and it's got the different plugs used in various countries, but the instruction manual says (in bold print)
THIS PRODUCT IS NOT A VOLTAGE CONVERTER
I know the UK's power comes out at 240 volts. Will I burn out my iPad and iPod without getting a voltage converter?
The Apple charger "block" works on the same principal as the thermos bottle (which somehow knows whether you want to put hot or cold liquids in it).
In other words, the iPad charger block automatically takes either 240 or 120 volts.  However, you will need a different wall plug.  I think there are about 5 or more models worldwide. Get the correct one, plug you US charger plug into it and then plug the whole package into a UK wall plug.  AFAIK, the same principal works with most if not all of the newer electronic gear (any laptop, any electric shaver, etc, etc).  The only item I've had a problem with in over 50 years of international travel is 110 V emersion heaters.  Plug one of those babies into 240 and they're toast in a second or two.

  • Accepting credit cards with your ipad? anyone do this at your business?

i saw it on tv once and online.. squareup.com has this device that hooks to your phone or ipad to allow you to accept credit cards.. they say the fee is 2.75% of the transaction.. just wanted to know if any other businesses use this and how do you like it?
    thx in advance

I use square and it works fine, but it's really meant for people who don't do a lot of volume. For example, you can do any dollar amount you want, but at first they put a 30-day hold on amounts you receive over a thousand dollars. (They say businesses can negotiate this.) I'm a musician and I just use it for clients who forget the check or who don't have access to paper checks anymore. It works quite well for that.
Intuit also has something similar and theirs includes the option for a relatively inexpensive merchant account, so check them both out. Intuit's page is typical of their site and doesn't mention things like holds, so I don't know how they compare there.

  • When the cell number associated with your ipad in itunes preferences is not yours.

When looking up my ipad's serial number in itunes preferences, there is a cell phone listed with this device that is NOT MINE.
Would there be ANY REASON that the cell phone number attached to my ipad in itunes preferences is not be mine?
Considering my ipad has been missing for several weeks - could this be the cell phone number of the person who has it?
    Thanks

I'm not sure just where you are seeing this phone number, but could it be the "phone" number associated with a data plan? (It's just used as an identifier for the data traffic.)

  • Puerto Rico: Is it roaming charges if you travel with your iPhone?

I am travelling to puerto rico.
I live in the US and I am wondering if I'll be roaming or not.
    Thx

Talke to ATT twice, to confirm what the 1st agent told me.
    SUBJECT:
    iPhone International Roaming
    FACT:
    Apple iPhone
iPhone users roaming internationally need to be aware of the following:
The unlimited data portion of the iPhone rate plan is limited to domestic use
Data is not unlimited when roaming internationally. When using your service outside the U.S., Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands, international roaming rates apply.
    Decreasing International Data Usage
In order to decrease international data usage, the following options are available to limit automatic or regulated data sessions.
    Disable Email Retrieval
    Tap Settings.
Scroll down and tap the Mail icon.
Tap the first integrated email account.
Slide the email indicator from On to Off .
Click the Mail icon in the upper left hand corner.
Repeat for every integrated email account.
Each account must be turned back on to resume delivery and receipt of email messages.
    Airplane Mode
    Tap Settings.
Slide the Airplane Mode indicator from Off to On.
All voice and data functions of the device are disengaged until this setting is set to Off.
These tips can also help you minimize data usage while roaming internationally:
Utilize WiFi, available in many international hotels, airports, and restaurants to browse the web or check email
Keep Data Roaming "OFF": Be sure to download the Version 1.1.1 upgrade to iPhone. This software update will enable the ability to turn on/off data roaming when traveling outside the U.S . By default, this setting will be in the "OFF" position. The path is: Settings > General > Network > Data Roaming.
Turn off your phone's "auto check" function, and check email manually when needed, using WiFi
Reset the usage tracker to zero when you arrive overseas and monitor your data usage
Consider purchasing an international service plan that includes discounted international data usage. AT&T now offers two discount international data packages. The 20 MB package is $24.99; the 50 MB package is $59.99. See att.com/wirelessinternational for details and international roaming rates.
