Travling to Europe and Google Voice

I am going to Europe and i have a Google Voice account. I got the GVMobile+ app from the app store and it seems to work well. I know Google voice allows you to pay and make cheap calls from the US to Europe, but if i am on WiFi in Europe can i make free calls back to the states?

I have not personally tried it, but quick google search point to this video:

  • Safari 5.1.4 broke Gmail AND Google Voice

Well, this seriously *****. I just updated to Safari 5.1.4 and now Gmail and Google Voice don't function properly. The buttons run away from my mouse and almost nothing is clickable. I

I am a little confused by the issue, everyone here is stating that if Safari is running in 32-bit mode it does show the rendering problems in Gmail. However, when I check information about Safari in the application folder and can see that I have the option to operate Safari in 32-bit mode rather than 64-bit mode. I know for fact that in SL Safari runs in 64-bit mode by default if your system supports it. This makes me wonder if the people in this forum are having problems with Safari 5.1.4 in their Core Duo or 32-bit EFI only Macs which will not use a 64-bit version of Safari. Can anyone explain further? I am really trying to decide whether I will pull the trigger and update.
Thanks for any explanation on this...

  • Google Voice APP and Google Voice will use cell phone minutes.

My Verizon contract has 1400 minutes shared with 3 cell phones. I noticed that my cell number was using minutes from the calling plan. I normally call the other two cell phones, and my home number (which is on my friends of family calling list). My original intention was to be able to hide behind Google Voice and not allow my cell phone number to be broadcast. Google Voice would use whatever phone number was available on their server, make the call, then connect with my cell phone to complete the connection. I didn't notice that my minutes were being used until after someone else reported that they had exceeded their plan minutes after switching their cell phone to use their Google Voice number for outgoing calls.
I called Verizon concerning this issue, and their only response was to contact the third party.
I have now, and informed my friends, to only use their number and change the Google Voice APP, Making Calls setting to "Do not use Google Voice to make any calls".
Just thought others would like to know.

  • RAZR MAXX and Google Voice

Has anyone else had an issue where you open up Google Voice to read your voicemails, then close the app to find that all of the homescreen icons are gone?  There is nothing in the app drawer either.  Up until today, I've been soft resetting the phone each time to get them back.  Today I realized that if I press the search soft key, they will come back up.  Buggy.  I hate this phone.  It is a replacement for a RAZR that was defective.  I'm not sure if it is a Motorola thing, Android, or RAZR.  Either way, I've had so many issues.  This is the latest.  Big Red can't offer me a decent solution.

Have you Tried doing a Reset with and Success of bringing the Icon's coming Back ?  b33

  • Cisco ATA 186 and Google Voice

Does anyone know or have any ideas on how to use a cisco 186 to get Google Voice to work on a Analog phone? Not sure if it's possible or not. I don't see any real info on Google allowing SIP.

  • Google Voice Won't Work With Bluetooth Headset After Jelly Bean

I am SO frustrated. I had no idea I was installing the Jelly Bean update when I updated the software on my phone. Note to Verizon Communications team: PLEASE do a better job of communicating significant software updates. I would not have installed Jelly Bean. I learned long ago to stick with factory OS on my phones.
Since the update, I noticed that I could no longer dictate texts and emails. Also, my call recording app no longer worked. I switched to Swype and it would work for a few minutes and then stop.  I could still use my bluetooth headset to make calls and S voice worked (although, like others here, I noticed that it's now worse--it doesn't recognize any contact names I request anymore). After trolling Android forums I found that the problem is with the bluetooth headset. You can still dictate when the phone's bluetooth is on, but when a device is connected, all bets are off.
I almost did a factory reset, but then I read that a hard reset will not restore ICS, nor did it resolve this bluetooth Google Voice issue for the few people who tried it already. In fact, resetting caused more problems (eg., more battery drain and removal of Adobe Flash, etc.).
Does anyone know how I can go back to ICS? Bluetooth and Google Voice are the two features I value most in my phones. This is a NIGHTMARE.

    rcschnoor -
The Bluetooth/Voice Search/Dictation issue is a valid issue for the OP, a valid issue for me and oh yeah, the hundreds of other people affected by the, "Google Voice Search stuck on "Initializing" bug filed here on the Google Android Project page.  Here is yet another reference to the same issue from Android Central.
The "Google Music freezing after Jelly Bean Update on Galaxy S3" is also a valid and documented bug located here also on the Google Android Project page.
So I ask, how does sharing with these people that do have these issues, and are affected by them, that you are not experiencing these issues help in any way?  Isn't that the whole purpose of a community forum to help others?

  • Google Voice integration problem

    Greetings,
I wanted to see if we could get a response from Verizon on this issue of Google Voice not correctly integrating with the Thunderbolt.  I've noticed two main issues with GV for Thunderbolt.
When trying to go through the steps to set up voicemail, using the Android method of sending the text message from the phone does NOT work.  You must instead set up the phone on the Google voice website, then do the *71XXX-XXX-XXXX (the X being your area code and phone number) in order for voicemail to be set up.
When dialing a number using the keypad, it will display the google voice local trunk number instead of the number you called.  When dialing a contact, it will show the contact name, but it will display the city in which the Google Voice trunk number resides.
HTC/Verizon/Google need to figure this out as it is an integral component to making Android and Google Voice work well together.
    Thanks!
    GB

Perhaps I haven't explained the situation properly.  I agree, number one isn't an issue, as there is a solid workaround, even though it doesn't properaly allow users to set up voicemail.  For number 2, it is a real problem that is NOT evident in any of the other Android devices I have tried.  I have tried Google Voice integration with the OG Droid, Facsinate, Inspire, Droid 2, Atrix and the Thunderblot.  The Thunderbolt is the only one that exhibits this issue.  Usually when you dial a number on Android, it will bring up the little bubble window on top with the Google Trunk number and then show the number or contact you were calling once the bubble disappears.  The Thunderbolt, while it brings up the bubble window with the Trunk number, it still shows the Trunk number after the bubble disappears in the dialer.  This does NOT occur in any of the other devices I have tested.  It is a bug.

  • Google Voice txting not making a notification sound while talking on the phone

Does anyone else have the problem when you recieve a new txt message on google voice, you don't get any kind of notification sound while talking on the phone?  The only way I ever get notified is if I turn the screen back on and see the google voice widget new txt message.  I have tried different things to no avail.  On my old nonsmart phone, I had regular txting and it always notified me with a beep every few minutes until I checked the txt message.  Is there a way to do that at all with the charge and google voice?  Thanks.

It's on 4G LTE   I am getting all of the txt messages, except I am not recieving any sound notification when I am on a call.  Do any of the verizon employees or techs have any suggestions?  Everything is all set up correctly, and it notifies me with a sound just fine as long as I am not on a call.

  • Google voice and google latitude please.

I use Google Voice regularly and it is pain to have to go thru the web interface on the iphone. I really like Google's iPhone apps, and so far all of them are first rate. I ask Apple to allow Google to publish Google Voice and Google Latitude native apps for the iPhone. I see the possibilities of using these apps and I feel that I'm being arbitrarily restricted right now. It's not a good feeling.

You aren't addressing Apple here. Send feedback - http://apple.com/feedback

  • Has anyone tried installing the Google Voice and Video plugin?

    Hi,
I wanted to check out the Hangouts feature at Google+, but I need the Google Voice and Video plugin for that. I tried unpacking the deb package supplied by Google and installing it manually, but the plugin does not work and Firefox just keeps crashing. Could anyone actually get it to work with Arch yet?

  • Google voice doesn't work with os 10.10.2 and firefox 35.0.1?

Google voice used to work with Snow Leopard and FF. Now with Yosemite, I place a call, pick my 'e' mail address, and nothing happens. What am I missing. I did download the googlevoice and video setup.dmg file. and have the google talk plug in 5.40.2.0 always activate.

Same, in the meantime I can offer the new Hello feature in Firefox:

  • ISight conflict when installing Google Voice and Video driver

After installing Google Voice and Video driver, the iSight stops working on Flash based applications or websites.
Two camera drivers are installed: Google camera 0 and Google camera 1.
Even if I go to Settings and choose the correct driver (iSight Integrated), it does't works.
The only way I found to solve this issue is removing those Google's drivers (Library/Application Support/Google/GoogleVoiceAndVideoUnistaller).
However, this is not a solution since I can't use GTalk anymore.
Does Flash Player 10.2 fixes this conflict?

  • MMS, StraightTalk, Google Voice and Hangouts

    Hey all,
I'm thinking of switching my wife's service from T-Mobile to the AT&T side of Straight Talk. I can't find good answers on this, so I'm hoping you can help.  I can't get her phone in front of me for a few days, otherwise I might be able to figure some of this out.
Can she MMS with her iPhone 5s on Straight Talk? I saw something about switching APNs, but I'm not sure.
Can she use MMS if she port my number to Google Voice?
Is there a way to switch the default MMS app to some other program? Like Google Hangouts?
Can you send a picture message through Hangouts (or another app) directly from the picture gallery?
    Thanks!

KT is "officially" right but theoretically and technically wrong. There are literally 10's of thousands of people using the GSM based AT&T and or T-mobile iPhones with  Straight Talk ... It comes with a myriad of headaches and substanrial savings. Right now a single phone user saves more than $540 a year from going with AT&T direct ( Crazy isn't it)  Though the sim swap  / change your apn settings yourself method sort of works.(sometimes) .it is a PITA..
If you use the official straight talk tfdata settings you will be able to make calls, use the internet, get e-mail and text single text to one person at a time all day long, day in day out...where the caveat to this lies is in MMS and sending and receiving pictures especially to non iPhone friends.
If saving $540 a year makes it worth putting up with that inconvenience you're golden..
We are spoiled ..If someone was to tell you here's a phone that will NOT send MMS or Pictures reliably but other than that you can do everything this other phone will do ..and BTW there is this nifty new thing called e-mail that you can send a message to as many people as you like and all the pictures you want instead of MMS'ing......$540 a year for the one that does not, $1080 for the one that does.. The Phone companies break it down by the month...big deal $45 vs $90 ...in 10 years that's $5,400 in savings!  With the money you save you could buy a new iPad every year...Crazy the savings to me makes it majorly worth using..
2 years and holding with ST on an iPhone 3gs...

  • Trouble installing plugin for Google Voice and Video

Just upgraded to Yosemite. After doing so, my Google Voice and Video stopped working. I have re-installed the plugin multiple times with each attempt reaching the "Install Successful" message. I've restarted Safari and my computer, but the Google Voice and Video for Hangouts is still not working. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

    Hello again,
Seems to be fixed in the Firefox new version (4.0.1).
    Best Regards.

  • Number ported out from Google Voice to Verizon not working

I am a new Verizon Wireless customer and I ported my number from Google Voice to Verizon. (number ending in 8466). However, Verizon keeps saying that they are waiting on Google while Google says they have released the number.
    Message from Google:
Google Voice has successfully approved your request, but the carrier to whom you are porting hasn't completed their necessary action. If you are still having issues and your number doesn't successfully port in 2-3 business days, please contact your new carrier for support, as Google Voice is unable to take any additional action.
    Message from Verizon:
Your port request has been submitted, but no response has been received. We expect your port request will be completed within 10 business days.
So obviously there's something wrong here. According to Google they cannot do anything since they have released the number so now it's all on Verizon. I am hoping someone from Verizon can look into this ASAP and escalate if necessary. It's really annoying because at this point I'm not receiving any inbound calls or text messages. I can only make outbound calls and send SMS messages. I understand there is an X number of business days I need to wait but at this point I am paying for a service that I cannot use and no one is able to reach me.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

Thanks sprmankalel but I've already done that. That's where I got the message "Your port request has been submitted, but no response has been received. We expect your port request will be completed within 10 business days."
And when I check on Google Voice's end "Google Voice has successfully approved your request, but the carrier to whom you are porting hasn't completed their necessary action"
    Interesting huh?
