Tray application to shutdown/reboot

Hello all,
I looked around and couldn't find anything so I thought I would ask you all. I am looking for an application that drops an icon in the systray that will let me right click and logout, shutdown, reboot, etc. I use i3 and don't want to move away from i3bar but would still like a graphical option for those commands.
Thanks!

From the Arch wikli, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/i3 … ock_screen
You can use this in your i3 config file ...
# Add a small delay to prevent suspend races
# https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d/+bug/830348
set $Locker i3lock && sleep 1
set $mode_system System (l) lock, (e) logout, (s) suspend, (h) hibernate, (r) reboot, (Shift+s) shutdown
mode "$mode_system" {
bindsym l exec --no-startup-id $Locker, mode "default"
bindsym e exec --no-startup-id i3-msg exit, mode "default"
bindsym s exec --no-startup-id $Locker && systemctl suspend, mode "default"
bindsym h exec --no-startup-id $Locker && systemctl hibernate, mode "default"
bindsym r exec --no-startup-id systemctl reboot, mode "default"
bindsym Shift+s exec --no-startup-id systemctl poweroff, mode "default"
# back to normal: Enter or Escape
bindsym Return mode "default"
bindsym Escape mode "default"
bindsym $mod+Pause mode "$mode_system"
This brings up a list choice in the statusbar. Its not an icon, but a key press/combo is, imo,  more in-keeping with the i3 way of doing things.

  • How to close tray-applications before reboot? (openbox)

    Hi! (excuse my bad English)
    I'm new to Arch and have started using openbox as standalone WM. I've managed to write a reboot/shutdown script with some code here from the forum, which closes all open windows by using "wmctrl"  before logging out from openbox. The problem is that it does not close applications which are only present in the system-tray and have no window open which wmctrl can access. Is there a way to tell those "tray-applications" to close (like it's done in GNOME and other DE's) instead of killing them? Results are for example that keepassx tells me after reboot that the database is still opened (because it was no closed "the right way"). In GNOME this did not happen, so i think there must be a way to close those apps.
    Thank you.

    Awebb wrote:
    As far as I know those processes are killed with a SIGTERM (like in kill -15) during a logout.
    from the wikipedia page (first source I found):
    "SIGTERM is the default signal sent to a process by the kill or killall commands. It causes the termination of a process, but unlike the SIGKILL signal, it can be caught and interpreted (or ignored) by the process. Therefore, SIGTERM is akin to asking a process to terminate nicely, allowing cleanup and closure of files. For this reason, on many Unix systems during shutdown, init issues SIGTERM to all processes that are not essential to powering off, waits a few seconds, and then issues SIGKILL to forcibly terminate any such processes that remain."
    This means the process has a chance to exit properly. Most linux software does that. So it might be an upstream problem: Your program probably refuses to clean up :-D
    Need confirmation on this, I was aiming blindly.
    Unfortunately that's true of the operating system. However, if you ask X to close (which is what logging out of Openbox does), all of the apps that depend on X to run just crash because they can't find X anymore. This is not a smart way for them to close. I would also prefer a nicer way to do this, but I've not been concerned enough to do something about it myself...

  • Satellite L300- 1AQ - Bluetooth tray application has stopped working

    When i put my laptop on it comes up with an error which says:
    *bluetooth tray application has stopped working*
    A problem caused the problem to stop working correctly.
    Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    Anyone got a solution?
    The laptop is a Satellite L300- 1AQ
    Only had it a month!!
    Please help, thankyou

    Hi
    Did you try to reinstall the Toshiba BT stack?
    Usually this should help to get rid of this error message.
    Here you can download the newest BT stack:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/
    Remove firstly the old BT software from the system and after new reboot install the BT downloaded from the Toshiba BT page.
    Bye

  • [Solved] Shutdown/Reboot takes a long time

    I do an upgrade every 5 days or so but it's been a while since I last rebooted--probably around 15-24 days. Since I haven't shutdown/rebooted for a while, I decided to do one today. I noticed that shutdown/reboot takes a long time, around 2-3 minutes whereas before, it would be instant and the behavior seems weird. Upon pressing shutdown or reboot:
    1. Monitors become completely black and searches for a signal (by switching HDMI, DVI, etc). PC still on
    2. After 1 minute, if reboot, I can hear the GPU fans spin like crazy. Shutdown doesn't do this, just quiet.
    3. After waiting another minute, some output shows up really fast and the PC is rebooted or shutdown
    This didn't happen before so I think it's probable that one of the updates did this. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to tell which one.
    I followed the section "Diagnosing Shutdown Problems" here on how to debug shutdown problems. I've got the systemd shutdown log but I can't tell where the problem is:

    ksu wrote:Thanks alot for the input guys. Since I want to start from scratch anyways I'll definitively dig deeper into the subject. BTRFS snapshot feature and RAID1 by simply mirroring two partitions sound awesome, and the subvolume feature seems to be exactly what I need for my USB setup, giving me alot of flexibility. But if there are really that many reports of random data loss then I'll also do some research into that direction to see what this is all about. I admit I'm a linux noob, but it's a lot of fun to learn all this stuff.
    Be sure to read this: https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Gotchas
    From my own experience, I can say that:
    1. I've never had an issue nor data loss with BTRFS RAID1 root partition on a single disk (other than the first issue on the above list).
    2. I had recurring problems with BTRFS RAID1 non-root partition on a single disk not being able to mount (had to reboot random number of times to get it to mount). However, I suspect this was caused not just by BTRFS but the combination of BTRFS+LVM+dmcrypt which is a rather complex and unusual setup. I had somewhat similar issue with ZFS.
    3. I had BTRFS checkdisk report strange, non-critical, unfixable errors on my non-raid BTRFS root partition, but it never corrupted or lost any data. I simply copied the data to another partition, recreated the root partition and all was fine again.
    4. The last time I lost data on a single partition because of BTRFS was 17 months ago. The last time BTRFS snapshot saved me from losing data was yesterday.
    5. I migrated from BTRFS to ZFS for my backup server and will possibly do so for my work machines. ZFS is more elegant, mature and I have seen no complaints of losing data because of it. However, ZFS is complicated and somewhat restrictive to setup for a data partition, and many times more difficult to setup as root partition. I would not consider it for a non-permanent USB installation.
    6. What we committed here is a massive thread hijacking.

  • [SOLVED] New slim, can't shutdown|reboot|suspend anymore

    Hi!
    I just upgraded slim, and i notice that i cannot suspend, shutdown and reboot anymore.
    And to mount usb drive, i am asked for my password.
    After the upgrade i changed /etc/slim.conf,pacnew to suit my needs and then sudo mv /etc/slim.conf.pacnew /etc/slim.conf .
    My .xinitrc is the same, so, where is the problem?
    here there are my slim.conf:
    # Path, X server and arguments (if needed)
    # Note: -xauth $authfile is automatically appended
    default_path /bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin
    default_xserver /usr/bin/X

    From later in this thread:
    Solution
    Ok, do:
    ck-list-sessions
    There were two sessions for myself.  So, the new slim is starting your exec line already with a console kit session.  This is new behavior.  It didn't before.
    So, I modified my exec line to remove "ck-launch-session" in .xinitrc to:
    exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session startxfce4
    Reverted the changes I made to the shutdown/restart policy and rebooted.  Shutdown, restart, mounting USB drive: they all work again now.
    Edit: from even later on in this thread, just:
    exec startxfce4
    As your .xinitrc exec line should be sufficient for practically anyone.  "startxfce4" does the dbus-launch itself.
    Original post here:
    Changed in my /etc/slim.conf:
    default_path        /bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin
    Same issue, in Action buttons Shutdown and Restart grayed out.
    in .xinitrc, launch line:
    exec ck-launch-session startxfce4
    Launch line was:
    exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --exit-with-session startxfce4
    But, same issue with that launch line.  Was googling and I found results saying dbus-launch is contained within startxfce4.

  • [systemd] No shutdown/reboot/suspend anymore from XBMC

    Migrated my HTPC to systemd last night. So far so good, lirc still works, I found some Fedora xbmc service script that launches XBMC neatly. It looks good.
    XBMC runs as my own user. However, whereas before I could suspend/shutdown/reboot just fine (through upower), that now does not work anymore. I have enabled (and started) the upower service:
    $ systemctl list-units|grep -i upower
    cpupower.service loaded active exited Apply cpupower configuration
    upower.service loaded active running Daemon for power management
    However, even with the upower service enabled all XBMC shows in the shutdown menu is a timer option and hibernate/suspend. The two last options definitely don't work. I have hit that button enough to know. Before, there were also restart/shutdown options visible. Those are gone. So all that's left is pushing the button on my HTPC to make it shut down.
    XBMC service file:
    [Unit]
    Description = Starts instance of XBMC using xinit
    After = syslog.target
    [Service]
    User = $user
    Group = users
    Type = simple
    ExecStart = /usr/bin/xinit /usr/bin/xbmc-standalone -- :0
    [Install]
    WantedBy = multi-user.target
    Any pointers?
    Edit: NFS problem solved by enabling rpc-idmapd.service.

    Thanks Elfo, I'll have a look at those. Further inspection showed that the polkit service was actually failing. I just bumped the release from 105 and 107, built from ABS and installed 107. Turns out polkit needs its own user now (polkitd) and needs access to the root:root owned rules dirs as well. Fixed that one, but not getting any further.
    Edit: there's a user-session-units package in the AUR (with deps) so I built and installed those. It works (XBMC autolaunches), and it seems like it's communicating with D-Bus, but no luck there (no suspend, no shutdown etc. and shutdown/reboot buttons are still gone):

  • TRIALSP11 Application server Shutdown at SAP LOGON

    This is my first adventure with SAP or ABAP..
    1. I installed and followed the  SAPNW2004sABAPTrialSP11 install instructions.
    2. The installation instructions went fine from the
    /people/manfred.lutz/blog/2007/03/16/new-blog-series-abap-trial-version-for-newbies
    3. SAMMMC has MSG_SERVER.exe and DISP_WORK.EXE both green when I stared the SAP Logon.
    4. After I start the SAP the waiting for response shows up.
    5. SAP GUI comes up with a error saying application server shutdown.
    6. my disp+work.exe goes to stopped state.
    7. Error message says componet is 710, version 10, return code -17, counter 1.
    The Log is attached. Any help is rewarded.

  • MDT 2013 Windows 8.1 application install with reboot problem

    Hello!
    I have a problem with an application install on Windows 8.1. I'm trying to install two applications and have activated "Reboot the computer after installting this application" for the first application. After rebooting the deployment window does
    not show up agagin. BDD.log shows, that the deployment starts after the reboot but seems to hang, before the UI shows.
    I tried to install this two applications under Windows 7, which works without any problems.
    Here is the BDD.log for the failed deployment: http://pastebin.com/PbUH1LUq
    Can anyone confirm this problem with MDT 2013 and Windows 8.1? Any ideas how to fix this?
    Additional information: Further testing showed, that this problem just occurs, if the application install gets started separately after deploying the OS. If the applications are installed in one deployment together with the OS, everything works fine.

    I did the same install on Windows 7, which worked without any problems. Here is the log file: http://pastebin.com/Qgn2PzyC
    To make it clear:
    If I run a Lite Touch Install task sequence to install Windows 8.1 and install the two applications within this LTI, everything works fine. The computer reboots after installing the first application and the deployment goes on and finishes successfully after
    the reboot.
    If I first install Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 via LTI and then (after LTI successfully finished) start a separate application install (using a custom task sequence with only one "Install Application" task in it), everything works fine with Windows
    7 (installation continues and finishes after the reboot) but fails with Windows 8.1.
    In Windows 8.1 the computer reboots after installing the first application, but after rebooting, the installation does not start again.
    Keith, as you said, my environment is corrupted, I created an new fresh deployment share, just added the two test applications and the custom task sequence and tried again. Same result, Windows 7 works fine, Windows 8.1 fails by not starting the installation
    after the reboot.

  • Toggle Full Keyboard Access is Not Working after Shutdown/Reboot

    Hi,
    I'm yet another keyboard maniac and somehow as above subject was keep re-occured every time after enabled it, I've turn it on full keyboard access in system preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts. All seemed to be good before I shutdown or reboot my macbook pro. I could access all the dialogs and windows. After a reboot or shutdown, all the dialogs from any other apps can still be accessed via keyboard except one single window, the shutdown window (both from hitting apple->shutdown and control+eject.) I have to toggle control+f1 or control+f7 every freaking time in order to enabled keyboard access to shutdown/reboot. I've tried "defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode" in terminal and it returned 3 which is "Full Keyboard Access ON and All controls" even after a fresh reboot:-
    +++++++++
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode
    3
    +++++++++
    But when I'm using sudoer to check the result was set to "0" means disable:-
    +++++++++
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ sudo defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode
    Password:
    0
    +++++++++
    So what I do for the workaround/fix is by the set value to enabled it using root access level or sudoer:-
    +++++++++
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ sudo defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleKeyboardUIMode -int 3
    +++++++++
    Once done do reboot your Mac & check the result in Terminal should shows as below:-
    +++++++++
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ sudo defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode
    3
    =========
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode
    3
    +++++++++
    So it's fixed for my issue. If anyone have better suggestion or the proper method please share.
    Thanks in advance.

    Quakershaker,

  • WindowsXP (HVM, PV Driver) can't shutdown/reboot by Oracle VM Manager 3.0.3

    I install a virtual machine (Windows XP SP3) as HVM/PV withOracle VM Windows Paravirtual (PV) Drivers 3.0.1.
    Oracle VM Manager 3.0.2 can shutdown / reboot the virtual machine with PV driver, but Oracle VM Manager 3.0.3 can not do that.
    Also when I install the Oracle VM Windows Paravirtual (PV) Drivers 3.0.1 to Windows XP SP3, the virtual machine has two NICs.
    One is "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC", and the other one is "ORacle VM Virtual Ethernet Adapter".
    Both NIC are connecting the VM Network.
    I think when the PV drivers installed to the virtual machine, the original NIC should be disapper.
    Does anybody has same problem?

    Yes. I tried two ways as below;
    1) I made the virtual machine as "HVM" mode, then I install Windows XP SP3,.
    After installed OS I installed the PV drivers, then I shutdown the virtual machine and I switched the mode to "HVM with PV Drivers", and booted it.
    2) I made the virtual machine as "HVM with PV Drivers" mode, then I install Windows XP SP3.
    After installed OS I installed the PV drivers, and rebooted it.
    Both of them I can't shutdown the virtual machine from Oracle VM manager.
    I can see these Oracle VM devices in device manager, "Oracle VM Virtual Disk Controller", "Oracle VM Virtual PCI Bus", "Oracle VM Virtual SCSI Disk Device","Oracle VM Virtual Ethernet Adapter".
    And "Oracle VM Service" is installed as Windows service and running.
    The "Oracle VM Virtual Ethernet Adapter" can connect my VM networks without problem.
    I think Oracle VM 3.0.2 does not have this kind of problems.
    My oracle VM 3.0.3 are not upgraded from 3.0.2. It is fresh.

  • Xrandr-aware tray application

    I'm using Xmonad on my laptop and frequently switch to a dual external monitor setup. When switching resolutions I have to restart Xmobar + trayer in order to reposition the applications at the correct locations in the new resolution. Xmobar works fine, and tends to remain on my primary monitor (on the left). Trayer on the other hand, doesn't and shifts to the far-left of the second monitor (the far-left corner of the virtual area). Does anyone know of a tray application that is xrandr-aware (xinerama as it used to be called)? If anyone has some pointers to some simple applications that implement this functionality, I might be able to hack support for this for trayer.

    A long time since your post, but I just found it today as I looked for a solution to a similar problem --trayer disappearing when using two monitors.
    I think the problem is the interaction between where you place trayer and the virtual screen size and layout.
    For instance, I got problems with the following:
    xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --primary --rotate normal --pos 0x0 --output VGA1 --rotate normal --left-of LVSD1
    trayer --edge bottom --align right --SetDockType true --SetPartialStrut true --expand true --widthtype request --transparent true --tint 0x191970 --height 12 --distance 20 --distancefrom right
    (LVSD1 is my laptop)
    The problem is that the left monitor is 1280x1024 whereas the laptop is 1600x900. That means that the trayer (--edge bottom) is located below the lower part of the laptop's screen. An easy fix is to align the bottom of the two screens, for instance doing (with my setup)
    xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --primary --rotate normal --pos 1280x124 --output VGA1 --rotate normal --auto --pos 0x0
    Maybe in your case its just a matter of specifying the position of your primary monitor AND the trayer edge option so that they play nicely with each other.

  • Why my system tray application terminates when JFrame is closed???

    Hi,
    I am using JDK 1.6 with Netbeans 5.5 and currently trying to make an system tray application. I have one main class which runs as a system tray application and one JFrame class which will be shown when user selects a menu item from system tray. So far so good but a small problem. When the JFrame form is closed, my system tray application also closes. Can somebody tell me what am I missing?
    Thanks

    set the DefaultCloseOperation of the JFrame to DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE instead of EXIT_ON_CLOSE

  • [SOLVED] LXDM Shutdown/Reboot Issues

    Under "vanilla" conditions (unmodified /etc/lxdm/lxdm.conf), I have no trouble logging in and out and powering off/rebooting using LXDM.
    My problem seems to arise when I set my main user account to autologin.  The autologin works as expected, and I log back out to LXDM just fine.  After logging out, there is a "username" text field replacing the large user boxes, which is a little out-of-place but isn't my main concern.
    If I try to shutdown or reboot, nothing will happen, and I give it a second just to make sure it isn't taking place in a tty or something odd like that (checked my running tty's just to be sure).  Afterward, I log back in to my main account, and upon logging out once more, the system proceeds to power off.
    The only time I've been able to reproduce it was with the autologin enabled.  Possibly worth noting is my /etc/lxdm/PostLogout, which contains this snippet from the LXDM ArchWiki Page:
    #!/bin/sh
    # Kills all your processes when you log out.
    killall --user $USER -TERM
    May not be very much related, but it is the only other change I have made to LXDM.  However, it had no adverse effects on the shutdown/reboot post-logout functionality with the autologin disabled.
    I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction for fixing this bizarre behavior.

    I ended up adding /sbin/reboot to /etc/lxdm/PreReboot, and /sbin/poweroff to /etc/lxdm/PreShutdown.
    It's more of a workaround than a solution, but it seems like the easiest and most effective solution so far.  No problems with it yet.

  • Error trying to Restart Application Tier after reboot adstrtal.sh

    After Upgrading my environment from EBS 12.1.1 to 12.1.3 on Linus 64 I am trying to start up the Application tier after rebooting my server and I am getting the following error
    "adstrtal.sh: Database connection could not be established: Either the database is down the the APPS credentials supplier are wrong"
    I though that this may be due to the database listener not being started but it appears to be running as show below.
    The Steps that I have taken are
    1. Starting up database
    2. ran sh.adstrtal.sh apps/apps
    Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Hi,
    I did some testing and while I was able to connect to SQL plus with the "oracle" user I was unable to connect using the ""applmgr" user. When I try to conenct as the applmgr user I get an error ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact.
    Could this be why I am seeing the database connection related error when running adstrtal.sh and if so any suggestions on how to resolved would be greatly appreciated

    Do you have enough resources on this machine?
    For application, you have to source environment file from APPL_TOP. So are you sourcing the correct env file.
    Do you see any errors in the listener log file, db alert log file?
    Was you upgrade from 12.1.1 to 12.1.3 successful?, Did you get any errors while upgrading.
