Tray selection HP Color LaserJet 5550 PCL 6

I would like to print from trays 3, 4 and 5 and save those settings in a report job.  When I pull up the printer dialog box, and go to the source drop down I only see Tray1 and Tray 2 (along with Manual Feed) as options.  How can I set the job to print from the other trays?
Judy

This sounds like a driver issue. You mention the printer being PCL6. Can you confirm which driver you are using when the 1/4 page prints occur. My guess is that it would be one of the Gutenprint drivers included with SL and this sort of output can occur when the printer driver is not supported by the printer.
Also, with regards to the Generic, which I assume is the Generic PCL Laser Printer driver included with SL, this by default is set to 300dpi. You can change this print quality setting to 600dpi, which will improve your output, especially the graphics. However this driver only supports black & white printing. So if you want to print in color from the Mac and the printer does not support PostScript, then you should look at installing the pxlmono package.

Note that you will need the pxlmono, Foomatic and Ghostscript packages to use this driver suite.

  • HP Color LaserJet 5550 and Tiger (10.4.11) Driver Problem

I have recently acquired a Color LaserJet 5550hdn. I have updated all drivers and firmware available from the HP Website (Printer Driver, 5550 firmware and Jetdirect 610n firmware). The printer has been factory reset/cold reset etc. to purge any previous custom settings. I am using a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver (933mhz) and Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11). I have made some test prints from both Preview and iPhoto and all have been dark and muddy with respect to colors. I have printed the same images from my wife's PC with HP's PCL 6 Driver for Windows XP and achieve satisfactory results with respect to color (that is to say, without fooling with any color settings in the driver, the image is at least within 10% of the color gamut compared to the screen image). Setting up the printer with the HP Postscript Driver for XP yields similar results as the Mac, dark and muddy colors. So is this a problem with the HP Postscript Driver? Is this a Mac OS X Tiger problem? Do users have color problems with the printer running the Leopard driver?
I previously owned a HP Color LaserJet 8550 (utilizing the same HP Driver for Mac OS X that the 5550 uses) and had default images (no fooling with any color settings in the driver) that were acceptable, again within 10% or less of the screen image color gamut.
I have also downloaded HP's ICC color profiles (CMYK and sRGB) and put them in library/printers/hp/profiles.
With respect to the driver itself, there are two areas in the print dialogue box which seem to have a bearing on color. One is Colorsync and the other is Color Options. Colorsync has two choices ('Standard' and 'In Printer') and I chose 'In Printer' to I assume bypass any Colorsync Conversion. When 'Standard' is chosen the print summary shows the HP Color LaserJet CMYK profile being used. There seems to be no way of changing the default setting in the Colorsync Utility to HP Color LaserJet sRGB. Not sure if it matters as the output for both 'Standard' and 'In Printer' seem to yield the same results. The options under 'Color Options" in the driver under the 'Show Advanced Options' have choices (Basic, Text, Graphics, Photographs, Advanced) and I have played with these to some extent. Although they seem to have some effect on the image, the print is still dark and muddy with respect to colors.
On a final note I have tried a 'GutenPrint' driver to see if it would yield different results.....there was not one for the 5550 so I used a driver for the Color LaserJet 5500......it would only print in grayscale....the resulting image did not look very promising even if it had printed in color.
Insights on any of the above from the community here would be most helpful!
    Thanks,
    -Ray

This is an update to my own post above. I downloaded the Mac OS 9 driver (yes OS 9!, but the QuickSilver is Dual Boot) for the Color LaerJet 5550 and printed (no changes to any of the driver settings) the same image (photo) as I used in Mac OS X. The image was still dark but not as poor from Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger). Although I prefer not to use color management, I used the Colorsync tab in the driver and chose to match to Colorsync with a generic sRGB output profile (no other settings were changed in the HP color options tab). The resulting image was +/- 5% within the color gamut of the screen image (yeah!!!) In Tiger the options under the Colorsync tab in the driver are 'Standard' or 'In Device' and regardless of the choice, the print result is the same, very dark and muted colors. There is no option for sRGB and if set to 'Standard' the print summary always shows a CMYK profile being utilized. Given that the HP Color LaserJet 5550 is an sRGB printer as per HP, perhaps that is a problem? I would assume the 'In Device' option would bypass Colorsync (since there seems to be no other way to turn it off) and use sRGB, but that does not seem to make a difference in the image being printed.
My good success with an OS 9 driver leads me to believe I have a driver problem in Tiger. However, I have no problems with other printers (HP All in One, DesignJet Color Plotter and wide format Epson inkjet....all of which are older) with respect to poor color output. Given this is a current model in the HP line-up and I believe in service during Mac OS X Tiger, it seems hard to fathom other users do/did not experience a problem.
Again, do Leopard users have a problem with color issues on this printer with default driver settings? Does anyone have driver settings/other insights they could share with respect to Tiger to at least get the print image somewaht close to the screen image? As it stands now, regardless of settings, the printed image is dark with muted colors.
Thnaks to anyone who can respond, even if it is to say they have no problems in Leopard/Snow Leopard as I am upgrading to a new Mac soon.

  • Color LaserJet 5550 Printing Issues

    Hi All,
I am having one problem on 2 HP Color LaserJet 5550 printers. The problem seems to be sporadic in nature, but on some full page prints, a small black line is printed across the image. I have tried running a PQ Troubleshooting test through the printer's diagnostics option, but everything seems to print fine when I do this.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • I have a HP Color LaserJet CM1015 PCL 6

I have a HP Color LaserJet CM1015 PCL 6 which has been working perfectly up until recently. When it prints now there is a black line down the side of the page

Further clarification, the printer does show up in Printers in the control panel, but not as an installed program
in Control panel -> Programs and Features,
In device manager, and hidden devices checked off, another installed printer is displayed but not the HP 3600.
This is bizarre as the HP printer worked fine for 3 years. This issue started when I installed another non-HP printer.
Even a reinstall, (another) of Vista 64 bit Home Premium did not resolve this.

  • Problem to print with HP Color LaserJet CP3525 (PCL 6) on Server

    Hi,
I have a printer HP Color LaserJet CP3525 in a server, and I installed with the correct drivers for that but the printing output is strange. I'm trying to print in A4 paper, and everything is just printed in 1/4 of the page. The most strange is that the graphics are scaled to the 1/4 of the page while the text is exactly with the same size than the complete page, but all the letter are overlapping each other.
I also tried to print with a generic configuration and print in all the page but I can't print with color, just the black toner is used, so the quality is really bad.
    Please, help me!

  • Wrong automatic paper tray selection in HP LaserJet M3035 printer.

    Hello,
I have a printer (this one http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06b/18972-18972-3328064-12004-3328083-2512333-2512337-3435... ) shared in Active Directory by several users (running Windows XP machines). The thing is that no matter how many times I try to set the source paper tray to a specific one, it seems it doesnt apply/store the changes, and it comes back to Auto tray selection  (and it always selects tray #1, which is the one im trying to avoid), causing an issue which needs to be solved by hand.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    1. Go into your SETUP MENU on your printer.
    2. Choose PREFERENCES
    3. Choose DEFAULT TRAY.
Try it and let me know what happens, thanks.

  • How do I print in color on Color Laserjet 2500 PCL 5?

When I open properties, the features indicates: "Color: No."  I could find no way to change this to "yes."

    Hello @TexasMos ,
Thanks for getting back to me. The AirPrint driver may be selected instead of the HP driver, by the sounds of it. I would like you to see the link below to see some screen shots that will help you check which driver is selected. If you see the AirPrint driver selected, you will need to change it to the HP driver.

  • Problems installing HP Color LaserJet 5550 on Airport network

I've been trying to install my dad's HP CLJ 5550 on our home network for ages.
*This is some background story, skip to the last bit if you don’t feel like reading*
Some months ago, everything was fine and dandy. We had a network consisting of:
    The modem from our ISP
The switch from our ISP (I think that's what it was)
    1 Airport Express 802.11n
    2 Airport Express 802.11b/g
The 802.11n AE was connected to the ISP switch with a standard CAT5 ethernet cable, and that was in turn connected to the modem, and was transmitting the signal to the two other AE's, one connected to our printer with an ethernet cable, the other connected to our home stereo for AirTunes.
Then came the day when our ISP sent us a new modem, this time a wireless router/modem hybrid.
I got rid of the switch and modem and replaced them with the upgrade.
Furthermore, the new ISP router had WiFi built-in so naturally I wanted to take advantage of that, but in the end we ended up having 2 seperate networks, one transmitted by the ISP router and one transmitted by the 802.11n AE (which is connected to the ISP router w/ ethernet cable) to the other AE's.
The ISP router network had great internet performance whatsoever, but I couldn't get the printer and AirTunes working.
The AE network had very shaky internet performance but the network seemed very stable and served AirTunes and wireless printing.
After some time I tried merging the 2 networks, by setting the AEs to join the current network that the ISP router was transmitting. It kinda worked, but we lost all printing.
The printer is crucial to my dad so I suggested getting an AEBS so he bought that.
Now I've set the network up and it consists of:
    1 AEBS (802.11n)
1 AE connected to the printer with an ethernet cable.
2 AEs connected to 2 different stereos.
1 ISP router (but this time I've disabled the WiFi!)
The AEBS creates the network, gets its internet connection from the ISP router, and is extended by the 3 AEs. Very fast, stable and AirTunes performs great... But the printer.
I’ve set the printer to TCP/IP and manual config.
The IP adress I’ve set to 192.168.1.150 (in line with the rest of the network)
Subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0 since that’s what Airport Utility says.
Gateway Adress is set to 192.168.1.1 which I guess is the ISP router? I don’t know. It’s just what Airport Util says. Should it be the AEBS’s adress?
Are there things that I need to disable on printer? On the network? On my computer? Enable? Something? Aaaaargh..
I get nothing from pinging the IP-adress. Back in the golden days it used to recognize it as an HP printer it even checked ink levels and so forth.. Now I can’t even ping.
I’ve tried changing every parameter I can think of.. Adding it as LPD, IPP and HP JetDirect Socket.. (but since I can’t even ping what would I get from changing that?)
That turned out a wee bit longer than I expected...

The Firewalls are disabled and from my laptop you can view all of the shared
Folders on the Desktop with the CP1215 attached via USB.
When I issue the print from my laptop that is on the same network, you see the
print file show up in the CP1215 print queue of the Desktop the CP1215
is USB attached to and then disappears about 15 seconds later.  Here is
how it appears on in the Desktop CP1215 Print Queue before it disappears
Doc Name            Status      Owner     Pages    Size            Submitted            Port
    E-mail print           Printing      Guest          1      547 KB     2:00pm 08/26/09      USB003
I've also download/installed the latest drivers.  When I reinstall the CP1215 on my laptop from
the Desktop, the "PRINT TEST PAGE works from the Laptop but then all print commands after
    that do not work.
I see from my Google search I'm not the only one having this problem
ANY IDEAS what to try next?

  • Installing HP Color Laserjet 1600 drivers

Im not technical by any stretch of the imagination, but through trawling the internet I have managed to get my HP Color Laserjet 1600 printer working in Mavericks 10.9.1.  Given it's not support by HP any more, I thought I would share in case anyone else might find it useful.
I'm sure there are better ways to install these things than I have done, but I'm just going to describe what I did - hey it works, so I don't mind!
Firstly, install Xcode from the Mac App Store.
In a Terminal Window, install Homebrew by copying and pasting the following:
    ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.github.com/Homebrew/homebrew/go/install)"
Install wget and gnu-sed by copying and pasting the below into a Terminal Window, one line at a time.
    brew install wget
    brew install gnu-sed
Download and installed Ghostscript, Foomatic RIP and HIPJS for Mac OS X.
    Enter the following in Terminal
    wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz
    tar zxf foo2zjs.tar.gz
    cd foo2zjs
    make
    ./getweb 1600
    sudo make install
    sudo make cups
    cupsctl WebInterface=yes
Then, open up a CUPS web interface at: http://localhost:631
Then add a printer by clicking on Adding Printers and Classes and then Add Printer.
Enter your Mac OS X user name (must be an administrator) and your password.
Select the printer and click the submit button.  My printer was connected with a USB cable and was in the list automatically.
Enter a name and description and submit the form again.
    Select HP
Select HP Color LaserJet 1600 Foomatic/foo2hp (en)
    Click on Add Printer
Set Color Mode to Color and Bits Per Plane to 1 Bits Per Plane.
    Submit.
    Done!
    All credit to Florian

    Great instructions thanks!
I am getting an error during any print (test print too) saying:
You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer.
I tried uninstalling the foo2hp drivers (make uninstall) and reinstalled but no luck.
    Any suggestions?

  • Color Laserjet 4500 on Windows 7 - 64 bit Share with XP - 32 bit Need Additional 32-bit Drivers

    Here's the setup:
Desktop: Windows 7 Professional - 64 bit with Color Laserjet 4500, shared, connected and working fine. The name of the driver is HP Color LaserJet 4500 PCL 5.
Laptop: Windows XP Professional - 32 bit.
No network problems. Laptop sees the printer, but can't connect without the correct additional 32-bit drivers installed on the desktop. The only drivers I've been able to find are listed here. When I try to add under host printer properties/sharing/additional drivers, none of the downloaded .inf files are accepted.
Since Windows 7 installed a perfectly good 64-bit driver, there must be a compatible 32-bit driver that cab be added to allow the XP laptop to connect to this printer- but I have not been able to find it!
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I would suggest installing the PCL6 driver on your XP machine, then on the XP machine do the following:  Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes, Add a Printer, Next, Local Printer, Next, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, Have Disk, point to the directory where the driver was installed (default C:\clj4500pcl6win2kxp).

  • HP Photosmart 3210 installed on my iMac But is showing as  but is showing as HP Color Laserjet 2800 series PS which means I no longer have access to all the paper options especially the photo tray

I have recently purchased an iMac running Lion. The HP Photosmart 3210 printer was connected through the network and I was happy that it recognised the printer - good old Mac's!!
However, when I tried to print some of my photos from the photo tray, the option was not available and when I looked at the printer properties, it was showing as a HP Color LaserJet 2800 Series PS which does not have all the paper options I had before. Reinstalling the software from HP did not make any difference - do I now have to buy a new printer as well???

I suggest opening the Print & Scan System Preferences, then highlight your HP Photosmart printer in the printers list and delete it by pressing the minus sign. Now, re-add the printer by clicking on the plus sign and select the printer. Make sure that the 'Print Using:' pull down aut selects the correct driver for your printer. If it doesn't, pull down the list and manually select the correct driver using the 'Select Printer Software' option. Hopefully that will resolve your issue.

  • Is there a way to change the default print tray on an HP LaserJet 500 color M551 Printer

    Hi
Is there a way to setup the default print tray for a HP LaserJet 500 color M551 printer to be tray 2 printing both online and direct?
If so what would be the best way to go about implementing it?
    Thanks

Usually, you can change the default paper trays through the control panel and through the Embedded Web server (EWS).
Check the settings on your control panel. Here is a link to the User Guide, check out page 94 and see if that helps you out.
    m551 User Guide
For the EWS, put the printer IP address into your browser, then go to the tab that would list tray settings. Not sure exactly which tab has it for this printer series, but on other printer series it is on the system tab under paper setup.
