Treating layered Photoshop Images as one item

I want to scale and change the position of a layered Photoshop image, but if I double-click it to try to get to the motion tab, it opens as a separate sequence. This allows me to position and scale individual layers, but I want to move/scale the whole photoshop image and have the layers stay all together.
Is there a way to do that?

Ah, I knew it had to be simple. Thanks.
My intension was to get a Photoshop image with vector layers so I could zoom way in to a tiny dot on the image until the dot took over the entire screen. But I realized that when you bring such an image into Final Cut Pro it rasterizes it at the DPI of the image.
I tried boosting the DPI up to like 10,000 and that works fine in Photoshop (because it's just vectors), but in FCP it obviously is going to rasterize it resulting in a hang because the image is WAY too big. It would be like a few gigabytes rasterized.
I probably need some other program to accomplish that effect.

    I am trying to import scanned illustrations into Final Cut Pro (6) as layered photoshop images, however when I try and animate the image is blurred.....please help! Will I need to create the photoshop files as a certain size/resolution? I am working to 4:3.....

    You should take your question to the Final Cut Studio forum. This is FCPX.

  • Layered photoshop image is not becoming a sequence

    This has me tearing my hair out. I created a layered photoshop image (PS CS2) and when I import it into FCP5 it does not become a sequence. Both layers are the same size and are a "now and then" image of the same site.
    Help!
    Thank you
    Ann

    Sorry if these sound like simplistic questions, but I've seen it happen; Are you flattening or merging the layers in Photoshop before saving? Was the image created in a Windows version of PS? When in FCP's Timeline, what happens when you double-click on the PSD clip?

  • Integrating LT slide with Photoshop image in FCE

    Hi all. I'm using LT to make text slides to integrate into an FCE project. Here's some background: my video opens with a LT slide, which is laid on top of (i.e., on the track above) a layered Photoshop image. Next, a few of the layers move, and the text slide ends, and then there is a second when just the PS image shows, and then a second LT slide of text superimposes on the PS image. So the PS image lasts for about 7 seconds, and during that time there are 2 different LT titles superimposed, one at 1-3 seconds and then a second one at 4-7 seconds.
    My problem is this: there is a little hop in the Photoshop image when the second LT slide appears -- the image gets ever-so-slightly bigger. I think this must have something to do with the Project Properties in LT not agreeing with the size/pixel aspect of my Photoshop image, but I've been adjusting the #s in both programs forever and the problem remains.
    Here are the settings I have now:
    Photoshop image: 720x480, 72 dpi, Pixel aspect ratio = DV1/DVNTSC (0.9)
    LiveType Proj. properties: NTSC 4:3 (640x480, pixel asp ratio=1.0). Note that I've tried variations, too -- switching the Project Prop size to 720x480, switching the pixel aspect ratio to .9...
    FCE Project: Easy Setup DV/NTSC
    Thanks in advance for the help -- it's a small problem, but is driving me nuts!
    JP

    No idea what the first part was about.
    Are you trying to render the PS in LiveType as a background image?
    If you are, don't. Do the compositing in FCE.
    You must view the output of all of yor rendering on your targe playback device, not a computer monitor. You blip in the PS image could just be a rendering artifact being displayer one or two pixels too high or low and that may or may not be visible when played out on an interlaced set.

  • Pixelation when importing layered Photoshop file

    Just brimming with questions tonight:
    I'm importing layered Photoshop images into FCP, with the individual layers creating seperate clips in the timeline. So far, so good. But the clips are looking very pixelated compared to in PS. The document size in PS is set to the pixel dimensions in FCP, i.e. 720x576 for DV PAL.
    Any suggestions for what's happening? Does it have anything to do with setting square vs aspect ratio pixels in PS? (I'm using pixel aspect ratio D1/DV PAL at 1.07)
    Any help much appreciated!

    the difference between PS and FCP is mindboggling
    It should be different (although not really mind boggling). In Photoshop, you're seeing the image at it's native resoution ... in FCP, once you place it in the Timeline, you're seeing it at the Sequence resolution and with all the restrictions of the codec your Sequence is set for.

    I dragged a cut out image from one photoshop document into another and now it is blurry. What can I do to prevent this?

    What is the resolution of the image that you "dragged"? The resolution is the number in pixels per inch (ppi). If you dragged a significantly lower resolution file into a higher resolution file, it could result in a blurry image.

  • Photoshop freezes when using Auto-Blend Layers - Stack Images

    I used to have CS5 on my computer, after which I used the CS6 trial, and I never had any problems when stacking images using Auto-Blend Layers -> Stack Images. However, I recently purchased a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud and after uninstalling the old PS versions and installing Cloud, Photoshop freezes every time I try to stack images.
    My computer has very good specs, runs Windows 7, and both the OS and PS are up to date.
    Why is PS freezing? What can I do to fix the problem?

  • After Effects SWF file appears black with no image. Only 2 layers in AE file (one that moves the other static). Please help!

    After Effects 5.5.
    I need this file as a swf but it appears black when I export.
    Only 2 layers in AE file (one that moves the other static). Please help!
    Thank you!

    Thanks for your response. Is there no other way to get the swf file to work properly from After Effects?
    What is the best way to go about using the MP4, F4V or FLV formats to save as a swf in Flash?
    Can you advise how I can save it to MP4, F4V or FLV from After Effects Creative Cloud? they don't seem to be visible (I also have creative cloud)
    Thank you very much

  • Storing Layered Photoshop Files

    I am learning to use Aperture and trying to figure out how to incorporate it into my workflow. Importing from a compact flash card is a dream. I like the rating scheme. My practice for my selects has been to save layered Photoshop files. Aperture doesn't support layered PSD files. When I import one it leaves the layered file in tact and imports a flattened version which means I need an external file structure for my layered files. This seems cumbersome.
    I'd welcome hearing what others are doing with layered PSD files.

    I think the main design flaw here is that, as soon as the Photoshop PSD file is imported, Aperture assumes that it is just another image format. In this case PSD files have a much richer format with layers, channels etc. and therefore Aperture goes to the least common denominator of a flattened (and saved for compat) version of this image losing a lot of (probably yet to be found but see below for another big issue) information on it.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=256482&tstart=0
    On the other hand if you edit an image in an external editor and save it, then Aperture now knows that the file format is owned by that other app and does not try to be "smart" about it.
    I think for a professional tool, Aperture should realize that people use a lot of different tools (Photoshop??) for editing images, and therefore should not force people to use their entry level editing features. It has a huge potential to be a great workflow tool but unless it can replicate all the editing features of all existing pro apps and plug-ins, it should stay as a workflow tool and leave editing to the other apps.
    IMHO, the desired behavior wrt working with other editing apps would be:
    * Leave the app specific file format (like PSD) associated with the app when it is imported. Do not treat it as just another format like JPG, TIFF etc. So if I click on it, it always opens in Photoshop and not try to edit it in the Aperture's entry level editor. Chances are if I have PSD files I am importing, then I also have Photoshop. (How many photo professionals do not use Photoshop??)
    * Plain old disable editing of PSD files in Aperture after importing. Because as soon as you do that, Aperture now clutters the view by creating a new version of the PSD (flattened of course). And now you have to hunt for the original layered PSD file amongst those versions, by opening each one up.
    So my ideal workflow is:
    * Get a RAW file.
    * Optionally set a 3rd party raw editor to edit RAWs in preferences. (but I am fine with using Aperture for RAW editing.)
    * Do RAW editing in aperture, crop, and may be straighten.
    * Then open in PS for further editing. Now after that PSD file cannot be edited it is owned by PS. A good visual que of what program the file is associated with would be important. (Like a Photoshop icon overlay on the image thumbnail.)
    * If I save a JPEG from PS, than it is associated with rest of the pack (versioned properly.)

  • How do I add video in my Photoshop images and graphics? I need it to play in Adobe Acrobat when I'm done.

    I designed an electronic press kit and I need the video to play on it. I'm getting the video link from YouTube so I was wondering how to make that happen. I already tried putting the YouTube link behind the video layer so it can be clickable in Acrobat, but when I sent it to the online magazine forum there was a lot of lines in it. I saw this YouTube video on how to do it but it requires ImageReady TUTORIAL-Add video to your Photoshop images and graphics! - YouTube. I don't have the Photoshop to ImageReady button in my PS....HELP! How do I get this done?!?!?

    That tutorial is extremely old. ImageReady was last used in CS2. In other words that program no longer exists.
    Luckily video made its way into photoshop so you can easily import your video into photoshop.
    Instead of an animation panel, it is now called the timeline panel. When the panel first opens it will ask you if you want an animation or a movie. Choosing movie will reduce the number of layers required down to just 2, one for the movie and one for the TV image. Since this is a timeline, you can split the timeline to remove any portion of the video you do not want or need to add an effect to that area of the timeline. Each time you split the video, it will move it to a new layer for you.
    You can still export as an animated gif by using the File>Save As dialog box. or You can export as a movie and choose another video format. Which format and codec you can choose will depend on how many other video apps of Adobe's you also have installed.

  • [CS3 JS] Getting information about Photoshop images in InDesign

    Hello,
    Through an InDesign script I can get many pieces of information about an image such as the file name, resolution in PPI, dimension in inches, color mode, etc.
    What I am wondering is if it is possible to find out how many layers a Photoshop image may have. I would like a quick way to know if an image has been flattened (one layer) without having to open up the image in Photoshop.
    Tom

    You can do this via BridgeTalk, here is an example. Select a TIF or PSD image and run the script.
    const gScriptName = "Get number of layers";
    const gScriptVersion = "1.0";
    var gLayersNumber;
    Main();
    //===================================== FUNCTIONS  ======================================
    function Main() {
        var image, pixelDimensionsArr, folderPath, copyResult;
        var doc = app.activeDocument;
        try {
            if (app.selection[0].constructor.name == "Image") {
                image = app.selection[0];
            else if (app.selection[0].images.length > 0) {
                image = app.selection[0].images[0];
            else {
                ErrorExit("The selection contains no image.");
        catch(err) {
            ErrorExit("The selection contains no image.");
        var link = image.itemLink;
        if (!link.isValid) ErrorExit("Can't get the link.");
        if (link.linkType == "Photoshop" || link.linkType == "TIFF") {
            if (link.status == LinkStatus.NORMAL) {
                linkFile = new File(link.filePath);
                if (linkFile.exists) {
                    CreateBridgeTalkMessage(link.filePath);
                    alert("Number of layers: " + gLayersNumber);
    function CreateBridgeTalkMessage(imagePath) {
        var bt = new BridgeTalk();
        bt.target = "photoshop";
        var script = "GetLayersNumber = " + GetLayersNumber.toSource() + "\r";
        script += "GetLayersNumber(\"" + imagePath + "\");";
        bt.body = script;
        bt.onResult = function(resObj) {
            gLayersNumber = resObj.body;
        bt.onError = function(msg) {
            alert("Error: " + msg.body);
        bt.send(100);
    function GetLayersNumber(imagePath) {
        var f = new File(imagePath);
        app.displayDialogs = DialogModes.NO;
        var doc = app.open(f);
        var layersNumber = doc.artLayers.length;
        doc.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
        app.displayDialogs = DialogModes.ALL;
        return layersNumber;
    function ErrorExit(error, icon) {
        alert(error, gScriptName + " - " + gScriptVersion, icon);
        exit();

  • Is it possible to paste two images into one layer?

    I'm having some issues pasting two images into one layer. Every time I paste the second image, it automatically creates a new layer...is there anyway to prevent that from happening? I'm making an animation on photoshop and I want there to be more than image in some of the frames. Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Thanks!

    You can merge the two layers together once they're position. Select the top layer and choose merge down or select both and choose merge layers (from the layers menu).

  • I want to combine 9 images into one so I can get them printed on a card any help or do I need an inexpensive app?

    I would like to combine 9 images into one so that I can print them on a card. Can I do this in i-photo or do I need an inexpensive app?

    No, iPhoto can't do it.  If you have Pages it can be done there very easily.  Drag all of the photos into a Pages page, resize and arrange as necessary.
    Otherwise you'll need a 3rd party image editor that supports layers.
    Some Image Editors That Support layers:
    Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79
    GraphicConverter - $40
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Imagerie - $38
    Acorn - $50
    Pixelmator - $60
    Seashore - Free
    GIMP for Mac - Free
    Xee 2.1 - free
