Tree requirments for Linux install into existing tree

I am in the planning stages to move my GroupWise 8 installations from Netware 6.5 to Linux.
From my understanding, I thought the tree needs to be at DS 8.8.x to install a Linux server. The question I have is my Netware 5.1 servers. I need to keep at least one of them for an old Btrieve application that does not run correctly with Btrieve on Netware 6.5.
Can I keep my Netware 5.1 server in the tree as long as it does not have a replica? Or do I need to create a separate tree just for the Netware 5.1 server.
thanks

Great choice!

No, not to install a regular Linux server. It'd probably be a good idea
to build a test tree with a current version of eDirectory and then import
schema between the two trees so that schema updates are all complete
before adding a real server into your NetWare-only tree, but nothing here
requires 8.8 at all. eDir on Linux has been around since 8.7 if not 8.6,
meaning well over a decade.

Sure, it's probably find to keep in the tree, especially if it has no
replicas. eDirectory is one of the best products I've ever used for
inter-version compatibility.
Good luck.

Needless to say that, although it unzips, the installer fails in different locations each time (33%, 45%) Typical error below. Installer just hangs

It seems to be tied to the oracle site as no other downloads I make are suffering this problem.
I'm thinking of taking the 3 downloads and somehow trying to patch one good one out of them by diff'ing the folders but this is tedious.

    Hi Reza,
    Hope you are doing good.
You can set the trace level in the SAP/Java Gui dynamically :
    Call transaction SMICM
Choose the menu Goto → Trace Level → Set
In the pop-up window, set the desired level (0,1,2,3)
To switch on an /nSMICM or ICM HTTP trace via command line you should go to
usr\sap\<SID>\<instance_number>\exe directory and run the icmon program with the following command:
    icmon◦◦pf=\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\profile\<SID>_<instance_name>_<HOST>
where you fill in the SID, instance name and host corresponding to your system.
The icmon program is interactive and to increase trace level you must write
"+" and pres enter. To quit you must write  "q" and press enter.
The trace will be written◦to the following file: usr\sap\<SID>\<instance_number>\work\dev_icm
    Thank you!
      Kind Regards,

  • OHJ for Linux -- install fails

I downloaded the ohj427_inst.jar file and the installation fails with "Failed to resolve JVM". I saw a similar post back in 2003, and the solution seemed to be to install it on a windows machine, and then copy the jars to the Linux box. However, this is not an option for me. Could there be another way?
Why not package just the needed jars, for people who don't have Windows to do a fake install?
    thanks for any answer,
    Iulian

We recently noticed problems installing on Linux as well. We are investigating other install technologies and will definitely be providing a simple zip file of the needed JARs for the next release. Contact [email protected] if you'd like to get a copy of the JARs in the meantime and can't use the other installs.

We have gotten it running on two RH6 machines. Took a little
    extra work.
    Briefly...
    * Make sure you use the latest JRE, and try using the one
with native threads (if not you will have to hand edit the
netasst script and remove the -native flag)
    * For some reason some of the libs that get installed are
zero length. Find the thread on this forum where someone posted
some sample code to recreate these. If I remember right its the
libjni library. It is a very short easy compile.
    * Make sure you got lots of RAM (128 min) and double that in
    swap
    * Watch for binaries that get installed without the execute
bit set. For instance I think tnslsnr is one of them, as well as
SQLPlus. I can't remember exactly, but that's one other problem
    to watch out for.
So far things here are working. I even tried a little java in a
stored procedure. My latest issue is trying to get the PROC
    samples to compile.

  • Oracle Forms Developer/Services 6i Release 2 for Linux install help

I've downloaded the tar.gz file and extracted it. Im a linux newbie and dont know much about linux. I've installed several files already but in this particular case, I dont know how to install a program with a tar.gz format. Im using ubuntu by the way and I have oracle forms running on WINE. I want to install the linux version so it will run natively.

    Hi,
First use gunzip utility to unzip .gz file. Once you are done, you will get a .tar file. Use tar -xvf to untar the file to a directory. It is similar to unzip.

  • OAS 4.0.8.1 for Linux Install (orainst) failure

    First of all, I couldn't

like the (misplaced) installation notes said. That returned a:
bash: ./orainst: No such file or directory
    Instead, I tried:
    $ . ./orainst
    but got:
    : command not found
bash: syntax error near unexpected token 'elif'
    'ash: ./orainst: line 74: `elif [ -f "$RCFILE2" ]; then
    Any ideas?

After I fixed some of the things I broke while searching for the wrksf failure, the PL/SQL Cartridge now works for me too. And, after failing to get the DB Browser to work by loading it into the SCOTT schema, I got it to work by loading it into SYS. (SCOTT can't see the DBA_* views so loading the DB Browser into the database failed.) I haven't tried any Java Servlets yet, but that's next on my list.
If you want to try my wrksf workaround, rather than using Christoph's, here's how you can do it.
    1. Backup liborb.so in the $ORACLE_HOME/orb/4.0/lib directory, just in case something goes wrong.
    2. Using a hex editor, such as emacs hexl-find-file or ghex, to edit liborb.so, find the string "/proc/stat".
    3. Change the directory, "/proc" to something like "/pfoo" and write the shared library file back to liborb.so. You now have the required modified liborb.so.
    4. Make the /pfoo directory and cp /proc/stat /pfoo.
    5. Edit /pfoo/stat and duplicate the first line, which should be the cpu line. This will let the metrics parser handle it. Make sure that /pfoo/stat has read access.
Of course, the values that the metrics code gets are now bogus, but that does not seem to be a fatal problem.
Hopefully somebody from Oracle is reading this and the real fix will be in the mail soon.

  • Oracle 8 client for Linux

I really need to find the Oracle 8 client for Linux. It isn't available anywhere on Oracle's site. Is there an alternate way to get it? I need a modern PHP to be able to connect with an Oracle 7 database. It is not currently an option to upgrade the Oracle database, as much as I would love to do so.

8.0.4 for linux does not exists nor you need it to connect to a 8 database.
Just install the 9i client (available at OTN) and recompile your cgi's.

  • LabVIEW for Linux licensing

    Hello all,
I have LV6i for Linux installed on a Slackware distribution. I would
like to know why there is no serial number associated with the LV
installation. Usually when you install on Windows machine the
installatin will prompt you for a serial number. This is not the case
with LV for Linux. Entering a serial number is never mentioned.
The reason why I ask is because I'm a little confused on how this could
be dealt with during an audit, which I've never experienced. If I have
LV for Linux installed on several machines how would an NI auditor
determine that I have excess licenses? Not that I plan on doing this
.... unless it's legal with the Linux installation. This certainly isn't
implied in the license agreement but perhaps the
    re's an exception with
    Linux.
I'm trying to find yet another good reason for my employer to move to LV
    for Linux.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I am not a lawyer and I am not claiming to be an authority on our
licensing agreements. As someone else suggested, you should consult your NI
salesperson (or your own attorney) if you're unsure.
The licensing for LV for Linux is the same as for our other versions,
which is per seat. To run LabVIEW on five different computers, you need to
    buy five licenses.
The reason the LabVIEWs for UNIX don't ask for a ser
    ial number is
practical. Typically in the UNIX world, LabVIEW is installed by an
administrator who is different from the end user. We never bothered to
create a tool for the administrator to enter the serial number, and we can't
count on the end user having write access to the LabVIEW directory to store
the serial number. If this becomes an issue (e.g., your auditor won't let
you use LV for Linux because of this), we can try to address it.
    I hope this helps.

  • Installing OES 11 SP3 into Existing OES 11 SP1 tree

It been a while since I personally have installed a server into an existing Edir tree, never done it on Linux/OES. Can someone give a quick checklist I can follow that will aid me installing the new OES 11 SP3 into our existing EDir tree?
I am reading the OES 11 Documentation and it seems to me there should be some more server / tree health checking done before installing. I cant remember the command to check tree health right now either.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ken

Thanks for the reply. For some reason I remember more checks having to be done. But it has been several years and it was on Netware.
    Thanks for the information,
    Ken

The documentation should have everything you need. If you want to check
health further there are TIDs to do an eDirectory health check, but the
only thing I ever bother doing outside of looking things over briefly in
iMonitor (agent summary, obituary report, check the replica-ring for
non-green stuff) and time checking (be sure time is in syhnc, which is an
OS issue) is perhaps install a new test server into its own tree from
which I can import schema into the new tree. It is not required, but it's
one less thing to have fail during the real server install into the
    existing tree.
    Good luck.

    John -
You are missing some required Linux files. When you install
Linux, pick the 'everything' option, then weed out the obvious
things you don't want (like the Serbian How-To's, etc.)
I say this because I ran into the exact same thing this past
weekend after picking and choosing which packages to install for
Linux. After re-installing with the 'everything' option, the
Oracle install went swimmingly. I wish I could tell you which
package in particular you are missing, but I never figured that
    out.

  • [SOLVED]How to install this font : it doens't seem available for Linux

    Hi everyone,
I'm currently running Gnome, and I'm trying to have the same theme than here : http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … ent=108433. I've installed and used the Hydra theme : no problems with that.
The only thing I miss now is his font, I read the comments, and it's said the font used is "Zero Threes", they give a link (it's on page 2 if you want to check) : http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/Zero_Threes.htm
The problem is the font seems to be available on Mac and Windows, but I coulnd't find it for Linux. But the guy seem to have Linux and he's using it, so could somebody explain to me how can I get the font for linux ? Or if there is a way to install a Windows or a Mac font in Linux ?
    Thanks you in advance !

t4k1t wrote:The font is still only ttf so just download the win-version and copy the *.ttf file into your ~/.fonts directory.
Or, to make them available to all the users copy them to /usr/share/fonts/truetype directory.

  • Anyone able to give simple 'how to install' instructions for linux ?

I have a G5 1.8 with 3GB RAM; 80/160 internal SATA drives (the 160gb hd has 2 partitions and one with nothing on it) as well as a Lacie external 320 GB firewire drive. The empty partition on the 160gb drive has been created for Linux (if it ever gets installed).
I need to know where I can get a copy (I dont have a preference for any type yet-whatever works for a computer that is just used by me- as I just want to get started); How specifically to install it (I dont know anything about linux except I have heard about it's ease of use and how anyone can install it-except me it seems-I literally don't have a clue how to do it). Please leave out the geek speak (lol or at least just make it understandable for a someone who's pretty much a 'non-geek').
Thanks so much everyone. This has been a 3 month long odyssey for me with everyone I do ask giving me wildly different answers. As I say I have no idea how to do this and just want to get started.
    Anyone , please ?

    Hi-
There are a few choices for Linux, but there are some peculiarities when it comes to PPC Macs.
I'll give you this article on Ubuntu Linux which has some general discussion.
Anyhow, Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) may be a good version. Check Here.
For Ubuntu, download the software and burn to CD.
Insert the CD into the computer, and, after opening, there should be a screen asking you whether or not you want to run the Live CD. Select Live CD. After loading, the default Ubuntu desktop will show. Once you get to the desktop, select the icon for the full installation of Ubuntu.
Note that you need to install Ubuntu on the primary system disk.
Might have a look at Debian. Complete instructions for installation are Here.
