Trees laying on roadside telephone wires

I have been reporting multiple trees and limbs lying on the roadside telephone wires in my neighborhood since November of 2011.  These are not just branches and twigs but entire dead trees and very large branches that have been lying on the wires since our last severe weather in August of 2011.  I have reported this to Verizon, Baltimore County, my council representative, the County Executive and the Governor of MD.
I would like to emphasize that NO ONE has corrected the situation.  Shall we wait until it snows and then call this an "emergency situation".  I am disgusted.

Verizon does not perform any tree removal. Please contact your city government. If the service gets interrupted please let us know so we can get your service back working ASAP.

  • Modem stopped working. Cannot disconnect telephone wire. Lost internet connection

My parents DSL connection suddenly stopped working one day last week. I had them power cycle the modem which did not work. When I went to take a look at it, I noticed that the Internet light was blank. I tried a few things with no luck. I then decided to disconnect everything and start from scratch. I was not able to disconnect the telephone wire. It seems as though it fused itself into the port as I worked on it for the most of half an hour. Could this be part of the problem? If so, how would I go about getting a new modem?
As of now, the DSL light will blink and the Internet is completely blank.
    Thank you

If there is a physical problem with the phone line and the modem itself, in that you can't disconnect the line from the modem, it could certainly be related to the lost connection.
I suggest you call 1-800-Verizon and ask about a replacement modem. Be sure when you call in to put in your parent's telephone number and when prompted for options in the menu, select Technical Support and High Speed Internet.

  • Telephone wires sagging down from poles

Who can I contact about telephone wires sagging from the telephone poles?  At their lowest point, the wires are only about 10 feet above the ground.  At either end, they're 20+ feet up.  This is in Glendora, CA.  Thanks.

  • How can I get rid of telephone poles?

I take lots of pictures of buildings in urban settings. Quite often, I take a shot against a blue sky, and there is no way to frame or crop the picture to avoid having things like telephone poles or street lights in the photo.
I can use the retouch tool to "erase" telephone wires, but anything thicker than that leaves a smudge on the photo. The problem is especially acute when the object is close to trees or other non-sky elements because it's almost impossible to avoid the dark color of the trees.
The ideal solution would be to be able to copy a section of nearby sky and paste it over the offending object, but if there's a way to do that in iPhoto, I haven't found it.
I am strictly an amateur, so buying and learning PhotoShop is not an option. I've tried Picasa and a couple of other free editors, but none seem to do more than iPhoto. I've also downloaded GIMP, but I must admit that I haven't been able to master the interface.
    Any ideas?

You can't do this in iPhoto. You will need an external editor for the job.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    _[The Gimp|http://www.gimp.org/macintosh>_ also free
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    [Pixelmator|http://www.pixelmator.com> ($60 approx.)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Do a search in Google for for tutorials based on whatever one you try. There is a wealth of help on sites like You Tube. For instance I search You Tube with "Gimp Tutorial" and found this

  • Tree on lines in Lynn Township, PA

During a storm last week, a tree fell on some telephone lines on Golden Key Rd (Route 863) in Lynn Township (Kempton), PA.  About 1/2 mile north of Kistler Valley Rd.  Near pole # B-16-13
I called Verizon to report this issue last Friday and it has not yet been fixed.
The wire is literally holding the tree up on the lines and I am afraid it will break and cut off my landline.
Please send someone out to fix it.
    Thanks.

  • How long does it take BT to install a telephone po...

I've moved to a cottage in a rural area of Scotland. There's no telephone line but there is a telephone pole in the front of the house that provides a line to the house next door. BT were due to connect the line and provide a telephone and broadband service on 27 April (yes, over 3 months ago...). The engineer came out but said that the telephone pole is too short and the telephone wire would not be high enough over the road for current regulations (even though there's a wire going across the road to my neighbour's house and it's a private road). They said they would come and put in another pole for me and the date was set. This has since been delayed and delayed (firstly because of 'storm damage' in the region and secondly something to do with 'plant lines'). I've been promised dates when it would be installed only to find out (by ringing up myself) that it would be delayed again. I've had to chase at every turn with BT failing to keep me updated and failing to call me when promised. I've lodged three formal complaints and I'm at my wit's end. I'm a woman living on my own in an isolated area with patchy mobile phone coverage. I'm trying to set up my own freelance business but I can't do this properly with internet access or a reliable phone service. It's an incredibly frustrating situation, made even more frustrating by BT's attitude and lack of contact. I'm not sure how to go about getting movement on this - my MP? The ombudsman? Is BT not providing a decent service to people in rural areas because it's not a priority? Any help with this would be appreciated. Am I right in thinking that BT are obliged under a Universal Service Obligation to provide access to basic telephone services, and is there a timeframe under this obligation?

    Hi EveM,
I can understand how this would be annoying, especially since you are trying to set up a business.  I may not be able to speed things up here as it sounds like Openreach have ran into problems getting the new pole up but I will be happy to keep an eye on the case for you and provide regular updates so you know what's happening.
Could you drop me in an email please with your BT account and telephone number if you have one or an order reference?
Just send using the contact us form in my profile under the 'about me' section.
    Thx

  • HP LJ 1563 Telephone Problem

HP 1536 All-in-One, using as a connected printer using USB cabling running Win 7 and as a Fax machine.
I ran the Fax Test Report  and passed everything, active telephone line, correct port, phone line current test and dial tone detected.
The problem - The telephone wire comes out of the wall into the 1536 and from the 1536 to my telephone. By replacing and playing with the wires, I have determine that the 1536 is not passing any telephone signal through it, incoming or out-going. I am unable to get a dial tone on the land line. If I bypass the 1536, with the telephone no problem.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Well, I am not sure what I did or what happened, but it is now fixed.
I download and installed new firmware (2014) and ran a utility (I don't think that did anything) but the problem is now solved.

  • Reccomended Type Of Wire For DSL Phone Line?

I have my DSL modem on its own jack, and I need too replace the wiring from the jack to the service box, its currently half thermostat wire (for furnaces and such) and half phone line, I understand there are different types of wire, so I am wondering which type is the best, what I currently have is the flat 4 wire stranded, instead of solid, I am told that isnt reccommended. So I need to know what to get, that will work the best.

Aside from using cat-5 as the previous post suggests, typical inside wire telephone wire is a beige plastic covered 2 pair (4 wire) phone wire. Each wire is solid and not braided wire. You can probably get it in different lengths from a nearby lowes or home depot.
Typically, the red and green wire are used as the tip and ring connections for line 1 in your house. The black and yellow wire are used for line 2 if you have a second line or as spare wires in case either the red or green have an issue. A pair of wires will be needed to be connected at the entry point of your service and connected to the phone jack that you will connect the dsl modem to. Use the red and green.
    Hope this helps.

  • Another Slow constant disconnect DSL WHY?

How  or when  will   I ever get  internet    service that stays connected?     Already today   we  have gone from  3 bars  to    1  and 3 disconnectes  in  the  past 2 hours.   Oh  I get  it  I am not supposed to be  on  line,  my service does not support   netflix...   so  how am  I supposed to  use  my netflix?     I can't  move  to  with in  the golden  mile  that  Verizon  claims  is all  DSL  is good for.   HELP   me find a servce that  actually works.

Oh   I am  not referring to   netflix bars   I am referring to   the  connection.   This  has been  going  on   for  over a year  and  is getting worst.  With bad  knees  and a bad back   having to  climb  the stairs  to  where the router  is located  a dozen  times a day   is  just not worth the agrivation  anymore.  Verizon  does not  give a hoot,   they can't maintain  their equipment      when  there  is a poblem  you can't  connect  to  a person  you can't  get them  to  remove  trees  laying  on   the wires ( as  in  a dead  fallen  tree  that  eventually will take the wires down.)    I am  about to give  up   and when  I  do  Verizon   is gone   internet and phone.   We just do  not live  in  town   or a development  so  are inconsequential.     Next step  the FCC.

  • Bt Infinity, they don't show that on the Advert!

Just had BT Infinity installed, I was away at the time, so imagine my disappointment when I saw that sleek black Hub 3 sitting on a scabby white "80s throwback" OpenReach fibre box, you don't see that on the advert, so why can I see it on my hall table?  Surely BT, if you're going to design something that looks really nice, any other equipment that has to accompany it, should look equally nice!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Another thing they dont tell you is that the Openreach modem twinkles like a Christmas tree
What with that and the 2 lights on the inspire base station, the 3 blue lights on the HH, the green light on the British gas smartmeter monitor etc the table next to the TV glows in the dark!
Then dont even start me about  the amount of wires behind the TV apart from all the BB/telephone wires there is ariel cables,Sky cables, tv and recorder, sky+ box.
Please someone invent a way to do away with all these wires and thats with wireless connection to my laptop! and do all electronics have to stay lit up when not in use

  • Large outside Junction/Control box has flashing red light - bad or normal?

There is a Verizon outside box that is large with a flashing red light on its side.  It appears to be a junction or control box mounted on the ground.  It has been there for years and I do not remember seeing a flashing red light until now.  Plus, my DSL connection has been dropping recently.  Can a tech rep from Verizon High Speed Internet answer?  Thank you for yur patience.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

These boxes are called Remote Terminals, and yes it is for DSL.  The flashing light probably means that the battery backup has failed, so it shouldn't really affect your DSL unless your power goes out.  And even then, the battery backup is only to power the voice line to make calls.
I would call 1-800-VERIZON and choose the option about "repair."  I've had luck with getting poles replaced/repaired that way.  Say that there's a flashing red light on the remote terminal, give the street address, and also give the central office you're out of (IE, your area code and first 3 digits of your phone number should tell the rep where you are).  Also, stop by it and see if you can find any writing/markings on that, and tell them that too.  Be as specific as possible.  Make sure you get a ticket number from them, and make sure they have a call back number.
There was a tree laying on a wire near me, and I made sure I got a repair ticket; the next day a tech called me to say he was headed out that way and asked specific details about the location, what was wrong, etc.   A few days later the tree was gone.

  • Can't do all my edits in one layer like I used to PS CS3 something happended after I synced my new iphone

    Hello.
I do not know what happened but I used to be able to take a photo from Lightroom 2 and do any minor final edits in PSCS3 and do them all right there on the image that would open up.  I don't need to or want to do layer upon layer for the minor changes that I am doing, ie: remove telephone wire, or gum on ground plus a little dodge and burning.  Now that I have to do a new layer for each thing I need it has become a nightmare and is sucking up my editing time. How do I get PS back to where I can do this all in one shot?  I view my image with Legacy and sample with all layers - oh for example if I go to clone something and it is not the new layer I get the colors of orange and grey that come up from where I use the tool.  I am on Mac OSX 10.5.7 and all was working fine until I synced my new iphone with the computer.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Using my ibook in costa rica

Happy New Year. I'm moving to Costa Rica this month and am wondering if I can just plug my telephone into my ibook g-4 osx 10-4-8 and get internet connection. In other words, is there an internal modem that will convert digital to analog or do i have to by some sort of external device.

Hi A — welcome to Apple discussions!
I think yes, you can just plug in the telephone wire into your iBook, and you can get Internet connection by doing that — provided you have an Internet Service Provider that will give you dial-up Internet access. You also have to know what the ISP number is (and obviously your username and password for them.)
    Happy New Year!
