TreeSet and Comparator problem
Hi all ,
I am using jdk1.3 , jbuilder4.0 , Apache Tomcat 1.3.14 and Window 98 and Access Database.
I have comparator code below which give me some problem
public int compare(Object x, Object y) {
CompanyJB a = (CompanyJB)x , b = (CompanyJB)y;
double aMinratio = a.getMinratio();
double bMinratio = b.getMinratio();
int aCompid = a.getCompanyid();
int bCompid = b.getCompanyid();
String aRankstr = a.getRank();
String bRankstr = b.getRank();
int tmp;
tmp = new Integer(aCompid).compareTo(new Integer(bCompid));
if (tmp == 0) {
return tmp;
tmp = a.getRank().compareTo(b.getRank());
if (tmp !=0) {
return tmp;
tmp = new Double(a.getMinratio()).compareTo(new Double(b.getMinratio()));
if (tmp !=0) {
return tmp;
return new Double(a.getMinratio()).compareTo(new Double(b.getMinratio()));
Client source code below :
TreeSet list2 = new TreeSet(new test());
//list2.add(new test(2,1.9,4.2,"NA")); // 1
list2.add(new test(11,8.5,8.5,"2")); // 3
list2.add(new test(1,0.6,0.6,"NA")); // 2
list2.add(new test(11,2.5,2.3,"NA")); // 4
list2.add(new test(12,0.3,0.3,"1")); // 5
list2.add(new test(2,1.9,1.2,"NA"));
list2.add(new test(12,0.9,0.9,"NA"));
Iterator iterator2 = list2.iterator();
while(iterator2.hasNext()){
System.out.println(((test)iterator2.next()).getCompanyid());
My problem is that the print out display duplicate company id "12" in the set.
It should not display the duplicate company id in the set.
What is the problem here ?? Anybody have ideas ??
Actually, a Set, as defined in java.util.Set, should not contain duplicate members. With SortedSets, however, there must also be consistency between equals() and the compareTo() (or Comparator.compare()). In other words, equal objects must sort to the same or an adjacent place in order for the Set semantics to work.
In your example, "equal" objects can appear in completely different positions in the sort order, throwing off this consistency. When adding, it's traversing the tree in Rank,MinRatio order. If by chance it runs across a node that has the same company id, it stops and leaves the trees alone (as it does with id=11). If you try graphing the tree out by hand using your compare() as left/right criteria (negative left, positive right, 0 don't change), it'll become immediately clear what's happening.
Also of interest: you'll find that you can't add test(34,1.9,1.2,"NA") to the list: because it's Rank and MinOrder is the same as the id=2 entry, it'll never get added.

I am trying to implement a schedule using a TreeSet and a Comparator.
The TreeSet constructor receives a Comparator.
Then I start adding objects that implement an Interface called ScehdulableInterface.
All objects that implement this interface have a method:
Public Date getDate()
The Comparator compare method is defined like this:
public int compare(Object o1, Object o2) {
return ((SchedulableInterface)o1).getEndDate().compareTo(((SchedulableInterface)o2).getEndDate());
My problem is the TreeSet is not accepting objects in the same date. Is there any other Collection that accepts the Comparator interface and accepts objects with the same date ?
Thanks.
EliOf course with something like this:public int compare(Object o1, Object o2) {
// checks for null and other error handling omitted...
SchedulableInterface si1 = (SchedulableInterface) o1;
SchedulableInterface si2 = (SchedulableInterface) o2;
int endDateCompare = s1.getEndDate().compareTo(s2.getEndDate();
if (endDateCompare == 0) {
return s1.getSubject().compareTo(s2.getSubject());
} else {
return endDateCompare; -
Say I have a class called Player which implements Comparable. And I want to put the Player object into a TreeSet. Inside the Player class I have a compareTo method. Will then the TreeSet be automatically use the compareTo method inside the Player class to put the Player elements inside the TreeSet??
the weird tning is that whenever I tried to erase the
compareTo method on the Player class, I can't
add/remove player from the tree setRead the docs. You have to either provide elements that implement Comparable, or you have to provide a Comparator. Ignore reply 1. He doesn't know what he's talking about. -
Hello,
We are working on Macinthosh intel - Mac Pro Intel Xeon september 2007, with MacOs 10.7.3.
After trying to install the beta version of Photoshop CS6, we got serious problems.
- The CS5 Photoshop and Acrobat 9 is not working anymore.
When we want to "save as…", both application will crash.
When we do "save as weboptimized", un error says that the file already exists.
We did not manage to install the CS6 Photoshop beta neither.
I tried EVERYTHING supposed to do in other forums and in the adobe forums, like:
- latest version of AdobeApplication Manager
- Adobe cleaner tool
- Adobe support advisor
- cleaning manually everything on the disk which containes CS6
- Reparing Autorisation
- Trying to reinstall CS5 (but without issue
- trash prefs
- deactivate and reactivate PHotoshop
and some others…
When trying to "save as" or save as weboptimized…", the following errors appears:
The operation could not be completed.
An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred. Photoshop will now exit.
When trying to "save as weboptimized" the following error appears:
A file or directory already exists with the same name.
When exporting or "save as" in Acrobat:
Acrobat is blocked, everything in the application menu is turned gray but there is not open window.
I have to exit with "esc+Alt+Command"
All this problems occured after installation of Photoshop Beta CS6, which could not be completed because of some more errors causing a licence conflict with CS5.
We were also trying the Adobe support advisor, we got the following error massage:

We found the solution. I trie to give some details, if some other folks have a similar problem, perhaps they can find their solution with everything discussed in this topic.
All this was not working, after trying it several times:
Disk Utility> Repair Disk & Repair Permissions
Cocktail OSX (clear all caches)
Reboot and test
delete all printers
then look for a CS6 cleaner like http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
rebuild diskstructure and filestructure with several utilities like Techtool, Onyx.
We could not uninstall the complete Photoshop cs5 only, because in case of uninstalling the whole Mastercollection, this is much to much work to reinstall all of the extension from Dreamweaver which have to be activated and installed one by one.
What has been working is:
TRY a New User Account (to rule out User preference/settings) !!!
So this gave us un idea:
Compare the library of both USER-ACCOUNTS : "ALICE" and the new one we called "TEST".
Then we RENAMED the following folders in the /USER/LIBRARY: "Caches", "Recent Servers", "Saved Application State" and crated a new folder with the same name (we deleted it after, in case there will be some problems to restore the old ones)
We put all the INVISIBLE FILES and FOLDERS present in the USER folder which names are beginning with a .dot, like .filename (e.g.: ".adobe", ".bash_history", ".BridgeCache", etc.) into another folder which we are going to delete later on.
Finally we deleted all files "suspected" not to be there in the ALICE user account, in comparision to the TEST USER ACCOUNT.
And "miracle": Everything is working again, after 2 days of searching…
Thanks to everyone of you.
Best regards,
Alice -
I've been using the Project Documentation view recently to quickly compare dc signals against changes that I make to an electrical system. What I'm trying to do is capture a few seconds of a DC signal, stop acquisition, make a change in the system, then capture a few more seconds of the same signal and compare the two.
Project Documentation view is nice because I can drag the graphs onto the document for quick on the fly comparison.
Problem is, I drag a acquired signal's graph onto the document expecting the waveform to 'freeze' so that I can capture another segment of data and drag that graph onto the document for comparison. But once I acquire this second burst of data the first graph captures the live waveform, overwriting the baseline waveform I'm trying to compare against.
Is there a way to screencapture or freeze the graph so that multiple graphs can be stacked within the document form without them all updating?

I’m not sure if you can do exactly what you want. If it were me, I would take the first reading, then save it to an LVM file, then take the second reading, store that to an LVM file, then load the files to compare.

Hi,
We have an M4000 which is connected to numerous HDS USPV1 LUN's (not sure of the HDS configuration).
The problem is when a Database load occurs the response time goes from 50ms upto 100ms. There is no io/wait, load average is low, no CPU or memory problems but %b on iostat is constantly at 99/100%.
Im told the maximum number of IOPS from hds LUN is 720 (and there are 15 LUN's presented to zpool's).
I turned to dtrace in the hope of finding something which would explain the problem but after reading up countless blogs, PDF's im still at a loss. I downloaded the dtrace toolkit and ran iotop, iosnoop etc etc which although produced a lot of info it was in fact too much info and didnt really show what the problem was (although didnt think it would be that easy).
In fact when running iosnoop/iowait I received the following:
dtrace: 679 dynamic variable drops
dtrace: 1 dynamic variable drop with non-empty rinsing list
dtrace: 664 dynamic variable drops with non-empty dirty list
dtrace: 1712 dynamic variable drops
dtrace: 2074 dynamic variable drops
dtrace: 2123 dynamic variable drops
I'll be investigating and reading up further on dtrace but in the meantime if anyone could point me in the direction of a dtrace command which could enlighten me as to the IO problem it would be appreciated. Appreciate its a far reaching question but anything would help!!!
Thanks.Thanks try and go through them one by one.....
the %b/busy column in iostat is commonly mis-understood. There is a good document in the my support knowledge base explaining why busy is at 100%. It hard to generalise but if %b is 100% with little signs of issues its normally the application (database in this case) is not utilising the hardware, eg going stuff in serials instead of parallel.
What Does %b (or %Busy) Actually Mean in the Output of iostat(1M)? [ID 1003635.1]
The 'dtrace: xxxx dynamic variable drops' messages are associated with the internal dtrace log buffers overfilling. Off the top of my head the easier way to address this is reduce the amount of data you are logging, increase the buffer size of increase the rate these buffers are flushed. Try looking at the following two documents. You may be interested in bufsize, dynvarsize and cleanrate.
http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace/Buffers+and+Buffering
http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace/Options+and+Tunables
No idea where 720 IOPS came from. Very rough rule of thumbs is if you are getting 500 iops from a standard disk your are doing well. With someone workloads you may only see 150 iops. If you look at the specs for some of the arrays your talking 100k iops if not more.
Stuff changes all the time but last time I looked response times within iostat are the amount of time an io is on the wire PLUS the time to complete that io in software PLUS the time to schedule the next io. So get the numbers iostat reports and compare it those the array is reporting. Are they the same (array saturated?) or different (software issue?) or something else.
Anyway, play with dtrace and see what you can work out.
All rather interesting for a nerd. -
I allowed Apple updates about two weeks ago and now Safari is way too slow. I have tried using Airport and Ethernet and the problem is the same. Yesterday, I upgraded to Safari 5.1 and now the problem is worse. Any solutions?
I can't stand peremptory affirmations like "Nothing is wrong with Safari".
Thousands of users can't be wrong (see the discussions).
If I read you the right way, it's never software' fault, it's the user who's the culprit.
Amazing!
In this very case, the fact is we can't give to "christinefromfonthill" a good solution because weren't sitting in front of her Mac.
You give her a good advice which could, perhaps, lead to an improvement.
But must also admit that Safari is a very slow browser compared to Firefox or Chrome.
And you can't ignore all the problems which arose when upgrading to Lion and were related to the new build and specs of Safari 5.1.
The best example is the apparition of "garbage type" (use of Last Resort font) when reading numerous sites. This never occured before and is the direct consequence of Safari compliance to Web Open Type. This standard prohibits the use of Type 1 Postscript Fonts and is the reason why so many people are in trouble.
I use a Mac for more than 25 years.
I am a very "clean" user who hates the bells and whistles of third party.
My Mac is always up-to-date and despite all my Mac loving care, I run into some problems.
Imagine the nightmare which can occurs for the vulgum pecus who isn't, by definition, a power user aware of all the requirements for running a System in optimal conditions.
May be Safari is one step in advance on its time but lambda users are paying the price for it. -
Need Help with Array.sort and compare
Hi
I have a big problem, i try to make a java class, where i can open a file and add new words, and to sort them in a right order
Ok everthing works fine, but i get a problem with lower and upper cases.
So i need a comparator, i tried everything but i just dont understand it.
How do i use this with Array.sort??
I hope someone can help meOkay, you want to ignore case when sorting.
There are two possibilities: Truly ignore case, so that any of the following are possible, and which one you'll actually get is undefined, and may vary depending on, say, which order the words are entered in the first place:
English english German german
english English german German
English english german German
english English German german
The second possibility is that you do consider case, but it's of lower priority--it's only considered if the letters are the same. This allows only the first two orderings above.
Either way, you need to write a comparator, and call an Arrays.sort method that takes both array and Comparator.
The first situation is simpler. Just get an all upper or lower case copy of the strings, and then compare thosepublic int compare(Object o1, Object o2) {
String s1 = ((String)o1).toUpper();
String s2 = ((String)o1).toUpper();
return s1.compareTo(s2);
} You'll need to add your own null check if you need one.
For the second way, your comparator will need to iterate over each pair of characters. If the characters are equal, ignoring case, then you compare them based on case. You pick whether upper is greater or less than lower.
Of course, the need to do this assumes that such a method doesn't alrady exist. I don't know of one, but I haven't looked. -
Hi,
Now i have a image on VI ,i want to take rectangale postion of the image and compare with the other image(In this image also i need to take a small postionof it) and show the result.
Both image are equal or not....if it is equal show pass if the image is not ok fail.
Regards,
Sri.First i would like to thanks for the inputs,
I have made one Vi for comparing the two images and display equal or not.
Problem:if there is a small change in the picture it is showing false ,but the image is ok only the contract ,clarity ,inclination is the problem... i need your help in controlling that image......like controlling the colors and telling if the color , shade, projection of the image of the image is in between this range show it as ok....
i started with cluster taking the out put of the BMP file, but i am not able to do....can u help me on this.
i am attaching the file what i have made...

Comparable and Comparator Interface - Collections
Hi All
Please let me know when to use Comparable interface and Comparator interface. ?
Any sort of information is highly appreciable .

So, when you googled, and found tutorials, and worked through those tutorials, and read the javadocs for those classes, what in particular did you not understand?If everything would work like that what will be the use of forums like this , It does work like that, for people who aren't lazy. The use of these forums, as indicated by my first reply, is among other things, when you've done your own research, as you should do, and run into something you don't understand.
so dont try to be smart :(Maybe you should try to be smarter.
Lets try not to abuse the forum with exchanges like this. The only abuse so far has been you expecting the forum to be a substitute for doing your own research.
I know how to use Comparable and Comparator but dont know when to use these in a real time application.That statement says nothing about your problem. The only information it carries is that you don't know what the term "real time" means. -
hi folks,
first problem
i've just recently installed arch64 and read through the many pages of "world of warcraft" search in the forum.
when i run it i get an error that says "Please install a 3D accelerator card with dual-TMU support." according to the gentoo wiki, it says to use a different nvidia drivers so i pulled nvidia-169 from the testing repo and that still happen. has anyone gotten wow to run? i'll try to set up a chroot environment later.
second problem.
installed mythtv and when i scan for channels i would get an error like so
mythtv-setup: xcb_lock.c:33: _XCBUnlockDisplay: Assertion `xcb_get_request_sent(dpy->xcb->connection) == dpy->request' failed.
tried reinstall libxcb and it doesn't seem to help.
any ideas?
solved the TMU issue, now wow run in a huge resolution 3050x1050 because i have twinview setup. gotta figure out a way to get it back to 1680x1050

and compare that to a norwegian host
PING www.sau.no (194.63.248.23) 56(84) bytes of data.

all in all, you should not be so annoyed unless your used to sub 10 ms ofc.. but this is still very quick for a webhost, atleast i think so. -
I have an aplication that can recive data (an integer and string), it stores it in a datafile and adds the date and time. However, I need that everytime a new set of data cames, it ctompares it with the rest of the data stored in the same file. If it the integer (key) is repeated, it should be stored in a different file if not, it should be stored there.
I been able to read and write data files in different vi, but I can't makean application that does everything at the same time. I will appreaciate any suggestions. I'm new with LabView and there is a lot I dont know yet.
Thank you!!!!Thanks for your suggestion. However, the main problem is not how to read and write together but how to compare the data. I started by writing and reading vi becuase I wanted to insolate every part of my program, be sure it works and then build on top of it. The complete application should do something like:
--Open two files, one for new data, one for repeted data
-- User enters data -> a key as integer and some string
-- compare the new key with ALL the keys already stored in the file.
-- if the file is empty or no key is found in the file, write the data in the file for new data
-- If the key is repeted, write the data in the file for repeted data
-- Keep doing this until the user stops the application.
What I really need is to be able to compare the recent entered data to what was entered before. I chose to save data in a datalog because it seemed the best solution and because I also needed to store the date and time. However, if there is any other way to store the data and compare it, please let me know. I tried arrays and clusters by themselves but it wasnt easy. Datalogs worked fine storing data but now comparing is too hard because I dont know how to read the file, record by record while comparing it to the new data I just got.
I hope this is a little bit clearer! -
Have just installed DWmx 8 on a new machine and found that
the context
menu for sync and compare with remote is not enabled..
I assume it is something to do with the way I have configured
my sites...
Any ideas???Can you log into .mac mail? That will tell you if your username and password are OK.
I recently had a similar problem, so I unregistered my work and home computers (using the Advanced tab of .mac preferences) from .mac then re-registered them. At that point, you are offered the initial sync choices like the first time you connected to .mac.
Be careful that you don't overwrite your data. I highly suggest making backups of your Address Book, Safari Bookmarks, iCal, iDisk files, etc. on all computers before starting the process.

'''(in English)'''Hi Danny,
Per my understanding that you can't get the expect result by using the expression "=Count(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4) " to count the the TICKET_STATUS which value is 4, the result will returns the count of all the TICKET_STATUS values(206)
but not 180, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, the issue caused by you are using the count() function in the incorrect way, please modify the expression as below and have a test:
=COUNT(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4 ,1,Nothing))
or
=SUM(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS=4,1,0))
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.
