'Trembling / Shivering Display

Hello - I had originally posted on this issue some months ago in the Imac G3 forum in regard to my daughter's desktop. But the recent purchase of a used, but very late model Emac G4, has encouraged me to share this experience. All the forum / Google advice on the trembling desktop display was consistent and on the button [for a computer problem]; ie, declaring the PAV board / &or the logic board were 'going'; maybe two weeks, maybe some unknown 'longer' time frame. After plugging in the 'new' Emac at her desk - Same problem! This led me to search elsewhere; I changed out the outlet serving her desk - immediate stability! And for both machines. Thought I'd share this; the outlet was only perhaps three years old, and good quality, but had failed, leading to intermittant voltage to the CPU. Thanks, Eric

  • EMac shivering display issue

Hi guys, I saw this topic of discussion a while ago. The problem seems to happen during spinning of the HD. I was and still having this problem since day 1 (mine is 2 yrs old unit now). Sent twice to service provider, all available parts have been replaced - logic board, power board and CRT (twice). FYI, I have upgraded my HD from 40GB to 120GB (day 1 purchased of the eMac) and now 200GB. Both HD are Maxtor Diamond series. Just last week after another complaint to Apple, they arange another service provider to pick up the unit. Well, they blame on the un-OEM HD upgrading which is thicker in size than their OEM HD. This caused the HD to touch the internal body and the spinning vibration caused the shivering display on CRT. According to them apple care plan doesn't cover this and I was made to pay for the transportation fee.
Well, what do you guys think? I would think that upgrading of HD is a very common thing to do. I don't have any such problem when upgrading my PC HD. To replace with Apple OEM HD will cost us here a bomb. And what's the point of paying for expensive apple care plan? The reason given in their job sheet is simple: using third party item which is not OEM product. As to why the vibration causing it, no answer. To me, this is purely a design flaw from Apple. When asking for more explanation, everyone in Apple saying this is not their field and refuse to "speculate" on this issue and I was kick around to beg for more explanations. So, what say you guys about this?

Hi, thnx for sharing your experience. Yes, we have the same problem here. My eMac still has 1 more year of apple care on cover now but I don't think it is useful anymore now. So far, all parts have been replaced for my unit except the housing. I was made to understand from Apple people here that the OEM HD they used is Maxtor as well but now they are telling it's the slim version and it cost a bomb here. Adding in the cost of replacing OEM HD for 200GB and an apple care plan, I can buy a pretty decent PC here.
The service provider told me that the vibration caused this problem due to the the authorised reseller "forced" in the Maxtor 200GB HD into it's bracket. The reseller then give their own version of explanation that all HD size is the same and if it can be seated onto the bracket then it was not "forced". When I queried the service provider and apple guys from Australia as to why the vibration can caused such a problem, all stopped short at it, the only arguement they gave was "you replaced the HD with not an Apple OEM version"...and that was end of the story. And I was made to pay for their transportation fee even though I got the apple care. A call to their toll free no. technical dept. & customer care was returned with the same simple & short reply. What an irresponsibility act from Apple.
I love the Mac and it's OS but the after sales service here is really *****! If they are telling me the "vibration" is causing the screen shivering, then it can only mean to me that Apple is not carrying out the trial test properly when launching this product and never had any vibration test done. This is probably the problem with Apple product, want to cramp in everything inside a compact casing but never really care about future upgrade and reliability, and with some exorbitant charges on spare-parts. That is why they have many flop models in the past. Now, I'm disapointed & upset. Perhaps I should look up to Bill Gates again and wait for the longhorn launching next year. As far as I concerned Apple is considered DEAD in this region.

  • How can I remove desktop widgets?

How can previously downloaded widgets be removed from the system?
In OS X 10.10.1, clicking the dashboard icon causes active widgets to be displayed. Also displayed are two circles in the bottom left of the screen. One circle contains a plus sign. The other circle contains a minus sign.
Clicking the circle with the plus sign causes the icons of all widgets, including widgets downloaded but not active, to be displayed.
Clicking the circle with the plus sign also causes it to go dim
Clicking the circle with the minus sign causes the icons of all widgets to tremble. Pressing the alt/option key also causes the icons of all widgets to tremble.
Some of the trembling icons display an X in a circle.
Clicking on a trembling icon’s circle with the X has no effect.
What is the meaning and purpose of the circles with the X’s?

Clicking the X-es on the trembling widgets are supposed to remove the widget from the Dashboard. Since this doesn't happen there might be something wrong.
Please see if the following helps:
Open the Finder and find the "go" menu in the top left corner of your computer display (not the Finder window itself) Click: "go > go to folder"
In the field that appears, type, or copy-paste: ~/library/widgets and click [go]
Trash any unwanted widgets you find in this folder.

  • Display shivers on Hard Disk activity

    Hello all,
The problem I have has been discussed here before. The display of my eMac shivers when the Hard Disk is accessed. The problems started after I replaced the IVAD cable to fix the raster shift problem (which I do not experience anymore). So far I have read on this forum that more people have experienced the same problem. But what I am interested in is a fix for this problem! It seems to be some kind of shielding problem. Could this also be related to the IVAD cable? I do believe that simply adding shielding at the right place should fix the problem, but where? Maybe anyone else has already experimented on finding a fix for this problem and is willing to share any ideas.
    Regards,
    Bart Dubelaar

4GB files on a 32-bit kernel and you run into what I call a bottleneck.
More RAM helps; and using dual RAID0's also allows for more I/O.
2GB left over falls into the anemia category.
The system drive from other experiments, tests, and benchmarks, does a lot more than just sit there and feed up applications.
And just as a fast SSD or 10K drive, or setting those up in RAID0, offers 240-500MB/sec, your memory bandwidth also plays a role.
When working with 2GB files in CS2 and later, arrays for every volume + whatever RAM you can throw at it helps.
Some operations are still single-thread and hold everything up, when you export or save or write to disk RAID makes up for some of that. A file is written out as temp file, old file is renamed, and when done deleted, while the directory and index are updated. And Spotlight rather than wait for things to be done, CAN get in the way while you work.
I don't know the full gist, but back in G3/G4, SCSI arrays made a big enough difference that I splurged on the full setup (two dual channel controllers driving 15K and 10K drives). And without? it was a real tortoise.
If you think 2GB is 'enough' to run OS X alone, let alone Safari, iTunes, Pages or office apps, let alone any pro apps or ones that need some RAM... CS4+ should have an 8GB system.
And the RAM needs of a Mac Pro have just never been as low or comparable to your desktop or laptop system.
But stay with 4GB if you don't mind.

  • My iPhone 6 screen is shivering and blurred

I purchased iPhone 6 a month ago. Since two days suddenly my iPhone 6 display start shivering. I can't read and see clearly. It is all blurred. It is not dropped down neither crashed. I use it very friendly and normal. But I did one thing and that is updating the iOS to latest version iOS 8.1.3. I did restart, reset and restore to old backup but got no solution. Could you please help me how to overcome this problem? Thank you so much.

Thank you. But yesterday I took my mobile to some local mobile repair services here in Kabul. After checking the problem all of them said the screen LCD should be change. The LCD display screens of iPhone 6 is available at USD.140 here with a month guarantee (only for touch). But I don't have any idea about the product manufacturer of the iPhone parts is it only US? or any other country including China and Korea can produce iPhone parts? Should I go with local repair? And do you think quality of the screen (LCD display) really matter? Hope I receive quick response, because cant  tolorate with blurred and shaking screen more than this, thanks.

  • Issue with external display darkening via HDMI on macbook air using VLC

I had a 2010 macbook pro which never had this issue.
When I play a downloaded movie on macbook air in VLC anywhere from 45 min to 1 hour the tv will darken to barely see anything, I then have to hit esc to take VLC out of full screen mode then select full screen mode again and the tv is back to normal brightness showing movie.
This does not happen with Miro, but most of the downloaded movies (avi) do not have sound in Miro which is why I use VLC when Miro has no sound for a particular movie.
Anyone run into this issue before with VLC on a macbook air using mini display port to HDMI on a TV?
This wouldnt be an issue if the sound worked in Miro for these movies! Some AVI files do have sound in Miro but most do not.
    Thanks!!!

Bought the mini display port -> dvi adaptor, plugged in the dvi and everything seems to be fixed.
Nice crisp 1920x1080 display, no shivers...
Looks like the signal from vga is not robust enough for this resolution.
    Solved.

  • External Monitor "shivers" on MacBook Air

I have attached a 27" HP 2711x monitor to my MacBook Air using the mini-port->vga adaptor. The display is recognised as HP 2711 and the resolution is set to 1920x1080. Looks great.
However, every so often (like every 3-5 minutes), the whole display 'shivers'. If I set the resolution to the next lowest (1680x1050) I get the same problem. If I set the resolution to 1600x1024, the shivering occurs constantly. If I go lower then the display settles down and works without shivering, but now I've lost the benefit of the high-res display...I'm currently writing this with the external display set to 1600x900, no shivering...
Reading a few threads, looks like switching to DVI or HDMI might work better, so I'm going to get a dvi adaptor and try that.
Any thoughts on what's going on?
    I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MacBook Air from 2011 (2.13Ghz Core2 Duo, 4Gb DDR3, NVidia GeForce 320M)
I read on one thread that the latest drivers from nVidia helped so I have the CUDA 4.2.10 drivers installed.

Bought the mini display port -> dvi adaptor, plugged in the dvi and everything seems to be fixed.
Nice crisp 1920x1080 display, no shivers...
Looks like the signal from vga is not robust enough for this resolution.

  • Powerbook 1.25 with Lacie Photon 19 display - problem

    Hi,
I'm trying to use my Powerbook G4 1.25ghz with an external Lacie Photon 19 Vision but I'm having some problems.
The ext. display is connected through DVI and when I try to set the ext display resolution to 1280 x1024 the whole image trembles/jumps i.e. is is not at all stable. Refresh rate is only 60mhz. I have to reduce to resolution to 1152 in order ot get a stable image. I have tried with the powerbook closed and open but it doesn't change anything.
According to the documentation it should work??
Any help would be more than appreciated.
    Thanks
    Wilhelm

If you feel up to going through the trouble, download and install SwitchRes X (I recommend SwitchRes X Control Panel over the full version) and under the Resolutions/Display tab is a button labeled "Export DDC." Click on it and it will generate a text file. Post the resulting text here and I'll help you sift through it for any clues as to what may be going wrong.

  • Using mini-DVI to VGA adapter to Samsung display

I have 2009 late model of mac mini, The text on display looks washed out, not clear or sharp at all from day one, I thought it was the old model of monitor, tried the same cable to another monitor on another computer, SAME. so I thought the problem could be the cable or adapter.
It's hard for me to believe is the signal from computer. I'm using VGA adapter made by Dynex bought from Best Buy.
    Anybody has suggestions?? Thanks

Yeah, My old Samsung is lcd synmaster 17", bought many years ago at around $1000. Crazy, crazy price looked back. It's fine when I used it on the retired old Dell. It must be the adapter, trying not to buy another VGA adapter, could not image my next lcd will use one, anyway.
This cable has only 14 pins vs 15 pins on the other cable, not sure if it matters?? Or if Safari has anything to do with it??
    Thank for you reply...

  • Mini-dvi to video adapter changing display on macbook?

I recently purchased a mini-dvi to video adapter for my macbook to be able to view photos and video on my tv. I'm having trouble with the display on my computer when I use the adapter. As soon as I plug in the mini-dvi video adapter into the computer the display on my computer switches from 1280 X 800 to 640 X 480. Attached to the adapter I have an s-video cable to my tv. The display shows the same on the tv but in black and white.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Turn mirroring off. That way the two displays can run independently from one another. The mirroring check box is in Displays Preferences under the Arrangement tab.

  • Display problems using mini-dvi to video adapter

I recently purchased the mini-dvi to video adapter for my powerbook to use my TV as a monitor and to play pictures and videos from the laptop to the TV. I am getting a full color display on the TV, but it's only the screen saver. None of my files, text, or any other desktop folders or menus appear when I open them up on the laptop. The only screen that opens is the display preferences when I open that up, but it's a different set of preferences than what's in my computer's display preferences, as it's header is "NTSC/PAL". But other than that 1 menu, nothing is appearing but the screen saver.

OK, I discovered that I didn't know what I was doing. With the Mini-DVI to video adapter, you need to use an S-Video cable that plugs into an S-video jack on the TV, and then you need a separate cable to plug into the audio out jack on the MacBook to plug into the TV.
I think you could also use an S-video to RCA component cable if you have a TV with component video input, but I couldn't get that to work so I went to the s-video to s-video cable.
