Trend Analyzer Regression Problem

Hi,
I am using the trial version of XCeslius 2008, and am seriously considering purchasing the full version. There is only 1 thing keeping me from doing so.
I can't seem to be able to figure out how to use the Trend Analyzer function to work with my data set or alternatively, how to work around the Trend Analyzer.
To give a brief background, I have a scatter plot set up with several data points. I would like to show a trendline on the chart, as well as the trendline equation and R-squared value. I would also like to use the trendline equation from the chart to project future values in an individual value selector below the chart. Can anyone please help me with this?
I have read a book entitled 'XCelsius 2008 Dashboard Best Practices' which states that "The Trend Analyzer component is strictly one dimensional. That is, if you have a set of X and Y values, the Trend Analyzer component can only look at the progression of X values or the progression of Y values, but not the two taken together." Does this mean that what I want to do is impossible in XCelsius? Are there any plans for future releases to address this issue?
Also, I have tried working around this by trying to use the 'LINEST' function as well as a combination of the 'SLOPE', 'INTERCEPT', and 'RSQ' functions, and when I try to see the preview, I receive an error message saying that XCelsius doesn't support these formulas. Any way to workaround this issue and get what I need? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Xcelsius its charting capabilities are very simplistic. The stuff you are trying to achieve is not possible wit the current plotting functionalities available. There are possibilities of course of building your own Flex component, but that is probably not what you are after. As for the unsupported functions: Xcelsius uses a limited set of Excel functions and converts those to its own format.
Seeing the use of Xcelsius in typically the finance / proces monitoring world I do not expect these functions to be available in any release soon.
If this is a hard requirement.. there are ways around it by just precalculating the values and storing them in the Excel file. After that just overlay a line plot on your scatter and have the line represent the curves you are after (note: set a proper interval, because Xcelsius line graphs have line representations that are straight and do not slope nicely.
If it doesn't work, you maybe want to give Tableau or TIBCO Spotfire or Swivel a glance. Qlikview can do it too, but is probably far too heavy (and expensive) for your needs.

Excel Analyzer template problems with Excel 2003

There are numerous common problems when using Excel Analyzer templates with the Analyzer Add-In for Excel 2003:
The following problems have been found in the latest version of the stand-alone BI Publisher version 10.1.3.3.2:
1) If your report name is more than 24 characters long, the Excel Analyzer template will never open in Excel. The error is completely uninformative, too. The reason is that the Analyzer template tries to make a tab in the Excel file called <report_name>.xdo. Since tab names can only be about 26 characters long, Excel chokes when opening the file. It would have been nice if BI Publisher printed an error when encountering this situation.
2) If your report produces too many rows, Excel will time out when opening the Analyzer template. Again, the error in this case is completely uninformative. In fact it appears no different from the error in (1). Excel 2003 is supposed to have a row limit of 65,000, but we can't get the Excel Analyzer template to open with more than about 15,000 rows. This is a completely unacceptable limitation if you're going to be making pivot tables in Excel. This is a processing time-out problem, which cannot be remedied by changing any settings in BI Publisher.
3) If you use the data in your Excel Analyzer template to make a wide report, like maybe one column for each day in the year, because maybe you want to plot the data over a full year, then forget about opening this report successfully. Since the number of days in a year is more than 256, Excel will choke when trying to open the template. No informative error here either.
4) If you're going to make a Pivot Chart in Excel, in the Analyzer template, then your reports cannot produce more than 256 rows. I'm not talking columns, I'm talking ROWS people! No more than 256 rows. This is because Pivot Charts require creating a sideways pivot table, which means your rows end up as columns. This is the only way to plot data with time on the x-axis, which is where it should almost always be.

BEx Analyzer version problem

Hi all,
We are having a problem with RRMX and the BEx Analyzer version that it's launching.
We are running BW 3.5, and all our workstations have both BEx Analyzer 3.5 and BEx Analyzer 7.0 installed. SAPGui version is 6.40 SP26, BEx Analyzer 3.5 has SP12 installed.
Naturally, we want RRMX to launch v3.5 but it keeps launching v7.0. Is there an easy way to configure RRMX to launch the legacy version?
Steps I have tried:
1) Transaction RSZVERSION. This only sets the minimun version of the BEx Analyzer, which does not help us.
2) Registry key LAUNCH_VERSION=LEGACY, under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SAP/BEx/Analyzer. This had no effect.
3) Modifying BExAddin.xml. This one I found out myself, but it's tricky to distribute. The xml-file has a tag called <LaunchLegacyVersion>, when this is set to False, the correct BEx Analyzer version (3.5) is launched from RRMX. As a default, this is set to true.
Now the tricky part is, that BExAddin.xml seems to be a user-specific file which resides under the current users IsolatedStorage folder (%SystemDrive%\Documents And Settings\%UserName%\Local Settings\Application Data\IsolatedStorage). Under the IsolatedStorage folder, there is a 3 folder deep directory structure, and these directories have names that are randomly generated for each user. This means that I can't possibly know what the BExAddin.xml's path is for every user. Making things worse, the whole IsolatedStorage folder doesn't exist, until a user has started RRMX once.
So the question is: is there a place that I could distribute the modified BExAddin.xml so that the settings would be made global for each user, or is there another way to do this?

Yes I tried the personalization but it seems doesn't work, I don't know why.
I set the personalization in the BEx analyzer according to the help documentation step by step but the variable selection screen still pop up when the workbook is opened.
If I executed the query which contained in the workbook seperately there is no variable selection screen pop up.
And because I don't wanna change the variable, so I didn't uncheck the ready to input.

BI publisher excel analyzer file problem

Hi Gurus,
I am trying to retrieve 20k+ records from the SQL database. It involves, per record, about 10 columns. However, when I press the "Analyzer for Excel" button, it somehow lead to an internal server error with the messsage as below.
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
And after I try to reduce the number of records and manage to save the file as excel format, it prompts a message "unable to read" when I try to open it. Any clue?
Any settings that I could change to retrieve the records?

The excel sheet will accept 56,535(not sure about correct digit) rows in one sheet.I also faced the same problem when i open an excel sheet it displays unable to read and showing a blank sheet.
I tried to change the query by placing rownum<50,000 like that. Try this it should work.

Analyzer calculations problem

Hi all..I use Analyzer 6.5 and I have create a report with an Essbase database connexion.I have a list of costumer with their account A and B. I want a report having Top 10 costumers, The Total Costumers and the other Costumers (difference between Total and Top10).To do that, in the report, I have generate the Top 10 costumer (with Analayzer Cube Designer options) regarding the Account A. The total A and B of the costumer is known (dynamic calc in the outline). So I have calculated a member "Other Costumer" = "Total Costumers" - "Top 10" in the Analyzer calculation Tool. My problem is that I want to have a ratio C = %(A/B), for each member of my report (Top 10 costumer, "Oher Costumer" and "Total Costumers"). The problem is that C member is correct for the top 10 and for the total costumer. But, for the "Other costumer", the result is C(Other costumer) = C (total costumer) - C(top 10) instead of C (Other costumer) = A (Other costumer)/ B (Other Costumer). Somdebody has a solution to avoid this error ? thanks ...

You can go to Analisys Tools Manager and place the "C" formula below "Other" formula. Analyzer will calculate "Other" first and than "C".Hope it helps

Analyzer Service Problem

We are having a problem with the Analyzer Service freezing up. This server has been running for several months with no problem. We have not had an increase in traffice, but now after an hour to an hour and a half, the Service locks up, has to be forced closed and restarted. We reinstalled the software, rebooted, etc. Server is Win2000, Essbase 6.5, Analyzer 5.0.3. Any suggestions?

We had a similar problem with the same version of Analyzer. We were on a different version of Essbase though. If you are using the standard repository Borland I think, it might help. Contact Hyperion support and have them give you there repository compression utility. They (hyperion) were never able to tell us exactly what the problem was but we run the little utility once a month and we haven't the problem since. The utility is quick, it only takes a few minutes to run. If you can't get it from them let me know and I can try to get it to [email protected]

Trend Line/Regression Capabilities

Does BIP have the ability to create trend/regression lines?
I have a scatter plot graph, and I want to create a trend line for the existing scatter plot data set (similar to how excel does it).
I don't see any options in the wizard, so I assume this requires coding.

Trend Analyzer Plotting Zeros (0)

Hi,
I have a simple combo chart plotting sales figures, I wanted to add a simple Trend line using Trend Anlyzer. I add another series to my chart to point it to the Trend results cells. When I preview, the Trend Results Cells are all populated with Zero's - Really weird since my avg sales are approx $200k per day.
Is this because my Sales data cells contain vlookup formulas ?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I bet your values are actually text instead of numbers. Make sure the values are set as numbers or populate a new set of cells with something like: =VALUE(A2)

the connection should be established over the internet.
external computer -> internet -> gateway -> sap application server
the gateway is configured to foreward the ports 3201,3301,3401 and 3601 to the sap server.
when i open excel by using the transaction rrmx then the connection is established correct and i can work without any problems. also sapgui works correct over the internet.
maybe someone can help me.

Did a search for your error on the internet-
or error WSAECONNREFUSED (10061)
   1The remote host actively refused the attempt to connect to it.
   2.Verify that the destination server name or IP address is correct
   3.Verify that the connection port number is correct (under Site Settings | Type tab).
   4.The remote server may be temporarily or permanently inaccessible (try again later).
   5.Verify that you have chosen the right protocol (SSH2, SSL, FTP, etc.) and have setup all required options for that protocol.
   6.Verify that the destination IP address and port numbers are correct.
   7.The remote server may be refusing multiple connections from the same client. Try using only one connection thread when connecting to this particular server (Site Settings | Options).
   8.Try pinging the address.
   9.If you are using a router, verify the router is up and running (check by pinging it and then ping an address outside of the router).
10.Do a traceroute to the destination to verify all routers along the connection path are operational.
11. Verify that your subnet mask is setup properly.
Looks like a winsock error - check if there is any service to declare on the hosts / services files
Are you using a router string in your GUI ? This may not be the issue - but possible issue could be that the SAP server is treating this as an RFC connection which is not coming through trusted channels.
What is your Frontend SP level - upgrade to the latest available and usually when you start BEx without any BI login also on the same client - there is a dummy window opened by BEx for the SAP GUI to achieve this...

Trend Analysis creating problems

I have a time hierarchy in place and I have made Day, Month and Year as Chronological Keys but when I am trying to use the trend analysis in KPI definition I am unable to see any results. I define Day as my Trend Analysis parameter in the KPI Definition but nothing shows up in the Trend Analysis Column. Also my Time Graph shows no result when I create the same.

Suppose user is entering fiscal year period as x in a variable. Then what I told is
1.Rt. Click on the Fiscal Year/Period Characteristic and select restrict
2. Select the Value Ranges option and select between.
3. Put the user entering variable x in the two text boxes
4. click on the dragging to rt arrow
5. rt click on the dragged variable range and select set offset for variable
6. then for the first popup put to -3 or 4 as required and then 0 for the next and press ok..
This will give result as (customer entered fiscl period - 4) to Customer entered fiscal period). And if you are giving fiscal year restriction in addition, it wont consider previous year.

I do not believe Analyzer 7 is compatible with Vista.
I tried installing Essbase on Vista and it was a miserable failure. I did, finally, get it to install and run but certain operations, particularly metadata queries (to fill picklists) performed very poorly (for example, 5 to 10 seconds to return a list of 5 members). I punted and had the laptop rebuilt with XP.

CSC Trend Micro making problems

Hi,
i am using a sms client and i often get a error where it says connection to the server is lost. But when i shutdown CSC or disable HTTP scanning the error does not appear anymore. What can i do?

You can disable HTTP scanning as a workaround, however the more accurate solution will depend upon the error message you are getting in the CSC module and the client model you are using. Usually the message "connection to server lost" is because of delay in HTTP response. Following link may help you

Problem with SNC logon to Analyzer

Hi friends
We configure SNC for BW system logon. It works fine for GUI. But when we use Analyzer the problem occurs:

Why this happen?
we have done the checking:
existence of Kerberos dll in /windows/system32
active directory settings for a SAPServiceSID user
advance setting in saplogon
It looks fine. Do we miss sth? Maybe there's some configuration for Analyzer? Thank you very much.

We were attempting standard publishing configuration but it would not work until SNC was installed. Once installed the publishing worked. But that's when the authentication issues started.
We can login to infoview with SAP credientials no problem. But with the SNC turned on in BOBJ, its as if that first login means nothing. If you attempt to execute a report it shows cached paramaters and is apparently not authenticating against our SAP backend system. When you turn the SNC off via the CMC in BOBJ, the reports execute correctly authenticating against SAP backend.
With SNC on, if you try to execute a report, nothing happens. As mentioned above, it's as if it's not communicating with the backend data source. With SNC off, all works well but we just can't do the publishing/bursting.

R/3 Transport and tp Problem

I downloaded the necessary support packages of SAP_APPL ( Lojistik ve
Mali isler ) and P3A ( P3VA:500 Add-on Installation) on AFS Test system
and updated them on their patch level. There was no problem with P3A,
but I installed the patch level on SAP_APPL component to 009. Then I
take the message "text" while installing 0010 patch and we
cannot request the release in test system. I had a search for some
documents about this on OSS but failed. Patch levels,after updating,
are like the folloving:

I also add our R3trans and TP version info.It is old, but we couldn't find the new version at SAP Service Marketplace for KErnel 6.40, how can we upgrade R3trans / TP ? (Do we have to upgrade Kernel patch? Our kernel level is (release 640, patch level 87).
