Trend Micro Internet Security Scan

I keep getting messages from the Trend Micro Internet Security that came installed on my Dell Studio. Every other boot or so it says there has not been a scan for "days"...and shows the last scan as 1/29/09. The message is that "Trend Micro needs your help to fix a problem..... So I open it up and do a "Fix". It goes through 30-60 minutes, and finds nothing, and never tells me what the problem was that needed fixing. Although I think it is supposed to be scanning automatically, I have executed scans everytime I get this message. However it never changes the last scan date of 1/29/09. The summary says my protection is "good", and everything is running fine. Any ideas. Thanks
Ken

Sounds like Trend is scanning fine. But if it is not updating the last scan is either 1) scan not fully completing. 2)Trend has corrupted files that are not so important that the program stops working
You said you have a Dell so you might have the discs to reload the program. You would have to uninstall the program and reinstall using the Trend Micro disc and not the OS discs. Unless 1 of those discs says application and drivers.

• Trend Micro Internet Security 2009

Does anyone know how I can fix the settings on Trend Micro Internet Security 2009, so that I am able to download songs again? The song partially downloads, and then it says processing file, and never finishes. What can I do to fix this?

First, do things work correctly if you completely disable IS2009 (as a test)? If you haven't tried that yet, give that a try first just confirm that it is indeed the Trend Micro software that's causing the problem.

• My Trend Micro Internet Security keeps removing my Firefox browser, saying it contains "HTTP_TROJAN_REQUEST-46".

I have reinstalled Firefox 3 times already but it keeps getting removed. Not sure what is going on, but I don't think it's a virus on my laptop as my Trend Micro and Malwarebytes scans both came up negative.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've been downloading Firefox directly from the Mozilla website.
Nevertheless, I'll try again once again and hopefully it works this time.
Edit: The download didn't work - the programme got removed again by Trend Micro.

I have upgraded to os x 10.10 and now anti-virus software is disabled. It is trend micro maximum security.
To keep my subscription does this mean that I to go back to os x 10.9.5 Mavericks?

I would remove the anti virus software. Does not help.

• Will this update interfer with my Trend Micro Titanium security?

I have Trend Micro Titanium Maximum installed to protect my computer. I don't want to update Firefox with something that will compromise that. Thanks, Mark

nope, you can upgrade Firefox without worrying, and it is recommend to keep your browser and plugin, java, reader up to date along with your security software :)

• Question about Trend Micro renewal...

My Trend Micro was just renewed this past weekend. It was all confirmed, etc. through Best Buy. When I go to my security status in Vista, it shows Firewall is on (green), Automatic Updating is on (green), but then is shows the Malware Protection in yellow, and this is what is says.
"Malware Protection" (yellow) Check settings
Virus protection
Trend Micro Internet Security is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the program's automatic updating feature, or contact the program manufacturer for an updated version.
I update every time I start the computer, and do a quick scan. Even with the automatic scans and updates. How do I remedy this? Thanks for any info!

Thank you for your response. I've already done just what you said, and was referred to the Geek Squad. He walked me through the long process of uninstalling and reinstalling the Trend Micro service. He was very polite and helpful. I'm still curious about what happened, when this "automatic renewal" was done. After reinstalling Trend Micro thru Geek Squad, it seemed to be a newer version of Trend Micro. The "automatic renewal" one was the same as before. This newest one had some different features, etc., and it was compatible with the malware security problem that I posted about. I am wondering why this newer version wasn't installed thru the automatic renewal?

• My Internet Security has gone. How do I get it back on this browser?

My Trend Micro Internet Security which keeps me safe from all bad places has disappeared leaving me feeling unprotected, which I don't like at all. How do I get it back on this updated firfox? If this can't be done I would like to revert back to the older version where I feel safer. Could you please then give me instructions on how to uninstall this version and install the later version.
Thank you

See TrendMicro for an updated version of their Firefox extensions.

• Network Icon red X - NlaSvc service failed - Trend Micro TROJ_Generic.ADV

Current situation...
The NlaSvc Service is failing to start. The symptoms on the desktop are a red "X" on the network icon. (The pop-up message is "Connection status: unknown The dependency service or group failed to start." However, the network connection is working OK, but Vista is apparently unable to recognize the network.
How it started...
Trend Micro detected a problem:
"To remove a trojan horse program we need to restart the computer.
Trojan name: TROJ Generic.ADV
Restart now | Restart Later"
On restarting immediately, the entire OS failed and restarted about 4 times. Once boot-up became stable, the network icon contained the red "x", and I eventually discovered the failed NlaSvc.
I have seen two other posts with the identical problem in http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3842672&SiteID=17.
Both Trend Micro and MBAM scans now say the system is clean from threats.
Any ideas how to find/repair the problem with NlaSvc?

How to Delete/Change a System File in Windows Vista (and fix nlasvc.dll)
Warning: Do not delete system files. Bad things will probably ensue.
If you need to delete or overwrite a system file in Windows Vista, you'll quickly notice that you cannot delete system files, even as administrator. This is because Windows Vista's system files are owned by the TrustedInstaller service by default, and Windows File Protection will keep them from being overwritten.
Thankfully, there's a way that you can get around this. You need to take ownership of the files, and then assign yourself rights to delete or modify the file. For this, we'll use the command line.
Open an administrator command prompt by typing cmd into the start menu search box, and hit the Ctrl+Shift+Enter key combination.
To take ownership of the file, you'll need to use the takeown command. Here's an example:
takeown /f C:\Windows\System32\nlasvc.dll
That will give you ownership of the file, but you still have no rights to delete it. Now you can run the cacls command to give yourself full control rights to the file:
cacls C:\Windows\System32\nlasvc.dll /G your username:F
At this point, you should be able to delete the file. If you still can't do so, you may need to reboot into Safe Mode and try it again. For the filename in the example, I was able to overwrite it without safe mode, but your mileage may vary.
Oncethe file has been replace you should set the permissions back but…
TrustedInstaller does not exist in the "visible" users and groups as it runs as an NT Service so to restore:
Right mouse button click on the file and choose Properties
Click Security tab
Click Advanced button
Click Owner tab
Click Edit button
Click Other User or Group and type in NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller
Press Ok on all dialogs until all property dialogs are closed

• "Website Blocked by Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security" but i do not have installed any of these. Can browse same page on Chrome wihout any error.

I have downloaded Firefox Portable Edition 17.0.1 from portableapps.com. And merged it with the TOR button add-on from http://torproject.org/torbutton. Entering http://easy-hide-ip.com/ on the address bar get an error saying "Address:http://easy-hide-ip.com/ is a Dangerous Page. So, Trend Micro has confirmed that this website can transmit malicious software or has been involved in online scams or fraud. Please close this page." But I haven't installed "Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security" on my system at all.
One more thing, I can browse http://easy-hide-ip.com on other browser version of Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, Internet Explorer without any errors.
I don't have any Security system installed like firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.

If you didn't install that software then you may have caught malware.
You should always have some AV software installed on Windows and at least regularly run scans.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

• Lenovo supplied OEM trial version of Trend PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

I just found out that the bundled OEM Trial License of Trend Micro's PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 that came bundled on my Lenovo 3000-K100 with Vista Home Premium doesn't have a working Anti-Spam component. From the Trend Knowledge Base Article 1036053 it says "Note: You can only use the Anti-Spam Tool Bar on Windows XP. It is not available in Windows 2000 or Windows Vista."
I've been struggling to get the Anti-Spam working in Vista and Outlook 2002 for the past 2 nights. Sheesh...nice going Lenovo in picking a non-Vista Compatible Security Partner.
I strongly recommend removing this program and getting ANY other Security Software that fully supports Vista (look for the Vista Logo). Symantec/Norton or Kaspersky are my best recommendations.

It was stupid of Lenovo to ship 2007 which preceded GA of Vista...
Apparently it is not free... The 90 day OEM Trial of IS 2007 will not convert to a 90 day OEM trial of IS 2008 - I've tried and even got these responses from 2 different Trend Technical Support People:
I have reviewed your case and I understand that you have an invalid serial number.
The free upgrade is for single license only. The serial number taht you have is for multi license. You can contact the distributor of the computer for more inquiry.
And the second response:
As per the first engineer who handled your case, the free upgrade is only valid for single user serial numbers. Multi user serial number such as yours is program specific which means it can only work for 2007 version. We are sorry to tell you that we can not provide a serial number for the 2008 version. We suggest to install PC-Cillin 2007, even though the program is older, we can assure you that it can also provided same protection as the 2008 version.
Trend Customer Support is non-existant IMHO.

• Prevent the Internet Security Suite from scanning after every reboot

My Verizon Internet Security Suite is evidently set to scan everything after every reboot of the computer. My computer is rather slow anyway. But that ties up all the resources for about 15 minutes whenever I reboot the computer. It keeps tabs on things in real time. It's not necessary to scan after every reboot. Can I turn that setting OFF?

Hi Hermhart, Yes there should be an option to set that to off. try this link to see if this helps & let us know thanks Brett.

• Trend Micro & Network Scanning

If you are having trouble scanning from your HP networked printer (wired or wireless) AND you use Trend Micro antivirus software, a Hot Fix has been posted.
Download and install the Hot Fix from:
http://esupport.trendmicro.com/solution/en-us/1058551.aspx
After you install this Hot Fix, restart both your computer and your printer.
Typically, this problem manifests itself by the scan failing to complete after completing 75-90% of the scan, locking up the printer and the computer.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
I am employed by HP

Trend Micro has a record of "false positives". Report the problem to them and let them investigate. Please post your results back in this thread for information for other users.

• Firefox blocks file downloads that other browsers allow and when scanned by trends micro anti-virus shows clean. how do I fix this?

firefox will block about 25% of files downloaded & I have yet to find a file type that WON'T be blocked & once blocked it is blocked every time.

Does it say:
Blocked: May contain a virus or spyware — example.com
That message most likely is generated by the Safe Browsing filter, which is a service based on site reputation data from Google. Something changed recently and this service is blocking many more sites.
Unlike the download block notice in Google Chrome, Firefox does not currently have a button to override the block. That is under consideration for a future version.
Currently, the only workaround for this is to temporarily turn off Safe Browsing, do the download, then turn it back on again. Or since you are using a Trend Micro product, you might already have protection against accessing untrustworthy websites in which case you could just turn it off. (Please check your product information.)
The setting is here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security panel
It's the checkbox for "Block reported attack sites"
I have attached a screen shot in case it's helpful.
