Trend Micro Smart Surfing

Is my version not compatible or is the product not compatible?  I just upgraded ato the latest version of Mountain LIon and I keep getting a message telling me about the compatbility of the Online Protection.
Is there anything out there that is free or compatible with the upgrade?

Installed Trend Micro Smart Surfing on new MacBook Pro and now it has caused error that won't let computer boot up.  How do I get it to a point that I can delete program?

Try booting up in Safe mode (holding down the Shift key while booting). If the software came with an unistaller, use it to remove alll traces of the software - it's nothing that you need and, as you've experienced, can do more actual hard than good (as is the case with most software of this type). When you're booted in Safe Mode, if you can't run an uninstaller, at least check to make sure that there are no Trend Micro items that are set for automatic log in, at least.

  • Mac OSX Maverics (Ver 10.9.4) Reboots after installing and removing Trend Micro Smart Surfing

    Hi,
I have recently installed Trend Micro Smart surfing with serial number starting with TCEF. I am currently running my mac book pro on OSX Maverics Version 10.9.4. As soon as I installed the software, I got the error message that the software is not compatible with this version of OS. I went to applications and selected Trend Micro Smart surfing and moved it to trash and also emptied the trash. After this my laptop is rebooting frequently. I even went to safe mode and then into
system preferences ---> users and groups---> Login items and found nothing related to Trend Micro smart surfing. I have also tried to reinstall max osx and still having reboot issue. I have a lot of data and I am afraid I will loose this. Can anyone please help me out.
Thank you in Advance for all the help.

Uninstall the Trend Micro product by following the instructions on whichever of the pages linked below is applicable:
Removing Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security
    Uninstalling Trend Micro Smart Surfing
Restart. If the program was incompletely removed, reinstall it and start over. Back up all data before making any changes.

  • Trend-Micro Smart Surfing for Mac

I know that malware is not a big concern for Mac users, yet. However, I am interested in trying new products as they come out. I use Trend-Micro products for Windows at work on a daily basis and they are a fantastic company when it comes to malware protection. They just came out with their first product for Mac: Trend-Micro Smart Surfing for Mac. I was thinking of using the 15-day trial just for the heck of it. Does anyone have any experience with this software?

This topic has been brought up countless times on the forums. Search for the word "virus" and you'll get quite a few hits.
    Here's one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9244196&#9244196
Limnos' post is probably the one to look at.
Many of the long-time users here agree that the most effective anti-spyware/malware/adware/what have you protection is for the user to pay attention to what he/she is doing.
-Create a standard user account and use that for daily tasks. Use the admin account to perform updates.
-Don't download files from sites you don't know. Don't install anything unless you know what it is.
We did use the Virex anti-virus system years ago for one of our Macs. It was running OS 7 (ancient history, really). None of our current Macs, all of which are running OS X Tiger or Leopard, have any anti-virus software installed, and we haven't had any problems.
If you do choose to install anti-virus, the only real reason to do so is to prevent the spread of any Windows viruses that make their way onto your machine.

Not true.  Trend has free phone support as well as online support at:

  • Finder keeps interfering with my Trend Micro Smart Surfing update...

My Micro Trend Smart Surfing has an update. It gets to 99% and Finder comes back to the front and Trend stops/disappears and becomes inactive before the update can complete. When I put my pointer over the Trend symbol I get a spinning beach ball. What steps do I need to take for the update to complete and Finder to behave? Thank you in advance.

I uninstalled so need help needed anymore with this question. Thank you anyway.

  • Trend micro smart keeps requesting changes...why?

I have Trend Micro Smart Surfing on my Macbook Pro, and its been active since I bought it with the laptop in Fall 2011. Recently, it started asking me to type in my password to allow changes. It will occur randomly without a set time or specific website. For example...
I was just wondering is this normal/common? It may be a coincidence becasue I recenlty renewed my subscription, but I know I have been having troubles with Finder, so I don't know if these are related or if there is a different reason. (My Finder issues can be found here for more information https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5456640)
I really don't want to take a trip to the Apple store, so any information is grealty appreciated.
    Thank you :3

  • How can I uninstall Trend Micro Safe Surfing once the app has been deleted from my Mac OS X?

How can I uninstall Trend Micro Safe Surfing once the app has been deleted from my Mac OS X?

Check to see if there's such a folder as  either
    /Library/Application Support/Trend Micro
    ~/Library/Application Support/Trend Micro
and if so, see if either contains an uninstaller.
Failing that, download the demo version of the app from Trend Micro, and try the uninstaller that it should contain.
If all else fails, the manual way would be to use something like EasyFind and search for anything with "com.trendmicro" in the filename (you can use Finder, but be sure to include system files and invisible files in the search options). Pay particular attention to the folders
    /Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    ~/Library/Preferences

  • Is Trend Mirco Smart Surf a good purchase for Macs?

I had this program back when I used a PC, so I was going to cancel it but they offered this other software.  I've never heard of macs needing stuff like virus protection so I was wondering if it was a useful purchase or not.  Any advice is welcomed.

No virus protection is needed for your mac if you have the latest updates installed in your OS.
MAC OS has built in protection....
You can however, download ClamX AV and scan your computer once in a while if you want to be sure and give you peace of mind....
    good luck...

  • Delete trial trend micro

I can't seem to delete a trial of "Trend micro Smart surfing for Mac' from my computer, the only spot I see it is on the top line of my computer where the Wi-Fi signal is. I looked into my files and I can't find it anywhere.
I want to install my free Norton software from Comcast and it won't do it because of the trend micro is still on my computer. I've gone into my microtrends website and tried all three of their suggestions. But because I can't find microtrends any files anywhere on my computer I don't know what to do. All I know is it is blocking me from installing Norton antivirus software help I am a novice.
any help would be helpful as I have no protection on my computer.
    thank you
    m

Both Trend Micro Smart Surfing for Mac and the free Norton software from Comcast are completely useless products that will convey no benefit and are only likely to cause problems. If you don't want problems with your Mac install neither one. Ill-conceived "anti-virus" products are the overwhelming cause of Mac-related problems reported on this site.
any help would be helpful as I have no protection on my computer.
This is a popular misconception. OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Do I need trend smart surfing for mac for the macbook pro

do I need trent smart surfing for mac for my macbook pro?

That's totally up to you. If you have the need to restrict the web sites that can be visited, then a product such as Trend may be worth the cost. If you are only worried about malware from your own surfing, then I consider the price for Trend excessive and unnecessary. The freeware ClamXav and a bit of common sense - about what you download and from where, not falling for scams and fakes that ask you to provide personal information, and in keeping your operating system up to date -  should be sufficient.
    Regards.

  • I installed Firefox 4 and it's telling me that the Trend Micro NCS extension is not compatible.

    1. What is the NCS extension? I have no idea. Is it necessary?
    2. Does this compromise my computer in an IMPORTANT way when surfing the internet? If so, then how do I go back to the previous version.
    3. Please don't tell me to go to Trend Micro's site. I did, and they have no information whatsoever.
    Thank you.

    Please help!

  • I have Trend Micro antivirus for Windows 7, but I am being told it is not compatible with Mozilla 9.1, how do I get an older version or adapt?

I am using a lap top, just reinstalled everything, and now have Firefox 9.1 and am being told it is not compatible with my antivirus, Trend Micro Titanium. I am running Windows 7.

  • How do i uninstall this latest version? I have trend micro anti virus and it said you are incompatible at this time. you did not give me a choice of opting out so I am opting out of using firefox since my protection is now gone.

Several days ago firefox wanted to upgrade and I refused because trend micro was not supported. Today it automatically made the change. I have trend micro and your message said it would not work. I would think that an antivirus program would be one of the most important features to be able to work. Either fix it or tell me how to roll back to the other version. If you cannot I am dumping firefox and going back to internet explorer. So for now I am closing this window and using IE untill I hear from you

I've had almost every issue you've had.  Finally on Friday the screen blacked out.  It was obviously still charged, since I could hear the message ring, but when I tried to light up the display it didn't light so I was unable to get to it unless I removed the battery.  Then, as soon as the display timed out, I couldn't get it lit up again without removing battery.  I had the same slow movements throughout the display as well as slow text messaging.  Every issue you had other than the alarm clock (that always worked well).
I took it in yesterday and, after over an hour spent there with a 'professional', I still had no answers.  He told me to come home and copy everything from my sd card to my computer, then re-format my card.  Well, my phone didn't even recognize that I had an sd card installed!!  Nor did my computer!
So then I got to experimenting...I removed the card and viola!!!!!!  The phone worked GREAT!  It's never worked so fast!  I then installed my husbands sd card to see if it was my phone's card reader or my card.  Turns out that the phone still worked great with his card installed and it did recognize his card in my phone.  So, my conclusion is that I need a new card.  I couldn't believe the difference in speed of everything!  It's like a brand new phone!
As for the hard reset...I did that over the weekend, before I could get to a verizon store.  It didn't work at all.
I'd say, do the same thing I did and see if that works.  Can't hurt!!!  Please keep me posted.  I'd like to see what you find out
    Good Luck!!!!

  • When we installed Firefox 4.0, found it is not compatible with Trend Micro. How can I go back to the older version of Firefox until Trend builds a compatible version??

On add-ons manager, I see that Trend Micro NSC Firefox Extention 6.5.0.1234 is not compatible with Firefox 4.0.1. I have contacted Trend and been told that their builders have not yet created a product that is compatible. I think this means that I should revert to an older version of Firefox until my internet security is updated. How do I do this? I'm clueless. :) Or, is there a better solution?
