Treo 650 Bluetooth iSync

Hi, I can iSync my Treo 650 to my Powerbook using a USB cable, but haven't been able to get this to work over Bluetooth. I have followed the instructions on the following page: http://www.palm.com/us/macintosh/wireless.html. I notice that my Bluetooth-PDA-Sync port is perpetually in use though. Any ideas?

Take a look at these instructions from Palm about interconnecting a Bluetooth wireless Palm device - in this example, a Zire 72:
Once you've paired your device, this somewhat outdated page provides instructions for configuring iSync for use with a Palm device:
Although the instructions apply to Mac OS X 10.3.9 and iSync 1.5, you can use them as a general guideline to connect your Treo under Mac OS X 10.4 and iSync 2 or later.

  • Treo 650, Bluetooth, Internet access, and 10.4.6

I have a Treo 650 on Cingular's network and would like to use it to connect to the internet using the Treo as a modem via bluetooth. I called Cingular and obtained the following information:
    User name: [email protected],
    password: CINGULAR1,
    connection string:7**#.
    (BTW this information is public.)
I haven't spent a whole lot of time attempting to connect to the internet however I was able to pair the device with my computer and enter in the information that Cingular supplied. Of course they don't support this so I was unable to get a modem script which a few other providers seem to supply via their websites.
I was curious if anyone else has a similar set up and has been able to connect successfully with reasonable speeds and up time. If so can you please provide the information that was used for the set up?
    Thanks a bunch!
Oh also I am aware of the latest update version 10.4.6 of Mac OS and was wondering if this update adds better support for the Treo 650?
G3, G4, G5, iMac G5, Xserve G5, XRaid, PowerBook, iBook, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Have used every Mac OS since version 8 to date.

I do this with a Treo 650 and the MBP on T-Mobile and it works fine.
I don't know about password so I can't comment. On T-Mobile you don't really need it.
For connection string I'm sure it must be wrong. Every GSM phone in the world uses something like 99*1# (or similar with 1 substitute with something else). That is what I use.
The other issue is the modem script. I've had mixed success until I used the shareware program called GPRS script generator ( http://www.macronsoft.com/pages/en/gsg.html ). It's costs to get it generate a script, but I use the one it made for T-Mobile and it's worked flawlessly with several devices including the Treo 650.

  • Treo 650 Bluetooth syncing

I just got a new treo 650 (Telus) and I have been able to sync it to my Powerbook G4. but only by cable. I want to do it with the bluetooth.
    1) when pairing with the BT Setup Wizard I get: "There were no supported services found on your device"
    - I think this is a problem.
    2) When I click on the "bluetooth-pda-syn" in the Hotsync manager, (conection settings) I have to set some modem script settings.
Please if anyone has any clue about this... let me know...
    Thanks a lot!
    Rob

Typically, the required Bluetooth profiles—including SYNC—are present and enabled on a Treo 650. This document, a User Guide for Telus-provided Treo 650 smartphones, explains Bluetooth pairing beginning on page 61:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/handbooks/treo/treo650telusUGEN.pdf
The only synchronization information, however, refers to USB synchronization, and—by implication—seems to indicate that Telus does not allow Bluetooth synchronization to any platform, either Windows or Mac OS X.

  • MacBook does not recognize Treo 650 Bluetooth DUN!

    Hey gang-
We got our new MacBook today. For some reason, it does not recognize the Bluetooth Dialup Networking (DUN) capability of my Palm Treo 650. I have no problem creating the trusted pair, and the MacBook and Treo discover each other no problem. But when I finish setting up the trusted pair, the Bluetooth Setup Assistant reports "There were no supported services found on your device"
Now here's why I'm worried- In the exact same setup, my 1-year old iBook G4 recognizes and offers the choice of Bluetooth Dialup Networking from my Treo! Something is definitely different in Bluetooth support in the MacBook.
Any got a MacBook to recognize Treo 650 DUN?
    Thanks!
    Dave

I am having the same problem with both a brand-new Macbook and intel iMac. After going through setup identically to several other Macs around, I only get "There were no supported services found on your device." Bluetooth syncing works fine, but neither of the Intel machines will find the DUN. Powerbook G4 12in and iBook G4 12in both work fine with identical setup procedures. There is definitely something buggy here.

  • Setup problem:  Can't setup Treo 650 (Cingular) with iSync on Macbook

    Hi,
Trying to use my Treo 650 with iSync on my MacBook. It worked fine with an iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.8.
I paired my Treo with the MacBook. That seemed to go OK, but the Bluetooth Setup Assistant showed a message saying "There were no supported services found on your device" at the end of the pairing process.
When I launched iSync, I went to Devices --> Enable Palm OS Syncing and let the conflicting Palm conduits disabled. No problem there.
But when I then choose Devices --> Add Device, a window appears as the MacBook searches and finds my phone. It then displays the message "1 device found", with the name of my device next to a phone icon. Beneath that, another message says "iSync cannot connect to this device".
Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? My Treo is set to discoverable. I can't figure it out.
    Thanks in advance!

The Add Device… response is normal. You cannot add a Palm device using that menu option - it is added as a consequence of selecting the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option beneath it in the list.
If you have successfully paired your Treo using Bluetooth and triggered the installation and configuration of it after selecting the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option and it still does not appear as a device in the main window of iSync, you should launch the HotSync Manager to insure that the iSync Palm Conduit appears—it's listed as the iSync Conduit—and that it has been activated: the checkbox in the conduit configuration panel should be checked.
This may also be a basic Bluetooth issue, as the your Treo contains several supported Bluetooth profiles, and is a supported device. You might want to break the link, and pair it once again, initiating that action from your smartphone and confirming it from your MacBook.

  • ICal and iSync with Treo 650 and bluetoothing

    Hello,
I have a Palm Treo 650 with Sprint provider and I am trying to sync it with my iCal and Address Book on my MacBook Pro. I have synced the Treo with the laptop using the Cradle Cable once. When I did this, all the events from the Treo transfered straight over the Mac Pro but were deleted off the phone.
    1) How do I sync the two to have identical events, etc.?
I have heard that my iCal can also be synced using bluetooth. I've been reading on here trying to figure it out but nothing has been able to help me yet.
    2) How do I sync using the bluetooth capabilities?
I just signed up for a .Mac trial account to see if I had to be a member for the iCal to sync thru bluetooth but I haven't been able to figure it out. I have the Palm OS conduit installed. But I just need help answering these 2 questions if possible.
    Much appreciated!
"locmi01" I have read a few of your posts but nothing that I found could answer my questions.

I cannot explain why the events transfered from your Treo through the Sync Services framework where thereafter deleted if you were using iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit. That should not have happened.
In order understand synchronization under Mac OS X 10.4 and later, you should read this document:
    http://developer.apple.com/macosx/syncservices.html
To restore the data to your Treo, you should first make sure it is present in both iCal and the Address Book, back up both datasets using the option to do so under the File menu of each application, then…
    • launch iSync
    • open the Preferences… dialog
    • press the Reset Sync History… button and follow the directions which appear
You should opt to replace the information on your Treo when presented with the option to either merge or replace records.
With regard to Bluetooth synchronization, you must first get USB synchronization working properly. Only then should you pair your device initiating the process from your Treo and confirming it from your MacBook, then electing to initiate a HotSync Bluetooth sync session from your device.
Keep in mind that USB is a faster and wider path, and will result in faster, if not necessarily as convenient, synchronization.

  • ISync, Palm Treo 650, and my sanity

Just bought a Palm Treo 650 this evening and I'm having the hardest time.
Been trying to iSync via USB with mixed luck. I installed the software that came with the phone, made sure my HotSync settings were correct, and hit the Hotsync button on the USB cable.
Nothing happened for several tries. Was as if the cable was broken as the Palm just couldn't contact the computer and would eventually time out.
Then when I used the AC adapter along with the USB I got a different result. The Palm and Mac were now talking. But it did give me errors regarding the conduits being in conflict. So I changed the settings on some of the conduits and I finally got a successful sync.
Well semi-successful. Some of the stuff didn't seem to be syncing. Like some of my iCal entries. So I found an article showing how to drag some of the conduits to the Disabled folder. Which I did. And now ever since I cannot seem to get the the Palm and Mac to talk again. I get the "Connecting with the desktop using Cradle/Cable" for a while and then the "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Would really appreciate some help/advice.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are apparently several issues in play here. So long as you are willing to live the the limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit and synchronize via only one path—either USB or Bluetooth, but not selectively moving back and forth between the two—you can configure iSync to synchronize contact data with the Address Book and calendaring and task data with iCal.
With the exception of non-conflicting conduits like Memos, you will be unable to synchronize at all with the Palm Desktop. [Palm conduits which conflict with iSync are those used by various models to synchronize contacts—Address Conduit and Contact Conduit—those used to synchronize calendars—Calendars Conduit and Datebook Conduit—and those used to synchronize tasks—Tasks Conduit and ToDo Conduit.]
Unless you thoroughly understand how this technology works, it's not a great idea to 'experiment' by moving conduits manually. A properly configured Conduits folder for iSync users should contain at least…
    • Apple [the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
    • Backup
    • Install
    • Memos Conduit [only if you want to continue to synchronize memos to the Palm Desktop]
    • any non-conflicting third-party or additional conduits you want to use
Other conduits should reside in the Disabled Conduits folder.
You add a Palm device, either via USB or Bluetooth, using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu of iSync. You set the synchronization parameters for your device in the drop-down configuration pane exposed when you press the Tungsten icon in the main window of iSync.
You did the right thing by installing the Palm Desktop software using the bundled CD-ROM that shipped with your Treo 650. But, you should have upgraded that application by applying the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 revision D, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
If you elect to upgrade your copy, just run that installer. Do not attempt to remove any existing components of the Palm Desktop. And keep in mind that though you may not choose to use it at all, its HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor components are critical to the operation of iSync.

  • RE: Help! Bluetooth Hotsync Failure w/ Treo 650, Leopard, & Bootcamp

I need to Hotsync my Treo 650 under both Mac OS X v.5 (Leopard) and Win XP on the same machine running under Boot Camp. Before Leopard, I was able to do this via Bluetooth (cable on Treo 650 does not work right at all) without issue.
Under Leopard, when I try to Hotsync, I get the error, "Unable to initiate Hotsync operation because port is in use by another application". If I Delete the device from the Bluetooth list and setup the device from scratch, it works perfectly and continues to do so while in Leopard.
But when I go to Win XP under Bootcamp and try to sync, I get the same error message all over again. To fix it, I delete and recreate the device setup in Bluetooth and it syncs just fine while in XP. But when I return to Mac OS X, I am back to the same error message and must delete and recreate the device again.
Does anyone know how I can set up the Treo 650 so that I don't have to delete and recreate the Bluetooth setup everytime I need to sync?

Thanks Michael, your answers in all the other threads I've read appear to be to the point and helpful.

  • Macbook pro won't sync with Treo 650 via bluetooth.

I can only do one sync with Windows XP before the comm ports fail and I have to reboot the computer to be able to do a sync with my Treo 650 via bluetooth. It works well but only once then the ports all shut down of something. Any suggestions would be apprectiated.

Your signature says you have 10.3.x but presumably this can't be correct - could you please make sure it's correct to prevent confusion. 10.7.2 is required for iCloud - your Mac won't be able to sync with pre-Lion systems.
The fact that you have iCloud accounts showing does suggest you have Lion: are they showing in System Preferences>iCloud, or where? You can only enter one there.
Are the two different or the same? You could try deleting both and then starting the setup again from scratch.

  • Treo 650 (Sprint) vs. iSync 10.4.6 and/or 10.4.7

Since the 10.4.6 update, I have been unable to get my iCal data across to my Treo 650. All my HOT SYNC CONDUIT and iSYNC PREFS are set correctly, but I am only getting ADDRESS info, not iCal info.
    HOT SYNC LOG SHOWS:
New ADDRESS BOOK entry appears on Treo 650 in good condition.
New iCal entry does NOT appear on Treo 650.
The way I'm reading this HOTSYNC log, it appears to me (uneducated in this sort of thing) that the error message is concerning the DATEBOOK, which is what would be the iCal data that isn't being transfered.
Please advise (and thanks to all for your input and help!).

    Willconn

I apologize for the confusion in the other thread concerning this issue. As Aur pointed out, DatebookDB refers to the calendaring not contact records type. That's what I get for trying to deal with technical issues when I am half-asleep.
The DatebookDB referred to in your HotSync log is not the Palm Datebook Conduit - rather, it is the Palm OS DatebookDB application on your Treo itself. I have only ever seen this issue crop up under one of two scenarios, neither of which appear to apply to you:
    • it is a Verizon handset and Wireless Sync is not configured properly
    • you do not have sufficient free memory on your smartphone or handheld organizer
You addressed both of these issues in the other thread, so I don't know what you can do except contact Palm support to address the issue. I don't believe that iSync is the problem. I believe that the issue involves your smartphone itself. Good luck with that international translation thing if you decide to call Palm…
An alternative is to perform a hard reset of your device, which will erase all contact and calendaring data, choose the option to Reset Sync History in iSync after backing up your existing contact and calendaring data in the Address Book and iCal, then initiating a synchronization in which you should be given the option to overwrite the contents of your handheld. If you are not, then stop the process, remove your device from iSync, add it back again, and try once more to synchronize. What you want to perform is a first-time synchronization event after resetting the Treo, in which you are asked if you want to merge or replace your data. You want, of course, to replace the data on your Treo, which is empty because of the hard reset.

  • ICal, iSync, Alarms, causing my palm Treo 650 not to update

    Hi All,
Looked around a bit and didn't see a solution to this issue and was hoping to find some information of confirm that it is a bug and I am not going crazy.
A couple days ago I noticed that the events I entered on my Treo 650 were not getting synced to iCal through iSync. Upon looking closer, I noticed that the reverse was true as well: Events I added to iCal were not getting synced to the treo.
The iSync logs said that everything was syncing successfully despite the problem. I double checked my settings on the treo and in iSync to make sure the calendars were scheduled to sync. All 6 of my calendars were checked to sync. Since this was all working a couple days prior, I assume the settings were correct.
After resetting my treo and restoring a back-up in an attempt to get my calendar to work properly, I noticed that the calendars listed in iSync disappeared even though they still existed and seemed to work in iCal. iSync keep trying to tell me to open iCal to add a new calendar because there were none.
After more fiddling I was only able to get iSync to properly list my current calendars by deleting a specific calendar. When I removed it entirely in iCal(I backed it up so I could test things out), iSync would update in a matter of seconds but if I put it back, no matter what I did, iSync would not update.
Finally, I started removing specific events in the calendar. It seems when I removed all the events that contained "alarms" (which I had started playing with a couple days prior). The calendars would work again. So I suspect iCal alarms as a culprit.
I can make due without the alarms for now, but would like to start using them again. I was starting to schedule applescripts to perform specific activities scheduled through iCal.
Has anybody else run into this problem and/or found a workaround that allows you to use iCal with your palm/treo and schedule applescript alarms? Any advice would be great. Or, if you are having the same problem I am, check to see if you have alarms in iCal.

Verizon Wireless does not now offer—and has not historically offered—the Palm Treo 680. The Treo 680 is a GSM device, and not compatible with the Verizon network. Verizon currently offers the Palm 700p and the 700wx, and has previously offered various Palm and Windows Mobile devices beginning with the Palm Treo 600.
The anomalies you see are likely the result of issues with iSync and the iSync Palm conduit, and not with the device itself. With an advanced Palm device such as any Treo beyond the 600, you should instead opt to use either…
    • the Missing Sync for Palm OS, or
    • the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile
…selecting whichever one supports the operating system of your particular Treo. In your case with a Treo 680, that's the Missing Sync for Palm OS.

  • Treo 650 won't connect to isync

I've read literally every thread on every site on the internet, and cannot figure out what the problem is. My Treo 650 will hotsync just fine to palm desktop, but when I Enable Palm OS Syncing in isync, and go into Hotsync Manager's conduit settings to enable isync, I get nothing. I try to hotsync and it just stalls...like it can't connect to the computer at all. I've got isync 2.3 and the newest Palm software (rev D) installed on my ibook g4 running 10.4.8. The craziest part is, I NEVER had a problem with my treo/ibook syncing until I had to send the ibook in to Apple to repair the hard drive. I got my computer back wiped (expected and backed up), and reinstalled user folder. I also have the same exact results (sync to palm desktop fine, but not with isync) on my mom's imac g5. any help would be greatly appreciated.

sorry. What I mean is...I enable palm syncing in isync, disable the proper conduits, go into Hotsync, and "enable isync for this palm device" and after all of that, my treo will not make a connection with the computer. But, it syncs fine to the palm desktop software if isync isn't enabled, making me think I have an isync problem. The log on the treo says everything was fine, because its referring to the time i backed everything up to the palm desktop software. The error message i get when i try to sync the phone says
"the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. please check your setup and try again."
and the log on the computer says nothing, because as far as it knows, I've never had a hotsync operation completed, since the phone doesn't ever connect. (the successful hotsync to palm desktop software was on my mom's computer...I was just troubleshooting seeing if it was my computers problem).

    Hi,
I've been trying to use Address book to dial numbers with my Treo 650 via bluetooth. Thus far, I have not succeeded. Does anyone know if this is even posssible with the 650? My phone connects to my PowerBook G4 without problems. However, when I hit the bluetooth button in Address Book, my phone comes alive and looks like it's making a connection, but nothing ever comes of it. When I try to hit the "Dial with cell phone" function in AB after the attempted pairing, it's grayed-out and in accessible. Anyone have any advice on how to fix the problem?
