Treo Pro (Sprint) & Windows Mobile 6.5 Upgrade

I haven't been able to find any recent posts regarding the possibility of being able to upgrade the Palm Treo Pro from WM 6.1 to 6.5. It's not showing up in the device list on Microsoft's website (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/devices/devices.mspx). Can anyone at Palm confirm whether it's coming or not?

The general wisdom is that Microsoft is not planning to offer WinMo 6.5 as an upgrade, only on new devices. However, there might be some exceptions; we don't really know yet. As for whether Palm/Microsoft will make 6.5 available for the Treo Pro, that has been asked here in the past and I don't think there is any official position on that question. (You know, "no comment on unreleased products" etc.)
Because Windows is in ROM, I don't think you can run a beta version of it on your Treo. Perhaps there is an emulator?

Hello everyone. I apologize for reusing this very old post but I got my hands on an old Palm Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6 working properly but I could by no way get it synchronized via usb with my Windows 7 laptop. I tried the suggested solution but still I get the Device not recognized from the windows installer- Colud you please somehow help me? Many thanks

Microsoft has identified some users who are having driver related issues when trying to sync this is generally resolved by reinstalling windows mobile device center again.
It is important that you install WMDC before connecting your device to your PC. However if you have already connected your device and received the Driver failed to install error message, you can resolve the issue by removing the devices generic RNDIS driver entry from Device Manager.
Disconnect your device for your PC
From the start Menu open the control panel
Select “Hardware and Sound” then “Device Manager”
Now connect your device to you PC so that the associated driver shows up under “Network adapter”
Right click on the driver and select Uninstall
At this point disconnect your device, install WMDC if you haven’t already done so and the reconnect your device. WMDC should recognize the device and complete the driver install.

Space button on Treo Pro (sprint) takes me back to Home

Hello,
I just had an odd thing happen yesterday. When I looked at my phone, some settings were changed - my digital clock display for time got set to analog. I switched it back thinking it wasn't a big deal. Anyway later when I try to text, every time I hit space after s set of letters it will exit Messaging and take me back Home. I can press space multiple times, but if it comes after I start typing any letters, after the 3rd letter, it will exit. I also tried the transcriber and other input methods and it does the same. So somehow the Space key in messaging has been changed. I tried a battery pull and it didn't resolve the settings.
Is there any way to resolve this by not having to Hard Reset?

Hi.. Welcome to the Palm forums. Unfortunately the only option here is to do the hard reset. Be sure to sync first as this will totally remove all data from your device. If you need instructions go to this link.

i Have Mac Book Pro with Leopard... And i have a windows mobile 6 device that i want to sync. What program is there that lets me transfer music to my pda with usb wire...I know that i can just bluetooth it but it just takes to long..

Setting up Contacts "groups" or "distribution lists" on Treo Pro??

Is there any way to set up a "group" or "distribution list" on Treo Pro w/ Windows Mobile so that I can send a text message to a group rather than have to put in each phone number individually???

Windows Mobile devices doe not have this function at least out straight foward of the box, will require the use of a 3rd-party SMS application. PalmOS smartphones have an upping here with its templates folder but in your case you could try making SMS drafts and use those as a "group template."

Hello kristikay and welcome to the Palm fourms.
I don't want to rule anything out, but in a recent investor conference call, Palm's CEO stated that the Treo Pro was the company's last Windows Mobile device and that future development efforts would be focused on the Palm webOS platform.
So that isn't exactly a "No", at this point in time, I personally feel that an Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for the Treo Pro is unlikely.

Sprint Palm Treo Pro...SMS from 2016

I guess this is the right area for this.
My Treo Pro's incoming SMS messages are dated for 2016 (1/1/16) and as such appear as the date instead of the time (a SMS at 12:00 on 1/1 opened on 1/1 should appear as 12:00, but instead appear as 1/1).
Is this a bug with the phone, Windows Mobile, or Sprint's services?
P.S. I can only pair the phone to a computer using '0000' on Bluetooth.

Opps, almost forgot, yes, 4 zeros is the Bluetooth password for most of the headsets that I've ever used.

Thanks for the article. I'll wait for the fix to come out then.
I know that in terms of headsets. I have a Broadcom with a WIDCOMM chipset and I can only pair the Treo Pro, to a computer, with four zeros. Anything else and the phone instantly says pairing failed. The Treo Pro is the only PocketPC, PDA, or etc. that I can link with a computer using Bluetooth...So I can't see if my WIDCOMM is the culprit.
It's just something optional I wanted to post without having to create more threads....It just was on my mind at the time.

Windows Update on Treo Pro is Unsuccessful

Ongoing issues on Treo Pro with Windows Update application. Error Message always received is "Connection to the update server is not available. Check your data connection settings and ensure the device date and time are correct." Under the View Details section the Result code is 80072ee7. Data connection is active and functioning for internet connectivity and Microsoft Exchange active Synch. Date/time is being set by network. As such error and inability to connect is unexplained by error message. Review of Windows Mobile website did not indicate any updates available.

Are you trying to update the Windows Mobile OS on your PRO?

Treo Pro will not sync with Vista SP1

I'm really hoping somebody can help me here. I just replaced my aging 700p with the long-awaited Treo Pro (Sprint). I've actually been looking forward to getting fully Windows-based, since my 700p syncing was routinely problematic - always having to do workarounds and plug in the cord just the right way, etc...
Let me try to give you the flow so far.
I have Vista SP1
I get Treo Pro
I plug Treo Pro into Vista, SP!, all ready to sync up my Outlook 2007 data.
Treo Pro fires up a very impressive looking installation routine.
Routine seemingly works fine - getting me to the point where you unplug and reconnect your device to do your first sync
I reconnect, and hear the Windows "USB connect" sound, then.... nothing.
I open WMDC and it says "not connected"
I open "USB to PC" on the Treo, and uncheck the "advanced networking" box as suggested by some other posts.
Windows sees the difference and installs a couple of other drivers.
Windows connects, gives me the "USB connect" sound, and WMDC says "not connected"
The Treo appears to attempt a sync, but finishes with a message "To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer. "
HUH? ActiveSync only works with XP - of course I can't install that!
By the way, I tried the same thing with my Vista SP1 laptop. Same exact results.
Also, at no time have I seen the WMDC icon in the tray area. (I remember having a Nino way back when, and the ActiveSync icon was down there)
I thought this was supposed to be easy - Windows PC, Windows device. Piece of cake, right? Not so. If I cannot get this thing to connect, I'm getting a Centro! (not my first choice....)
A thought... any chance this could have to do with having Palm Hotsync still installed (from my Treo 700p)?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

On Windows XP, having HotSync installed didn't interference with using ActiveSync with a Treo 800w. This is not exactly the same as your setup, but close enough that I think HotSync is not likely to be the problem.
How did you install WMDC? The downloadable User Guide (PDF pp44-46) refers to running the PC Setup program. Did that part go as expected?
I don't use Vista, so I'm not familiar with the additional complications that might be involved...

Pop battery cover off, screen fails on Treo Pro.

Second time this has happened, I apply barely enough to remove the cover and the screen fails. Any reason why the Treo Pro would do this? A soft reset clears it but still weird nonetheless.
When I mean fail, the entire display is blank but the keyboard responds. Also still getting the infamous lag on bootloader problem. Is this normal?
P.S. The lower left corner of my LCD, about six pixels usually, turns white and has to be reset occasionally by showing a white screen for a while.

I have a blank, white, empty screen and support could not tell me what's going on or what should I do. I think I got a wothless product. Throw it in the garbage and get an Iphone or a chinese phone.

Windows Mobile 6 not syncing with Exchange Server / Error Code: 0x80072F06

Just got my Dopod 838 pro with Windows Mobile 6 installed. Having this problem when trying to sync with corp. Exchange server:
The ActiveSync circle on the phone turns yellow/brown, clicking the Error message it says:
The Security Certificate on the server is invalid, please contact Exchange Server Admin or ISP, to install valid certificate on the server.
Support / Error Code: 0x80072F06
That's the problem. My phone doesn't have a Data Link connection problem as I am able to go online with it, also the company's Exchange Server is good, a few days ago I used my Windows Mobile 5 to sync with it without a problem. (but then I lost the phone)

I have a windows 6 mobile devices (all) that are having an issue connecting to my exchange server. I am pretty useful with certs but this one is baffling me. I have a windows 2003 sbs server. I recently created a san cer on the server and since then my Windows devices cannot synch. I belive I have setup correctly, or not?? Ther error and the steps are below...
ERROR ON DEVICE:
The security certificate on the server is not valid.Contact your exchange server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server:
support code: 0x80072f06
STEPS I USED TO CREATE SAN:
1. Created certificate using article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931351/en-us
I added the following as SN: MAIL.EXTERNAL.COM (my external dns record for mail server)
And added the following for SAN: SERVER01 (my mail server name )
SERVER01.INTERNAL.LOCAL (my mail server fqdn)
2. Exported Root CA cert and imported to my phone
3. configured active synch to connect to mail.external.com on 443
I believe these are the correct steps. I would liked to have been able to export the SAN cert from IIS with private key and install on phone but the webserver template doesnt allow you to export private keys. I also cannot create a dubplicate webserver template to allow the export of the private key as you need enterprise edition of windows 2003 to do this.
So I am at the end of line I tried exporting the cert without the privtate key and importing it but still keep getting samer error.
Why of Why does it not like my cert?
I have just noticed now when I browse to the same address for OWA externally I am getting the error on my browser too even though I have the cert installed on my laptop

Treo 800w (Sprint) Won't Get Past Windows Mobile Screen

I've tried everything I can think of, soft reset just gets me to the Windows Mobile screen, won't get past that. Battery has a full charge, at least according to the status light. Kind of dead in the water. Any ideas? Appreciate any help that's offered, thanks.

Hmmmm stuck on the load screen eh, stuck on the green screen? If the soft reset, taking the battery out for a few sec and back in, does not work then the hard reset is the next option. Unfortunately Windows Mobile does not have a safe mode like the ones found on PalmOS devices. Unfortunately the hard reset will erase all data but that would not be an issue if you have been syncing the phone or using Sprite Backup provided on the ROM.

Intermittent Calendar Sync, Outlook 2007, Exchange 2003, Windows Mobile 6, Palm Treo Pro.

We are having a problem with a couple of our devices, one being a Palm Treo Pro.
The users have noticed that some of the calendar appointments they receive are not always updating in either their outlook, or on their device, it is apparently random as to whether it updates to the device and not outlook or vice versa.
That is as much detail as I currently have; I am asking them to supply more observations as I know this doesn't give us alot to go on but thought I would ask in case someone else has experienced similar issues.
The other thing I noticed is that the windows update tool fails to work with the following message: "Connection to the update server not available. Check data connection setting and ensure device date and time are correct."
The date and time are correct (live in the UK) and they can access the internet and emails on the device to connection settings must be working.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Unable to get Data Connection on Treo Pro after Flying (Sprint)

I got my Treo Pro a few weeks ago and have really had no issues. It has been a great phone, but I just ran into an issue I cannot explain.
I had to fly from Mpls to Miami and put my phone in "airplane mode" when the flight started. When I landed I took the phone out of "airplane mode" and was able to get voicemail and make calls. However, when I tried to get email or open a browser session the phone kept giving me an error. It was trying to dial #777 to begin a data session (I think) and said it was unable to make a connection. I removed the battery and forced the phone to reboot and everything work just fine.
Someone I traveled with suggested I give it some time to "sync" up with the network, so on the return trip I just let phone continue to try and establish a session for about an hour. After an hour with no email I got frustrated and rebooted the phone... again everything worked just fine. Am I going to need to reboot this phone every time I travel? Is there something I am missing here?
Is anyone else seeing this? Is it a Sprint Issue? Please help. Thanks in advance.

That's strange and I've never heard of this issue. I usually don't jump to this method of troubleshooting right away but I do not have any other idea to resolve this issue. Try to do a hard reset on the device. A hard reset will erase all data on the device and restore settings back to default. Be sure to back up all data on a computer to Outlook via Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC). For further information and instructions on hard resets please visit kb.palm.com and look up article number 43146 in the solution id search field.
