Treo800w: Wifi + Speaker = Suck (with wifi hint that should go in the sticky)
Hi all! Posting my first problem on these boards I've been through two Treo 800w's (I actually LOST one almost as soon as I got it, argh). Both 800w's had this speaker problem, although I didn't put all the pieces together until last week (I had been operating under the theory that the original Treo was suffering from intermittant speaker failure, possibly due to a cold solder joint- took some time to see that both units had the same problem, and only when wifi was on.)
When wifi is on (connected, unconnected, doesn't matter- but it's worse if wifi usage is heavy)- the speaker output sucks rocks. Speakerphone? Can't understand the speaker. Ring tones/notifications/etc? Crackly, awful. Ask it to play music or video? It really sounds like the speaker is being physically damaged now, the distortion is so crackingly severe.
Turn the wifi off? The external speaker is sweet as pie. [Edit: That's overstatement. The external speaker still sucks compared to the one on my old free VX8300, but it's MUCH better than it is with the wifi turned on.] Connect the USB earphones that come with the 800w? Sounds beautiful, no distortion whatsoever, and it doesn't matter if wifi is on or off in this case.
In summation: the wifi card being on totally screws up the external speaker, and even if you have the volume set to minimum where you can't hear it, it sounds like that poor speaker is dying if it's asked to play any sounds. Does anyone have a fix? (I bet it's a hardware problem and there IS no fix )
Edit: I just played with this a little. I turned the WiFi off and put a movie on the Media Player. It sounds OK-ish. With USB headphones, it sounds fantastic. Turn wifi on, and USB headphones sound fantastic (unchanged). Remove the headphones and go to the external speaker, the sound is extremely loud cracks and pops that are much louder than the sound generated by the movie. (MUCH louder...to the point that you can't hear the dialogue and worry that the speaker is being damaged.)
Edit edit: Interestingly, if you turn the phone off or on while sound is being played, you hear similar audio artifacts. They only persist while the phone is going on or off- and do not linger after the transition, unlike the wifi hardware, which generates louder artifacts the whole time it's powered on.
Also, one hint that's not in the stickied FAQ (for users in urban areas, mostly): If you can't get your wifi to connect and everything is set right on both ends: The antenna in your treo sucks. That's the price you pay for it being invisibly small. It's a good tradeoff. Change the channel on your wifi access point to be as far away as possible from any other access point within reception range (If you have to pick, get as far away as you can from the loudest one). What I mean here is that you should get a laptop or a PC with wifi hardware, put it where you want your Treo to work, and find out what channel your wifi WAP is on, and what channel the WAP with the most signal strength is on. Set the channel of your wifi WAP to be as far away from the competition as possible. Channel 1 and channel 11 are common factory presets for 802.11b and 802.11g WAP's. I spent about three hours today trying to get my Treo to connnect to an AP it had been working fine with the day before... and as soon as I changed the channel to get away from an AP that was so soft the Treo didn't even list it (though my PC listed it at -45 dbm), it started working great. (To clarify, my wifi broke because someone put up a WAP that was far enough away that my Treo didn't even see it, on the same channel as my WAP.... and no amount of fiddling could fix it. However, changing my WAP's channel fixed it immediately.)

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the 800w. The issue with Wi-Fi causing issues with the speaker has been reported and has been escal to the proper department to attempt to address it.

have Mozilla Firefox as my browser vs Internet explorer. This morning when I tried to open Mozilla after several attempts it said it had crashed with a window that I could check the box to send the report to Mozilla but it wont even let me send the report I can get on the internet with explorer but dont want to go back to that so would I just delete mozzila and start all over or will that not clear up the problem? Im lost help

I can see my thumbnails for my events in iphoto, but when I click to open the folder, no photos show up. However, when I hover over the thumbnail, it shows the flicker of images
that should be inside the folder, as well as # of images in each folder. It also occasionally says the following when I try to even open iphoto: "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." So, I am scared to hit "upgrade" for fear I will never recover any of the images as the wording in this quote seems odd. The photos are not in the trash. Did I lose them all? Do you know if/how I can retrieve them?iPhoto 08?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption. -
I dropped my iPhone 3G last day and soon after that the display turned too dim and it still remains the same.
Could anyone help me with a solution?

Since the iPhone warranty does not cover accidental damage, you will have to pay to have your phone repaired or replaced. You can bring it into Apple for an out of warranty exchange in the country of purchase, or you can find a 3rd party iPhone repair store in your area. -
I cant find an app that should be on that should be on the app store, and when I click on the website (sky poker) and I click on "downland thee app on the app store" only a white page appear on app store.
Well, I went to a Sky Poker website and find it it seems to be something related to playing poker online and the currency is measured in pounds. I do not see anywhere on the website where it tells me that I can download an iPhone app, and when I search the App Store (US) I do not see a listing their either. You may need to send their support a question/email and ask if they have something in the app store and what the name of it is.

MMy iPhone 5s and also my iPhone 6 plus and iPad 3, all have the latest update(8.0.2) but all of me have problem with wifi and gilt hung all the time! Wifi most of the time is not working and we have to use laptop or using phone data, obviously I don't want to use my data in home so , I want this problem solve as soon as possible. My iPad is glitching all the time, my iPhone's most the time.
aand please don't tell me it's my wifi modem because I know it's not, I have been tested my modem with all other devices!Ok. Have you tried restarting your phone? Hold sleep wake button until slide to power off appears - slide to power off. Turn it back on and retest.

I have a problem with a vi that crash and stops the signal generation.
I want to control several pumps and valve at the same time. Three of them are comanded by a board installed in other computer, so that I have to comunicate with them by a TCP/IP comunication. The others one are controled by signals sent by a PCI-6024 E board which is installed in my computer. The problem is that I want to create a vi that controls every equipment at the same time. I did a Vi that is in attach, but the problem is that when I run the vi it works during a certain time, but after 10 minutes (more or less) it stops to send the signals to the pumps. We are in the process of evaluating the Cisco ISE VMWare appliance with a view to replace our existing FreeRADIUS installation as authentication provider for our wireless network and VPN service. As a part of this we are hoping to migrate our user authentication to Microsoft Active Directory - we have previously authenticated against a different identity store (not MS AD). Because of this legacy our Windows domain is not the same as our RADIUS realm name - the Windows domain is "win.mydomain" whereas we wish to allow users to authenticate using "username@mydomain" or even "[email protected]" as they are doing today. We are experiencing an issue where authentication requests with the format "[email protected]" will be forwarded to the Windows AD whereas authentication requests with the format "username@mydomain" will fail with the log message "User not found in Active Directory". We do not know if the ISE itself is validating the username and triggering this error, or if the error originates from AD. We suspect the that the ISE is not even asking AD because "win.mydomain" is the domain configured in "Active Directory" in "External Identity Sources".
Authentication requests against the AD without a realm are successful (that is, using only "username"). With this in mind we located a post on the Cisco support forums that described a process of proxying the request back to the ISE and strip the realm information, but this was specific for the ACS platform. We have attempted to implement this solution but it is still not working as we would have hoped, and we are not entirely certain where the fault might lie. We are currently using PEAP with MSCHAPv2 for authentication in our WLAN where the main problem is. We suspect that the "proxy-to-self" with realm stripping is an issue with PEAP.
Is there a supported method of achieving our goal, or should we abandon the ISE platform as our scenario is simply not supported?Seems like your issue maybe related to DNS, when ISE receives the format [email protected], the dns request is failing. However, there is a setting for alternate UPN Suffixes that can be configured to include domain.com and student.domain.com.
Here is a windows article that should fix this for you. Once you get this updated please reboot ISE so it rejoins AD. Try your tests again.

I know that it is possible to download iBooks to a device that uses a different Store account by connecting the device to the machine machine running iTunes with the purchasing account, but is it possible to do so with a device that syncs to iTunes on a different machine (using a different account)?It will only be where you put it.

Things that should be in the next update... please don't wait for 2.0
I've been using adobe products a long time and I have to say that I am a little disappointed there has not been more thought put into things that should just work in a v1 product.
Here is the list:
Ingest window should be able to be able to take up the full screen. At a minimum, it should remember the last size. My paths get somewhat long and this is very frustrating to continually have to resize the window or panes every time I ingest.
Ingest should put the files in the bin selected when I hit ingest. It always puts them at the root. To make matters worse, keyboard shortcuts that are used to select files in almost any program like SHIFT+HOME do not work. I have to click, scroll to the bottom and shift click the last file to select a range. Then drag all the clips to the target bin. Borrow the code from Premiere
Keyboard shortcuts for clip navigation. Logging clips with keyboard shortcuts is a godsend and this is one thing that I love about Prelude. Anyone who has to do a lot of logging will tell you these keyboard shortcuts are imperative to a smooth workflow. This is especially true if you have to log hundreds of clips like I do. Next clip, previous clip when editing from the navigation tree or in a roughcut would be extremely helpful. If I am in a roughcut, I can easily get into a clip, but not back out to the roughcut where I was. The only way I have found is to click on the roughcut name in the timeline window.
Re-linking moved media - FAIL. Since this product is supposed to let different people log media, it seems crazy that the program can not re-link it. Very few people in this world store there files in the same absolute path.
Lack of updates. Makes me wonder if Adobe is committed to this product. Having a really long time between iterations is hard on your users. At this point I have no clue if any of these features will ever be added.
I have spent a lot of time in this program and it is on the verge of being great. I personally think that before you start adding new features, you should fix some of the things that make it hard to use.Thank you for your post and your passion for Prelude. Input from customers like you is how we can improve out product.
I do have a few comments and questions for you about your experience. Also, many of the items you have listed are already part of Prelude.
Replies to your list:
1. The Ingest Dialog can be sized to fill your entire screen. Simply drag-drop the edges to resize. This size is also remembered on subsequent launches. This has been in the product for quite some time – what version of Prelude are you running? Currently we have made the following releases: Prelude 1.0, 1.01, 1.02 and 1.03. Our v2.0 has been announced and revealed at NAB last week and is coming out soon with many more enhancements and improvements. Rest assured that Adobe is committed to this product – as you will see with this new release.
2. Ingesting into the selected BIN is part of our upcoming release that was revealed at NAB. I'm currently on a Mac so cannot test the SHIFT+HOME shortcut, but Prelude does support CTRL/SHIFT selection options to make selection easier. I'll look into the HOME and END options as well. If they are missing we certainly want them added.
3. Glad you find the keyboard driven workflow beneficial. We had a lot of customer feedback early in our 1.0 days that this was a must. Adding support for clip selection in the Project Panel to open and log clips is something in our backlog we would also like to deliver because as you say it is very useful and saves time. We are also reviewing our Clip/Roughcut UI and workflow. Don't have anything to report yet other than this is an area we are focusing on.
4. Relinking is possible in Prelude 1.03. We've added additional relinking support in our 2.0 that provides relinking in rough cuts as well. If you are not yet on 1.03 please use the free update and let us know how it works for you.
5. As mentioned above, we have 3 updates posted last year for our 1.0. And 2.0 is coming out soon.
Please continue to share with us your thoughts and ideas for improving Prelude. We have an aggressive feature TODO list but are always looking for more direct input to help us properly prioritize what's part of our next delivery.

New Data Connection with incoming XSLT. Should DataView show the structure?
When I Create New Data Connection with an XML file and an incoming XSLT transformation, the Data View doesn't show the resulting structure..just the original XML file structure. This makes it hard to bind xml elements in the transformation to a PDF form. It the XSLT only applied at "runtime"? If so, how to map elements? Thanks.
I would suggest to create a receive data connection(secondary) to get data from your checklist
Use this data connection to connect to your checklist and get all the fields that are required.
Create a button in your form and add rules to assign and submit data to the list, after user clicks the button
Add a rule to set values to source list with fields from Receive Data connection
Submit the data to the list
Close the form

Yes! This is fantastic, I'll try this. Quick question, would it be possible to send the data to a different list rather than the source?
My reasoning is this: The secondary data connection list is intended to be sort of a blank slate, where the actual project requirements are listed and can be modified or edited as needed. I'd like to keep that as the constant starting point.
So could I possibly have the form submit the actual data to a separate list to maintain that? -

When a business rule must be handled before INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE of an record, it looks to me like it cannot be implemented using a CAPI.
For example the following BR:
'When value of column is NULL use default value retrieved from other column.'
Do I have to defer from CAPI implementation and use TAPI to implemented this BR in PRE-TRIGGER? Or is there a better way that fits more in the CAPI structure??

From the CDM Standards & Guidelines Library, volume 2, chapter 7:
"However some change event rules should be implemented using the derivation expression mechanism given in Oracle Designer. This mechanism should be used when a value within the inserted or updated record must be derived or calculated as before the data is written to the database. [...] If more complex derivations are required, you will probably choose to create a derivation function as part of the Custom API, and then call this function in the derivation expression. Note that you must then set the
derivation expression type to Function Call."
For default values you may be able to use the Default Value property of a column (can also be a CAPI function call). However, it will only be applied if that column was not included in the insert call to the TAPI. Otherwise, you will have to use the Derivation Expression, and in the CAPI function you will then have to make sure that it is not executed during update, for example:
