Trex 6.0 to Trex 7.0

HI,
I'm upgrading Trex6.0 to Trex 7.0 (NW 2004s). Before installing SAPInst asks me to uninstall old TREX instances.
I'm not able to find any "uninstall" option in SAPInst or in TREX directory .
Can anyone help in uninstalling old instances of Trex.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks and Regards
Puneet

• Upgrade from TREX 6.1 to TREX 7.0

Recently upgraded our Portal Environment from EP 6.0 SPS19 to EP 7.0 SPS14. Our TREX version was 6.1 Rev 32. Installed TREX 7.0 Revision 38.
The upgrade Guide for TREX 6.1 to TREX 7.0 refers to running python script exportHost61_70.py to export the indexes from the TREX 6.1 system. I shutdown the TREX 6.1 system and started the 7.0 TREX system. Executed python script importHost_61_70.py to import the indexes to the 7.0 environment. The scripts ran successfully with no errors. Restarted both the TREX 7.0 and the EP 7.0 system.
When I logged on to the Portal and accessed the Indexing Monitor(System Admin --> Monitoring --> Knowledge Management), the Status of indexes are red. The indexed column displays values for the various indexes. If I display the queue for the index, the queue Status is Invalid. I launched the TREX 7.0 admin tool. The indexes do show up however, the indexes do not show up in the Queue:Admin from the TREX admin tool. The /usr/sap/<SID>/TRX<instance#>/queue directory is empty.
Has anyone encountered this problem using the export/import script from TREX 6.1 to TREX 7.0? We have single host installation.

Hello Noemi,
Please verify that user <sid>adm in the new TREX 7.0 server, is assigned to administrators group of windows local groups, then try again. In addition verify if you can open the file independently of python tool, this is with the windows zip tool.
I'm having an error with import script too. I just sent a message to SAP Support so I wait for what they can tell me. This is the error detail if you can help me.
Thanks and regards.

• TREX httpserver red in TREX admin console after install v7.0

I have installed TREX version 7.0 and the httpserver is red in the Services tab of the admin console. When I try to restart it it states "Access Denied, you must be an administrator of the remote computer to use this command."
I am positive that the tsxadm id that I am using is an administrator, since I have checked. Is it trying to use a different id that I am unaware of?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is on a windows 2003 server SP1 with IIS 6.0.

Apparently it was a DCOM error that seems to be fixed after implementing MS KB Article 913119 since I can now restart the server. However it is still in red and has the following error in the trace file:

• Where are TREX index stored? TREX server File system? or KM repository?

hi, friends:
can someone tell me where are TREX index stored ?
in TREX server file system?
or in portal KM repository? file system or DB?
thank you
Carol

Carol,
TREX is a separate product. During installation and configuration of TREX you connect it to the portal. The search iViews of the portal will use the configured TREX server to do the actual search:

for the above error i need to configure the trex name server using TREX Configuration in the J2EE Engine in j2ee visual administrator .
can any one tell me the clear path that where to configure the above and where j2ee visual administrator installed how to configure the name server

regards

Hi Ganesh,
In order to access the Visual Administrator, go to Start > Programs > SAP J2EE Engine > Visual Administrator. After you login, you will see 2 nodes i.e. Dispatcher and Server. Expand the Server node. Then go to "Services" and expand it. Then go all the way down to "TREX Service". Then on the right hand side, go to the property "nameserver.address" where you will key in "tcpip://<nameserver>:<port>". Then hit "Update" and click on the "Save" button. Then when you go to TRex Monitor, you should be able to see the Name Server running. Hope this helps.

• One TREX server for multiple Portals?

I have the same requirement as that contained in this thread:
TRex for Multiple Portals
I wonder if anyone can technically elaborate a bit what the procedure for this configuration.
I would have to install a TREX and create a TREX instance for each Portal that I want to give TREX service?
Each instance points to a different host?
My requirement is to use the same TREX to both DEV and QA Portal hosts.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. !!

• TREX Migration from HP-UX to Windows

Hi Experts,
I want to migrate TREX 7.0 on HP-UX to TREX on Windows. Is there a way to transfer existing indexes from the HP-UX system to the new TREX system running on Windows?
Thank you,

Hi Joseph,
thank you for your recommendation. Importing the indexes of the HP-UX TREX on the Windows TREX was exactly what I did. The Search function in TREXAdmin on the Windows system returned an error when trying to view the index content, throwing an error message. The TrexIndexServerAlert trace file contains entries like:

Sounds as if the TREX index file format on HP-UX cannot be interpreted on Windows, and probably vice versa. This would mean that exporting/importing indexes with the TREX Python scripts can be used to transfer indexes between TREX systems of the same version running on the same OS platform only.

• Km athorization using Trex

Hello everyone,
I am using a anonymous user to access a especific role in my portal.
Some of the iviews are km content iviews. They are html archives with navigation to other iviews.
To manage to navigate from one iview to other one I use something like this:
onclick="MM_nbGroup('down','navbar1','fase1_r2_c5','/irj/go/km/docs/blc/Resources/fase1_r2_c5_f3.png',1);
EPCM.doNavigate('ROLES://portal_content/com.evertec.blc/com.sap.roles/com.sap.BLC/com.sap.level/Stage_1/Gather/com.sap.Identify_Alternatives')"
Everything is working fine until I try to search with TREX in the km folder where all my html documents are.
Trex is searching fine, but after I open one of the html documents I will have the chance to navigate, but if I click in one of the link I get the log on screen.
If someone can think in a solution to this problem, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,

Hi JohnP,
searching without Trex is technically possible, but KM is required for such a scenario. You can "simply" develop an IndexService (Search) for KM's Indexmanagement layer connecting any search engine and plug it into the framework. Leave the TREX IndexService empty (not TREX configuration) and you will be able to search upon your IndexService resp. to your search engine.

• How to use TREX in Netweaver Portals

Hi,
I am new to TREX and i installed TREX 7.0 with Netweaver 2004's java edition and performed Post Configuration for Java client HTTP settings.
Now i am unable how to use TREX in Portals for searching the documents in KM.
Can any one help me how to use the TREX for searching the documents in Km if possible plz attach the screen shots.
ADV Thanks
Regds
Phani

Hi Phani,
You can test your TREX server by executing the following step:
Log on to your TREX server and open up the TREX console which you can find in the TREX program folder. Normally you are now inside the python_support folder.
Execute the following script by typing: "python runInstallationText.py" and hit Enter.
The script carries out the following tests:
● Deleting any test indexes that were generated for a previous script run
● Creating a test index
● Indexing documents
● Testing search functions
● Exact, error-tolerant (fuzzy), and linguistic searches
● Search using Boolean operators such as AND and OR
The results are displayed at the end of the script run. You see the tested calls and their statuses (OK or Failed).
When you run the script for the first time, the call “Delete Index” has the status Failed. This is because there was no existing text index to be deleted. If this is the only cell with the status Failed, the test was successful.
Below you will see the final output generated by the test script. As stated near the bottom of this screenshot our TREX is running very well or not if there is a problem.
Best regards,
Tom.

• Trex version under NW 7.01 SP 5 for win 32 bit computer

Hi,
Our EP system is SAP NW 7.01 SP3. I am going to upgrade it to SP5. When selecting the components in SP5 stack its asking to select the components for Trex. Under Trex NW 7.01 there are only two option:
1. Linux on x86_64 64bit
2. Windows Server on x64 64bit
Our system is running on win 32 bit, but there is no option for win 32 bit under Trex components.
Any suggestion whether I shld select Win 64 components.
Our current level of Trex is SAP NW 7.01 SP3.

OK.
But be sure there exists only TREX versions like
TREX 7.0
and
TREX 7.10
and there doesn't exits SP for TREX there exists Revisions....
But anyway TREX 7.10 is a 64bit software that's why the operation system must as well be 64bit.
TREX 7.0 is a 32 bit software so that's why your operation system could be 32 bit.
You should install in windows 32 bit TREX 7.0.
Or upgrade your Windows to 64 bit and install TREX 7.10

• Benefits of Using TREX for PLM Search

Hi All,
Can somebody guide me on the benefits if we use TREX 7.1 with Embedded Search for PLM?
Following are our requirements, whether this will be met with TREX
1) Will the TREX help to search Cross u2013Objects with same names, for ex, if we search CCA, will it show all materials, BOM,s; Documents and Change Masters starting with CCA?
2) .Can we u201CSaveu201D the Search attributes or variants so that the same type of Search can be used again?
3).Can we give Boolean search or fuzzy search with AND and OR options?
4) .Can we search the fields mentioned in Long Text using TREX?
Regards,
Aby

Hi Santosh,
Thanks for your inputs..
While searching for all Objects, can we give the input of Description?
for example, if I want to find all objects which have a term "XYZ" in the description, can I find it?
Can I search on the Long text details if TREX is there?
If you have any detailed links or documents related to PLM Search with TREX , its benefits and features , please forward..
Also we are using PLM 7.0 Are all these features mentioned for TREX 7.1 is available over PLM 7.0?

We have a portal with two dispatcher servers one CI and the other one being the dialog instance.
In the TREX monitor under system administration->monitoring->Knowledge management->TREX monitor, everything looks green. But in the another dialog too I maintained the same entries and strangely, thhe TREX monitor shows as TREX name server not configured.
Here is my issue:
in the Indexing monitor under system administration->monitoring->Knowledge management->indexing monitor, for all the indexes status is showing green.
But when I check the application log, I get the following error

We do not have any backup server. What entry do we have to maintain there?
For the dialog instance, the name server was maintained only now. For additional dispatcher server is there any special procedure to follow apart from the configuring TREXservice in visual administrator.

• TREX 7.1 Embedded Search for PLM

Hi there,
Currently we have TREX Server 7.00 Build 49
However, I am bit of confused with the following notes "Note 1249465 - TREX 7.1: Installing TREX for Embedded Search", where they are talking about TREX 7.10...Is that mean we cannot use the Currently installed TREX 7.00 Build 49 for Embedded search PLM? or Do we need to do a fresh install of TREX 7.10 Embedded search separately on a server for PLM Search?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Frank,
I have a quick question regards to High Availability for TREX 7.1. I have read the most part of the documentation for "SAP NetWeaver Standalone Engine Search and Classification TREX 7.10 on multiple hosts"

1 Master
1 Backup
2 Slaves
For an example:
Server 1 host: SAPTREX1
Server 2 host: SAPTREX2
Do all of them needs to be installed on a separate OWN hosts? or can I install Master and First Slave on the SAPTREX1 and then Backup and Second Slave on the SAPTREX2. Is this is something possible?
Please let me know what do you think about this.
