TREX 7.0 - moving index / queue folders to new installation

Hi,
I have a TREX 7.0 instance, I want to move it and also change the SID. Can I just install a new TREX instance and then copy the queue and index folders to the new instance? Or do I need to copy the whole TREX directory? Can I still do this if the SID is changing?

Moving alphabet month folders into new year folders, error cause not known

I have my folders listed aphabetically eg JAN 14 in my catalog and am now trying to add new year folders and drag the relevent folders into the year folder, I keep getting an unknown error has occurred and the folder cannot be moved . This is on my laptop using an external hd but my catalog is on the 'c' drive. I have already completed this on my main desktop machine whith an external hd, any help would be appreciated.

I'll clarify my statement above regarding my iMovie Events folders: I tried to open them with iMovie, won't do it. I've not used iMovie much at all to be honest. I can't think of where these files called "iMovie events came from to be honest. Maybe somewhere in the distant past I tried to use iMovie to organize video content, but I can't recall one way or the other.
I reconnize the video content, mind you, but how it got labeled "iMovie" I'm not sure. That is everything I recognize from when I was using FCE. Never been a big fan of iMovie: slow, clunky, limited. Good for when I first started.
Here's my delimma: can't open it in iMovie or FCPX. I can import it in either, but as described above, it started make either duplications (in iMovie) or quadruple in FCPX. Not sure why the import feature is causing such an effect on the video.
I am puzzled as to why it would be labeled iMovie events and not open in iMovie.
Now to set out really learning media management in FCP X
Any other advice or ideas on how to import a single file as a single file (not duplicates/quads) or to get iMovie to recognize and open the files within iMovie so I CAN share it over to FCP X?

Keeping the folder you are moving to the far left will do the trick.

Bookmarks save only in 'recently bookmarked' folder & can not be moved to other folders

I can no longer save bookmarks to a designated folder - they go only to 'recently bookmarked' folder and can not to moved to other folders- when attempting to move them to another folder, they appear in the designated folder list but when I return to the main browser page, they are not listed. They are still in the 'recently bookmarked folder' only. I have attempted to save bookmarks many times since, with no success.

Those bookmarks should be located in one of the root folders.
If you click the star in the location bar then the page will be bookmarked in the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder and the star turns yellow (blue on Mac) to show that.<br />
If you use "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" then the bookmark will go to the "Bookmarks Menu" folder (you need to confirm that).
"Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders|Smart Bookmarks folders]] and are not real existing folders.
* Such smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores the bookmarks and the history in Firefox.
* Bookmarks or history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.

Moving files and folders in the Library module

I teach a lot of LR users and one area that's consistantly frustrating and unintuitive (even to some experienced users) are the rules for moving files and folders around in the Library module. I'm not sure I have all the right answers/suggestions/remedies but here are the basic points worth examining:
1) Additional hard drives aren't listed unless images from it have been imported into Lightroom. It would be nice if people could add a new hard drive without importing files from it. People don't get it that you can select "Add Folder" from the Folders pop up menu. Classic example: Say someone has purchased a new hard drive for archiving purposes. It's empty and they want to drag folders of images onto it from within LR. Possible Solution: include a "Add Drive..." option from the Folder's panel + pop-up menu that would behave the same and add a root level folder.
2) One can't drag more than one folder at a time. While I assume this is designed to prevent accidental mass movement it would be nice if one could enable the movement of multiple folders.
3) One can't drag a folder onto the main drive bar that lists the drive's name and capacities - one has to drag onto a folder within a drive. I'd love to be able to drag a folder onto the root level of a drive by dropping onto the drive bar (this would be similar to the MacOS finder).
4) Sometimes the root level of a drive isn't apparent. One may need to right click on a folder and select "Show Parent Folder" to show the root level folder which is named after the volume. Showing a root "folder" that has the same name as the drive is also confusing to people since there isn't actually a folder on the hard drive with that name. I completely understand why folders are hidden by default and I'm not sure the remedy is but, again, this isn't intuitive for new users. If #3 worked as described perhaps we could have root level access without the root folder?

Perhaps I should add that I really like and appreciate a lot of the decisions that have already been implemented into the Library's Folder's tab. Moving files instead of copying them, showing only folders that contain imported images, the ability to show or hide parent folders.... Bravo!

all 3 blogs are very helpful since there is little information available out there on these topics...
so we've been testing the delta indexing program very heavily - ESH_IX_PROCESS_CHANGE_POINTERS
we have found that it does not appear to be able to index new hires (new central_person index does not pick up the new CP). The only way this data can be indexed is by running a full re-index. That is problematic for us, b/c we were hoping to only do full re-indexing 1 a week or even 1 a month. our indexes take 2-3 hrs to complete and trex searching is pretty much inoperable during that time.
Have you tested new hires with delta indexing? it seems as a gap in the change_pointers program. We opened up OSS message to SAP.
some additional thoughts working with the program, relative to your blog. I would highly recommend that anyone testing this makes sure the following notes are implemented in your system. The first one is the most recent and we ourselves did not have that implemented.

Another area which we found from testing: SAP by default does not delta index structural authority view. What this means is that if a new talent specialist is added with 741 relationship there access to see that structure will not be available in TREX search by default delta indexing. This would also impact existing organizations and positions shifted under existing 741 relationships.
The information in spro is actually quite helpful, you can find it in: talent management and talent development > basic settings > search > BAdI: Activate Delta Indexing for Authorization Data
Activtate the BADI, than the program to "create the change pointers" must run periodically in your system. This is done with RPTMC_CREATE_CHANGEPOINT_AUTH. Once that program creates the change pointers the next time your scheduled delta program runs (ESH_IX_PROCESS_CHANGE_POINTERS) all of the structural auths will be created and indexed correctly.
If we can just now get new hires to work with ESH_IX_PROCESS_CHANGE_POINTERS we will probably only run the full re-index once a week or once a month.

so if anyone is interested, from my previous post I mentioned that new hires were not getting picked up by the change pointers program.
after further testing though, we found that when the authorization recon program identifies the new hires and appropriately creates a change pointer.
conclusion: to avoid full re-indexing of trex indexes, perform the following steps:
1. implement / activate the BADI - HRTMC_AUTHORITY_VIEW - talent management -> basic settings -> search
2. Schedule program RPTMC_CREATE_CHANGEPOINT_AUTH - every 30 mins, or 1 or 2 hr. This program will capture whenever anything changes from an authorization data perspective. This would include identifiying new central persons (new hires) or new TMC specialist being setup with 741 relationship. This program "creates change pointers" which than feeds the main delta program - ESH_IX_PROCESS_CHANGE_POINTERS.
3. Use Luke's blog on the instructions for the delta program - ESH_IX_PROCESS_CHANGE_POINTERS - this program you can have run every 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, based on your needs. this processes all delta changes, the first time the program runs after the RPTMC_CREATE_CHANGEPOINT_AUTH program finishes it will also processes the data authorization changes, otherwise every other time the program is running it will catch non-data authorization for all the other indexes (employee name change, new performance rating, new potential, position name change, new profiiciency scale, new career profile data, etc).

I've noticed today that my LR5 stopped moving files between folders, I select files I want to move and drag them over to a new location like I always did before with only difference is now nothing happends, no messages with errors, nothing... I tried to google it and couldn't find anything related to my problem.
I'm using Windows 8 x64. I checked the permissions on all the photo folders and everything seems to be correct. I also run LR under admin rights, so there shouldn't be any OS related issues... in addition, it was working just fine till today.
I hope you can at least point me in right direction to dig more info on the problem with my LR5.

Is there a way to recover old emails? I moved a few folders around on the hard disk and now my emails have reverted to Factory settings and all my old emails and address book have vanished. I am still running on 10.4.11 and Apple can not help me.

Well, your profile info says 10.4.11, and you are posting your question in the iMac (PPC) category. If you are running Snow Leopard, it must be a fairly recent Intel iMac.

Apple Mail 6.0 In Box now includes messages moved to other folders

All Mail converstions with the same subject appear with a new message in my In Box eventhough many of those emails with the same subject have been moved to another Mail Box. For example, I use Salesforce. Thoughout the day I will receive emails with the subject "A lead has been assigned to you". After I have delt with these leads I click on the trash can and delete these messages. Now after installing Mountain Lion with Apple Mail 6.0, in the Preview screen I see the emails that are in my In Box plus all other email with the same subject. In this case there are sever hundred.
How do I get my In Box preview to just show the current messages and not messages in other folders with the same subject line?

You are correct that this changed with Mountain Lion. I have one Mac still running Lion and when I checked it the "Include Related Messages" box is not checked. So I assume that the upgrade to Mountain Lion checked this box during th upgrade process.
I have experimented by unchecking and checking this this option to Include Related Messages. One feature I like is if I have replied to a message the sent reply appears shaded above the message I have replied to in my In Box or any folder/mail box where I move the message.
Bottom line, now that I am getting use to the change, I like it and will leave the Include Related Messages box checked. The only drawback I see is that unrelated messages that have been moved to other folders and are not really part of the thread appear in the threaded message.

* Restarting Thunderbird does seem to "reset" the problem... for a while. I notice the problem most when either I've been away from the computer/program for a while or when waking a laptop computer from a sleep or hibernation state.

But it depends on the load of the applications, perhaps it's a better approach to separate them e.g. for a productive environment.

Moving files between folders is very slow

Hi, I have an iMac 2011. Processor: 2.7GHz Intel Core i5/ Memory 4GB
OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.1
After I change my OS from Mavericks to Yosemite, moving files between folders is very slow.
For example, if I move one jpg file in Desktop to Pictures folder (or just any other folders like Trash), it takes about 3 seconds.
When I was still using Mavericks, it made that Ding sound and transferred files right away. However, now, although it makes the Ding sound right away, the file is still there for 3 seconds.
I tried to clean up my mac using many apps, but they never fixed this problem.
I've also tried what I saw on this one thread. OS X File Transfers Very Slow
Go->Connect to Server then type "cifs://server-address" but it says there is a problem and did nothing. (maybe different issue)
Please help!

There may be other issues, but you installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
if it's not already checked.

Moving to existing folders Automator Service

So, the end result is to make this a service, but I don't care if I have to make this in applescript first. The result is to be able to select a number of files and have the service prompt me to choose between moving between Specific folders.
Ex: If I have a few files selected in /System/Library/Coreservices/ (of course this is not where I'm moving files from), I'd want to move those files to either /Users/Apple/Desktop/ or /Users/Apple/Pictures/ or /Users/Apple/Library/.
In Automator the closest thing I could do to this was have it so I'd select items and then it would prompt me where to move them. I added variables into this, however only one would show up.
In summary, how do I have it so I can move to a selection of paths??

I think what your saying is a little over my head. I'm not very familiar with Automator. What I had after your instruction was Get Specified Finder items, then to a choose from list. When I got to this part it listed the path of the images I was testing it with, allowing me to check which imagse I wanted to continue with the action? Then it prompeted me (upon my request) to choose the path from the defaults (Desktop, home, etc.) and one of my variables.
All that set aside I feel I'm more so on the right path. I was able to make a bunch of variables, each containing my desired paths. I was also able to get a selection of my files, which I feel could contain my variables. If I could select between my variables that would fix my problem, which may have also been what you were describing when you said,"then put the result into your destination variable," which is where I got lost (bleh run on sentence).
If you could please clarify what you meant there in a more user friendly way, you may be describing the way for me to select which varaibale aka path during the action. Thanks again

The version 11.0 of Adobe Reader for iOS had the Clear List button. However, the newer versions 11.2.x or 11.3.x of Adobe Reader for iOS no longer provides the option to clear the Recents list.

We are preparing to move from queue based printing to iPrint and are
experiencing the following problem with Windows XP locked-down workstations.
We created the queue directory on the iprint server, gave the ou rights to
the queues directory, changed the appropriate attributes to point the queue
to the new server and volume, and under qms management, had the iprint
printer service the queue. If you add the printer (queue based), it works
fine. If you log into the workstation as admin, it works fine. If you log
in as the "normal locked-down user" it doesn't. What we did find is that
there are two keys in
HKEY_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Novell\Print\NDSConnec tions, under the tree and
queue. The first queue key is the short name and has the correct settings.
The second key is fully qualified and is retaining the old setting
(server/volume). If we manually change the key and reboot it works.
How do we change the second key without having to manually change it?
Don't say ZENworks as the queues will be different for every user.
